Fergie: Carragher Tackle Was Disgraceful

Nani will be missing until April after Jamie Carragher ripped open his leg last weekend. The first half challenge, which saw Carragher’s studs cut Nani to the bone, was only punished with a yellow card.

Sir Alex Ferguson has rightly criticised the tackle but has refused to criticise Phil Dowd for failing to punish Carragher accordingly.

“Obviously it was a disgraceful tackle, we know that, but you just move on,” he said. “There’s nothing we can do about it now. That’s in the past and I’m more interested in tomorrow. We’ve got to look forward now. There are big opportunities at this club and we have a lot of challenges ahead of us for the rest of the season.”

Interesting….At this point, it is best to state it for what it is and move on….

  2. willierednut says:

In the back of his mind, Keane on Haaland. The media would obviously bring something like that into the debate, when each shocking tackle should be judged differently.

  3. John of Arabia says:

Carragher is fuckin’ disgrace to football so as his club.

  4. 7seagulls says:

He can’t criticise Dowd, he’s already on the FA’s hitlist for his comments on the equally incompetent Atkinson

  5. Doghouse says:

I heard Carragher tried to apologise. Which puts him up a notch in my book. Unfortunately this, in itself, still leaves him a long way below zero. What a dick move.

Bottom line though is if it had been one of ours done that to Suarez and only got a yellow I probably wouldn’t have minded too much. I know, I’m a horrible person. So whatever. It’s the game, and sure the refs need to stamp this kind of thing out, but until they do that it’s not the responsibility of the players to not kill each other. Play to the whistle, always.

So in short, this is on the FA and the referees, they’ve got to clean house. Carragher just did what he could to stop us winning Number Nineteen. A loathsome way to do it, but that’s on the refs. Hell, it’s not like Keano ever took prisoners, and we all love Keano.

  6. willierednut says:

I think It’s important to point out, that Keane and Haaland had history, that went back, to when Keane done his knee at Leeds. Carragher and Nani had no such history.

  7. wayne says:

carragher tried to get into the utd dressing room and was told to fuck off,his intention was to put nani out for more than one game and he succeeded fucking brutal tackle and i hope justice is dished out before that cunt retires.

  8. mattbw7 says:

What do you mean by Keane on Hyland Willie, I suggest you review the vid of that challenge and you will see that while keanes challenge was worthy of the sending off he got, the career ending knee injoury that caused hyland to retire was on the other leg and was there before keane exacted revenge for the “fake injuries” taunt, hence why hylands legal action against keane failed.

  9. Kings says:

Carragher is a fucking cunt. I think Fergie realises he has to accept these unfortunate instances, in light of the roasting he has been getting for his comment about Martin Atkinson. We have to move on. Hopefully we’ll be ok in his absence. Get well soon Nani. Funny how nothing much has been said about the arrogance of that cunt Wenger – demanding an apology from UEFA.

  10. Kings says:

Doghouse – Sorry mate, but that bastard can stick his apology. His challenge was calculated with the intent of putting him out of action for a short while. Just think of the furore if Vida played and made a similar challenge on this country’s beloved Stevie Me.

  11. wayne says:

don’t get how wenger can slag off the ref and not be brought up on charges either

  12. mattbw7 says:

Doghouse, Carragher can fuck off with his apology its clear lfc’s main tactic was to stop Nani as our main attacking threat, the fact Carragher was too fucking slow to catch the ball against Nani and instead ripped a hole in his shin “accidently” is bollocks, it was a crap tackle by a player out of his depth and should rightly be condemned by all regardless of his mealy mouthed, media leaked and media friendly attempts to apologise. At the end of the day that useless scouse twat has put one of our best players out of action for at least 3 weeks, he can fuck right off as far as I’m concerned.

  13. Costas says:

Didn’t bother bringing that piece of crap here, but according to an article at the Daily Post Liverpool section, Carragher’s tackle was what you expect in games fierce as this and he was going for the ball. Oh and Rafa’s was a lot worse. No mention of Maxi’s challenge on Rafa.

I agree that we move on. Hopefully Nani will lift the Pr.League trophy in May while the scouse bastard will be crying somewhere.

