Fergie: Reckless Cole Should Have Gone For Shocking Tackle

With over ten minutes left to play this afternoon, Ashley Cole got away with just a yellow card for a vicious challenge on Javier Hernandez. Phil Dowd opted just to book the defender, although he certainly should have received a straight red. A penalty wasn’t given because the ball had already gone out of play by the time Cole’s studs reached Chicharito.

Sir Alex Ferguson has reflected on Cole’s behaviour today, almost certainly referring to the treatment Antonio Valencia got from the Chelsea man when we beat them last season.

“It was a shocking tackle,” Fergie said. “The referee booked him, so I don’t understand why he hasn’t given a penalty. Ashley Cole is very reckless at times. He is committed of course but being committed you can sometimes go over the edge a bit. That was an example of that.”

Is there a bounty on United players this season? Feels like it….

  2. dannysoya says:

and the stupid fool had the nerve to argue after being let off the hook along with that stupid cunt John faggot terry.

  3. Tonka Norris says:

If it was a yellow it should have been a red. Refs dont easily see the studs making contact. Cole stuck on his “you gotta be kidding me face” the one you want to kick off his skull, but it saved him any further action.

  4. FornicatingWithJohnTerrysWife says:

Him and CLLC are two of the worst scumbags in the EPL.

    Viva Hernandez

  5. MyCowIsTheBest says:

I heard one of the pundit said that Nani was returning from an offside position to collect the ball for our second goal, and the ref missed that. Is it true? I’ve been looking at the videos, but from the video did not show Nani was in an offside positon

  6. DeanO says:

The way the Chelsea fans abused Chico as he hobbled off made me sick the poor lad copped for a terrible challenge then they went at him like a pack of wolves they were disgusting and I’m still seething at them tossers !

  7. RJ says:

I wasn’t happy with this tackle, “Fuck off Cashley you cunt” might of been a bit extreme to shout in a pub!

  8. markg says:

penalty . no advantage, and cole should be sent off.

  9. mikekelly12 says:

    DeanO

I agree, but don’t expect anything else from the cunts! They turned up, sang the 2 songs in their repetoir for 10 minutes and fucked off with their tails between their legs. Chav scum!

  10. T4M says:

    Good day to be red!

  11. Ben says:

To be fair to the ref, he didn’t see it, and was in a difficult place to see it, he only booked him because of what the sidelines man saw

  12. Champions 19 says:

Cole should be sent off and poor littlepea i hope littlepea did’t break his leg hope 2 see him on the pitch 4 next weekend!!!!!!!!!! Rooney was great Rooney is the top player this year plus top goalscorer so far!!!!!

  13. B says:

Where in the quote does SAF say that Cole should have been sent off? I’m not questioning that it should have been a red card – scissors after the ball had already gone.

  14. Costas says:

Deinitely feels like there’s a bounty willie.

  15. markg says:

No protection from the refs at all, we should have won by 5 goals and won easy, pisses you off when refs don’t play fair.just because you go two goals clear the referees seem to think they should even everything out and not be fair and call it like it is .

  16. CedarsDevil says:

Cole should have been booked for an earlier challenge and therefore should have walked after hacking down Hernandez. Great game overall and Chelsea were better than us especially in the second half. Its quite easy to forget that we were without Vida & Rio, as good as we know Jones, Evans & Smalling are they still need game experience which for me makes this victory even sweeter…..

The miss by the tranny was hilarious, almost as funny as events at White Hart Lane

  17. Kings says:

    Fucking cunt.

  18. Costas says:

He usually gets roasted by Nani or Tony V at right wing. Imagine his horror when he saw both of them running towards him.

  19. timbo says:

This is yet another reason why football needs a proper judiciary and post match analysis. Cleverly got put out for a month by a nasty incident that should have seen the perpetrator red-carded and outed for at least a couple of weeks. Cole’s tackle was one of the worst offences I’ve seen in recent years, not merely studs up, but heel up, catching Hernandez high on the shin – yet he merely gets a yellow, then has the cheek to argue it. Of course, because the referee has already passed judgement the FA will claim they can’t do anything more about it, so as with Liuz last year, Chelsea get away with blue murder.

