Fergie: Fans Know How Important Fletcher Is

Darren Fletcher will make his return to the first team today after missing our last five games through injury.

With the United game coming up this weekend, the manager recognises Fletcher’s return as a big boost.

“Most people now recognise Darren Fletcher as a big-game player,” said Ferguson. “We have been aware of that for quite a while. Now he is getting an acceptance that he is a very important player for us. Our fans see that he is a key player in major games. That has been very important to the lad because it gives him a confidence. He has been missed in some key games recently and yes, it is great to have the boy back.”

    Absolutely true… He was sorely missed at anfield! Hope he’s back to his best at Stamford Bridge this sunday..

  2. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

    He will stamp his authority as one of our biggest player, no doubt about it. I hope he will crush the diamond into powder.

  3. Snoopy says:

    Welcome back!

  4. berbaiit says:

    He is a magnificent player. We can see we badly missed him during last matches. Fergie should play Fletcher and Anderson as our first choice midfield partnership. Scholes should be in the team only against bottom half and also Fergie must give chance to Tosic also. Otherwise it be a waste of talent.

  5. Sunday says:

    We really missed you Fletcher.
    you are welcome back, just remember one thing;
    stanford brigde must fall please.
    that’s all i wanted from you on sunday.

  6. aig alex is god says:

    One of the most under rated players in the premier league.Loves to get stuck in and also ocassionally make late runs in the box and score a few goals.Our midfield will look great when he and hargreaves come back.Fletch can go further forward and hargo can protect the back 4.
    How surprising is it that the player our fans were slating 3-4 years back is ths most important player in our team now?.Yes i think he is more important than Rooney and i said this before the Anfield game as well.My hopes reduced when i saw no fletch and i was right.He has been excellent against Spurs,Man City and Arsenal(the 3 big games he has played in)

  7. wazza (Bezi) says:

    Dazza is back. anybody read the story about Fletch with his twins playing in the penalty area at OT after the Rovers match. are they boys or girls ?

  8. Tony_Oldham says:

    When Fletcher got slated off United fans it has got to be purely put at Fergusons door, it was clear to every United fan that Fletcher was no wide player and yet in his early years persisted on playing him out wide. Especially down to the fact he was one of the players coming into replace a wide player like Beckham, it was bad management on Feries part that got the fans back up and i think set Flatcher back a few years and why we are only seeing the best of him now and not alot earlier. As is the center i seriously cant remember him having a BAD game. This was not a post of Fergie bashing, there are not many things i would slag him off for.

  9. ajopaul says:

    I cannot forget his all important goals in the city derby!

  10. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

    If you think winning a Champions League final in Rome agaionst Barcelona is important then we definitely do realise how important Fletcher is.
    His (unfair) dismissal in the semi-final kept him from playing and allowed Iniesta free reign. Fletcher has become a very, very impressive player and his importance cannot and should not be underestimated.
    @aig alex is god
    Absolutely spot on mate. Hargo and Fletcher playing together again will be like having a £50million quid midfield pair of new boys. THEN HEAR US ROAR !
    If we can get Rio back on awesome form (which we will) and if we can splurge on a certain spanish striker in January (Villa) then we will be the awesome power for all to fear.

  11. Macedonia_United says:

    Great news ahead of sunday, first Kai ,now Fletcher, hope tonight berba and owen score a couple :P

  12. aig alex is god says:

    @READ CAREFULLY WHAT I said

    spot on mate.although i will fancy wolfsburg striker Dzeko instead of villa because i dont think villa will come because he will fancy spain and villa is 28 while dzeko is 23 and a good strong striker and he will be available for 20-25 million while we will have to pay over the odds for villa.

    But i think we dont have to sign a striker till the summer.Owen berba and wazza are good enough.with the midfield back to its best i can see the number of goals we will concede reducing quite a lot.

    your bag of quotes is very impressive.you are hitting top gear and when that happens your comments are a joy to read.

  13. Stretford Ender says:

    I think Fletch has responded the way Berba might have to from some of our less understanding fans. Fletcher got his head down and played, the potential was always there but as usual some of our less aware fans slated his ability. It’s the same with Berba, some morons are still questioning the guys ability. I agree with earlier posts, David Villa would be brilliant, but he is at his peak now, he would have to adapt to the prem and then we’d have another one maybe two years. I think Dzeko is a much more exciting prospect for the future, the kid gave our back four the run around at OT, and has had some big clubs enquire over the summer. I truly believe it’s a playmaker we miss, Fletch will be great to have back, but he wont get the 20 goals a season like fat Frank or StevieME. I love Hargo, and he will be amazing again, I have no doubt, however I think we still miss a Joe Cole/Iniesta player.

  14. aig alex is god says:

    @Stretford Ender

    the answer to your question is

    Napoli’s marik Hamsik
    Standard Lieges Stevan Defour
    Fiorentinas Stevan Jovetic.

    any one of these 3 will do.Jovetic is 20.hamsik 22 and Defour 21.My choice is hamsik.he looks great band scores against the big sides.scored 2 against Juventus at the weekend as napoli beat Juve at home.

