Whilst our attacking players are on the receiving end of some stick at the moment, Sir Alex Ferguson says he is happy with how Dimitar Berbatov is playing and is just waiting for the first goal to come.
“It is his style of play rather than the effect he has on the game,” said Ferguson. “He is a very good player and I am particularly happy with him. Dimitar would like to score a goal. Strikers always feel as if scoring goals is the most important thing. That is the case with him and Michael, who could also do with one. He should have scored two on Wednesday. His movement and positional play in the final third is very good. We are just waiting on that one goal because it will set him off. I am sure of that.”

Man Utd News 24/7

he is a classic player. its up to fergie to use him properly. i still say berba is our main man. if this guy scores 20-25 goals this season then united will win the league. i have full faith in berba abd owen.
get them today lads, its been a hell of a few days with the ABUs all criticizing us
itd be nice to set an example of somebody
berba is such a class player,its only a matter of time before he scores this season,same goes for roo and owen,we get this every season when we get off to a stuttering start,the papers are on our backs straight away,but one team will get a hammering soon,lets hope its against wigan this afternoon,come on reds!!!!!
i love berba, he’s class his touch is perfect there aren’t many players with his abilities! he’s not too dissimilar to the way bergkamp played!
sorry but i have never been a fan of the player…i already miss carlos tevez..:(
Agreed Red Dave!
Until then, Come On England!
Still not convinced we even need him.
Not saying he isn’t a class player. But we were still looking to sign a £30milion striker over the Summer when we had already signed Berbatov.
Plus already have Rooney to play in the hole.
Gives us a different option but not effective enough at the moment.
Early doors though. See how he progresses through out the season.
@ Nee-Mania Vidic
just how on earth is tevez better than berbatov? tell me one thing he does better.
@Fze123
Workrate?
whats an ABU? im aware it means the national rags but why ABU’s?
@andre_k
ABU = Anyone But United
Thought he was excllent when he came on against burnley. He really looked like he wanted to take the game by the scruff of the neck. He always wanted the ball and was constantly trying to make things happen. He looks much more determined so i expect him to have a great season. Rooney and Berba both on form would be a nightmare for any defence.
i still rate tevez as a player. but now its no point comparing him with berba. i wont say berba is better than tevez or vice versa . the first condition to play in any club let alone united is to respect ur colleagues and managers. i think tevez didnt do that. so its no point talking abt him.
I think there’s a real risk of Berbatov being our downfall.
His arrival precipated the demise of Carlos Tevez, and although we won the league again last season it was not done with the same panache as in our previous years. Since then we’ve lost Ronaldo and Tevez, two players to set the pulses racing.
Like much of the Stretford End I enjoy watching Berbatov’s skills and touches, which can be sublime. But how often does his wonderful touch enhance our attack?
More often than not he slows the attack, particularly with his tricks and flicks, and he lacks the overall pace, which is United’s trademark.
I still don’t think he’s the player we thought we were getting. It was one thing being able to shine in a team like Tottenham, where he could be Mr Big, but at United he is at a powerhouse packed with genuine superstars and he needs to up his game. Otherwise, he just appears to be standing still – and standing still is something he seems particularly good at.
This is not a knee-jerk reaction to Burnley, but a considered thought after a frustrating day at Wembley and the disappointment of not wiping the floor with Birmingham. We need to act as we cannot rely on Berbatov.
With Owen not (yet) finding the touch which prompted Fergie to pin such faith in him, and Berbatov continuing to flatter to deceive, I believe we are running the risk of slipping behind our rivals and leaving ourselves with too much catching up to do.
I admire Fergie’s loyalty to a player he shelled out so much for, but I really think we need to buy big right away. Not only would a David Silva improve our attacking and creative options, it would also lift morale on the terraces and in the dressing room, where it would appear to be sagging.
I’d love nothing more than to be eating these words come next May – and I know I’ll be barracked mercilessly here for questioning Fergie’s support of his record buy – but I genuinely fear all the good work of the past three and a bit seasons is in danger of being thrown away.
Yeah… gonna miss the 5 goals tevez scored for us last season… djeezeez
I wouldn’t be worrying about the ability of Berbatov. We have no authority and limited ability in the midfield. Rooney is coming back to far to get the ball, limiting our ability to make fast breakouts and allowing the opposition to get set.
Tevez never beat anyone with skill, Berbatov’s first touch
(the hallmark of great players) is superb. The others need to be there to take advantage of the opportunities he can create.
Berba is Fucking class!! What is wrong today!? He scored more & made more than Tevez 4 us! And his first touch make’s Tev’s look like wood on willow!
Our loss was due to a poor 1st half performance and an inspired Burlney home display. You shud all know we start seasons slow (and I don’t really like that) but that’s us.. In a month, after he has single handedly won us a tough game, then let’s see what the Berbahaters have to sat…
Berba will be our downfall?? WTF
@ Red Dave, fully agree, We need to smash it today. Send a message.
After the stick this week, I could do with a Cigar for MOTD this time!
COME ON UNITED!!