As for the game, the score didn’t really reflect the true nature of the game. It was easily United’s worst performance of the year, with hardly a player on the pitch doing much to merit praise, other than Nani, De Gea and perhaps Evans. Jones did some lovely work both in defence and in attack, but was also the guilty party for letting Torres through with ease for the goal that he scored. Evra did some nice work defensively but continually broke down attacks on the left, Smalling was fairly quiet other than for his offside goal, Young was fairly subdued by his recent standards. The midfield was woeful at times, with Anderson hit or miss and Fletcher hardly to be seen. Up front, Chicharito was a passenger – when not getting offside yet again – while Rooney sprayed the ball everywhere, over-kicked it time and time again (costing Berbatov a hot chance on goal) and gave a nod to Terry with the slip on his arse while taking a penalty. There was none of the creativity or purpose of earlier games, none of the supreme confidence, and the defense in particular looked very creaky and uncertain, backpassing nervously and constantly to the keeper and needlessly putting him under pressure to kick up the field or over the sidelines.

By all means let’s take the win, but people shouldn’t get too carried away with the result, because other than the incident on Hernandez and the penalty miss, all the breaks fell United’s way today. Chelsea squandered two gilt-edged chances, had a few other near misses, and could have walked away with a draw or a 4-3 result in their favour on another day. United on the other hand could only really point to one of their goals as being a truly worthy piece of work, Nani’s brilliant effort. Smalling caught a break having an offside effort allowed, while the third goal was sheer arse as a ball ricocheted off Nani’s shin fortuitously into Rooney’s path, giving him an easy shot on goal. If I was Fergie, I wouldn’t be celebrating in the dressing rooms after the game, I’d be reading a number of players the riot act for the level of their play.

  20. Pete borota says:

For the love of god, I don’t mind fans posting but get a grip. cole should have gone. But don’t post bollox. We got the benefit of two offside decisions and chelsea could have been 2-1 up even before Nani’s goal. Torres could and should have had a hat trick as should Rooney.

But to talk about being on the end of bad refereeing decisions is the domain of the one eyed fanatic. Good win, but 4-4-2 against better teams will cause a lot of problems.

  21. Denise Williams says:

The tackle was a disgrace. Can anyone enlighten me why is it always Chelsea why do they seem allowed to get away with anything? Also what was the opinion on the Torres howler that has to be the worst miss I have ever seen. That was worse than the Ronny Rozenthal miss a few years back. As for the events at White Hart Lane well I suppose Dalglish will blame the ref as usual. Also what was Carragher playing after the second red telling the player not to go off. Personally I would have booked him for that. Liverpool were so indisciplined it was untrue. Really they were as bad as Holland in the World Cup. I actually felt sorry for the referee having to put up with it. There should be action taken against them by the FA but I will not be holding my breath.

  22. Mahesh says:

I think another look at De Gea’s save vs. Ramires is worth it. They that was a pathetic attempt by Ramires, BUT, watch how De Gea doesn’t assume he has no chance once Torres passes the ball. He throws himself just to make sure that any mishit by Ramires and he’s got a shot at saving it. That is the kind of maturity we should be particularly happy about…Many keepers would have just given up once the ball went past them.

  23. mikekelly12 says:

Thought Valencia did well at left back again. Wasn’t on long but didn’t put a foot wrong.

  24. Whiteside says:

Not the best performance today but it was just a mad game, the sort of game you just thank fuck we got the points and move on! The Nani goal will look sweet on the 11-12 season video if (and when) we bring the title home yet again!

  25. markg says:

I hope jamie carragher plays for another ten years, slow cunt. Whatever manager can’t see it is stupid, I thought Daglish had more sence.

  26. mikekelly12 says:

    Liverpool are shit! Just saying!

  27. WillieRedNut says:

Good save as it was, I think Ramirez should give DDG no chance with that shot. Same with Berbatov’s effort near the end. He scuffed the shot. Didn’t need it anyway. ;)

  28. markg says:

mike kelly 12 valencia played at right back

  29. Costas says:

Well Fergie defended both Ramires and Berba saying the passes were bad. And he was right. :)

I guess the Berbagasm has to wait until we beat the hicks next Saturday. ;)

  30. mikekelly12 says:

    markg

Gettin my lefts n rights mixed up. Yep, sorry, thought he did well ar right back when he came on.

  31. CedarsDevil says:

    Mikekelly

If you were looking from Cole’s eyes than Valencia would be on the left…In a way you were correct! :-)

  32. mikekelly12 says:

    Cedars

How you doing pal. You make a good point.