  14. willierednut says:

Matt – Well, I think that’s obvious what I mean. He done him. He admitted, as much in his book. Other thing I’d say, while I don’t condone what Keane done, Haaland had It coming and he picked the wrong guy, to have a ruck with. I remember an article in the NOTW, were Haaland was taking trash about Keane and United. There was a picture of Haaland waking passed a wall, and it said on the wall, MUFC die. Everyone knew, Keane would get him back in some capacity.

  15. Doghouse says:

I’m not saying that I thought Carragher did it by accident. He did what he felt he needed to do to win the game and try to stop us winning the league. It was nothing personal, just business, so I believe he can be sincerely sorry for it, just as I can believe he’d probably do it again. Sorry or not, that’s the game.

And I hate to admit it but if a United player did the same thing I probably wouldn’t mind.

Football is a hard and dangerous game. What happened to Nani was an outrage, but it’s part of the game. The FA and the referees need to fix it, but it is their responsibility to do so. Until they do players will do what it takes to win, fans will expect them to do what it takes to win, and highly skilled players will be targets for hatchet men.

  16. mattbw7 says:

differance is willie hyland was not injured as a result of keanes challange, simple as that. It was a red card offence but the player was not injured, later Hyland tried to sue keane for ending his career when it was pointed out in court it was the other knee that was fucked and therefore nothing to do with keanes tackle. Carra on the hand did gash nanis knee.

  17. mattbw7 says:

Doghouse sorry mate, Im noy fuckin interested in how i would have viewed the tackle if it had been the other way around, I’ll leave that to Lineker and his bunch of knobs to justify, fact is that useless scoude twat did our man so fuck him and fuck his club and his family, the so called long life evertonian fans, whatever you say about rooney himself his family have stayed evertonians, not like the carra clan, fucking arseholes the lot of em, and yes I am pissed!!!!!

  18. smartalex says:

Sir Alex relishing opportunities and looking forward to challenges!
    Thank you Lord!

  19. eddieTheRed says:

Nani is a casualty of war; normally I would say someone else would step forward to take his place but they are either all injured or out on loan; why did SAF not recall Tom Cleverley? I’m convinced we would be miles ahead by now if Cleverley had stayed, even with his injuries!

  20. willierednut says:

I’m not comparing the tackles Matt. Just pointing out, the media might remind Fergie of one or two tackles by Keane in the past. They always fucking do, don’t they? Fuck me, when De Jong broke Ben Arfa’s leg, some City fans phoned talksport and mentioned Keane’s tackle on Haaland. What that had to do with De Jong breaking Ben Arfa’s leg, I don’t know.

  21. mattbw7 says:

Sorry Eddie if SAF was as convinced as you, cleverley would have been called back, fact is he wasnt and so you have to question his future at UTD.

  22. mattbw7 says:

I get you, willie but the facts are that keane just sent off and alfie had to retire cos someone else did his other knee, that fact city fans or haaland cant see this is neither here nor there for me, a court of law threw it out, end of.

  23. smartalex says:

When could Cleverley have been called back? Was that an option?

  24. Devil310 says:

    @Doghouse

I think that an apology for a delivered and ill intentioned action is worth shit. That’s hypocrisy 101!

That kinda tackle could have ended/damaged someone’s career. I’m glad Nani didn’t accepted it.

  25. smartalex says:

Effectively, Keane got straight red for his memo to alf.

Carragher’s was as bad, but instead of revenge, it was sabotage. He only got yellow.

  26. mattbw7 says:

smartalex, he could have come back in jan, but he was injured and in any case Im pretty sure any team would write into a loan deal the opportunity to call them back at any time.

  27. Costas says:

Something else I was wondering about. Why didn’t Mr Liverpool make a tackle like that last year when Chelsea were playing at the Bidge?

  28. willierednut says:

Take that you cunt. Don’t ever stand over me, talking about fake injuries again.

  29. RedBlood says:

Cleverly could have been called back in January. There was an option. But then again, hindsight is something which always leads to regret.

  30. Giles Oakley says:

If a United player did what Carragher did I would be ashamed of him. No question. I would not defend him. I disliked what Keane did to Haaland which reduced him in my eyes.

  31. Costas says:

*Chelsea playing at Anfield* I meant.

  32. Neil says:

I hope someone kicks Carragher’s kneecap off next year. Who the hell do we have on this team who has the bollocks to do it?

  33. Devil310 says:

    @Costas

Cockroaches look after themselves, even when they’re not part of the same family

  34. RedBlood says:

Thats what Keano brought to the table. The opponents knew they couldn’t fuck around with him in the team.Remember the pasting he gave that cunt Viera in the tunnel when he tried to dilly dally with Gary?
Exactly why we needed someone from our side(Wes could’ve done it)to have fucking break that bastards leg .Give it as good as it gets.Needed to be taught a lesson there.I know its a sport at th end of the day but that scouse fucker crossed the line first and he had to be taught a lesson.

  35. willierednut says:

Giles – Fair point, but Haaland talked the talk. Saying, he hated United and United players. Not condoning what Keane did, but if you play with fire, you usually get burned.

  36. smartalex says:

mattbw7, I guess it varies from one agreement to another. Generally though, the value of a loan player would be vastly diminished if his parent club can recall him at any time. For a Premiership club like Wigan to be unable to alter a squad list that had been diminished by withdrawn loanees, could be disastrous.

Anyway, EddieTheRed, would Cleverley have played these last 2 games? Would it have made a difference? How much further ahead would we be?

  37. Costas says:

    @Devil310

    Well put. ;)

  38. RedBlood says:

Giles,Fair point but it was clear Carragher made that tackle with the sole intention of kicking Nani out for more than a few games. He had to be taught a lesson in my book.

  39. Devil310 says:

    @RedBlood and willierednut

    I agree…

We had just been hit with a second goal, minutes before halftime, and its not like we were being threatening at the moment.

The foul came out of nowhere….in the middle of the pitch….next to the sideline. There was nothing else behind it than mal-intentioned-scousescum-sour-malice!

  40. smartalex says:

Viera’s face in the tunnel! All drawn and pale, no red blood there. He saw the devil!
Fear, incarnate. Not unlike tevez when Rafael shook his finger!

  41. eddieTheRed says:

    smartalex;

I honestly believe that Cleverley was ready at the start of the season for a serious shot at United’s first team. As for the loan it included an option to recall the player during the transfer window; Cleverley did very well at Watford last year, scoring a lot of goals from midfield and he was one of United’s best players in the preseason tour of USA in 2010.

As has been discussed in this forum many times, this current United side seriously lacks creativity and dynamism in the centre of midfield; Cleverley, being a player new to the Premier League, might have been able to give us genuine penetration through the middle, partly due to his excellent running on and off the ball, and partly due to his physicality and drive.

If you want to know how highly the other sides rate him then just take a look at Micah Richards filthy tackle on him at Wastelands last weekend; the (as usual) incompetent ref let Richards off with a yellow and the Citeh player’s ape – like grin reminded me of Ross Kemp’s recent documentary about the Congo!

Point is, every other team in the Prem respects the ability of this player; all apparently except the team which produced him; frankly I think that Cleverley might well have converted some of those away draws into wins for us, simply by making himself difficult to handle!

  42. smartalex says:

    eddieTheRed:

Thanks for that informed response. I remember much disappointment when he did go on loan. He certainly is a highly rated player at United. We can’t know what impact he may have had, very positive I expect. Of course, had Park not been injured things also might be very different. Everyone is looking forward to Tom’s return and hopefully successful integration in to the first team. This rollercoaster has so many tracks and trains, how Sir Alex manages it all is extraordinary. We also could have kept Macheda, although turns out we haven’t needed him. Last year we needed a quality striker.

It’s not all bad though. Top, with players to return. We are strong and getting stronger.

  43. King Eric says:

Eddiethered. Ha ha. Superb line about ross kemp in the congo and micah richards. Yeah I was gutted when tom went on loan and as I said earlier on a different thread his time at wigan , for me, has been an absolute waste of time. He is a class player and aside from his obvious creative talent and goal scoring ability he is a tough hard working tenancious little bastard. Really looking forward to him having a great pre season with us and getting games at united next season. A great little player. His goal in the pre season where he kciked it over a couple of defenders heads before burying it was top drawer.

  44. King Eric says:

Oh and carragher has gone way down in my estimations. I actually quite liked before as he was always praising united and fergie. Horrible toerag cunt.