  15. King Eric says:

    Morning.

    aig and stretford ender – I think we are ok creativity wise in the middle of the park. Is there a better passer of the ball than Carrick when he is on his game? Aside from Scholesy. You cannot compare him to the likes of Stevie Me when Gerrard is more of a second striker. When he is fit anyway! As for Carrick he had his best game of the season on Saturday and looks like he is getting his form back.

    As for Fletch great news. THE best box to box midfielder in Britain. Tony – Oldham I know what you mean but I don’t think playing him out wide took him back a bit but the fact he had two awful injuries to overcome. Fergie likes to play them out wide as well as in the middle just to add another string to their bows.

  16. theboogeyman says:

    Darren Fletcher is one my favourite players.Our most important as well,IMO.We missed him at Anfield, we missed him in Rome. For the depth of our squad, we have only him and Hargo in that role and then Hargo got injured so we have to rely on Fletcher. We can play without him in most games but in the big games, he is the player we really need if Hargreaves is not there.

  17. bigphil2003 says:

    @Stretford Ender,
    I heard the answer to your question will be Adem Ljajic, but who’s to say how true that is. I’m certainly excited to see what he can bring.

  18. bigphil2003 says:

    Also, for me Fletch was MOTM in the Charity Shield so I’m hoping he’ll repeat the feat on Sunday.

  19. Macheda is GOD says:

    oh yeah streford ender
    my answer to you would be Steven defour

  20. wazza (Bezi) says:

    we guys in India can’t watch the match live tonight :-( . atleast will get to see a repeat tomorrow evening :-)

  21. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

    sorry mate.Carrick is struggling badly IMO.a few good games and few poor ones will not convince me.he needs to do well consistently.we need someone who can get goals from midfield.Ando is not scoring goals.as i have said before if Ronaldo was still there we would not have needed anyone because he made up for the goals from the entire midfield but now we need everyone to chip in.ando has to score atleast 10 and with his woeful shooting i doubt whether he can get that many.Valencia looks the only one who can get 10.nani is not a regular and Carrick hasnt scored many.I admit though ando is looking good this season.

    Talking about Ljajic,the lad is just 18,so it would be foolish to expect him to come in and hit the ground running immediately..

  22. aig alex is god says:

    @wazza (Bezi)

    try live streaming.The match is delayed on ten sports at 3 15 am after the milan real game.

  23. Corea says:

    @ wazza (Bezi)

    it’s not that difficult nowadays.
    try myp2p.eu

    It’s interesting to compare Fletch with Hargo nowadays. I can’t say who is better in terms of playing as a DM, they are a bit different.
    But if Hargo, and i pray he eventually will, gets back to full fitness it won’t necessary be the problem in picking the right player and there are 2 reasons for that.
    1. Rotation.
    2. Hargo is more versatile type of player. It’s a shame our week point is more on the left side because to play on the right side for Hargo is not a problem.

  24. Hurdy Gurdy Man says:

    Im sick of watching game online. poor quality and constantly being blocked. espn ruin my life

  25. Macheda is GOD says:

    Go to this website at the start of the match,scroll down search manchster united v CSKA
    you will get LIVE stream.

  26. willierednut says:

    @aig
    I have to disagree pal, i wud say wazza is our most important player. As ive said before i think the team shud be built around wazza, he’s our most destructive player. As for fletch i think he’s the most improved player at the club, to think 4 or 5 years ago he was getting dogs abuse from a section of our fans.

  27. pawaka21 says:

    does anybody knows any live streaming for match tonight?

  28. wazza (Bezi) says:

    those streams suck big time. as Hurdy Gurdy Man said they get blocked many a time or reception quality is poor.
    @AIG : that’s the most awkward time to get up and watch the repeat telecast.

  29. ancha says:

    why do you want to get up @wazza(Bezi)…i guess you can watch milan real match which is followed by the recap of UTD CSKA

  30. aig alex is god says:

    @willierednut

    i agree that wazza will the main man and the team will be built around him.my saying is fletcher is the most important player especially when it comes to these big games.Rooney was poor against the dippers.why?because he hardly got a look in?why did that happen?because we did not control the midfield in the game and that happened because we lacked a ball winner like fletch.fletch will help us control games better and we need him to play these games.he is a more important requirement in these big clashes

  31. ancha says:

    for all the creativity talk that is going on here..i dont want anyone new to come in ( no transfers)…i feel Obertan is genuinly talented..i was on my feet for the whole half n hr or so whn he was on the pitch…he may have fluffed some easy chances but that can put down to his nervousness of playing first game for such a club as UTD…i think once he finds the rythym that he is talking about in the post match press…we need not worry about creativity on our wings…he along with Tosic and valencia are more than enough…oops and i forgot ..nani too..
    and about getting a new striker..i seriously think it would eat up the playing time of our young talented developinn strikers..(macheda n welbeck…and king too)….and growth of some of the exciting young talents we have like ljajic, petrucci..will slow down relatively…if we are to get direct fit ins to out first team…

  32. aig alex is god says:

    wazza (Bezi)

    agree mate. i have to go to get up at 7 30 so i woudnt be watching it ostly even if it was at 1 15 live.willl try to sleep early and get up watch the game on my laptop.wednesdays are tiring for me with office at 9 in the morning and MBA Classes at 7 in the evening so i mostly wont watch tonight.