  33. markg says:

Valecia makes a brilliant RB at home especially against teams in bottom half of league (ie)arsenal when we have more possesion

  34. WillieRedNut says:

Bosingwa was lucky to stay on the pitch. He fouled Nani for the penalty, which going by the rules, is a goalscoring opportunity.

  35. CedarsDevil says:

    Mikekelly

Doing great my friend, really happy with the result and three points…. Missed out on the post match interview with queen Kenny, would love to have heard what he had to say after that comedy show today

  36. CedarsDevil says:

Willie – He was not the last man though was he?

  37. markg says:

Highlight of the week hopefullly POGBA starts against leeds,I can’t wait. Fastrack to the first team

  38. Costas says:

    Found this stat on twitter:

“Every visiting team to Old Trafford this season has had at least 20 shots. only 2 teams managed this in the previous 5 seasons. ”

I suspect that part of that has to do with our open style of play and another part has to do with the myth that DDG isn’t good at long range efforts.

  39. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – There was other players there, but Nani was getting a clear shot on goal. Also, will Nani claim an assist for Rooney’s goal? ;) I would! :)

  40. Zelh says:

Costas – Don’t forget that we played every homegame with Jones, Smalling and Evans.

  41. Costas says:

    @Zelh

That’s true, but I’d also blame it on the lack of marking from our midfield in that area.

  42. Mikekelly12 says:

    Willie

I’ve got nani in my dream tram so I’ll take the assist!

  43. markg says:

let them shoot away. SAF was righ,. agenda against DeGea he wasn’t dropped during week other players have to play . When smalling dropped was their uproar from the english press about their international right back being dropped.

  44. CedarsDevil says:

Just watching highlights of the Sunderland game, first three players out of the tunnel were O’Shea, Brown & Richardson!

  45. Zelh says:

Costas – that also, but that’s a problem for years now. I think it will be adressed in the next summer with Yan M’Vila.

  46. WillieRedNut says:

This game today, was reminiscent of the Arsenal game in 2008. Nasri scored twice and Rafael hit a great left foot volley, if I remember rightly? We got the right result this time, though!

  47. orez says:

@Costas we played good teams (Arse, Spurs and Chelski) in open matches. The fact of the matter that even with so many shots I haven’t felt threatened in any of the games bar Chelski. I wouldn’t worry about that statistic too much.

  48. WillieRedNut says:

Mikekelly12 – Good one lol. If I was Luis Nani, I’d be claiming it!

  49. pipiripau says:

Shame on you cole, big bastard. You should be taken to jail, you don’t know how to play, for real You are by far a shame to your team. What do you play?
Bastard, hope you get what is coming to you!!!!!
And hope you get is soon!!!!

  50. Bred Red says:

  52. Zelh says:

Carlos just shows what he is. A bum :)

  53. Red Rupert says:

the high shot count you can put down to them hoping DDG is gonna have a big flap and let evry shot in – hasn’t really worked has it?

  54. slouchie1472 says:

“ashley is one of the nicest down to earth people you can meet”

slight misjugement if you ask me i think hes one of the most dispicible people ever to appear on a football pitch nothin but a whingin self righteous little twat!

Off topic I reckon dogleash dodges questions better than the sweeney dodge bullets – cunt!!!

  55. Kei says:

In regards to Cole’s tackle. If the ref gave a yellow card, why not a penalty kick?

  56. Red Rupert says:

btw, that was the same ref that stood and watched carragher try to snap Nani’s leg in half – he thought that was only worth a yellow as well

  57. MG says:

Well I think someone at Manchester United ticketing services has it in for me

North West Quadrant row 35 and very appropriately vertigo territory for me – yet again – oh dear.

And as my brother said “Some of the things we do for our team require the hearts of courage”

So true were his words that United today yet again didn’t disappoint with me living in spin land for most of the game – only sheer adrenaline saw me through the match – and of course their is no one better than United to do that to you.

Their are many things to say but I’ll say this.

If United carry on on this trajectory that they are hell bent on then no one will touch them

This is not arrogance or boast but a true reflection of what is in front of us.

Rooney had a good day if he had an excellent day we would have thrashed the Chavs.

