Fergie: Bolton Gave Us A Panic

Sir Alex Ferguson reflects on our victory over Bolton.

“It was harder than it should have been, there were a lot of opportunities to finish the game,” Ferguson said. “And when that happens, two-goal leads aren’t particularly great and of course Bolton scored and then it was back to walls stuff really for that last ten minutes, there was a bit of panic. Bolton have got that type of play that makes it difficult for anyone and they’re a team who will get results because of that. They could take points off anyone, they’re effective. They have a simple way of playing, a very committed team and they have one or two nice talents which brings a nice balance to their team. So, they’re difficult opponents and we’re quite happy to get a result.”

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME BOLTON LOST BEFORE THIS GAME
    THEY ARE NO PUSH OVERS

The end of this match was much harder than it needed to be. UTD should have scored on several occasions and had a three/four goal cushion.

That said, I felt much more secure with Edwin in goal than would have been the case with that mistake-waiting-to-happen.

  3. Fze123 says:

All I can say is, thank god we held it together and got the damn points we deserved.

  4. King Eric says:

gotta hate – They were unbeaten in five before today.

  5. hurr says:

I just knew we’re gonna get hit back after missing quite a few chances. Thank god it didn’t cost us the game though.

  6. Bebeto says:

I agree with the consensus. Much better than the Sunderland game, even if we conspired to make it harder for ourselves late on. We did right to come out all guns blazing, otherwise they could have settled and made it much harder for us.

Thought the atmosphere was mostly crap. Surrounded by the comatose majority, I felt like going over to the away end and joining in with their rendition of “Lancashire is wonderful”.

last 20 minutes takes away from a great 70 minutes. Valencia was great. On another day Owen scores, on another day Berba scores 2 scissor kicks.

Cannot wait until we go to the European Capital of Knife Crime.

Result was all that mattered today, given Chelsea and Liverpool’s results. Bit hairy towards the end of the match but finished ok. Berbatov sublime in parts and think that Owen would benefit from a two or three match goalscoring run and would then stop trying so hard.
Off topic but I don’t really get it with Bolton fans and their hatred of Megson. They look solid and what do they expect with their resources. Not the most charismatic of guys but do the pricks who jeer him really think they could do much better. Perhaps they think they can hound him out and Mourinho will be chomping at the bit to take them over.Perhaps they are pining for Big Sam and his earphone and pioneering sports science techniques.Hoof the ball up to Davies and after he has immobilised the defender by means of an elbow follow up and put it in the back of the net. Then let me take the credit by telling the media that the goal came about because I let my team of physiotherapists, sports scientists and dieticians work on Kevin Davies and they strengthened the elbow that knocked the shit out of the defender.
Point being, whenever Bolton get a result, I don’t see Megson blowing his own trumpet, he praises the team.
Careful what you wish for Bolton fans.

    @ smokebreaksteve – well put

    Alan Curbishley syndrom

  10. manchuchu says:

Watching Berbatov yesterday gave me wood.

When the Bulgarian seagulls follow the trawler…

  11. Bebeto says:

I’ll second that, smokebreaksteve. They’re idiots.

Bolton weren’t anything special under Allardyce. Nobody respected them as a Premiership side. And even if his methods were effective, his eventual departure meant it was always going to be hard to retain their Premiership status, which they’d taken for granted.

Megson – who was never given a chance – has reintroduced the stability that was rapidly lost under Lee. That alone should have appeased them.

Too many fans want miracle results, be it success or good football. Heaven help those managers expected to deliver both.

  12. Hoyles86 says:

I hope people now start to appreciate what berbatov brings to the team. He’s the focal point of most of our attacks and he’s looking much more dangerous in front of goal.

Cant wait to put the final nail in the scousers title coffin next week.

    Dis is are yeaaaar!!!

    My arse.

  13. aliasrns5 says:

we won bcuz of van der sar honestly…. its ridiculous how calm everyone is when he plays…. sadly a bit too calm to let one in…

  14. 123 says:

A bit off topic – Pogba’s first two games. Im not usually one to get excited too early by these kids but man this guy can play. Cant wait to see him tested at higher levels.

  15. ash says:

owen should have scored.berba is very unlucky , against city he should have scored yesterday he should have scored but both time the keeper saved beautifully.anyways i am happy we won and more happy that valencia scored.he should score consistently.
    next to die – liverfools.

Smokebreaksteve – Where you been bro? Been missing your take on things loads trust me. Your views are always spot on, and always makes a happy day when I read comments of GHTT, King Eric, Giles Oakley, Failsworth Devil, Suhayl, and course yourself (no disrespect to others). Please do post more often on RoM. Would appriciate it every bit mate.

  17. Corea says:

Giggsy oicked up an injury. Didn’t see what was the point of keeping him on the pitch after 2-0 in the second half. And of course Scholesy should have substituted Anderson earlier.

  18. King Eric says:

Sully – Thanks alot mate but we all contribute in our own ways. I agree entirely though SmokeBreakSteve should post more often. He is always bang on.

  19. King Eric says:

Corea – Giggsy wouldn’t have played on Wednesday anyway but hope he is back for Sunday. Reckon Scholes and Fletch will start mid week.

    Sorry morning mate.

  20. denton davey says:

    Hey, Sully @ 8:46 – What about me ?

  21. Corea says:

    @ King Eric

We were convinced enough that we badly need Giggs’s inspiration and quality to win games we don’t play well. CSKA ? I don’t care. We badly need him at Anfield.

  22. King Eric says:

denton – I love your comments mate. You don’t seem to come on as much though recently.

  23. smokebreaksteve says:

    SULLY, King Eric

Thank you for your kind words, but I echo King Eric in that everybody contributes in their own ways. Struggling for time to get on at the moment but will make more of an effort. Thanks again.
