Paul Scholes made an incredible return to the Manchester United team today after retiring last summer. Despite not playing football for eight months, Scholes was brought on for the last half an hour against City in the FA Cup 3rd round game today.
Incredibly, he made more passes than any City player did all game, with a 97% completion rate.
Sir Alex Ferguson has given his reaction to the return of the veteran midfielder.
“The last few weeks, Paul has been training very hard with the reserves and doing a lot of work in the gym,” said Ferguson. “He came to see me and said ‘I regret retiring’. There are no negatives for me. The players have been delighted. I am delighted. The fans are delighted. The last few weeks he has been stepping up his training and been taking part in our training sessions during the week. It is a terrific addition to our squad at a very important part of our season.”

Man Utd News 24/7

ginger prince………. god …..thought i would never get to type that out again….
welcome back Your Majesty
you were missed
After this weekend, Stewart Downing’s girlfriend will dress up as a full back to prevent her from being beaten.
Scholes Unit is back. Woooooo!!
Welcome back Paul Scholes!
Stewart Downings ex-girlfriend really didnt plan accordingly last night. If she just dressed up like a full back, Downing would of never beaten her.
It seemed to me that Paul had been instructed not to tackle. Wise move Sir Alex, a rusty Scholes earning red for a miss-timed tackle would not have been an ideal ‘debut’.
Tonybee
Ya you’re right he IS truly missed. I just can’t believe that scholsey will play with utd for an extra season and he will probably help our injury crisis as long as he stays clear of inuries
I think scholesy is a good addition, we need him with fletch and cleverly out. We can rotate giggs and scholes effectively, fergie is the master of that.
Smartalex….think SAF told him to get on and calm it all down…just took him while to take control
What cost 400 million and expired after 38 mins???
City’s name on the F A cup
Scholes back in for Man Utd, Henry back in for Arsenal?
Who’s next? John Terry back fucking Wayne Bridge’s missus?
Who are we fooling here? This is really sad and embarrassing that a retired player had to be brought out of retirement to solve our midfield problems. This is a slap on the face of current midfielders as well as a reflection of what the Glazers have done to this great club!
So why have some fans tried to blame it on the Glazers on the other thread when we all knew before that Scholes aproached SAF.
Welcome back Mr Scholes you are most Welcome.
TonyBee – Agreed, and 71 passes out of 73 in a half an hour seemed to do the trick!
James21 – you can’t ignore the fact that not investing in the squad left a void that Scholes can now fill.
It may be the cynic in me but Scholesy return captures the headlines and unsurpringly the fans imagination and the spotlight is off how very poor our midfield is in terms of quality, adaptability and depth. Though I love Scholes he is not the solution to the massive midfield problems we have so Fergie please concentrate on the priority and find some value in the transfer market!
ffs
Im extatic my favourite player is back but come on did NO ONE know he was training with the squad. All these photos on here by Scott the Red of training and inside info and no one knew the Ginger Prince was our new signing.
Chuffed to bolox – way better than Sneijder.
Moscow Delight – ‘Embarrassing’ is not the right word mate. That describes how YOU appear, which is hardly relevant. I think you mean to say that “Scholes is not good enough for United”
I disagree. He is an excellent addition, and SAF knows what he’s getting, and Paul is proven in the Premiership. He is a far better short-term bet than any other midfielder outside Britain. Note: I didn’t ‘better player’ I said ‘better bet’. We will get what we expect from him almost immediately. It took a few minutes, but 71/73 passes against the League leaders is better than Sneijder would have managed in his first game had he arrived rather.
Paul Scholes is my second all time favourite United player!! Welcome back Ginger Prince.
Moscow
I can ignore it. SAF spent 50 odd million on Jones, DDG and Young. He also bought Smalling and Lindegarde. But no midfielder because he felt the position was covered with Cleverly, Carrick and Anderson. We have been shagged by injuries which have been unfortunate. I don’t blame the glazers for everything like MUST would like me too I try and keep an open mind. Scholes aproached SAF not the other way round.
New kit with ’22 Scholes’ already ordered.
Will always love him.
agree with the Goat….much better than Sniejder….. and he cost fuck all
Red Keihley – The thing is this isn’t Football Manager. Why should any club in a good position in the league sell their best player? Tell me why should they?
We won’t find a top player in january and now we have a short term solution till summer.
Best thing that could have happened.
Nothing else would have worked for that short amount of time.
A midfielder is good news in this moment, and more if this is Scholes.
James21- A bad day for Ronney, what should we do with this guy?
IMY Cedros
what about bringing Becks back n’all…. just imagine the master-class the young ones could get…
ginger prince and his passing…
Becks back and pin point cross tution
getting a bit of a touch on thinking of that…….
TonyBee
It was like he was never away, thats class. Ok he was with Paddy Evra when the cross went in for thier goal but the running off the ball and making room and giving an easy option for the man with the ball. I just wish Ando would stop walking about the bloody teletubbie and watch Scholes and learn.
Good that we have an extra man, and a legendary one in that when our midfield looks so short of options. But I feel his stats are a slight bit over rated. Maybe it was just my broken stream but he seemed to make mostly very simple close-proximity passes towards the end of the game when we needed to hold possession. Also cost us Aguero’s goal, and what could’ve been a revenge for the 6-1, but ofcourse I can’t just hold him accountable for that certainly. We should’ve taken City by the scruff of their neck when they were a man down, and credit to them they played very patiently and didn’t break formation like we did at Trafford.
You are a a clown Moscow. Players like Scholes cannot be bought, much like the Mona Lisa. Did you even see the game? Yeah he made one bad pass, (it led to a goal
). But after that CIty were just chasing shadows of the Ginger Prince. Wouldn’t have wanted ANY other player on the pitch against CIty.
TonyBee
If Fergie wants to really piss off Keane then bringing back Beckham for a few games will do it, lol
Just be happy it wasn’t Ashley Grimes asked to come out of retirement!
yeah Goat …hopefully Ando will get his act together look’s like a lazy fuck most games….. and Carricks game improved when the ginger one came on
Not to rub my own crystal balls but I did say we needed a “miracle appearance” today and we got one!
To be fair to Scholes I thought he had another season in him if used sparingly. The retirement always looked premature to me, especially with Giggsy playing on another season.Absolutely delighted to see him back for the rest of the season. Even more happy with the media blackout on the story, only a really strong Club could do that in this day and age. I’ll look forward to reading about what happened in a book one day. Great to have Paul back tho, sods law being dispossessed near our corner flag but his contribution was top class. He’s still got it alright.
Soren
Yeh very bad day. Think we should sell him.
Have you noticed he’s been on his best behaviour for the last 2 days. I think I was right about him.
Give scholesy his old number back! Let young have 22
fuck me Goat getting a semi on now….thinking of Keano back as well….
Willie
Now You’re Talking.
I think we should put in a bid for Hargreaves. lol
Off topic but an interesting statement from the dippers.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2083932/Liverpool-apologise-Tom-Adeyemi-race-row.html
A pity they couldn’t have responded similarly to us. I’m pretty sure Evra’s still waiting for an apology!!
Is there anyone in the know on how this was kept quite. When Arsenal signed Henry they said it was down IN TIME for him to play in the FA cup (I assumed it was to be REGISTERED for the competition). 1 Do you need to be registered seperately from playing in the league or the mickey mouse cup and 2 Was Scholes registered all along and how come no one broke that info. OR is a coach automatically registered.
Djemba djemba is cleaning off his boots……
M19ke
I tried to comment but it won’t let you.