Torres was hit and miss – but I don’t care

Cole was a disgrace and should have been sent off – but as always Chelsea will get away with it because it’s the rules

The FA only break the rules for Manchester United so the wise know that the wind of change isn’t exactly blowing through the corrupt corridors of the Fuck All association.

Man of the match was Jones – yet again he is demonstrating something quite amazing within this United team – a belief that no matter who you are you will not pass me – please can we have Barcelona again – I reckon we’re ready.

But they all did well – only if our first touch and pass was sharper – Chelsea would have been thrashed – and luckily for them they just got soundly beaten.

Haven’t seen the challenge yet but gonna watch it on motd. Horrible nasty wife cheating scumbag

I will never understand why Anelka rarely starts. As soon as he came on he caused havoc. Hate the bastard but on his day a top player.

  66. RedKonvict says:

Horrible horrible tackle from cole. I thot he would be sent off and we would atleast have a penalty.
All well at the end though, happy with the 3 pts.
But worried about rooney, he might of done some damage to his confidence. Hope he score a hat-trick against stoke.
Berba will get a chance now that chicharito is injured.
Again hope that its not a serious injury.Horrible horrible tackle from cole. I thot he would be sent off and we would atleast have a penalty.

  68. Samuel - united WE stand says:

That’s gotta be one of the worst tackles i’ve ever seen, truly horrendous and could have caused a lot more damage like a leg break or something, can’t believe he never saw straight red.

And i hope hernandez will be okay, hopefully its not bad.

  69. Damu says:

Facts First 100 Premier League games for Cristiano Ronaldo: 19 goals, 12 assists. Nani: 19 goals, 33 assists.

  70. slim says:

What a game. Nani is bringing it to the table, staking a claim in the side. Go on son.

    King Eric
Caught one of your post a couple of threads back. i’m surprised you think the groans were from spoilt cunts, considering a couple of players failed their arms berba style. The pass wasn’t wrong, in fact you may hear a some coaches preaching that. But that wasn’t what the team needed and it most was most definitely what 75k people at OT wanted to see. i made a point about the senior mids to improve few days back ,specifically about Fletch and it. The lack of it was the shown today in patches. No way they would have won however its something worth looking at. It didn’t help matters that Ando couldn’t arsed at times. Drove me mental

  71. Bishopville Red says:

Of course, because stunned cunt Dowd gave him a yellow, the FA are content that it’s been dealt with and he gets away with a near-legbreaker of a cheapshot tackle. Brutal.

    SB

  72. King Eric says:

Slim. I didn’t say the spoilt cunts inside OT. I meant all the ones that constantly slate him despite him having an important role in the side. There weren’t many options or movement on at the time to be fair.

Fletcg had a decent enough game imo considering his huge lay off and put in a good shift. Couple more games he will be back to fitness. As you imply I thought anderson had a pretty poor game and that’s the difference carrick and berba brought to the team. They kept the ball and didn’t give it away cheaply.

Anyway young side especially back five, pat aside and I am more than pleased with the three points.

  73. Tonka Norris says:

    @damu

Fascinating stat. Really appreciate you sharing it. Thanks.

  74. united.george says:

De Gea was very impressive, I dont think he did anything wrong today and his saves were excellent. To think of all the debates that occurred over the summer around who would replace VDS and how we are going to be exposed in goal. Not only do we have a good replacement in DDG but also Lindegaard as a backup is even more amazing!!

Liverpool losing started what would become a great day. They were completely dominated by Spurs, then game the Fulham game where they came back from 0-2 down to tie the game.

Good luck Javier, I hope it is nothing serious and we can see you again against Liverpool in a month!!

  75. Bishopville Red says:

On a slightly different note, was it just me or did it seem that John Terry took every opportunity possible to try to crock our Phil Jones? First goal, it’s an elbow in his ear. third goal, it’s studs almost through his leg. THere’s playing to protect your England position, and then there’s playing to protect your England position. Greasy cunt.

    SB

  76. Ben says:

I love this myth of DDG not coping with long range efforts, the teams just shoot very usually miss wildly… Btw I’m pro De Gea, he’s a great keeper and showed some good stuff today, only part that concerned me if I’m being picky was the corner after his fantastic save from Ramires.