  33. ancha says:

    i am going to stay up all nite for the matches…and have to attend office at 7 in the morning…that looks like an exciting prospect..!!!

  34. Dr.Hannibal says:

    As i am a surgeon , i need to go O.T. i can’t watch the match either like my PUNTER friend WAZZA (BEZI)..!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. Muggaz says:

    I really hope Nani does a Fletcher. My hand is up as one of the faithful that moaned when I saw Fletcherinho’s name on the team sheet, now I moan when he isn’t on it. If Nani can do what Fletcher did, happy days at United indeed… alas, i’m not holding my breath.

  36. King Eric says:

    aig – Yeah fair play mate but how many goals does Defour score? Not many if I remember right. Anyway off for the coach for tonights game soon. See you later on.

  37. theboogeyman says:

    King Eric-You’re a right lucky bastard.I can’t even watch the game on the fucking telly.

  38. denton davey says:

    Muggaz @ 14:45 – I agree about the Nani/Fletcherinho comparison and just hope that Nani matures as well as TheScottishPlayer has done – for sure, he has all the tools.

    What I find interesting in the comments in this thread is the assumption that SAF is going to stay wedded to a 4-4-2. I’m not convinced by that assumption – mainly because neither Rooney nor Berbatov has been comfortable (or convincing) playing in that system. Both of them would do best in a 4-3-3 or even a 4-5-1 with a fast predator up-front. Obviously, Little Mikey’s health/conditioning isn’t up that challenge but David Villa – or someone who is “fast as a wet fart” – would be astonishing in that role.

    The 4-4-2’s wingers – Nani and Valencia – have yet to prove that keeping the two of them on the pitch at the same time is worth the “cost” of having just two central midfielders, only one of whom has specific defensive role.

    It will be more-than-a-little-interesting to see how SAF sets up his stall on Sunday, against the RentBoyz. My guess is that he will play Carrick in the “Hargreaves role”, as a deep-lying midfield anchor, with Giggs/Anderson and Fletcherinho on either side of him. Up-front, I think he will play a “three” of Rooney and Berbatov with Valencia/Nani on the right (to keep Ca$hley Hole in check) while Evra will be given the job of providing width on the left, pinning back the RentBoyz’ right back.

    The game on Sunday at Stamford Bridge is now “the biggest match of the year” – to date. It’s a match that the RentBoyz NEED to win; on the other hand, UTD only NEED to not lose. A draw in London would be an excellent, early-season result – a victory would be a spectacular bonus.

  39. John Ferry says:

    Fletcher I think is one of the best passing midfielders in the EPL. The boy defends like a lion and opens teams up with pinpoint passes. I don’t think he gets enough credit for his passing abilities.

  40. Stretford Ender says:

    Thanks for the feedback boys, AIG as usual sense is spoken in your comments. I have watched a lot of Defour, he is very promising. I like Jovetic but have only seen a few of his games, Hamsik is quality I agree, would love him to come to United. Fergie clearly has his eye on Defour after THAT letter. I know what you mean about Carrick not being compared to Gerrard, but he can be to our past CM’s. Paul Scholes chipped in a lot. I want to see Carrick dominate games like Fabregas is doing for Arsenal week in week out! Good luck to our boys tonight, let’s have a couple of Owen goals, and let’s hope Akinfeev impreses (not too much!!)

  41. theboogeyman says:

    John Ferry-Same with Keano, wasn’t it?

  42. cantona7 says:

    i miss u Fletcher..

    i also miss Owen Hargreaves..

    The one i miss the most is the best centreback in the world, Rio Ferdinand.

    I’ve been observing for quite sometime, our fans want SAF to buy some players.. Some of our fans are busy discussing the names.. For me, what our team has now is enough. Our team right now is the most beautiful team in the world, we have the perfect balance. The evergreen veterans, world class players, and immensely talented young players. From all over the world, with British players as the core. If Fergie buys some more, it’s a plus for me. Gary Neville, Wes Brown and Rafael Da Silva is enough for me, but if we get Maicon, i would gladly accept it.

  43. RedDeviled Egg says:

    Anyone know if any date has been set for Hargreaves to return?

  44. wazza (Bezi) says:

    i miss curly hair most and glad to have orange hair back fit :-)