Zelh, I am not saying that we have to buy in January but if we dont buy a world class midfielder in the summer then we are fucked and all of the rumours that the Glazers are just siphoning off the money for themselves will be true. Dont forget that over the last 5 years our net transfer spend has been less than Sunderland and Villa! Perhaps our scouting system needs to be reviewed as Newcastle seem to have tapped into a talent stream that we were not aware of. My other concern (and I stress Scholesy has been one of the best players ever to grace the UTD shirt) is what message does it send out to Pogba (and Morrison as well!) that as seemingly one of the best midfield prospects in Europe he cannot get on the bench today ahead of a 37 year old who last played competitive football 8 months ago!
12 minute highlights + interviews:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xnj20d_manchester-city-2-3-manchester-united_sport
Great to see the great one back playing again and strutting his stuff. Looking forward to his trademark laser guided precision long passes over the remainder of the season.
On the Sniejder front, I noticed that he wasn’t in the Inter squad on sat, not sure if this was due to injury or if he’s in talks with us?? Knowing our luck the Berties have probably got him onside but if we manage to snare him, along with Scholsey coming back and injuries clearing up no20 will be in the bag!
Delighted to see him playing again. However, this doesn’t solve anything imo. About time we stopped hanging our hopes for a solid midfield on some players’ fitness issues and establidhed a regular duo. We’ve turned the position into a lottery ffs.
Did Hargreaves touch the ball, at all?
Pulling up his socks like a French hooker! Don’t forget Owen? You might be wearing a blue shirt now, but your blood runs Red fella!
Red Keighley
if we DO buy a world class midfielder in the summer then would you say that all of the rumours that the Glazers are just siphoning off the money for themselves are FALSE?
Or is it simply another rod to beat their backs?
Re: Ando, he’s not 100% quite yet is he? The manager said playing him 4 days a go was a risk so I doubt he’ll be handed 90 mins any time soon. We should see Scholes ahead of him for the next few games till Cleverley’s back, and thats when we’ll see a return to our early midfield form at the start of the season. Thats when we played our best football after all, when those two combined brilliantly (in my opinion anyway).
SmartAlex, No it wouldnt demonstrate that but what it would show is that even the gimps recognise that we cannot compete successfully at a Europen level with the current midfield so they might actually be speculating to accumulate even more of our fucking money!
Smartalex and all – nobody is saying that Scholes isn’t good enough for United or we’re not happy to see him back. The fact remains that United can’t afford an expensive recruit. I laughed when Arsenal fans celebrated Henry’s loan… We’re the same!
Red Keighley – If the Glazers are denying SAF funds, then you are right. I just can’t find corroboration to that theory, even if it sounds right to many. I wonder how different it would be if Sir Alex had unlimited cash. Would he spend more? Should he? I think it would be ‘no’ on both counts, but hey, what do I know? Almost nothing!
James Yes, we should sell him. ha ha
Tevez is an option to replace.
Antonio Valencia>>>>>>>>>any winger
Anyone seen King Eric around today?
Smartalex , you either work for the glazers or are just sadly misinformed to be talking like they haven’t cost us hundreds of millions of pounds, that is fact not rumour. Very sad some people still stick their heads in the sand.
Moscow Delight – Henry is lined up to play in the midfield, in a similar role to Giggs for us.
Perhaps he will be an inspired recruitment for arsenal, and perhaps Paul will be for us.
Perhaps we can’t afford an expensive recruit, perhaps we can. Should we now get one in midfield? I think not. We’re good to go, with returnees soon expected.
smartalex – thanks for the links man! appreciate it.
What did i say last night about this season is similar to the season Eric signed , some one who will change the dressing room by just being there.I never thought it would be Scholes but it was and he did. What a great win we fucked there home record and put a dint there alter ego bunch of arrogant cunts. Bring on our biggest rivals Liverpool.By the way the beer as not tasted that good for weeks.
Red Keighley – And what does net spend has to do with ambition? Don’t forget that we spent 50m this summer on 2 big talents.
And we got Smalling, Hernandez on the cheap. You can’t get all the talents. It’s just like that.
I have absolutely NO concerns about money problems cause NOBODY can verify that with any stats.
And don’t forget we sold Ronaldo for 80m!
@Costas
think james posted that another thread:
FAO. Smartalex and Willie King eric says He’ll be back in a day or so Ruth is in hospital on Antibiotics until tomorrow, baby is fine but Ruth has picked up an infection He said let you know
+on
I wonder why some of the fans are complaining? Think of Scholesy’s addition as a player on loan from another club. He is here to provide depth in the midfield area which we desperately need. Of course he is not the solution to our midfield woes but if at all we had to sign someone then I would much rather have Scholesy than anyone else. And yes, he looked rusty but what did you expect? He has been out of competitive footy for 6-8 months and he comes back and makes more passes than any City player. Class.
I agree – delighted to see Scholesy back but this does NOT solve the problem!
@TonyBee
I feel bad for Downing mate. He finally nailed his target and got arrested for it…
And the only stats I know and trust are the ones from Andersred and according to him we had 160m in the bank last summer. So spent 50m still round 100 left.
H.R.H. The Ginger Prince has returned!
Welcome back, Legend.
I adore Paul Scholes. Looked amazing for 10 minutes but then seemed to tire. Expected. But completed more passes in 20 minutes than any city player the whole game and 97% completion. Come on United. Come on Scholesy!
Question: At 37years, is Paul Scholes the oldest United signing. Or doesn’t it count for some idiotic reason.
How many will go out and get a Scholes 22 shirt? Thinking about it??
Just want to clear something up with some people on here by answering a yes or no question. Had we, Manchester United for those unsure, had a man sent off after 12mins and went 3-0 down. But in the second half managed to score a free kick and then pounced on a mistake from the returning Owen hargreaves and back-up keeper Pantyloon, to pull it back to 3-2 but went on to get knocked out of the FA Cup would you prefer that to creating a number of chances in the 1st half going 3-0 up but get sloppy in the second half conceding 2 but keeping the ball and qualifying for a tie with the dippers?? It appears from what I’ve read quit a few people will answer yes?!?!
FletchTHEMAN – I already ordered mine
Steve B
I don’t work for the Glazers, they’re absolutely not my type.
Am I talking like they haven’t cost us hundreds of millions of pounds? Where did I say that?
It is very sad some people still stick their heads in the sand. Do I seem such an ostrich to you? Perhaps if you educate me I can be a bird of similar feather; flocking together against a common foe. Less criticising those that do not know your truth; and more educating instead; would be beneficial to everybody.
Wild claims do not easily become widely accepted, unless you show their value.
@rat1p
Ah thanks mate. So many threads today, I missed this.
Get well soon Mrs King Eric!
Very happy the Ginger Ninja is back but can’t help thinking that Pogba and Morrison must be gutted.
I think someone else said this earlier but its well worth repeating.
Sad day for our Youth Teams promising talents when this happens, surely there must be something wrong if they cant get a sniff when we are in such a poor state in midfield.
Gandalf – Pleasure mate! Did you notice that there have been nearly 3 times as many views of the 1st half than of the 2nd? I wonder why …
Actually I found watching the 2nd half again good, because my fear of losing no longer disguised United’s quality. Make sense?
Why do all say that this is negative for the likes of Pogba and Morrison?
We signed him for NOTHING and so there’s no pressure to play him.
And don’t underestimate the learning factor they’ll gain in training.
Fergie can still bring Pogba instead of Scholes who’ll never get into the way of youth players. Never. I think before he’s blocking talents he’d stop playing for us.
that simple.
rat1p – Thanks for passing that on. I saw it on the other tread too, rather twice than never!
Get Well Queen Ruth!
I’m not being funny can we just not support out fucking team. We are a right set of spolit bastards. City have spent hundreds of millions and we are only 3 points adrift aftwr two awful games.
Is Scholes the answer no but what a stop gap whilst clev and fletch missing. We have pogba, morrison, woolton, tunnicliffe all progressing nicely so chill the fuck out.
We are the champions of england, the most successful team this country has ever seen and we just knocked them bitter cunts out of the cup.
It’s a great day to be a red so let’s enjoy it. I would to see boltons forum fuck me they would be suicidal if they react like we do and we won.