What you’d have to realise about the Ronaldo vs Nani stat is that ronny’s 1st 100 games woulda probably been when he was 21/22? Nani’s now, what? 24 I’m very wary of him still, he really does frustrate me at times

  77. dannysoya says:

Good game for the neutral but we seriously have to improve some areas. Like fergie said we kept giving the ball away in attacking areas very VERY unlike us. gotta work on that ASAP. cuz on form incisive strikers will take full advantage of stray passes. other than that we did alright but not great.

  78. Samuel - united WE stand says:

Bishop – not trying to be nitpicking but you pretty much repeated yourself there lol

  79. Samuel - united WE stand says:

Anderson again has reverted back to the inconsistency that has blighted his career at united so far, he gave away some sloppy passes at times that a more confident striker would have buried, i hope sir alex keeps faith in him for the next few games

  80. basanta says:

    Ashley is chel-SHIT.

  81. Bishopville Red says:

    @Samuel – united WE stand:

It wouldn’t be the first time. Or the first time…. D’Oh!

OK, how about, “there’s playing to earn an England spot, and there’s playing to remove rivals from an England spot.” Greaseball is in the latter category.

    SB

  82. Bishopville Red says:

Here’s what I know: It was far from our best performance of the season and we still stuffed the rent boys. We missed more “good” chances than we actually had vs. Arsenal. Had we taken the chances we should have, we would have pinned another 6-7 on London. Had we actually slipped into third gear? Deary me, it would have been a test of the scoreboard’s lights.

Not worried about Ando. Encouraged by Fletcher, but figure he would have been off if not for the need to sub Smalling. Thought De Gea was excellent. Announcers wanted to hang the Chelsea goal on Jones, but I thought Evans could have done more to help out. That’s exactly the type of play Rio would have properly read and reacted to, leaving Torres no hope but to flop and beg for a peno.
    Nani? Two words: pure class.

Some loose passing and loose marking, but Fergie will find a way to, shall we say, “refocus” the lads post haste.

    SB

  83. torontored says:

Just back from the TGH Cardiac Ward – have been advised to lay off bacon sarnies & go for a walk when United play

Terry = twat = fuck why can we not play agaisnt him every week
Cole = twat = terrible tackle = karate kick with studs under the shin guard – looking to maim – FA complaint – not a fucking chance
Torres = poor pick by his manager = thank fuck

As for us we played way to square in the middle -with no funneling back by the wide men – they took advantage by playing almost a 4 man box coming through the middle – consequence we looked poor in the middle – Fletcher & Ando were overrun – as a result Smalling & Evans took a baptism of fire – Fletcher showed how much he has lost by being away from the game for several months – communication in general was not great – but today will make them better players _ make sure SAF will use this game to now knock the egos off the team – all their chances came right down the centre – all our stuff came mainly from the wide positions. We only looked good defensively when the wide players saw the play develop and moved inside or when Rooney dropped deep. On the attack it invariably came from wide. Even though we won sometimes I reckon SAF plans impose a piss poor strategy just to make sure the squad does not too cocky

now fact is we won – I think we deserved to win – ( but we could have lost ) – but reckon SAF does this sort of “make your tactics as the play develops type of shit ” just to see how players respond – he will use the poor elements of today to emphasize how far we really do have to go – and we will go – we will continue to improve – SAF will see to it.

Can imagine training Tuesday – Thursday will be “interesting”

  84. sandeep1878 says:

    Good morning fellow reds..

that was a bloody horrendous tackle,

the cry baby cunt cole was arguing with ref for that, deep down the bastard knows he is lucky to be on the ground..

One rival down, another on tomorrow night

    UNITED

  85. Marq says:

Those who watched the game will know this picture did not show the true picture. Cole went in studs up into the side of the shin of Hernandez, and could easily have broken his leg had he not jumped. Disgraceful

  86. Costas says:

It’s something that most of us watching on the telly missed the first time around. When I saw Javier jump, I thought he avoided the contact. But you look at the injury and Cole could have very easily broken his ankle and his shin. I don’t know how much malice there was, but he certainly was very reckless. No need for that at 3-1 down.

  87. Dragonslayer says:

Well, surely we are angry at players for making reckless tackle like that. But if you recall our battle with the “Invincible” Arsenal, Arsenal fans were quite mad with our players getting very rough and aggressive. The same should be expected since the other teams would do anything to bring us down. Since we are now the most dangerous team they meet who might finish them off before the half time, they would do anything to stop us. Considering the reckless tackles which cost us Cleverly and now this one, we could only say that unless there is a much better way as to help guide the referee into giving out what kind of punishment for this kind of tackles, we will be getting more as our dominance continues added with our opponents desperation continues. And the tackling players getting away with such ease.