@ Ben dover (loved your movies man) & TheManInALandDownUnder
SPOT ON!!hahahaha
ps. Anyone else who misses Tevez?? Put a scar on Park (wherever he may be…) and play him upfront! and your hearts will ache no more.. :O)
MKRed..how many times have you watched David Silva play? Once? Twice? Thrice? Are you yapping on about him coz uv read rumours that we are intrested in him and the rags opinion about him? Is he any better than Nani? Valencia?
@AlphaRS
cheers mate, always wonderd what it meant!
Message to berba prove all the abu wrong and score 2day.
Don Pablo…as someone who has been earning a very good living from football for 35 years (including working with players who have gone on to be major World Cup figures) I think I have a reasonable grasp of the game. Certainly enough to know that David Silva (who I have seen play dozens of times) is an entirely different player to Nani or Valencia.
It’s probably my fault that I failed previously to get my point across. I was not necessarily advocating that Fergie rush out and buy Silva (although I wouldn’t be upset if he did) but suggesting that a playmaker of that ilk might be an answer to the intermittent malaise that has been apparent since even before we went to Rome. Not just that, the arrival of a player from the world game’s top bracket could provide a massive boost to morale all round after a summer that has seen us lose Ronaldo and crowd favourite Tevez.
I believe that, wonderful player though he is, Berbatov does not appear to me as a perfect fit for this latest incarnation of United. The team of the past 3 seasons has been all about pace, movement and fizz: he slows down the attack with his touch and trickery, and lacks the basic pace of a Rooney, Ronaldo, Saha or Tevez.
If you manage to catch footage of Tevez two seasons ago or at the start of last season, you will see a totally different player to the unhappy striker who finished the campaign. The arrival of Berbatov, I believe, had a major psychological effect on Tevez and started his downward spiral. We won’t miss the player who waved goodbye to Old Trafford in May but there will be times when we miss the striker who was a key part of the three-pronged attack that swept all before them in 2007-08.
The worst signing in our history and Fergie’s biggest dropped bollock in the transfer market. We got far more value out of Forlan and Saha than we’ll ever have with this sulky enigma. Just watching that first half and seeing Titus Bramble mark him out of the game makes my blood boil. I really hope Macheda and Welbeck are given more chances to prove themselves because they show more desire to succeed than this guy
get in berba,been class AGAIN 2nil
Berba’s a great player, just not a great man utd player. I hope I’m proved wrong, but have u ever seen anyone break down n stop a utd counter attacking like this guy does?! I never saw anything about that was worth bringing him to utd for, but SAF is the man in who we trust and let’s c….
Must have you made your blood boil to see him score huh?
so you were happy with his first half performance ? i’m glad he scored but watch the game back today was all about Nani stepping up in those big boots. Proof regarding Berbatov will be next week against arsenal if he’ll has the same impact i’ll pipe down
Inmoscowwemadeit3 Said
worst signing in history? your a moron.
If anything, Berbatov is a class act and he will prove pivotal in getting the 4th league title in a row.
I have been on this blog for a while now but seeing Berbatov get junk when only 3 games have passed, seriously…trust in Sir Alex and he will deliver.
Both Berba and Owen bag a goal!!! Wasn’t a fan of Owen before but now I’ve started to like him.
arsewholes are like opinions everyone has one . just because he scored against wigan don’t make him a world beater but if he continues to score i’ll happily admit i was wrong. as for elblanco i might be a moron but at least i’m not a maricon ;0)
lol im not maricon but you obviously have a problem with it…so your a moron as well as homophob…take a bow
To suggest berbatov is OUR worst signing in history I’m sorry but you haven’t a clue about football.
may be i don’t have a clue about football mate, maybe i’m just a gobshite like you spouting off on a united blog. I still feel that amount we paid for him and what we’ve seen from him isn’t good enough. Ralph Milne, William Prunier, Massimo Taibi, Mark Bosnich, Neil Webb these were all shite signings as well but we didn’t pay such big sums for them (well except Webb which might of been a british transfer record back in 1989) the expectation was lower so thats part of my thinking behind what i said. When we saw Dimitar at spurs he seemed more clinical and alot stronger. He came with a repuation and was billed as the new king and but can you name a game last year where he bossed the opposition? I wouldn’t mind the lad as back up but as someone to rest our hopes on don’t hold ya breath.
You have a point that he doesn’t seem to have that killer goal instinct as he did for spuds but his contribution to the team assist-wise is vital to the current team in my opinion our hopes rest on The Roon and unfairly so but I don’t believe Berbs wanted to be the mainman, he is with us now so we just have to support the team hope sir Alex was right, he is, most the time but in football its a funny old game, we lose some but we win more! I guess we are both just passionate about our team and so roll on week 4, we’ll see how things pan out.
Berbatov is class has a great touch, good in the air and makes it look easy.
Minus points he doesn;t work hard enough and he slows down the game too much at times, if you could mix his ability with tevez work rate.
What a player youd have then
agreed amigo
fergie even said himself that he didnt use berba last season as he should of done,i think the same goes for rooney,but we’re seeing a different side now ronnie has gone,so we’ll hopefully watch roo and berba partnership blossom this season! In fergie we trust!
I’m quite happy with Berba’s effort this season. He should have a few more assists if only Scholes and Fletcher had not squandered their chances.