Paul looked a little understandably a little rusty when he came on but grew into the game, used experience to dominate possession. His passing completion rate does not Suprise me, that man is personifies technical skills. His addition could prove to be a master-stroke both on the pitch and in dressing room simply because he’s been there and done it.
Shame about the slack pass that resulted in a goal but i think he contributed well. I still don’t expect him to start most matches though, but seeing as we lack enough quality midfielders and fergie’s refusal to dip in an over-inflated january transfer market then it’s a good addition for the short term.
Great performance by the united players today, i was very worried about how we’d cope but united did well, albeit dropping off in the 2nd half and letting city back in it through silly slack mistakes, city didn’t really do anything brilliant to get back in a the blue bastards never stopped running.
I’ve criticised Rooney on this blog on more than one occasion but he really stepped up his game and earned his money today, fabulous crashing headed goal (courtesy of valencia precise cross), took his penalty poorly but was alert to divert another header in (also courtesy to the hair transplant surgeon). His overall performance, drive and determination were great to see, hopefully he’ll keep it up.
Welbeck was superb today. Someone came on here and said he wasn’t good enough and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions but what a load of crap. He’s gradually developing into a world class forward because he is technically gifted and has an all round game, i see a great partnership between him and wayne developing and what a brilliant goal today to add, he’s a true united fan at heart.
Zelh, You just dont get it! Net transfer spend is a key measure of a clubs ambition. Its even more worrying that our net transfer spend was around £50m when we got £80m for Ronaldo!
Actually it was £50m on 3 players not 2. I dont want us to be like Shitty spending money like it is going out of fashion but what I want is a clear demonstration in the transfer market that we are genuinely trying to compete at the highest level in Europe – thats ambition! Surely you would agree that the CL exit in what was seen as one of the easiest groups demonstrated that we need to invest in new players and give more opportunties to players like Pogba. Ticket prices have doubled since the gimps have taken over and they have siphoned off alot of that to pay the debt they loaded on the club.
Good question Mikekelly12
From the comments it is clear that some should prefer losing under those circumstances, lest they appear hypocritical. Or would they care?
Giggs12 Giggs12 will tear you apart again.
Can’t wait for Bolton mate.
Why are people feeling sorry for the likes of Pogba and Morrison? I’d be ecstatic that one of THE greatest midfielders in footballing history was going to be training with me and have the opportunity of playing alongside! Better to integrate these youngsters with a player of Scholes quality than that of a less established player such as Anderson.
samuel – and the best thin is, it’s not only a partnership for a year or two. This one could go on for years and years to come.
I
M19ke
You don’t have to explain to me mate. Although save the chatter for Saturday over a cold one.
Well said though.
Mikey – I get the sense some are gutted about us winning today. A selection of United fans really do take the apple crumble! Be happy!
Samuel – Danny was my motm. He was top class. What a finish!
I had tickets for his testimonial but I had to sell them because of family commitments, I thought I would never see him play again and I was gutted that I missed that game. I have another chance now to see him play again, hopefully I will before the end of the season
Welcome back Scholes, you’re are my favorite ever player, no lie. I wish he was 17 and not 37
I told my Grandad who is 85, Scholes has comeback from retirement.
He said
“Well no wonder who retires in their 20′s, I retired at 66.”
Hahahaha Nearly urinated all over my pants, I explained Scholes was 36
He Says
“Well At least Giggs got about 5-6 years in him”
Poor old man doesn’t follow football, never has but is one hilarious senile cool dude.
Red Keighley – So in your eyes a team is more ambitious if it’s net spend is higher than from any other team? Imo that’s plainly wrong. I know it were 3 players but I just wanted to point out that 2 of them were big talents that we got. And like I said before you can’t get all of them.
As talented as Pogba and Morrison are, Imo they are not ready yet. just simple as that. And they can learn a lot from Scholes. More from him than Anderson for example.
I believe that we will spend in the summer on midfielder. And I don’t care about net spend as long as the team produces and it does.
James
Looking forward to it pal.
Zelh
My sentiments exactly
Smartalex
That’s exactly what I’m talking about. It appears from some posts that what people want is exactly what city are offering. And for that there is a simple solution and for these people it would be much cheaper as this club sometimes let you in for a fiver!
Paul scholes was asked what’s his favourite all time goal was. He has scored screamers on the volley against Bradford, villa, put us through against Barcelona yet his answer was.
” the header against city, it wasnt a great goal but being a Manchester lad and scoring the winner at the away end in front of our fans was amazing”
Welcome back scholes
It was the easiest group in the CL and we deserved to get knocked out. The team was complacent and got what it deserved. The youn uns will learn from what happened.
Has nothing to do with the quality of the squad which will only get better next year.
And i just want to add. when i saw smalling on the bench, i was delighted simply because he’s a superb defender both aerially and on the ground. He’ll soon shift rio aside who is getting slower everytime, although he did put in a solid performance. Chris didn’t look like he’s been out for long so i’m delighted to have him back. I hope this will be the beginning of our players recovering from the treatment table.
Apart from the great save from aguero, i thought anders lindegaard put in a shaky poor performance. For the free kick goal, no keeper would probably have saved that but he looked slightly out of position for it (maybe i’m being harsh on that?)
For city’s second, that was just calamity goalkeeping. Fumbling a shot back into the dangerzone is what you just don’t do, disappointed with him on that one again.
On crosses, long balls and corners he looked shaky and flappy. Worrying trend developing there and for those saying he’s the more solid of the keeper couldn’t be more wrong, maybe more experienced but not better, i said he’d be tested in the next few big games and well people can see the myth in the clean sheets. Anyway i’m not writing him off or anything but personally i hope de gea gets better and become the full-time stopper.
Sorry, i meant when i saw smalling playing not bench.
samuel – looks like all the rotating and dropping and resting both goalkeepers have become really mentally weak. I’d say we should just stick with one, no matter what happens and that’s De Gea for me. Period.
Otherwise we have Howard/Carroll Vol. 2 in the making right now. And Fergie should realise that before it’s to late.
Mikekelly12 – People like dogs. Some of us forge great friendships with our dogs.
Other people like to kick the dog. Dominate it, punish it, and demand instant response.
Your dog is still there for you either way, just like United is.
I love United, and also, I love loving United. I’m one of the family, just like my dogs.
Some fun facts: Oldest United Signings in the EPL era.
Paul Scholes 37.2yrs.
Henrik Larson 36.3yrs (loan)
Edwin van der Saar 34.8yrs
Oldest to get a new contract would probably be Edwin by some margin.
As some have noted, Scholesy needs 12 games to pass Bill Foulkes and move into 3rd on the all time appearance list. He would need to play into next season to surpass Jack Rowley’s 17.3 years of service to the senior team.
Paul Scholes….. the Legend lives on!
Don’t you just fucking love this club, the gutter press rallying to call time on the most decorated club in English football, not on your life. Fergie got his tactics spot on today similar to when we play away in Europe, soak up the pressure and attack with pace and quality finishing. These tactics are being employed against Citeh and they are struggling, Sunderand, West Brom, and to some extent the bindippers who were very unlucky not to go in front at wastelands. On topic- Great to see Scholesy back!
zelh – In my opinion neither keeper has ever been dropped.
I’ll lay money on the fact that United have always known which of the keepers is playing the next game, and the one after that. The decision as to which keeper plays has never been made less than a games in advance; and more likely 2 or more games ahead.
We are developing both keepers, with the emphasis on de Gea, who is less ready for the Premiership, but more likely to become a World class keeper. Our plan to replace Van der Sar requires the development of de Gea while playing top-flight football. Lindegaard is already fairly competent, but also needs work. United will continue in this intended vein, and it is progressing very well.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. SAF builds great teams, we just have to be patient. It took him 2 seasons to break Chelsea and he saw the Wenger teams off. So why is it suddenly different? Because its Shitty thats why. We have mocked them for years and years so when it looks like they might have the chance to mock us it doesn’t taste very good does it.