  88. RedViking says:

@timbo- a little late for praise but good sense from you mate, wish i had that discerning eye and abilitity to analyse. games are always in the morning for me, maybe that’s what’s behind it. rashy mole and “fat bastard” dowd did their own little dastardly villain cameo piece afterwards, “I’ll get you an international game” kind of implication is what I sensed when Mr Tweedy was answering back. Only good that came from it was Berba’s 15 minutes, he was warming up anyway but the injury gave his arrival more impetus and, he looked useful, linked up well which is something we were going to miss with anderson subbed for carrick to shore things up. Had he had 180 minutes of football he may have got his toe to that first chance he had within a couple of minutes. Rooneys pass was heavy/tired footed and good luck to anyone doing anything but get it on target.. Better refereeing than the Armenian FA offered against Benfica, but not much, I hope that Chico limping down the tunnel instead of taking the stretcher is down to not having a serious injury as opposed to bravado, good luck lad……….Oh and PS- VIVA FERNANDO!

  89. sandeep1878 says:

    Hello Costas,

indeed it was reckless with 3-1 scoreline, but the fact remains same, Cole has been pretty rough player and on top of that he always cribs on ref as if he never fouled the player

  90. RedViking says:

    excuse me, Slovenian not Armenian

  91. Costas says:

    @Sandeep

Morning mate. I don’t know how rough a player he is in general. Before yesterday he didn’t strike me as one. But, he certainly has had a rough time everytime he’s come up against Valencia and Nani..

  92. nksimp says:

horrendous tackle. hope hernandez is ok.

Where are all the de- Gea-anti-media this morning? Fuck me, the swedish commentators didn´t dare to praise him once, instead they blamed ramires for two poor shots (the volley and the open goal).

  95. Balaji Sivaraman says:

One thing that has struck me over the past month of watching us play is this: Are United the most complete footballing team on the planet right now? Do we have an answer to anything the opponents can throw at us?

The reason I am saying this is that I’ve watched us overcome a number of different playstyles with equal efficiency and ruthlessness. Bolton tried to kick us off the park last week and we absolutely had none of it and played them off the park with superior football. Chelsea tried to do a bit of both – kicking and playing – in equal measure and had their best game of the season, but that was still not enough. We’ve already demonstrated that we play the best football in the Premier League in the opening few games of the season; and there is little doubt that in terms of pure footballing ability only one team is ahead of us right now.

So are my questions valid and is this Sir Alex Ferguson’s greatest squad ever?

Another thing that I love about us this season is the open style we’re playing. Sure some people are going to be hard to satisfy, but I am not concerned in the least about how open our defense has been. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if we conceded 5 goals but scored 15 in the process. I would rather have scorelines like 9-3 rather than 2-0 when I watch United play. Our attitude has always been to be free-flowing and outscore the opposition, rather than concede fewer goals. We are seeing a return to those roots again after a few seasons where we were dependent of the solidity of our defense rather than the fluidity of our attack.

Of course, even then, Rio and Vida return to provide a bit of organization to our defense and our young players mature at the same rate, the number of silly goals ought to come down as well. That is another frightening aspect to be noted about this United side.

All in all, as MG said, if we can continue in the same vein, then screw the rest of the league, this title is ours.

  96. BjOlav says:

To be honest – all in all I think we were a bit lucky with the refereeing; two goals allowed that probably were offside, a soft penalty that we surely would have slated Dowd for if it had gone against us. But – considering recent matches against Chelsea, it was good to see that scales fell on our side this time.

The Cole tackle was awful. Problem is, I don’t think Dowd saw it. If the linesman hadn’t called him over, he probably wouldn’t have given anything. These things happen. But Cole should be punished, he can’t be allowed to go on with this thuggery. Ugly tackle when the ball is out of play – surely it can be punished by giving him a ban?

I think Berbatov should have been on earlier, he added composure and nobody keeps the ball like him. Chicharito didn’t really add much to the team. All in all – a tight game against what is most likely the hardest rival for the title. Not a great performance, but not really bad either – with a little (more) luck it could’ve been 5-1 (penalty and Berbas chance).

That challenge could have been a fucking career-ender. Red would have been a fucking minimum, should have a 3 game ban, particularly since ball was out play.