  45. RedHarry4Life says:

“Keane and Haaland had history, that went back, to when Keane done his knee at Leeds” Actually iot went back a lot further than that to when they were both at Forest. There was a training ground bust up were they had to be pulled apart.

There were some one here who said that Carragherass was”not the kind of player”. Bullshit, that was a deliberate tackle. it was what defenders call a “sorting out” tackle to soften up the player early on. he did the excact same thing to Rooney a few years back except it was on his thigh and rooney had to go off with blood streaming from it.

So he does have previous but as long as he was not a united player he wasnt ever going to get Lynch.

Anyone get a medical update on james mccartney?.. Is he out of intensive care yet?….Exactly how many minutes did he miss of football due to Wayne’s attempted murder on him?

King Kenny did wexactly the same thing years ago on Kevin Moran where Gordon McQueen e went over and looked at the injury and was nearly sick. So no chance of that turd saying anythuing at all.

Best part of King kenny ran down his dads leg!

  46. Ash says:

Frankly speaking liverpool fans should be ashamed of their team.Seriously their only goal in recent years have been to stop united from winning the league.Liverpool fans say they are the best club in england but i say they are the most fucking club.
Their fans cheered that their team lost against chelski last season at assfield. Now i dont know about other united fans but i wont pay to see our team lose.I want them to win every game.Hell i was even frustrated when we lost to west ham at old trafford in the last game of the season 3 years ago.
But io think we wont miss nani that much. The reason i say that is nani will be back after the international break. And wqe can win the next three games without him.
We should beat arsenal.quadruple my foot.
Marseille at home is also winnable.
    And same with bolton.
I cant see these as tough games.
So cmonnn boys dont disappoint us.

  47. Marching Red says:

    @ smartalex (23:51)
Thank the Lord… Lord Alex Ferguson? ;)

  48. brisbanefan says:

Perhaps the issuing of red and yellow cards should be looked at.
An idea would be to have an official in the stands with an array of cameras who could speak to the referee about incidents that occur on the field and order the ref to give the appropriate card.
The ref. would have more time to deal with the flow of the game and the controversial decisions would be taken out of his hands.
    Definitely something that’s worth trying.

  49. mattbw7 says:

I agree with Giles comments to a degree but lets forget it was in response to Haalands taunting of him about fake injuries while writhing on the turf in agony at Elland Road with a busted knee and quite how he thought he could sue Keane for ending his career when it was the opposite knee that gave up on him, lets face it was laughable and as for Carragher his apology was like his tackle to fucking late, we all know he’s trying to cultivate a media career for when he leaves the game and the first question he should be asked is about that tackle.

Gonna be 12000 gurning gooners at OT today with thier Mockney singing accents, hope to fuck we do em and get our season back on track, though it was a bit worrying to hear Ferguson talk of having 10 1st team players unavailable, is he softening us up for an FA Cup exit?

  50. mufc4life says:

MSG 2 SCHOLESY……….. PLAY 1 MORE YEAR, N WEN U GET THE CHANCE BREAK NE 1 OF THOS 2 SCOUSE BASTARDS LEGS…… standin over some1 thats injured is nt on, ul get wats comin 2 ya

  51. TonyBee says:

    Giles Oakley says:
If a United player did what Carragher did I would be ashamed of him. No question. I would not defend him. I disliked what Keane did to Haaland which reduced him in my eyes.

    but then Giles;
he stood up for RedNev and the Utd team against Patrick Viera who was skippering the Gooners and had been threatening vengeance against Nev for dishing out some bruises to one of the Gooners previously…..

Haagland was a prick in standing over Keano when his knee went and refused to apologize for his actions. If an apology had been offered when the true extent of Keano’s injury became apparent no more would of been said…. however no apology was offered basically telling Keano to fuck himself….hence retribution was sought….and taken….

  52. TonyBee says:

    smartalex says:
The closest Torres ever came to finding any G spot, is when he squeezed Gerard’s zits in the shower.

Fucking Classic one liner …..sorry its on this but it made me scream

  56. dela says:

    Morning everyone,

I was hoping that waking up late would make the wait for kickoff seem less frustrating, but it didn’t help one bit.

    @Tony
I never quite understood these half-Citeh, half- United couples. What do they do during the derby? Worse, how do their kids decide whom to support?

  57. whoisscholes says:

Hopefully our home support are up for it.I feel sometimes that all the various issues from related to our clubs cause some divisions among the fans.No matter what team steps out today, the fans should be the 12th man.Come on united.Time to repay fergie i feel. The shit he has received for the past couple of weeks is just pathetic.

  58. mikekelly12 says:

    @Dela
What they do is sit down as a family and have a well reasoned discussion about the merits of supporting each club. All Pro’s and Con’s are taken into account followed by the red half of the family laughing uncontrollably, slapping the ONE member of the household in sky blue and welcoming the new arrival into the Manchester United fold…..simples, squeek!!

  59. RedBlood says:

Morning lads! Got a great felling about todays game.Rumors doing rounds about Rodwell. But its just the bloody Sun.Hoping for more verifiable sources.

  60. RedBlood says:

  61. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning all

Where is Costas? We need his team selection.

Really looking forward to the game today and should shitty win would we rather have them in the semi or the final (I am assuming that we will win of course). Personally I would rather have them in the final, more heartbreaking beating them then as opposed to the semis.

    C’MON UNITED

  62. shebangsthedrums says:

Good morning peeps. Well I’m due to give birth to another Utd fan today and it’s the FA cup quarter final, so could be a very interesting day. I’ve got a radio in my bag ready incase anything happens and I can’t get to a TV. I do prefer us to play teams that are on a good run of form, I think we play better. Both teams need a good win to get over recent bad results, I just hope it’s us that comes out on top.

  63. RedBlood says:

    shebangsthedrums.Congratulations :)

  64. Costas says:

Morning everyone. Tony, you are late mate. We posted the team news last night, lol.

    @Cedars

Hi. I posted it yesterday. Something like this I feel:

VDS – Brown, Smalling, Vidic, Evra – Obertan, Carrick, Gibson, Fletcher, Rooney – Hernandez

  65. Costas says:

    @shebangsthedrums

    Congrats! :) All the best.

  66. CedarsDevil says:

shebangsthedrums – All the best and I hope you have a smooth delivery. Great to have another RED see the light!

Cheers Costas, personally I would rather see Berba & Hernandez starting.

  67. willierednut says:

Usually, I’d take what the sun paper has to say, with a big pinch of salt, but the Rodwell rumors haven’t went away, so there must be something in It. 25 million though? That seems a tad steep, to me.

  68. Costas says:

The Rodwell and Young rumors seem fishy if you ask me. Are their contracts up for renewal or anything? It could be all their agents’ work.

    @Cedars

I think we will need Berb more on Tuesday. I know that he hasn’t scored in the Ch.League in 2 and a half years, but Berb, Scholes and Giggs will be essential in opening up Marseille’s defence. So I’d save them for that game.

  69. shebangsthedrums says:

Thanks gents, just doing my bit to keep the strong Utd fanbase going for years to come.

  70. mattbw7 says:

    Shebangsthedrums,thoughts on names?

  71. Giles Oakley says:

My earlier comments on Keane don’t mean I condone Carragher in any way at all. He’s a contemptible little shit and his career-threatening lunge on Nani should never be forgotten. It should be a stain on his career for ever. The contrast in the media between the coverage of Carragher’s lunge and Rooney’s elbow is, to coin a phrase, ‘ a disgrace’. We should keep up the rage on this topic at every opportunity. Hound the little Scouse bastard.

Nor does it mean when I criticise Keane for extracting vengeance on Haaland that I don’t understand why he wanted retribution. I have utter contempt for Haaland, especially the way he tried to blame the Keane tackle for the ending of his career. I am not in any way defending Haaland’s taunting of the stricken Keane or anything else about him. But what Keane did was stupid, selfish (damaging his own team) and un-sporting.

Criticising Keane for his worst actions doesn’t mean I don’t love his best moments. He was one of the greatest players ever to pull on the red shirt, and I wish we’d got him playing now.Who could forget him standing up to Viera in the tunnel at Highbury? One of the great United moments (although I’ve always wondered gow Gary Nev feels about it, given that it sort of implies that he was too much of a weed to stand up for himself…)

I’m with you Dela, I also ‘never quite understand these half-Citeh, half United couples’ You ask, ‘How do their kids decide who to support?’ Well, I’m puzzled how such couples have kids in the first place.

  72. willierednut says:

You’re due to give birth today and you’re posting on here? You just can’t beat that dedication.

  73. mattbw7 says:

I dont think anyones having a pop at you Giles and its great to see you spewing venom like the rest of us, as you are normally very erudite, I guess you scratch the surface and we’re all bloodthirsty one eyed reds at the end of the day.

I would put it this way with the keane/haaland incident, keane was always the first in line to defend UTD and his teammates (the nev highbury thing) so he wasn’t going to be shy or ask anyone else to sort Haaland for him it was always going to happen given his record the only difference was it was for himself, we have to let him have that I guess.

  74. Giles Oakley says:

Shebangs thedrum, sorry, I meant to wish you all the very best today. Fingers crossed for you – and United!

  75. wiuru says:

My take on events is that we fell foul of a deliberate Liverpool ploy ……
Nani moved to carraghers flank having identified he was the weak link . Carragher knows he is going to get skinned and cynically takes Nani out not even subtley !
With in minutes of the restart our other threat young Fabio is given studs by Maxi leading to an attempt to get the ball Of Him with the teeth = yellow card (hair pulling not seen ) A good afternoons work by Dalglish’s so called team .

  76. mattbw7 says:

A thought just occured are teams now embarking on these rough tactics cos they’ve realised that the refs are too stupid to recognise them for what they are, too scared to issue the correct response and too unstreetwise to see the hair pulling off the ball stuff etc etc.

  77. willierednut says:

Costas – Rodwell signed a new deal last season. Young is refusing to sign a new deal ATM.

  78. Costas says:

    @willie

So that explains the Young rumors. Remember the Evra/Real or Vida/Real rumors in recent seasons, right before the signed new contracts. I really feel that it was their agents stirring the pot.

Don’t know what the Rodwell thing is about. Maybe he feels that this is his big chance to sign for a bigger club. The only way I can see us buying him is if we offer someone like Carrick or Wes plus cash. But since the former has just signed a new contract…

  79. smartalex says:

You would normally only expect her to fall pregnant if shebangsthedrummer, unless it’s a cymbal of their love.

Congratulations lad, and shebangsthedrum! Good luck, hope you don’t need extra time!

  80. mattbw7 says:

When the wife was pregnant with our eldest she was in hospital on the night of ECWC final, so there I was with a my personal radio in on ear and trying to pay attention to her and the game, she was not happy. She still reminds me of it now.

  81. smartalex says:

mattbw7, as long as you were there for the conception. Why does Delivery have to be observed by Design? Prepare the plans and submit a hard copy. Once accepted, surely production and distribution should be handled by the mere mortal and her cohorts?

  82. Gorse Hill Red says:

Yes Carraghers tackle was a disgrace but what was even more of a disgrace was the Phil Dowd’s handling of the situation. He allowed himself to be influenced by pedo Gerrard and bottled it once again the fat overweight cunt.

  83. Ben says:

Sometimes though it is hard for us fans to move on when you read shite like this>>> http://www.footballfriends.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7507988

    What an idiot eh?

But yeah, we will always prove them wrong.

  84. Giles Oakley says:

Excellent post re Dogleash, Wiuru. You’re right about the dippers targetting our wingmen. Nasty stuff and yet the King Kenny legend rolls on.

  85. TonyBee says:

Giles…at least we agree on one etching …Dalglish is putting the ‘thuggishness’ back into the dippers

  86. wayne says:

i hope someone does that cunt serious

  87. denislaw74 says:

@ TonyBee, by bin dippers are you talking about the folk from Manchester, the most crime riden city in England (fact)!! I dont see you condeming roy (prawnsandwicheatingmanu))keane for his assault on haaland wich ended his carrer, cuntana’s kung fu kick on an innocent fan, giggs beating a woman in a night club, rafaels 2 footed studs off the ground, knee high assault attempt on lucas, rooney severel elbows and several other assaults and evans disgusting and disgraceful intentintional attempt to harm tackle on boltons midfielder, plus that ratty liity shit scholes attempts to injure every week.

If social movement has it’s way you bunch of “mancs/gypsies” would be sterelised, at least that would rid us of the tax dependant, work dodging scum that you are, all we would have to deal with is the 80’000 asians that fly in to watch man u!