It could be worse, It could be the Scousers.
UTD 20 Fuck Shitty.
Zelh – i agree, if wayne gets his head and right and doesn’t wind the manager up then of course i see him here for the long haul. His partnership with welbeck makes united more fluid, mobile and just unpredictable. Both are very good on the ball and without it so long may it continue.
Willie – yeah mate, i went crazy when his volley flew in. His all round performance was just superb, he was disappointed to be taken off which shows he’s very much established as a first team starting player and believes in his ability.
Scholes got O’Shea’s old number who got Scholes’ old number (and new number).
smartalex – well SAF said De Gea would be in goal against blackburn and newcastle and said pre-match that de gea is on the bench because he made too many mistakes against Bburn. Sounds like he was dropped to me.
Anyway, 22 is my favorite number, so it’s nice to see it in good hands again.
James21 – the idea of those arrogant blue twats parading and grinning with trophies would just not be a nice sight for every united fan.
zelh – Did he say that? Are you able to link that, or should I search? Thanks!
Hadn’t considered the angle some of you are using in repsonse to the Pogba and Morrison point being raised.
I thought the Ginger Ninja was already coaching at the club so don’t see how him actually playing would be a good thing for them.
Still, like I started with in the earlier post, well pleased he is back and well pleased with the result today.
Thought Keano was diamond in the commentary after the game when that git Chiles was banging on about positives for shitty, United won so there is no positive … priceless !
Bring on the Dippers.
Perhaps we should have T-Shirts made to support Paddy for the warm-up.
zelh – I have found this quote from Sir Alex about de Gea’s keeping in the blackburn game:
“We lost two terrible goals in the game and you can’t do that when you are playing a side that’s fighting for their lives. We missed the experience of Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs in midfield, but having said that when we got back to 2-2 I was certain we would win. Valencia had a great game in the second half but we couldn’t finish them off.
“We never got any breaks in the game, though I will admit we could have dealt with their winning goal better. It wasn’t just the goalkeeper’s fault, I thought we all could have reacted better. Obviously it’s disappointing not to be able to go top but we are still in touch and that’s where we wanted to be. We won’t play like that too often this season, we can play a lot better.”
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/dec/31/alex-ferguson-manchester-united
smartalex – no direct quotes but I can assure you that SAF said it. Have seen it myself.
http://www.stretford-end.com/2012/01/talking-points-newcastle-united-3-0-manchester-united/
If SAF keeps rotating De Gea and Lindegaard, I see a Howard/Carrol situation in the making.
People, will suarez back for the fa cup match against pool?
samuel – no he’ll miss that match.
Samuel
Nope
He still has alot to offer the team. There’s no question about that.
zelh – thanks for the link. I’m happy to take your word that he said it.
Not sure that it means anything though. Smalling was unavailable for today, yet played. Rooney found out today that Scholes rejoined our squad, a week after he started training full time with them. There are thousands of examples of his press conferences being deliberately misleading.
Even if we accept for the sake of this discussion that we intended to play de Gea, but changed our minds, there are many reasons why that might be done. We only submit team sheets on the day of the game, and make changes according to a myriad of factors. Some known to us plebs; but most unknown by us.
And in case the City twats keep saying about how they played with 10 men, just show them this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id0Xr3GcixI
zelh –
I think De Gea is the long-term prospect,” Sir Alex said. “No question about that. I think Anders has done very well and provided tremendous competition to David but the potential of David is obvious.”
“We’ve been doing it [rotating] quite regularly in games. It’s been a nice mix of opportunities for Anders, playing in Europe and some of the league games, and we’ve done it maybe half a dozen times.”
“Because we lost two bad goals against Blackburn doesn’t mean we’re neglecting that part of both of them playing.”
sam
They are far from arrogant. They are vermin ,vile, bitter and scumbags but they have nothing to be arrogant about. They have won nothing all they have is a Rich owner. If they win something it won’t last mark my words. Utd will destroy them and Monsour will have no choice but to move along the bus.
We’ll see how things unfold over the next 5 months, but I am pretty certain that at some point DDG will reclaim his spot and finish the season as our regular goalie. Linde doesn’t look like going the distance to me.
Zelh & mike – thanks, i think the racist fool is their most dangerous player really so that’s good. united should hit them on the counter when they go there but it will be a difficult game. Anyway hopefully we’ll take a fully fit squad because i expect them to play like it’s a cup final.
Its embarrassing that some fans do not welcome back one of our legends…. YOU lot wanted a signing, so SAF give you one then you complain? To me Scholes is better off than a whole new player that will need time to adapt to United.
To me, i stand firm that we needed a new signing in the mindfield and super delighted that it is in the shape of a LEGEND. A fucking UNITED LEGEND!!! Scholesy!!!
I am not waiting for him to do magic, because the one thing we need the most in the midfield is some sort of stability.. and no one is better at that than United…
Its a shame though, cause it’ll be great to have beckham back too. Saw him at the City stadium.. i bet he came all the way to talk to SAF about playing for UNITED again too….
Ouh, and i am going to JJB tomorrow to get the new Jersey with Scholesy on the back.. What is his squad number now? 22?
@Costas
Fucking hell mate thanks for sharing that link. I was at the stands that time.. the days when season tickets were still affordable….
Just watched the game again – not too much to say. Smalling disappointed me on their second did not react quick enough and then pointed the finger at Lindegaard – but I thought otherwise he played a decent game. Jones gave the ball away way too many times and looked a tad indecisive on more than one occasion. Rio is running like a camel – his back is defo fucking up his ability to run and control the back four. He too pointed the finger (at Jones) when he had no right to.
Main thing is we won!
As to the re-introduction of Scholesy – what can you say – showed his talent (even though one poor pass did cost a goal).
So to me me this indicates:-
1) Keepers are still on a learning curve
2) Middle of the field is a worry – not because of the talent but because of injuries – thought Anderson did a good job of cutting out the space and options for them in their end. Scholes coming back tells me that SAF believes he has the talent coming through but they still need time to develop – he will not be buying anyone at all. As an aside watched Peterborough v Sunderland – Tunnicliffe will be a player.
3) Our available centre backs are either injured/crocked (Rio) or inexperianced – the latter will change over time but for the short term we have an issue. The big concern is that the spine of the team is no where near as intimidating as we have had over the past number of years. (Perhaps selling o’Shea and Brown was premature – hindsight is brilliant right). The issue will change long term as players get more experiance but we may end up short this year due to the blight of injuries we have had. In every area of the field all season we have have suffered long term misfortune after misfortune with players being out.
4) Not sure at all about the options upfront – here is where we have a bucket load of options but very poor consistency. Wellbeck / Berba being the most baffling – one game outstanding the next shit. Chicarito had his injury but still not the impact player he was last year – I put that down to his injury.
Bring on the vermin.
UNITED – 20/12 – 2012 (and maybe the Europa Cup)
Anyone remember Mancini last week brandishing an imaginary card on the touchline, trying to influence the referee? It seems he’s a hypocrite:
“Rooney told him (the ref) his decision,” said Mancini. Asked if he felt Rooney had influenced Foy, Mancini said: “Yes, but I don’t want to talk about the referee. I want to stay on the bench for the next game. But we will appeal the card.”
“I’ve seen him do it before. He [Kompany] has got away with it before,” said Fergie. “If there had been contact with Nani then it would have been a bad one. The referee was right on that one.”
That big bastard who was in nets for city got a free header in our box, near the end? Sack all our defense.
Red army!
Anyone got a gif of Rooney’s header? Just seeing it there again. What a leap! Brave too. Pick it out ya Blue cunts!
just seen that foy gave the ball to them after valencia recovered it near the end. what a moron.
and how kolarov got away with the foul on valencia is beyond me. mind-boggling.