    Hi RMW

Just figured out how to use your link with all those ‘dots’ lol

In my opinion NO its not an insult to refer to United as Man U, UNLESS you do so with reference to Munich etc. Fans from all over the world refer to United as Man U and do so very innocently. Most United supporters in the UK do so as well because they have to link to its negative history… Same goes with TV pundits. I do not like it personally however I do not overreact when I hear it mentioned simply because I say to my self well in that case why not say Man C, or Newcastle U or Bolton W etc!

As I said, unless its being used out of ill intentions then its a nothing thing really.

Any news or rumours on Chicharitos injury yet?

Always so frustrating to wait for it. Cannot see him playing again for a while and I am even fearing he is out for the season which would leave us with a very poor striking force.

  115. Moses says:

It has been a rumour or myth if you lika abroad that Man U would be some kind of insult. This is so wrong and a loved child has many names as we know.
Some feel Man U is close to Manure which our enemies call us but Man U is short and cool.

  116. smartalex says:

The term referred to at 11:28 is hurtful. There are many United fans that feel the painful reminder brought on by the reference. Intentional or not, it should be avoided.

Of far more significance to this debate is the large group of protestors that use the accidental expression of the hurtful remark to further their own selfish agenda. They appear indignant, shouting out their pretended grievance at the term. They aggressively attack the accidental offender. Yet truth be told, those that complain ARE aware of the horrendous connotations of the term, and repeatedly shout it out, showing scant regard for the pain caused by each expression. They are the real offenders.

If you do not like swearing, why shout loudly: “Don’t fucking swear, you cunt! Fucking swearing upsets my fucking granny! You’re not a cunting fan, because you fucking swear! Learn about our history you cunt, we fucking don’t like fucking swearing!”

If the term upsets you, do not repeat it.

  117. Mauritius Blog List says:

Chicharito out for 2 weeks now! The other teams seem to have put a hit on United players. Can we play a match without having our players being hacked on the field?

  118. CedarsDevil says:

You seem like someone who is constantly suffering from extreme negativity… You only predict defeats on match days and now you fear a player is out for the season and all will be doom and gloom!

    Lighten up fella

  119. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

I fully understand where you’re coming from. However there are millions of United fans around the world who have absolutely no idea about the harmful nature of the term, so whenever they use it I have no problems with it.

  120. Gerriered says:

And the FA ,as usual, have not seen anything wrong with it therefore will not take any further action. I would like to use a real big word but my religion discourages that. Lucky them

  121. smartalex says:

    CedarsDevil

    Absolutely correct!

I also don’t have a problem with people using the expression unknowingly. If they upset anyone, it is easy to guide them, for they surely would want to know about any accidental hurt they might have caused. It certainly does not compare with knowingly referencing the tragedy in Munich in an irreverent, mocking or derisory fashion.

What does upset me is those who claim hurt, and school the ‘offender’ in a knowing fashion, yet repeatedly utter the hurtful term in their lesson. They are liars who are only trying to appear as caring United supporters, and actually don’t give a damn for any hurt caused. If they did care, they would not repeat the upsetting remark.

  122. denton davey says:

BjOlav @ 8:32: “Chicharito didn’t really add much to the team.”

This is a misperception – if Chicharito ONLY scored goals and didn’t do that in the match then your point would be convincing.

BUT what Chicharito offers is a verticality that stretches the opposition which is why there was so much room for AshleyYoung, Nani and TheWayneBoy between the RentBoyz’ midfield and defensive lines.

It’s a team game – different guys make different contributions in different ways. For an insightful analysis of how Anderson’s game is reliant on his partner see:

  123. smartalex says:

    Gerriered

You are a faithful man. I’m sure that your religion promotes truth, so ‘big’ words sometimes have a place. Of course, ‘small’ words are usually as effective, if not more so. Suffice to say that you got your point across efficiently. Well done!

  124. denton davey says:

Moses @ 12:23: “Cannot see him [Chicharito] playing again for a while and I am even fearing he is out for the season which would leave us with a very poor striking force.”

He’s probably out for a month – but don’t forget that after the Norwich match on October 1st there’s one of those idiotic international breaks for a fortnight so the reality is that he will miss the CarlingCup match against LeedsCum tomorrow, the Stoke match on Saturday, the CL match at OT against Basle [?] (next week, mid-week), and Norwich the following Saturday.

