Fergie: De Gea For League, Anders For Cup

After starting Anders Lindegaard in last night’s draw away to Benfica, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that David de Gea will be back in the team on Sunday.

Like with Tomasz Kuszczak last season, Lindegaard will likely play our Champions League group stage and domestic cup games, whilst de Gea will remain our number one in the league.

“We have two great goalkeepers,” said Ferguson. “We were always going to share it and David will play on Sunday against Chelsea and possibly Anders will play at Leeds next Tuesday, depending upon how we see the situation with Ben Amos, who needs some game time also. There are opportunities to spread the load. The English league is so frenetic. Coming into that, as a young goalkeeper, there will be times when we can give him a break. Tonight was a good moment because he had a fantastic game on Saturday.”

Anders ( the terminator) Lindegaard was fantastic last night well played son!! great to see we have great back up if David de gea gets an injury!

    de gea our no.1 choice

Typically brilliant decision by Sir alex, who’s man-management and squad-preparation skills are legendary. Both keepers can be developed and therefore ready when required.

gud on that anders is great

Great decision by sir Alex, Lindegaard needs to play games too, as he said “I’m not at Man United to pick my nose”

@smartalex, Thanks mate! However, I don’t think anyone would want to even watch highlights of the game from yesterday, lol.

I still think that down the line we may be forced to sell one of them (mostly Lindegaard) because they are so good that they don’t want to be No. 2. As good as Sir Alex’s managerial skills are (and they are legendary), it will be nigh-impossible to keep two world-class goalkeepers happy when one of them will be playing for a fraction of the games if the No. 1 is fit. Consistency is key in that one area of the park. And that realization makes me sad to no end.

    No comments on PIG?
we should have let him go.. no need for a moany player in the dressing room…

    Ship him off in January!!

    in reply to Alom

To be fair I am sure Fergie won’t let him near the 1st team dressing room. He clearly is rotting in the reserves and will be shipped in Jan. Does seem strange we did not get rid of him in the summer

@Balaji, a pleasure, I guess! Sorry I took so long to reply, I’ve been reading all the comments since yesterday. We are extremely lucky on RoM to have some top contributors. We also are infected with a plague of moronic haters that do NOT care for United.

    Oh well …

top marks to the lad for his keeping performance yesterday. But i can sort of understand what Peter Schemeichel is saying when he’s not the right keeper for United. Hear me out before jumping on my throat.

There’s no denying he’s got a pair of absolutely safe gloves on him. But GK for a team like United means a lot of the time, the keeper is the one that launches our attack turning defense into a swift counter attack, or when the defenders and midfielders manage to draw in opposing players freeing up space in the offensive area. This mean it is ABSOLUTELY vital for our keeper to be able to distribute quickly and accurately!

This is where Anders is clearly miles behind the likes of Schemeichel, VDS and De Gea. His display with his throws and kicks, although aren’t as shoddy as PIG, is still clearly lacking. He takes too long to pick out the right distribution (I swear he probably has up to 10 minute of possession in yesterday’s game, i almost wanted Fabio to 2foottackle him!).

If he’s able to drastically improve on his decision making when it comes to distributing the ball and improves on his accuracy and range of his kicks and throw, that will be the day when he can claim to be a United keeper. This may seem harsh- but in my opinion this is absolutely vital in the modern game, especially with a team such as United.

There will be plenty of games. Problem in the past is that we didn’t really have confidence in our number 2 keeper. If we can keep confidence high then we have a great situation. We should always have 3 senior keepers. 4 can even work if an injury worry is in the cards. Back of your mind you can always see that you wanted Kuz to be here this year “Just in case” it didn’t work out with David Anders or Amos. Since all the young lads are coming on well, we might just sell Tomaz if we get a good price.
Am disappointed for Tomaz, but in the scheme of things feel the situation has gone pretty well for the club.

De Gea maybe no.1 choice, but I feel hes too young, inexperienced & could very well cost United the 20th.

when van der sar got injured i was always a bit scared when kuszczak or foster stepped up to replace him. but with anders out there, i’m not scared at all. it’s great to have 2 top quality keepers out there.

    will be…”the great dane”…..after PS….

So TK have to go then..SAF didnt talk about him anymore..I think this situation is very good to make positive competition between DDG and Lindegaard.

    David be number1.