I’ve just watched the second half again. For those who haven’t watched it again in a more relaxed state of mind, I highly recommend that you do so. Ok, we didn’t create a lot, some poor balls into the box, some balls that should have gone in but didn’t. Some gaps that opened up and should have been driven into but weren’t. But as nice as it would have been to score a boat load, we didn’t need to and the whole second half was us keeping the ball. A free kick and a mistake by us was all they had and I mean ALL they had!! They threw a few hopefull balls in at the end but other than that nyada!! Oh, and I forgot to mention the stone wall penalty which would have made it 4-1?! So, watch it again and tell me any different and why we should be shitting ourselves. Please, go ahead?!
@smartalex – yeah, I just finished watching the first half, it has more than 20K views with second half about 5000 odd
@zelh – you are right man, fergie did say that he brought linde on for newcastle since de gea made a few mistakes – he said that during pre-match interview to shreeves.
I’m buzzing after today. Perfect day of Football, and I can’t fucking wait for Klanfield. We’ll murder the murderers in their own backyard if we play anything like we did in the first half!
But something that’s bothered me all day is the total hatred, bile and lack of credit that United get. A Chelsea cunt I know said that City were robbed with the Kompany red card. Are you fucking joking? They came back into the game! But they were still robbed. And of course all these jealous bitter cunts say that Kolarov on Super Danny wasn’t a penalty and that Jonesy’s “handball” was a clear penalty. This type of hatred is only reserved for us, and it’s fed by the media as well. Throw in the word ‘contentious’ and everyone and anyone who isn’t a United supporter will assume that it shouldn’t have been a penalty or a red card or a goal or whatever.
And this myth about United getting all the decisions, is that a serious argument amongst bitter jealous cunts? We’ve had shocking decisions in the past few years. No need to go into detail because we all know some of the situations I’m talking about. Not to mention people demeaning the FA Cup and calling it a mickey mouse trophy because United won. Seriously, a QPR fan said to me “who cares about a mickey mouse trophy, City will win the league”. As if he wouldn’t celebrate when his frankly pathetic club won the Carling Cup never mind the FA Cup.
And all anyone else can talk about is the red card etc. Fucking hell, after the first half we were dominating them in the first half in their own backyard! Even if a team goes down to 10, you still have to punish them, and how we did. It’s a shame they “came back into it” second half. If Lindegaard hadn’t spilt it for Aguero’s goal, well they didn’t create much beyond that. And yet City are going on as if the “moral winners” “winners in our heads”. When are they going to learn that they’ll never be a big club with that mentality? Frankly, if I was a City fan I’d be livid. I’d wonder why they didn’t draw at least, instead of going on about how you’re proud you lost. Christ. That’s why after any match I don’t like going on anywhere but RoM because everywhere else will try and say something negative about United. Can’t fucking stand it.
And why on earth are people calling the Scholes un-retirement desperate? Arsenal fans can’t say a fucking thing, they’re taking Henry back for two months. Everyone else tries to use that as evidence that “United are finished”. How many times have we heard that? Seriously, for fucking decades that’s been said. We took back a legend who wanted to play again and it’s like a free transfer, name one team that wouldn’t do that. In fact Sir Alex is the only manager I thought who wouldn’t do that! But what do I know. I was also calling Wazza a fat twat earlier this week and saying I wouldn’t mind seeing him leave. Well he proved me wrong today.
But in the meantime I’m going to bask in the glow of this victory and ignore all these cunts who play Football Manager and think they’re better than Fergie. I fucking love United for days like today.
A bit disappointed that Fergie didn’t tear the journos a new asshole after the game. He owed it to them after this week’s disgusting articles.
@izzy
You’re welcome. It was probably one of our gutsiest displays in a season where Rio’s suspension was like our spine being torn out. And for those that don’t remember, before they found their sugar daddy in Mansour, City were the final resting place for dippers like Fowler and McManaman. I envy you for being inside the stadium. It must have been buzzing on that day!
It’s always good to put one over on City. Great finishes by Rooney and Welbeck on their goals from open play. However, I finished watching a match a little disappointed and worrying signs are still evident.
We missed a golden opportunity to humiliate City, extract revenge for the 6-1, and puncture the hype surrounding these mercenaries due to our poor second half display, nothwithstanding referee Foy failing to award us a cast iron penalty that would have made it 4-1.
The Rooney and Welbeck strikes showed what can happen when decent ball is provided to the quality of striker we have, but overall our final ball was pretty poor, particularly second half. Rio looked out of sorts, blaming others for his own mistakes. We took our foot off the pedal when we should have been putting City to the sword, making the point to the rest of the rest of the EPL who’s boss and that the media-hyped monster has feet of clay. Anderson was back but was anonymous outshone by a re-registered 37 yo. No one up front getting ball much less holding it up second half despite our numerical advantage (where’s Berba?) so credit to Scholes for regularly finding someone wearing the same shirt deeper. Taking into account injuries, which hopefully should recede from hereon in (Smalling back today
I’ve never considered our squad to be anything other than the best in the EPL. However, I feel we currently lack that ruthless, cutting edge when facing inferior opposition, including 10 man City
We should have ravaged the bastards.
You where at the stands izzy, or in the stand? Which was it?
Just back home, what a day, what a game and what an atmosphere from the away end. I’m not sure how I managed to keep my voice, it was surreal. Nervy second half, wished we could have trounced City a bit more, but who cares we knocked the bastards out. Was very angry after Newcastle, but this has made up for it.
Danny Welbeck should play every week. He is quality. This is why you stay and clap the lads off after they lose 6-1 to our biggest rivals at home, they repay your faith and make days like this that much sweeter.
Great to see Scholes back also. My favorite United player, ever. Fingers crossed Cleverley comes back ASAP. Would love to see them two in midfield.
Absolutely buzzing.
Thats a good point Izzy, about Scholes being our January signing. Much rather have him back as an option than pay over the odds for any old so and so, Legend, We’re better than we look for various reasons imo but now till May will tell. Should’ve gone 4-1 up v mighty city but for a stupid ref. It was 1-0 anyway and I doubt Nani and Welbeck would’ve seen yellow. I’ll take 3-2 with that dodgy twat in charge all day. Next up Anfield, but its their cup final of the season (till next time) so King Kenny and his Kunts can be good chaps and wait patiently. Its all about the next 3 points.
Theres gonna be a lot of bitter fellows in the morning haha
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2083944/Manchester-City-comeback-shows-win-league-Martin-Samuel.html?
Stunning comeback, according to Martin Samuel. There’s me thinking United won? Unless his definition of stunning comeback is different to mine
@MikeKelly12 – 20:46 question – In a sentence mate, Fuck Yes! Its a long old slog so any luck along the way will do nicely thank you very much all and sundry!
@Willierednut – Lol Stunning come back my arse, credit to Mancini for his substitutions fair enough, but if we’re gonna get all arsey the two yellow cards to Nani and Welbeck fucked us up to the point they came off early. Its not like we were out for 3 points so bollocks to a come back, we we’re robbed of a penalty at 3-1 after one class free kick. The second was a keeper spill to be fair, so yeah it was a clever move by the Scarf, and congrats scoring 2 with 10 but you’d expect that from top competition?
Welcome to the club city, now stop being giddy and concede defeat graciously. Im not letting any bitters off this one
SAF: Wayne Rooney is the new Paul Gascoigne ?!
Hope that’s the young Paul Gascoigne. What a label to put on a lad…. sheeesh.
But both do get to much media scrutiny.
Wayne was my MOTM today, hope he can hold it together with us for the remainder of his career.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/08/wayne-rooney-fame-alex-ferguson?
A shame that of the 3% that weren’t complete, one resulted in a goal for Citeh and another nearly caught us out on the counter. Having said that, 97% is still pretty damn impressive for not having played at that level for the last 8 months. I think it’s a good bit of management by Fergie that will hopefully have done us good by the end of the season.