The injury to Chicharito highlights why – in my opinion – Dimmy wasn’t sold in response to that “offer” from PSG. The guy is fourth-choice – insurance – and right now the two players ahead of him (Chicharito and Danny Welbeck) are out with injuries.

I have written before about my “suspicion” that the wages-bill was under-spent when huge buxx weren’t shuffled into WeeWesley’s trouser-pocket AND that enabled SAF to keep his total wage-pool in line with what was allocated – for sure, the transfers of O’Shea and Brown as well as the retirements of the GingerNinja, Edwin, and RedNev helped provide the manager a cushion. Strikers are always liable to hamstring rips/tears/strains or else subjected to GBH so it’s very smart management to have guys in reserve – that’s why money has been spent on LittleMikey and Dimmy. Neither might be as good a partner for TheWayneBoy but neither is exactly chopped liver – and both are more “reliable” than either KikoTheKid or Mame Biram Diouf.

  125. Gerriered says:

    Smartalex

Thanks man. My faith sure does promote truth in thought ,words and action. And in this case, as SAF puts it, the tackle was really horrifying and imo more dangerous than the Song stamp on Joey.

Good comments at 13:23 and 13:35 that shed light on Sir Alex’ thinking on strikers. We have 7 top strikers, although some are not ready to carry the load regularly, and others are injured or aging. We need to be able to score in all 60-odd games, and our squad enables that.

  129. bengoshi says:

Not many minutes have passed since the Anderson substitution, Carrick passes the ball from Evans to DDG. Evans then talks to Carrick in a very angry fashion. That’s what not so good about Carrick – he doesn’t add to the tempo of the team.

  130. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 13:54: “We need to be able to score in all 60-odd games, and our squad enables that.”

Goals change games; goals also win matches. The point of the exercise is to score goals – no one really cares about how those goals were scored. Didn’t CR7 score one with his cock a few years ago ? What we now remember is that that goal was one of 42 and, more importantly, UTD won the game and won the leage.

  131. smartalex says:

    denton davey

Winners aren’t always the best players. Ronaldo is a brilliant sportsman, but more importantly he is absolutely driven to win. Ryan Giggs has it too. So does Paul Scholes, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane. They are all supremely talented, but that is only part of their story. No one remembers the great goals in games that are lost.

Two foot putts count the same as a two hundred yard hole-in-one. Winners win, others play.

It wasn’t a penalty because the tackle went in when the ball was out of play. It wasn’t a red card because the ref never saw it. Really dirty piece of play, because Cole saw the opportunity and took it, knowing it wouldn’t be a penalty and guessing, rightly, that he was unlikely to get a red for that sort of tackle in that part of the field. Typically you see that sort of challenge in midfield, because nobody would ever go in like that in the area.

Shame on Cole, and get well soon Chich. And that’s all there is to it as far as I am concerned.

We have to expect our players to get hit with challenges like that when we play the likes of Chelsea, Bolton and Arsenal (yes Arsenal, I’m looking at you Arshavin). The lads are tough though, and we need to accept that shitty clubs and shitty players will try to kick us around.

  138. King Eric says:

  140. StatesideAussie says:

Tell you what, though, having reviewed THAT TACKLE using freeze-frame on my DVR, it was a bloody close thing whether the ball was actually or not before Cole’s studs tried to snap the Little Pea’s leg. There is one frame where the ball is captured perfectly above the line, but it’s not clear whether Cole has actually made contract or not. The next frame, he clearly has made contact — and the ball is clearly out. Hard to see how the assistant ref could be so certain, really. No use crying over spilt milk, I suppose, but is anyone under any illusion about what would have happened if the tables had been turned, and a United player had made that challenge?

There’s also a replay from a different angle where (again in freeze-frame) Hernandez’s shin actually appears to buckle back under the force of the contact — of course, this is an illusion, since bones don’t bend that much. In reality, Hernandez is just placing his foot on the ground as Cole makes contact, and his leg is straightening. However, as Cole follows through, Hernandez’s foot becomes trapped under Cole’s leg and turned on its side — the angle of his ankle is really quite shocking. To have come away without a compound fracture, or even a simple break, no knee or ankle damage and not even any ligament damage — well, he (and we) are so fucking lucky.

  141. StatesideAussie says:
