Fergie: Moyes has integrity and a work ethic

Sir Alex Ferguson has explained the reasons why he recommended David Moyes to replace him as Manchester United manager.

“What I know of David is he’s hard working and has an integrity about him,” said Fergie. “He’s also got a work ethic about him and he’s a serious football man. I think these are the qualities he’s going to need. He’s got a perseverance about him – look at what he’s done at Everton. 11 years without any tremendous financial backing but he’s persevered with it and created some decent teams in the last few years. They are the qualities he’s going to need at our club. The one thing you have to do is definitely sacrifice and persevere – it’s not always a golden path of riches. You have hard days and difficult days especially with the losses. We lost in the last seconds – for 10 seconds we were champions last year – but that’s part of our history and we’re used to that. Our supporters have suffered many things but also enjoyed many things. It’s just part of our history.”

Thank you Sir Alex. The lessons you taught go way beyond the footballing arena. Football is a better sport because of you!

I accept everything that SAF is saying there.
A lot of comparisons have been made between SAF and Moyes before they came to United.

    At Everton, Moyes has won:
    Nothing at all.

    At Aberdeen, SAF won:
    Scottish Premier Division (3): 1979–80, 1983–84, 1984–85
    Scottish Cup (4): 1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86
    Scottish League Cup (1): 1985–86
UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup (1): 1982–83
    UEFA Super Cup (1): 1983

Aberdeen! A small club from Scotland won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Super Cup…! He smashed the Old Firm dominance. The last team to win the league who were not Rangers or Celtic. SAF had the experience to come to a club like Manchester United. United hadn’t won anything since the days of SMB.

So is Moyes the man that can really take United to that next level? Can’t see it myself.
