Fergie and Meulensteen: Different Hymn Sheets

Just days ago, first team coach Rene Meulensteen claimed that United weren’t scared of anyone this season and reckoned Chelsea were too old.

“Chelsea have just made one major signing in Juan Mata,” he said. “Besides, Chelsea’s squad is too old, and their tempo is not high enough to win the Premier League.”

This is in contrast to Fergie, who looks at their age as experience.

“They have tremendous experience – there aren’t any young kids in that team,” he said. “We wouldn’t be saying they are dead and buried would we? Why should they be? They’ll still be a big threat and we expect them to challenge.”

Lest we forget that it was Meulensteen who claimed Maarten Stekelenburg was the goalie we wanted, after a deal with David de Gea had already been agreed.

“Stekelenburg is indeed the goalkeeper who is at the top of our wanted list,” he said earlier this year. Hmm. Must try harder, Rene.

Surely we ‘weren’t’ scared of anyone?

You would be stupid to rule Chelski out! Anything can happen!

Anyone watchin that Ronaldo thing that’s on tonight??

  5. WillieRedNut says:

    Who?

  6. Costas says:

Rene’s comments came off a bit too ignorant for my liking. I am hopeful that the feeling among the squad is similar to Fergie’s and they are not taking anyone lightly.

  7. WillieRedNut says:

    No way!

  8. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Sir Alex has taught his disciples “The Art of The Mind Game”. Looks like the Sith Master has let his apprentices on the loose. And they’re working together to spread the dark side.

  9. Zibbie says:

    Oh Haley, wow so womanly.

  10. The Scottish Wonder says:

Luiz, Romeu, Ramires, Mata, Mikel, Lukaku, McEachran, Kalou, Sturridge all under 25 and with Kakuta and Coutois on loan, they have really talanted young players

  11. Zibbie says:

Dis-information to the press, like getting shity to spend 24 million on the lesbian man from AW stable of your to old now, you go, I sell you for much money to buy me new honey.

  12. WillieRedNut says:

Rene is like the old mad uncle, that knows nothing lol.

  16. SuperNani17 says:

IMHO, Meulensteen’s comments are just part of Fergie’s mind games. Us United fans shouldn’t look much into his comments.

Cracks me up when I see some readers getting pissed about Rene.
Chill guys, Rene’s just taking the piss.

  17. smartalex says:

Rene Meulensteen was also talking about sneijder before Sir Alex mentioned him during the US tour. The fact that he hasn’t been pulled up and told to shut it, indicates to me a deliberate ploy.

  18. smartalex says:

    Conehead?

  19. Zibbie says:

The Rent Boyz are strong. A formidable foe. One who raised the bar to win the PL some 7 years ago. SAF and Man Utd have meet the challenge with a proper plan, of a strong academy, buying young talent and developing it their way. Sell well CR7, Becks ect. Buy well, Vida&Paddy ect. and every 3-5 years spend well and “big” to fill the holes. In 7 years since CR7 and Rooney spearheaded the change from Roy, Becks and Ruud. 4 PL titles a CL tittle and 2 more CL finals. Again on the fly this time , retooled and won the PL last year 7 or so gone with loans coming home 7 in, as well promotions from within. Wow 9 of 9 points and all the rest.
SAF has a smile a mile wide!

    I’m real!

    Can you hear me?

    I’m here!

  27. King Eric says:

Some have seriously not heard of Meulensteen? Fuck me. This guy is in the main responsible for the way we are currently playing. Fast interchanging play. Movement. Pace and running off the ball. Ask Ronaldo or Nani what they make of him. He was a huge part in their personal skills that helped them develop. For what its worth he is right IMO. Chelsea do have the know how but come the final stretch they wont have the legs. Look at them last year against United, an older United as well. We ran them fucking ragged.

  28. WillieRedNut says:

    Come in MG? ;)

  29. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

So this is the guy I contantly refer to as Rene Meulenscweinteein….gotta learn the correct spelling.

Still haven’t learn how to spell Kanchelckis or pronounce his name.

  30. King Eric says:

scottish wonder – McEicran? He is fucking overrated pal. Tunnicliffe ate that cunt for breakfast in the youth cup semi. Kakuta has gone somewhere. Mikel? Come on mate. He is fucking shit. If their youth is that good how come they never get a fucking game mate?

  31. Mickjk says:

Renee talks a load of waffle doesn’t he. I reckon Fergie said that in direct response to what Meulensteen said. Can’t be showing disrespect for the competition now can we?

  32. WillieRedNut says:

    Rene McFerguson?

  33. King Eric says:

Oh and Kalou is nearly 27.

No I will not be watching that Ronnie thing. Loved him at United, no interest whatsoever in his fucking whiny face anymore.

Oh and Luiz? Ha. Is that a joke? Is there a more over rate centreback in the prem?

  34. Zibbie says:

No comparisons, wow, how fucking cool is that. The best in 12 years, picked him by the way he ran and looked.
Lads like him are easily bored, he must be challenged. And he is in a proper environment to explore his own greatness.
Smartalex I only know you through this medium. I believe in your artistry, artistic talents you have that something special. In your work you see it as well, when a great one is in front of you if they are 3 or 67, you see it don’t you. A padawan spotter you are. He has high high midian clorine count this one was does. His next step, is his not anyone else’s to make or decide it for him. It is his talent only to be enjoyed by others.

  35. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

I heard/read or just dreamt some time ago that Rene was the man that brought Dutch Total football to our academy/reserves teams, he impressed SAF & then got a promotion to Coach and then Ole carried it on with the Reserves.

How true is this or am I just Bulshitting and need to google who actually did this?

  36. Zibbie says:

MG your right as always! See my response to your Red Haley picture. wow vanished.

  37. WillieRedNut says:

Rene is Fergie’s right – hand – man!

  38. King Eric says:

Clint – No mate, you are pretty much spot on.

  39. Zibbie says:

MG my Cr Mustard post is gone as well????

  40. King Eric says:

Just read that article where they reckon Jose told Sneijder to stay put. Weskey reckons Jose ” has Inter in his heart”. Oh fuck off you poncey wanker. Mourinho has fuck all in his heart the self loving egotistical cunt.

  41. Costas says:

The thing is that we didn’t like it when the CLLC said something similar to Rene before the 08-09 season. Don’t know how Chelsea will fare, but to write off a team just because of their age is not on.

  42. smartalex says:

Phil Brogan has 12 years at United academy and he rates Ravel as the best prospect ever.

  43. mikekelly12 says:

Evening all, how are we all doing on this rainy evening in Manchester?!

He’s been a lot more vocal this pre season and early season. A lot of his comments have been taken from interviews given to overseas media outlets so not 100% sure just how accurate these comments have been portrayed. He also commented on Sneijder during the window explaining the deal was not dead. If Sir Alex is at all bothered by these comments I’m sure he’d already of had a word so I’m guessing they may well have been taken out of context at times.

  44. smartalex says:

On the list of players that Phil Brogan recruited for United Academy:
Ravel Morrison, Danny Welbeck, Frazier Campbell, Reese Brown, Ryan Shawcross,
Matthew James. Info ex Brogan’s CV.

  45. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

    Thanks King Eric

    Wasnt sure about it but this seems to be my source;
    http://www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/Coaching-Staff/Rene-Meulensteen.aspx

I don’t remember reading it so someone here or one of my mates must of informed me of Rene’s credintials. It would be brain-freezingly shocking if Rene is the man set to replace SAF. SAF did say he would recommend Carlos Queries (Lol?) for the job so he could throw Rene into the mix.

Goetze will be our “transfer target” of 2012, My spidey senses are tickling at thought.

  46. Zibbie says:

    Turn your head and coughoffside.

  47. Zibbie says:

Well for a short cut to Man Utd next signing we should just ask Cedars and Costas. Well guys who’s next and when? Next summer?

  48. jeet says:

    @Willie: Would that make Fergie Rene’s left-hand-man? :)

  49. wiuru says:

Dont know whats going on with RM but he seems to be doing our oppositions team talk for them .Why poke sleeping dogs ?

  50. Kings says:

Ben Amos playing for the Under-21s.

  51. Zibbie says:

@wiuru, to see if they are alive? Just a reminder to J cunt T and Lamps there Nat coach sees they have slowed? Hey old dude.

  52. mikekelly12 says:

    Clint

    I think it’ll be Ross Barkley….

  53. WillieRedNut says:

jeet – Yeah! :) Unless Mickey Phelan is already? ;)

  54. Tonka Norris says:

Maybe Rene didn’t really say it. Someone could have hacked into his head and said the words?

  55. fergie is the boss says:

Rene shows he knows a thing or 2 about the game, its just great that the staff have different opinions, it does not effect in the way their day to day relationship is run with the boss, and its great the staff are not yes-men

  56. TonyBee says:

Just had a trawl through some back pots and come upon Cyril Sneer’s Agent of Fergie blog….. nearly wet me-self laughing …funny as fuck …you lot gotta go read it

    http://www.agentoffergie.blogspot.com

  57. sandeep1878 says:

    @ TonyBee

    never heard Rene? :P

    never mind :)

    on a lighter note,

the man 4 out of possible 5 trophies with reserves team in 05-06, after coming from our feeder club..

no wonder why he was hired up to first team..

    btw, on topic,

Sir Alex is the master of mind games as we all know,

soon expect him to change his stance on chelsea when the heat is on..

you need need an iron man to beat Sir Alex in this game, but that too may be a possibility…

@ Hello Kings, hope you are well..

good to see Amos playing, i have high hopes on the lad.. i would love him to excel fast track..

  58. #07 says:

Rene’s losing credibility fast. He keeps on getting contradicted by the Boss. He was also quoted last week as pushing Sneijder to United. So its Sniejder, Stekelenberg, Chelsea…sooner or later everything he says is just gonna be dismissed as rent-a-quote quality.

  59. sandeep1878 says:

    @ papii..

good link that, Rene certainly has it what it takes to bring a winning team, he did that with reserves by winning 4 out of the 5 trophies, i know its reserves, but football is fucking tough in whatever league or level you play

  60. markg says:

Rene wouldn’t be coming out with comments without SAF knowledge its all a wind up

  61. sandeep1878 says:

    @ papii..

you dont have to doubt abt the cerdibility of his achievments,

the other day i was reading a book on our club history,,

this man has been a top drawer with reserves, the team that has won more reserves leagues than any club..

though i will have to keep a tab on the total football thing you mentioned…

  62. sandeep1878 says:

    @ king eric..

    hello mate,

Luiz who? the one who got fucked by a great Mexican at OT? :P

  63. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Ive wondered about this Meulensteen character. First the difference of opinion with Steckelberg and DeGea. Then a difference of opinion whether we were after Sneijder or not and now Chelsea and the threat from them. Maybe Im reading to much into this but if he has an opinion that differs from the boss can he please shut his fucking mouth. I love Gary Neville to bits but I cringed on a daily basis to hear his bloody ramblings to the press that more often than not just added to the frustration of a week of football and now Meulensteen has taken up the batton. Drop it mate I reckon Ronaldo had it up his arse.

  64. Zibbie says:

Tony, Sneer has talent very funny!

  65. sandeep1878 says:

    @ goatina..

you pretty much sum it up..

he is an insider and will tell opposite to what Sir Alex will tell after 2 days :)

bloody mind games, nothing else in it,

you cant expect a man under Sir Alex to be so much different in opinion often, otherwise we all know where he and we are heading :P

  66. sandeep1878 says:

    For England and Rooney fans,

he is the 2nd highest goal scorer in qualifying for country,,

    Goals in qualifying
    20 Michael Owen
    16 Wayne Rooney
    13 Alan Shearer
12 Gary Lineker & Frank Lampard.

how did Sir Bobby miss out here..

can someone pitch in? or Sor Bobby had a better goal scoring record in finals than qualifying?

may be CedarsDevil will help with this

  67. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    sandeep
I get that mate but it looks as though we are trying to win the war of words by covering every bet. In the end you just look silly rather than right.
If this is a ploy then it is a questionable one.

  68. Cyril Sneer says:

Maybe it’s all a trick to keep everyone guessing? eg, Fergie doesn’t want anyone to know for sure that we want De Gea (to keep down competition, prices, save face if we dont get him) so he gets Rene to say that stuff to the media etc.

either way, expect the Boss to take Andre Feather-Boa to school tactically and with the mind games. Hardly a coincidence we have a game against the rentboys coming up in a couple of weeks.

  69. sandeep1878 says:

    @ Goatina..

yes i agree mate, sometimes it just looks stupid, have to accept that rene.

    Goodnight mate and goodnight ROM..Bliss

    UNITED

  70. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

I would prefer it if Sir Alex and Phelan brought out a changing table, nappies and a warm bottle of milk for Evander villas boarse (or whatever hes bloody called) and tell him “we’ve come prepared”.

  71. CedarsDevil says:

    Hi Sandeep

The answer to your question is quite simple, at the time when Sir Bobby played for England they hardly (If ever) had to play any qualifying matches and entered tournaments by default like the 1962 World Cup for example. England were hosts in 1966 and qualified as winners in 1970. So Sir Bobby hardly ever had to play in any qualification matches which makes his scoring record for England even more remarkable….

  72. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Or better that. When offering him to come to his office for a glass of wine give him Matteus Fucking Rose because tghose portugese bastards should drink some of the vile shit they send to our shores. Make him drink a whole bottle and watch him go green.

  73. Kings says:

sandeep1878 – Hello my friend. I’m good thanks. Hope you are well. Yeah Amos looks a top keeper. Fergie has every faith in the lad to have him as number 3 behind Anders and De Gea.

    Goodnight mate.

  74. WillieRedNut says:

    Sounds like a plan.

  75. WillieRedNut says:

Fucking comments splurge! Sounds like a plan, Goat?

  76. Andooo says:

Fergie is just been diplomatic in his mind he feels the same way, he has too or we would of bought Wesley.

  77. CedarsDevil says:

Kings – Cheers for that video my friend…………Bloody touches the heart

  78. Sparkz says:

King Eric @ 18.29- bang on mate. Rene plays a massive role in our training, he’s essentially the skills coach. Big part of what we do….I saw a video which gave behind the scenes footage of our training sessions, and he deals with the technical side of things.

As for his comments, I’ve been saying the same thing. You’d be foolish to write Chelsea off completely, because of their experience…but their squad is far too stale, and not vibrant enough IMO. I think us and City will be the top 2 this season.

And yes, they have some young players….but the spine of their side is way too reliant on the usual suspects. Like I said- you can’t disregard experience, but they’ve been in need of a freshen up this summer, and it hasn’t really happened.

  79. You Just Gotta Love This Team says:

    Chelsea – Essien = 0. …..simples.

  80. fergie is the boss says:

Sparkz – the only reason they have been in the title race the last 2 years, is poor ref decisions against united. I do not see chelsea has a huge threat, they will be up there but not a huge worry

  81. Kings says:

CedarsDevil – It’s a pleasure my friend. Yes it most certainly does.

  82. gus says:

Just to be clear and echo some of the wiser ones on the site – Rene has to take great crdedit for his role in much of the team’s prep work- and tactics to an extent,I’m told. Plus, the press communiques from OT are carefully calculated- insane to think there is a lack of communication, and two unintended sets of messages geting out. Zere is a plan, nein?.

  83. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 18:46: “Phil Brogan has 12 years at United academy and he rates Ravel as the best prospect ever.”

Brogan wouldn’t comment on which player Ravel Morrison is most comparable – but I will (fools rush in ?).

To me, it’s the young Kaka who was simply awesome at ACMilan in his first two/three years in Italy, before his legs went on him. Morrison has the same gliding speed with the ball at this feet – and he is bloody good with both feet, too.

With young talent it’s always a crap shoot – see, for example, KikoTheKid who looked like a world-beater three (!) years ago but has stalled since then. To be a successful professional, talent is a given so what really, really counts is heart and a desire to excel. CR7 was awesome in this regard – still is. Others – Georgie Best and Paul Gasgoine are the most celebrated examples – just fritter away their talents.

It’s impossible to tell what the future holds for Ravel Morrison but I’m sure that he’s getting the best coaching – on and off the field – at UTD. It’s up to him.

  84. WillieRedNut says:

That would be just lovely. Kaka in his prime, was sublime.

  85. AlphaRS says:

Not having that. This guy is one of the main reasons United are playing the way they are at the moment.

  86. Dragonslayer says:

To me, the ball is round. Anything can happen. Any opponent is definitely an opponent. Looking down or trying to dismiss your opponent can be a fatal mistake. Underdogs are always good at throwing a sucker punch.

  87. Trevor says:

Lads my take on it is that i wouldn’t be surprised if what Rene said is what Fergie said behind the scenes!

Maybe Rene scored a little own goal by announcing it to the world! Fergie has recovered the situation and put Chelsea Old Gaurd back in their comfort zone! Now no need for them to try doubly hard to make a point, they are in the running! HAHAHA

We don’t need any additional Motivation for Chelsea thats for sure!

I do however feel Schitty are our main threat this year, with that squad and the way they started it could continue which is scary!

  88. w says:

perhaps rene is allowed to have his own opinions

  89. YorYor says:

Pretty sure they’re all just misleading whoever’s reading. And getting bothered about it.

  90. lordrt says:

SAF is not wrong, yes the chelski players are old, but with their experience they can deal with tricky games

  91. Fred says:

Rene should stop running his mouth. These kind of arrogant comments are unbecoming of someone representing Manchester United.

  92. King Eric says:

Fred – Doesn’t appear Fergie seems too bothered mate. As far as I am concerned he can say what he likes when he has us playing football we do at the minute. Fuck me with some , not you Fred, you can’t win. Phelan too quiet and a yes man, Renee the opposite and they both get it in the neck. He is spot on anyway, the Rentboys are stale. Like I said yesterday even with our older lads last year we played them off the park in 4 games. With our current crop they wont live with us.

  93. Fred says:

King Eric – Fair enough but I think these kind of comments make us look arrogant. These are the kind of boasts we’ve heard in the past from the likes of John Terry, Peter Kenyon and Garry Cock. I don’t remember any of our players or staff behaving like this before. Whether we can back it up or not, I’d like to think United do their talking on the pitch.

Rene has gone against club protocol before, blabbing to the press about our transfer targets. You don’t talk about other club’s players imho. We find it disrespectful when other clubs do it, so it can’t be any less so when it’s our staff doing it.

  94. MyCowIsTheBest says:

They contradict all the time. I think they are on a script.

  95. julio says:

Guys have u not thought Rene is there as Fergie’s misdirect…Confuse the hell out of the chelski scum!!!

  96. Saad says:

Mayve Rene’s job is to throw the enemy off guard. Ever considered that? ;)
