Maybe this is a way to see Carlos Quieroz come back to manage our Club in two or three years time?

Its English mentality to think that outsider is better at doing a job than lesser known home grown talent , so please give the new no 2 some time...

Personally i think SAF couldnt be asked...with big games coming up, the prolonged berba deal..crunch time in clge to start soon...dips and rentboys in the space of a week. He probs thought sod it...im not chasing someone all round europe and spending so much time and effort ala the berbs striker deal. So went for the easy option.

Pako ( dips former assistant ) or bento from porto would have been my option. Guys who can speak different languages, european know how and input, tactical awareness, clge nouse etc etc. I mean c'mon it doesnt take rocket science to know the FA are throwing mills into coaching programmes + sending our english coaches out to the continent to learn technical tactical know how. Cause we are lightyears behind. I mean whens the last time an english coach ever won owt of note.

Phelan wont inspire the players...and i personally dont think they respect him that much too. It took a guy like CQ who found the portugese golden generation " figo, cost, couto, costa etc' who then worked for the national team, then south africa, then saudi...learnt his trade all over the world, speaks 9 languages. And who has scouting prowess like no other...which utd fan had manucho, nani and anderson lied up pre last year. He did all that + his input in our wins v barca roma were invaluable.

Now compare that to phelan....I think SAF will have to hold his hand.

Continuity important dont get me wrong. But the sole criteria to get the 2nd biggest job in english football??? = NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I agree suhayl, there are lots of coaches out there who offer something different, continuity surely isn't a prerequisite for a pointing him?

Bad moves...both lack charisma and quality....fresh face would have been good. Stephens comments spot on. Compare CQ's cv to that of phelan. And the glaring chasm between them becomes so evident it gets worrying.

But even though many a fan arent happy...we will have to trust SAF on this dodgy call

I was a bit disappointed too. As it has been pointed out here though, Fergie knows best and a billion times more than I ever will. As long as Phelan inspires the players, he will be a great appointment, but he doesn't inspire me (he'd be gutted to know! lol)

The thing which amazed me about Quieroz wa that SAF invested time and energy into redefining his OWN vision of the game with Quieroz's input.

SAF can be extrememly stubborn, so despite the criticism Quieroz anfd SAF got for not playing 4-4-2 we now see the fruits of their transformation of our footballing methods.

I gues back then it was hard by not correcting the forumla, but you have to begin somewhere and quieroz's input was vital.

I would be interested to hear what you thought about the criticism Queiroz received whilst at Old Trafford? Fergie would regularly rave about Carlos when he didn't get much praise from the United faithful - usually blamed for United adopting a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation, which didn't go down to well.

The game that sticks in my mind is the 2-1 home defeat to Blackburn.

I like Queiroz. I thought he was an excellent assistant that will do a good job with Portugal, regardless of his experience with Madrid. I think you should give Phelan more of a chance though - he would have also picked up a great deal from Queiroz and we'll never know unless we give him a chance. I don't think we had to get someone from abroad OR a potential manager when the gaffer leaves.

I'm sure Queiroz and Fergie will exchange ideas regularly - but he has and will be missed.
