Fergie: De Gea Is Not The Finished Article Yet

Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that David de Gea will gain plenty of confidence from his brilliant performance against Real Madrid earlier this week.

The manager claims that De, who is still only 22-years-old, will become an even better goalie in the next few years.

“Maturity helps,” said Ferguson. “There are very few goalkeepers who are the finished article at 20 years of age. There are some examples, like Gianluigi Buffon and Petr Cech. That’s not always the case. Peter Schmeichel didn’t join us until he was 27 and then gave us eight great years. Normally for goalkeepers it’s the mid-20s until you get the finished article. A good performance helps everyone. It gives them confidence, there’s no doubt about that. It won’t change him. He is a down-to-earth boy.”

Like CR7 and even DB7 before him, he will transform from boy to man at mufc. Raw talent is there.

  2. Robin van Gora says:

  3. Little Red Ant says:

My biggest fear is once he’s the finished article he’s playing in Spain, lets hope the Utd way rubs off on him

  5. Red4ever says:

Think he is not finished article yet but simply producing saves like this against shitty , chelsea , fulham and now madrid just imagine how good he will be in future if he keeps his head down and works hard he will be the best goalkeeper in the world ,,i think giggs record could be in threat if he keeps playing at utd he is just 22 how many matches will he play till he is 40 keep working lad and be mancunian for life

David de gea I̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊ just superb. I have never doubted him a bit. You reds should stop slating any player that dons our jersey. Get behind them and support them. United we stand divided we ………….. Man utd for life.

  7. Lewandowski bah says:

Great performance by him keep it up.

  8. samuel - united WE stand says:

He’s spanish, he’s bound to have interest to return home one day, i think that’s inevitable but united can get the most out of him, hopefully for a longer period and perhaps if the united way does ingrain on him, he may stay even longer but not everyone will finish their careers at one club, even if i hope de gea does. accept it.

  9. WeAreUnited says:

If we can get from him 5-7 years more and a great transfer fee,I’ll be glad, if 10 then I will be even happier and if for his entire career?

that would be our best business around.

  10. WeAreUnited says:

  11. belfast red. says:

For me keepers need to grow in confidence more than any other player on the pitch. And that match has to make him feel 15 foot tall. Loved how S.A.F brought him out for the press conference. He knows we love him already and hes got the backing of the boss. He can be the greatest (has the potential). With Sir Alex guiding him and building the foundations i can see us having a Great dane mark 2!