Still gutted we took the foot of the gas at 3-0. I really wanted to demoralise them in their own backyard today, but alas, we won, and that’s the most important thing.
Hmmm, I wonder, has he really, genuinely, regretted retiring or has he seen us stuttering and stumbling and rode to our rescue as our knight in shining armor?
If we had been soaring along with a full compliment of midfielders I doubt he would have come back.
The last time Scholes wore 22, we won the double.
@PJBS (??)
Funny handle mate. Well said about having the opportunity to do Sheikty. Couple of things were really working first half, especially Danny and Valencia. Kolokov couldn’t handle Valencia. But Jones was injured badly from the first half and the boss decided to get a bit more tactical brining on Scholes. Who would have guessed that he would have given up their 2 goal scoring opportunities.
Credit to Lindegaard that he kept everything out in the first half because City got some confidence in the second and finished their chances. That’s football thought and we were not going to give them a third.
We should have been 4-1 with Danny just missing a beauty from 2 yards. Also have said that Kolokov should have been off. The ref had blue glasses on the second half.
Still. Great great win. So chuffed for the lads. Played a belter today. Every United fan should be so proud.
Agreed Fletch.
I think the thing that annoyed me most about today was the inconsistency of the refereeing decisions. He basically dug himself a massive hole with the Kompany red card. Obviously, I wasn’t complaining when he got sent off, but any of us would have felt hard done to if that had happened to us, even though rules are rules etc.
After the red card, he then looked for any excuse to even the game up. I mean, if you’re gonna make a decision of that magnitude, at least stick with your convictions. Turning down a second penalty just showed a pure lack of control over the game in general.
Perhaps I’m being a bit greedy, but I was disappointed with the scoreline at the end. I was genuinely upset that we let them back in to have any sniff of a comeback so they could all post about their ‘moral victory’ on their twitter accounts. Bitter until the end.
Phil jones’ no you are not greedy at all. I was also disappointed by the scoreline at the end ( even though i had SERIOUS DOUBTS about us winning before the game). We could have and should have buried those twats. This has been plaguing us for a while. We go 2-0 or 3-0 up and then we sit back like we own the world. Lindegaard fumbling that easy save didn’t help things either. Let them scream about their “moral” victory. All I know is the scoreline does not record “moral” victories so i’m fine with that.
Scholes and Cleverly are the only attacking MF players that find space. They move into spaces allowing the person with the ball to pass to them and time for them to then take one touch and pass to the next person whos position they are aware of. They don’t just position themselves to receive, but to pass cleanly in a neat triangle. It sounds so simple and they make it look simple like they have all the time in the world, but amazingly, our other MF can’t do that. They can also score goals and pile in the assists. Dictate the game.
Carrick also positions himself to receive and pass well but he is now firmly a DM, he is better at breaking up attacks that Scholes and Cleverly and is a key player for United on current form but he has been a non-entity in the final third for a while now. He has the ability to be a Scholes / Cleverly but he is more conservative and less attack minded.
Agree that Scholes coming back shows up our weakness in CM, but it was obvious already and there was no way Pogba / Morrision were going to get into the first term this year they are nowhere near good enough yet – 2/3 more years post a few loans. Scholes will fill the position nicely in the meantime.
When the hell is Cleverly back?
Just saw the extended highlights of the entire match and I apologize for my outburst on the “confirmed lineup” thread. Guess, I was over reacting since I wanted us to give City a sound thrashing. Saw the 2nd half performance. Apart from the 2 soft goals, City didn’t really create any clear cut chances. We on the other hand had a shot on goal and a stonewall penalty denied. I would also say that the lads showed tremendous steel and mental fortitude to hold onto the lead and stop the momentum they had gathered. If I were a City fan, I would be disappointed that we did not go onto win the match. In front of a hostile crowd, with the rain pummeling down, with our Captain and half our squad injured, coming on the back of 2 back to back defeats and against a team which has a solid home record, we held the fort and showed everyone that we have the ability and character to dig deep and get results. This is what a championship team is all about. This is what UTD is all about. Not saying that we don’t have issues but it was great to see us not cave in to the pressure.
As any fan I would have liked to see us knock the stuffing out of them but there will be another day and place to do that. For now, lets enjoy the win. We have just knocked out City, the holders, out of the FA cup in front of their home crowd and it feels bloody good.
All these crap about moral victory is starting to get on my nerves, as long as united win the real matches then city can have their “Moral” victories.
Our slackness gave them a possible way back into the game. if today should teach the team anything (not like they haven’t lessons in the past few weeks) is to not take the foot off the pedal, you gotta ram home the victory by completely dominating use of the ball and opening them up. We just gave away stupid goals and more work needs to be done both defensively and in midfield in terms of cutting out errors.
As for kompany’s red-card,it may seem harsh i don’t really give a damn. We’ve gone down to 10 men against city a couple of times and suffered heavily for it so i’m not bothered.
If you really think pogba will be here in 2-3 years and not being no where near the first team then you really are mistaking.
Funny how it used to be “play badly and win, the mark of a champion”.
Now it’s “play badly and won a shameful victory / embarrassed by the win”.
Someone define “supporter” please. Is a supporter one who doubts the team EVERY single opportunity he gets?
Watched the game between Peterborough and Sunderland last night for obvious reasons. But the one that caught the eye was Sunderland’s James McClean. Promising prospect.
68Devils, yup, he caught my eye when I watched the game between them and City.
Tough tackling, committed, fairly quick. Would probably be a nice backup option for Evra.
Looks like a James Milner in the making.
Good Morning all Romers wherever you are. In light of yesterdays epic match, i’d like to call to attention something extremely important.
When people talk about idiotic journalists, sometimes they are genuinely idiotic. but even then you always try to be rational from a neutral’s point of view, what made them look idiotic? did they infact have a reasonable opinion but were forced to eat their words? Is their a force that time and time again makes them look like clueless fools after they’ve spent hours weighing up the odds like soothsayers?
Take this for instance(try to keep a straight face as you read what no doubt this journo meant to be a proffessional piece of writing)
In 2006, Rob Smyth wrote this article, about how Manchester United was “over” and Ferguson was ” destroying his Manchester United legacy” with every turn. Needless to say, his diction proves this nutcase was relishing the end of Manchester United as we know it. United went on to win the premier league 4 times in the next 5 seasons, 3 champions league finals and one UCL trophy, the World Club Cup, and several other trophies.
Feast your eyes>>> http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2006/jul/31/sport.comment
Before yesterday’s City game(no doubt predicting a city win), the same ogre wrote this piece on how Ferguson is “powerless to stop the Manchester United empire crumbling,” and how we are a “decaying club”
Again, Feast your eyes>>> http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/07/sir-alex-ferguson-manchester-united
P/S: The term “feast” is used here as a reference to the endless enjoyment i get from reading such articles. I thrive on them, i’d need life support if some nitwit didnt write at least half a dozen such articles each week. Fergie does to, am sure of that.
I hear Roy Kean is coming back as well…
Costas
I think you’ll find the correct pronounciation of the Shitty owner is Mansewer.
HAIL PAUL SCHOLES, KING!,
Beckham and Keane joining soon as well lol, with VDS
jokes apart, glad he’s made a comeback to help the team, he’s a red devil throughout, and i love players who show such passion
BTW, any follow-up on this rumour?
http://www.caughtoffside.com/2012/01/08/man-united-plan-49m-bundesliga-pair-bid-as-sir-alex-ferguson-looks-to-freshen-up-old-trafford-squad/
@68Devils: Indeed McClean looks a very good prospect, quick, and having a very good left-foot… may be if he continues like this SAF could get him in the summer to replace Giggsy. Tunnicliffe however did not impress for the posh
Stunning comeback indeed! Seriously down to 10 men , they scored 2 goals. Credit where its due.
