I agree with Rooninho, I would much sooner Rooney speak with his unerring honesty than listen to a lot of the other spineless pricks that play for England.
I personally am not an England fan and don’t give a shite whether they win or lose. I lost interest years ago when the anti UTD muppets started singing ‘Stand up if you hate Man U’, but if I was a fan I would appreciate the role that Rooney plays for England. He still plays like someone on his first cap and rather than sticking him in front of the cameras at every opportunity, the FA would be do much better than leaving the interviews to Lampard, Terry etc. and harness Rooney’s patriotism and self belief into a secondary role where he could assist Stuart Pearce with the odd training session with the under 21’s. Not in a playing role but a ‘get into their heads’ role that could boost their own confidence.
This could never happen though as there is no revenue potential for the FA in Rooney putting an arm round a nervous player who needs every bit of confidence after breaking into either the U21 or the full squad.
Another reason it could never happen is player’s don’t look up to their peer’s like they would have done years ago. Any player who Rooney tried to offer advice to would be more likely to treat him with derision than take the advice.For my money most of the players in the England squad would eat themselves if they were made of chocolate and for that reason I think Rooney is pushed in front of the cameras to show the honesty, humility and passion that some of the senior players lack but every England fan can appreciate regardless of their club loyalties.
Sponsorship brings a lot of money into the game but takes a lot of the honesty out of it.

I blame Rooney entirely for this state of affairs. He shouldn’t be the only England player in the last year who seems to care. It’s embarrassing to see the guy busting a gut trying to spearhead a team that is undermined by a core of players with almost no heart at all.

It’s weird to see Rooney doing interviews before each england game, mainly because of his sponsors and FA as Fergie has said, but when it comes to handing out punishments in the premier league utd players including Rooney, actually utd as a whole, are treated the harshest by the Fucking Arseholes.