Like Fulham did against us 3-3.
Then Everton did as well.
So ,how come they did not win the league?
Let me see, Mr.Samuel, its a marathon and its the uniqueness of every game u play over the course of the season.
For example, we know that another team or even Manutd on another day , wud have tightened thier grip on the game and maybe scored few more against city.
Maybe another referee wud have given Valencia the penalty and that cud have killed off the game.
Maybe mancini wud not take us lightly next time and played joe hart instead.
So many if’s ! Mr.Samuel , there is going to be many twists and turn in this battle yet.
Manutd have a chance to win this title still.
Maybe Everton will be celebrating on the 11th, victory in london against spurs ,helping themselves and us in the process.
In other news, La Liga’s advantage over the Premier League in terms of attracting players due to the low taxes, has been dealt a huge blow.
Premier League bigwigs owe a big debt to Spain’s government for abolishing Beckham’s Law and forcing top stars to cough up more than half their wages.
Last year the Spanish government scrapped a loophole named after David Beckham that allowed elite foreign workers — including professional sportsmen — to pay 24 per cent tax, HALF the top rate in Spain.
Becks was the first to benefit after its introduction just before his 2003 switch from Manchester United.
But news this week La Liga’s high earners will pay 54 per cent of their earnings to the taxman means the Prem can now compete to attract the best in the world again.
Jose Maria Gay, economics professor at the University of Catalunya, said: “Now foreign players will be more expensive.
“Before, thanks to the cushy Beckham Law, we were among those who paid the least in that area and now we are among those who pay the most.
“It is 54 per cent — 56 per cent in Catalunya.
“The repeal of the Beckham Law along with the rise in income tax is a bad joke.”
Spain’s big-hitters are faced with disastrous consequences.
Real Madrid and Barcelona’s wage bills stand to increase by tens of millions and already the effects are starting to show.
Eric Abidal is out of contract at the Nou Camp in the summer and he’s stalled on a new deal because of the tax rise.
For £250,000-a-week Ronaldo, questions about his future are starting to intensify but not because of the new income tax rate.
Chuffed to bits. Quick observations:
1. Obviously, like everybody else, I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t do them nice and propa. But, what the hell, a win is a win, and like everybody else has said, they didn’t create much, and both goals were soft (firts being a non-foul, and second being a combo of errors on our part).
2. Kompany’s red card was no debate for me. Given every time in Europe where the standards of reffing are higher than in England. Tony V shoulda got the penalty too.
3.I made my preference for Lindegaard very vocal, but yesterday was his first mistake (maye he had another mistake when he couldnt grab kolarov’s freekick right at the end, but that didn’t cost us thankfully). Dont think he could have done jackshit about the first goal though. I’ll keep his count, and just like I was OK with DDG making the initial mistakes, and became a tad critical only after the first 6 months, I’ll do the same for Lindy.
4. Rio is rapidly running out of steam, and Evra continues to be out of position. The defence without Vida in general continues to be a bit of a concern, particularly with young GKs. Our inexperience in the back 5 pretty much shows every game.
5. Am I the only one who thinks shitty is vulnerable to the counter attack? Nani’s goal in the 2-1 last season, Nani’s winner in the CC, rooney’s goal yesterday, and that Korean chap the other day from Sunderland. They seem to have got some great attacking talent, big aggresive defenders too, but when they bring out their attacking game they seem to be vulnerable to the counter.
6. Media are total, utter cunts. They probably jerk off with loud moans in their mums’ teacups everytime they catch a glimpse of wankini’s scarf. I couldn’t believe how dejected they sounded when United went up and then put in the next 2. “Great tackle from Kompany” – yeah would like to see you ride that one. Sounded like somebody was squeezing their lemons with a hydraulic press everytime they had to read the fuckin scoreline, or say that United had scored. By contrast they were frothing at the mouth at said scarve’s “tactical substitutions”, and city’s “great comeback” and “never say die” spirit. What a bunch of fucking tosspots. Made me sick. Hanging out of the wankini’s pussy like a 2 bit tampon.
Deep breath. Peaceout. Keep it a RED week.
@Robbo
Nice one pal.
By the way, I hope Evra doesn’t play at Anfield in the next round. Not afraid about him or anything, but it’s blatantly obvious that the draw was fixed just to capitalise on his first game at Anfield since the Suarez incident, so lets not give them the satisfaction. Fabio should be fit by then.
Ok, I just realized how funny my last sentence looks.
Give Fryers a start I meant!
@Costas: Ease on them kebabs and beer ! Try some tuak !
First things first some of the fans reaction regarding the second half is justified considering Fergie was equally annoyed in his post match interview. Maybe because I cant rub it into cit-eh fans faces over here, I am looking at the bigger picture rather than the present.
Scholes return should be a lift got caught up in the ITV propaganda, his misplaced passes cost us a goal and almost cost us another but still better than Anderson so will see what happens in the rest of the season.
Pogba and Morrison may be talented but the way modern football is and the cynic in me feels they wont be happy, nor will they be here next season. Shall see what happens in the Europa,
As for the glazers in 2002 we paid £30 million for Rio after spending over £50 million the year before and ticket in Sir Alex Fergudon stand were about £24. Now same tickets in tier 3 £36 with a lot less investment in the team. Sometimes especially in football in regards to United you cant have concrete proof but its staring you in the face if you want to see it.

Hello RoM. Hope you guys are doing well.
First thing first – Welcome back scholesy Legend.
Missed the last two games (NewCastle and City) as I wasn’t in home. i won’t talk about the newcastle game as I was very disappointed when I got to know the result that we had lost 3-0.
Watched the Highlights of city game and I was quite happy with our performance. Like many said we should have thrashed them but the main thing is we won and knocked them out. So FUCK OFF CITY.
My only worry is about goalkeeping situation. Lindegaard making a mistake last night is not a good sign. I am not doubting SAF but Rotating keepers is not working.
We need to start from the scratch in GK department. De gea needs continuous games. He need his confidence back. He has not done that poor like many are making out. We need to solve that before it gets too late.
Smalling should be playing as cb than Rb. The time has come where playing players out of position should stop. We have a great bunch of talented youngsters coming and we should not play them out of position too much.
Special mention to Danny’s performance yesterday. Its great to see a local lad perform so well. Great goal by danny and that to against City. Keep it up DannyBoy.
I just hope tom cleverley returns A.S.A.P. I don’t know when he will return but He is our midfield magician and we need him badly.
20/12 in 2012 and Europa cup
Anyone think there’s anything strange in the fact that we were number 3 in the draw or am I just being paranoid? Normally we’re twenty something.

to say Tunni didn’t impress is quite harsh imo. watched the match (well not the whole game), and Tunni didn’t get much of the ball. the wrong game to watch him play maybe. looks good on the ball though.
Notorious Red Devil, don’t forget that wages for the players have gone up many times.
We have a core of players who’ve been with the club for quite a while since Rio first signed, many having had at least 2 contract extensions/renewals. And chances are, each extension/renewal led to an increase in weekly wages too.
I suspect revenue from match ticketing alone probably just about covers wages for the team and staff, assuming one match a week. Not even sure if it includes variables like goals scored and appearance-based fees etc.
byron1970 – i thought the same thing
Ash – Did you see the save off Sergio Aguero in the first half it was incredible.
dazbomber
I saw it and it was great. But whats your point?
I think we should stick with him he is the better keeper i think.
@NBI 01.56 – Bang on comment mate, with regards to the midfielders making themselves available all the time.
As for Scholesy – he’s my favourite player of all time, so obviously I was chuffed when he came back.97% success rate says it all and I actually thought Evra was more at fault for the goal tbh.
One point which I think a lot of people are missing – a transfer is a LONG TERM investment!! We sign a player, then that’s a proper commitment. Do we need a midfielder? YES. But long term – Fergie sees Cleverley (and probably a couple of the guys from the Youth team) as the solution.
Now do you see the issue for Fergie?? He knows we need a midfielder. But he doesn’t wanna sign anyone coz that would stunt the development of Cleverley, Morrison etc. However…Cleverley’s injured and the others aren’t ready for the first team yet.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place right? That’s why he’s brought Scholesy back. Coz he’s a SHORT term option. He’s someone who can do a job for a couple of months….and when Cleverley’s back, he’ll be more than happy to take a back seat again. Unlike a new signing who would be expecting to keep his place, and would be tied to a contract.
@Redhound – that’s really interesting news – I’m curious about how it will pan out – how many players will avoid Spanish clubs, and how many will not renew contracts – mind you, we want players who want to play for our club not ones who just like our tax rates. Might benefit the likes of Chelsea and City more than us.
Great to have him back, but , I do not think this would have happened had we bought or produces another one or two world class midfielders.
He will probably be useful to see the matches out, or bring a bit of creativity, that we lack so mutch at the moment, when things get tough.
In any case, we need at least two word class midfielders.
PS still fuming about yesterdays second half performance. We should have not stopped until we got 5, 6 or more. So irritated by the ABU media , for praising so called City’s great second half performance that was mainly due to us going down a gear or two. As for the red card, the more I see it, the more I am convinced it was the correct decision.
great to have the Ginger Prince back!! i taught i was still pissed when i saw the breaking news! and then to go and dick City around wastelands was even better! Wazza was outstanding!
Scholes is my favourite player of all time so I’m obviously delighted he’s back playing. There is no way though that he would have approached Ferguson if he thought he couldn’t do it any better than the people we have. As good as he is, if at 37 and having retired he still feels that he can do a better job than what we have isn’t saying much about what we have and even less about the much touted Morrison, Pogba etc. Still, despite our midfield shortcomings for the moment I’m basking in the glow of looking forward to the balance, stability and creativity he will bring.
@Xyth
Yeh. I mean there must be a certain amount of credit to Mancini for his tactics and to the players for keeping their heads up, but we really shouldn’t have let them back in the way we did. I think when he withdrew Silva, our players possibly assumed they had conceded defeat and were just planning to see out the rest of the match. Absolute sucker punch from them, and utterly unprofessional from us if that is the case.
Having said that, if the ref gives an utterly stonewall pen for Kolarov on Valencia, we probably go 4-1 and put the thing to bed.
Wont get into a deep debate about the glazers, but too many people are quick to defend them on here, vast majority havent been to OT, but have a pop at the crowd, down to the glazers that. Not everyone can make it to OT I appreciate that but conversely if I read one more comment about how the glazers have, increased the commercial revenue I will get seriously pissed off, with the amount of debt on the club thats the least they can do.
Good Afternoon ROM!
NBI, Spot on about mid-fielders moving into space and receiving balls. This is the same quality that we were discussing about on ROM a few months back when talking about the qualities brought to the team by Cleverley. Anderson just doesn’t do the same. You look at Tom C play even in the small CC match. He was passing and immediately moving into space to collect the return ball. He is just like Scholesy in that regard. The latter did the same very effectively in yesterday’s match which allowed us to retain a shit load of possession towards the end. None of our other mid-fielders do that as effectively as those two.
Regarding our GK situation, I think Scott got it spot on in his post-match reactions yesterday. I also wanted Lindegaard to play a lot because I have a soft corner for him that I can’t deny. However, if DDG is to be groomed as a future No. 1, then he ought to be played a lot more consistently.
Regarding the match itself, now that I have calmed down I am taking a bit more heart from the fact that we did beat City in their own backyard. I still can’t get over the disappointment of not putting them to the sword especially after the position we found ourselves in at 3-0 up. Apart from that though, it was a brilliant performance in the first half and a overall great result for us considering our recent run. Let us take it forward from here now that we expect City to have a blip in form given Kompany’s red and the loss of Toure as well. We’ll see how they cope without their two best players. We need to keep doing the business from our end.
@Balaji,
Spurs visit wastelands in a couple of weeks, hopefully with a full squad, and hopefully with Kompany’s ban not overturned, and hopefully with Balotelli and Dzeko still out. You’d have to back Spurs then…
@Balaji
Not sure about ‘two best players’ though. Silva?
@NotoriousRedDevil
I know how you feel mate.
A part of that debate is about bringing in players.
I think SAF has always tried to bring players through the youth system but where necessary has complimented the team bringing in some big names.
I’ve never heard SAF say things like their no value in the market, players are not good enough to play for Untied, the players we want are not available. I’m sure lots of players weren’t available until United came along with lots of money? If we wanted a player, we just went out and got him. I can think of many players that would be good enough to play in that United midfield. All seems a bit strange to me.
On the other hand I can see United have the talent in Morrison and Pogba. But they don’t seem to be played very often if they are that good, and at the same time they haven’t been sent out on loan to get games to become good enough. Very confusing.
Mikekelly 12.
Not in the least unhappy and mighty pleased you do have opinions, trouble is mate I also have them and like to express them. Not a great fan of ignoring problems I see.Just wonder why you don’t challenge my view if you disagree rather than comment on my perceived negativity,my post Friday
parryheid says:
A few weeks ago I had this game as a nailed on draw, now I think we could even win it because City are in the position to treat United with the contempt we have shown others this season.Mancini will have looked at our last two games and came to the same conclusion I have they’re gone. And to compound it we apparently aren’t buying anybody in this window talk about complacency.
And proved 100% Correct. So would you say realism is the new negativity now?
Mes.
Try and be original, don’t just parrot someone else’s view it’s not clever.
@parryheid
I’m glad United beat City. But I too don’t think it should cover up the problems in this team.
satnav online in 3, 2, 1 …
AlphaRs.
Shh some on here don’t like people looking at problems square in the face youll get labelled negative.Lol.
What Notorious said. We can’t ignore the weaknesses when they are there. I did the same after we won 3-2 at AC Milan in 2010 and other kept saying that only the win mattered. Then we got hammered 3-1 at Everton 4 days later.
It’s not about City scoring twice. Defensive mistakes and bad officiating can happen. Our approach in general was disappointing compared to the first half.
@parryheid
Let’s pretend everything it ok then as long as we got the win…!
Obviously the whole put the ball out wide and cross it in is great except when it doesn’t work.
Then their is that feeling of what do we do now?
Erm I know! Long ball!
No way were we playing long balls in that match, the possession stats say otherwise.
Definitely a mental problem in that second half though, whether it was people taking their foot of the gas or players not being too confident after the last 2 games (I actually think its the second reason….but obviously the manager and the players won’t wanna admit that because its showing weakness….so they’ll say it was them being complacent)
Bringing Scholesy on was a good move coz it helped us keep the ball….but moving Giggs out wide left was a bad one, coz he didn’t have the legs to help Evra out. City’s attacks were coming down that flank, I would’ve moved Rooney out there coz he’ll run all day long.
I know Danny was on a yellow card, but I would’ve kept him on as well. He normally tires after 60 minutes but not yesterday, he was absolutely chomping at the bit all the way through. Giggs could’ve come off for Anderson’s fresh legs, but obviosuly Fergie wanted experience out there.
@Sparkz
My reference to long balls was in relation to the Newcastle game.
Where clearly their was no creativity or drive. Tiote and Cabaye ran rings around our midfield.
@AlphaRS – Yeah you might be right there tbh. I’d say that was largely down to a) our wingers not firing and b) Rooney and Berba not offering much in terms of coming short to offer an option.
AWESOME!
Welcome back ginja ninja. I wonder what’s happening with those who are having a go at him. He’s a true legend who has a proven record. Can’t wait to see his inch perfect long passes that have been missing for a while.
I AM SO FUCKIN HAPPY RIGHT NOW
