“Wayne said to me he changed his mind. So I said, ‘Never change your mind’,” Ferguson revealed. “He went the other way but he got the rebound.”

    should never change your mind whilst taking a penalty!

  2. Macheda IS GOD says:

    He’s right
    NEVER change your mind when your going to take a penalty,you might lose your footing(Jt ring any bells)
    Get confused or
    slip….;)

  3. Macheda IS GOD says:

    damnit bchilds
    you beat me to it

  4. Macheda IS GOD says:

    To scott:
    the advertisment is blocking somethings like the search bar
    pls fix it

  5. aig alex is god says:

    and nearly missed it. Luck lad wayne. Dont make the same mistake again. Could have cost us dearly on another day.

  6. willierednut says:

    I said this yesterday on a different thread, thank fcuk he followed the rebound in.

  7. willierednut says:

    I couldn’t watch the pen, i lost my bottle lol.

  8. Demon says:

    Smash it down the middle

  9. Macheda IS GOD says:

    willierednut
    lol

  10. yergen says:

    It was about time we had another penalty though. We haven’t had too many this season, it seems. What’s the statistics around this in comparison to the other top teams? Do you have any idea, Scott?

    Well, maybe it’s for the better since our scoring penalties record is not great this season. This means I’n not counting yesterday as a penalty goal.

  11. Macheda IS GOD says:

    yergen we only missed 2

  12. Costas says:

    The best thing about penalties, is to do what Ruud used to do. Shoot the ball low at the same corner with the same power. In the 02-03 season, Ruud was aiming for the same square of the net each time!

    Wayne goes for a different direction each time. Or so it seems…

  13. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    was it a peno was it a dive was it a red card was it a freekick the question i want to know the answer to is why was that paddy power add banned

  14. King Eric says:

    Missed 2? Burnley away and what is other?

  15. Macheda IS GOD says:

    costas
    God you made me remember his miss against arsenal… :(

  16. rubito says:

    Hi,
    Please tell him to never do that again.

    COME ON YOU MIGHTY REDS UNITED UNITED UNITED

    LUHG

  17. Costas says:

    @GHTT

    If you ask the FSW, he will tell you it was a dive. But the way I look at it, Webb could have done two things: Free kick outside the box and a red card or penalty and a yellow card. There was no way he was going to lean completely in fabor of us or Liverpool. He just chose the lesser of 3 evils for LIverpool.. Because if they played with 10 men for 80 minutes, they would have got hammered.

  18. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

    Other is yesterdays. Rooney scored the rebound the peno was saved.

  19. Costas says:

    @MIG

    That’s when he started messing up his technique. Season 02-03 was his best penalty wise.

    But the best penalty taker in my lifetime, is Cantona. Not only did he score on almost all of them, he sent the goalkeeper in the wring direction almost every time!

  20. Costas says:

    wrong direction

  21. willierednut says:

    Who would have thought a few years ago, that Park and Fletch would be receiving the adulation there getting now from the fans.

  22. Macheda IS GOD says:

    king eric
    burnley and liverpool…its still a penalty miss

  23. aig alex is god says:

    Dont know whether it was penalty or no. It looks like mascherano lets him go as he is about to enter the box. It certainly wasnt a red card. However FSW should be the last person to complain about it given the number oid dives stevie me has made to earn penos. What goes around comes around.

    Torres should have been semt off. He kicked the penalty mark away in frustration and then made a lunge for which he was booked.COuld have been 2nd yellow

  24. Macheda IS GOD says:

    costas your right i certinalley remember ruud smashing them in…but he was haunted against arsenal

  25. valencia2010 says:

    Any one saw it? when torres miskicked the shot in the second half, when it bounced over his foot it was because he kicked the penalty spot just before the penalty.llloooolllll!

  26. Macheda IS GOD says:

    aig
    so what if fernando kicks the Penalty spot
    Imagine if your torres and you might be about to witness your goal which gave your club the lead against manchester united taken away by you from the penalty spot
    I’d be pissed if i was torres.

  27. aig alex is god says:

    Zidanes penalty in the WC final. You need balls to do that on a stage like the WC final chipping it in

  28. willierednut says:

    @Costas
    It’s close between Ronny, Cantona and Rudd, but i’d give to RVN.

  29. aig alex is god says:

    @MIG

    if you show your anger and punch the air in frustration it is a yellow card, so why not for this?. It was a stupid act and torres should have been booked., So what if he scored the opening goal.

    Ofcourse torres would be pissed but you cant do that

  30. Costas says:

    @AIG

    Lets also look at last season’s game. When Vida got sent off in the 4-1 loss, Fergie was making the same point that a few people made last night about Carragher: That Rio Ferdinand would have got across and reached Gerrard. It’s clearly a judgment call. Valencia(and in fairness Gerrard last year) would have gone for goal befoe the defender would have reached him. But maybe Howard Webb felt that Valencia wasn’t going to score anyway. :P

    @MIG

    He made amends a year later when he scored one against Lehmann and then kicked the shit out of Cashley Cole. :D

  31. Macheda IS GOD says:

    Aig @12:50
    and if memory serves right he hit the crossbar!God he was one bad motherfucker
    and in 12:54 your right…when you do take it into consideration just swear in some filthy spanish words or something no ones going to understand you

  32. Macheda IS GOD says:

    @costas
    i bet ashley hates united
    he also got tussled down by rooney
    haha i laughed so much that year

  33. Costas says:

    Ah yeah. Torres kicking the spot was a clear yellow card. It’s petulance of the highest order. Barthez got a yellow for delaying the penalty take didn’t he? This isn’t any different. But as valencia2010 said, it probably bit him on the ass late on!

  34. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Costa
    as i wrote before on the peno ,did valencia get fowled outside the box
    yes
    did he get brought down while running into the box

    no

    which is pull on the shirt ,free not given , advantage played

    fowled again inside the box arm pulled player went down

    peno given

    its simple

    advantage given then peno given

    to say that the free should of been given outside the box like rafa and alot of rival fans are saying then that means the want people to drop on any given touch

    @aig

    very surprised by your comment on the peno
    not that i was surprised by the way you didnt think it was a pen nor the way you werent in favour of united with it

    just that the match ended 21 hours ago and im surprised it took you this long

    but once again you were staright in with a diffenert non united player who takes a better pen than a united player

    @Macheda IS GOD

    yor not around much lately hello to you

  35. aig alex is god says:

    @Costas]

    yeah of course. No offence but i didnt have high hopes on tony scoring. possibly ref took that into consideration and then gave the peno. smart from webb ;-)

    I didnt think it was a red but it depends on your judgement. possibly the refs also dont fancy sending players off early as happened with vidic in the CC final.

  36. Costas says:

    @willierednut

    Ruud at his best was unstopable with penalties. It was fun seeing goalies knowing full well which side he will pick, but concede them anyway. Cantona was more fun with penalties though because he was embarassing the goalies. :P

    Ronaldo became a very good penalty taker too. He just missed the most two important ones!

  37. Macheda IS GOD says:

    GHTT
    i’ve been in bed recently cause of asthma…yeh manchester’s not the best of places when you got it so sad i couldn’t go to the liverpool game :(

  38. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    @costa
    Cantona was unreal with a peno
    he only ever missed one
    and it was a pre season
    but on aigs topic of balls taking a peno
    ruuds peno against arsenal a year after his last minute miss were all hell broke loose after it
    that was balls and his screams of joy after it was a wonderful moment

  39. aig alex is god says:

    @ghtt

    Dont know what personal vendetta you have against me. I am not saying anything against you nor replying to your posts and yet you fancy having a go at me everytime i say something. If you feel i talk shite or whatever dont read my posts. Its not too difficult i guess.

    When did i compare any of Uniteds openalty takers with Zidane. I just mentioned his peno because we are talking about technique of penalty taking and calmness under pressure when evern the best can miss a peno

  40. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Well Macheda IS GOD hope your better now and welcome back

  41. Macheda IS GOD says:

    aig
    you said it yourself
    surprise surprise
    Lmao

  42. Costas says:

    @AIG

    Yeah, that might also be part of the reason. That it was early in the game. And I said it yesterday, that overall I won’t have a problem with it. I wanted to beat the dippers 11 v 11 anyway. I just wish Rafa realised that he was lucky in the whole ordeal. Not that he will ever admit it.

    @GHTT

    No I agree that in the end it was the correct decision. I just feel that it’s a moment in the game that can be interpreted in many different ways. It depends ont he referee and how he considers a “goal scoring opportunity” or “playing advantage”. He did well by playing the advantage with Valencia. I haven’t watched the headlines today, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they focused more on Rafa’s meltdown than a “dubious”penalty.

    FFS Rafa even said that they were in control of the game until then. For 5 freaking minutes!

  43. Costas says:

    @GHTT

    Eric also missed one at Elland Road of all places. The scum enjoyed that. But they got hammered 4-0 on the day and eventually Cantona scored. Lol.

  44. wayne says:

    just read rooney limped out of old trafford last night anybody no anything

  45. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    @costa
    i really dont remember that
    maybe i just blocked it

  46. Costas says:

    We’ve made plenty of comebacks in big games this season. Against Arsenal and Liverpool at OT. Against Milan at the San Siro. Against Tottenham at White Heart Lane. Against Villa in the League cup final.

  47. Bob Koh says:

    I have to admit it…I switched channels during the pen! Swear not to do it again.

  48. Costas says:

    @GHTT

    It was a 4-0 win in September of 96. Butt scored, Pobordky scored, Wilkinson was in charge for Leeds. Good times…

  49. King Eric says:

    aig – Thanks mate. Even though he scored the rebound surely it goes down as a pen scored?

  50. Mila says:

    What do you guys think about this last rumor.

    I know it’s just a rumor, but certainly persistent one.

    SO – DAVID VILLA?

    http://goal.com/en-us/news/85/england/2010/03/22/1844160/manchester-united-comment-no-space-for-red-hot-david-villa

  51. King Eric says:

    Macheda is god – Why are you siding for the tranny? He is a petulant little cunt who should be charged for yesterday’s antics.

    Costas – Bang on about Eric’s penalties pal.

  52. wayne says:

    @mila thought it was against club policy to splash out big cash on players over a certain age so really don’t know plus there will be a bidding war for his services so i’d have to say unlikely

  53. willierednut says:

    “United are the prime example of a club with the right spirit, you look at Chelsea and wouldn’t say the same” well said Keano.

  54. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

    No mate. Dont think so. The scorecard dosent say ,

    Rooney 12 (P).P standing for penalty It dosent go down as a penalty scored

    I have scored many rebounds in fifa 2010 PC game after missing the peno but it shows a cross where i miss the penalty. :P

  55. Mila says:

    @ wayne

    I agree with the article and I agree with you, my one and only comment onthe issue is that with current LUHG campaign, the Glazers will want/need a big signing to prove how great they are and how are they invested in the club.

    Surely the signing of Villa would make a big splash – huge news and certainly victory over neighbors and rivals.

    But we need someone like Sneider and Di Maria, not Villa.

  56. willierednut says:

    If Villa was around 25, 26 i would be happy for the club to spend 40 million on Villa, he is a top stiker, but he’s getting on now.

  57. wayne says:

    @mila it doesn’t matter what the glaziers do fans just want them out, i also think any move will be sir alex’s decision not the glaziers.at 28/29 40mill seems alot to spend on a player and do we really need him? its a bit of a strange one

  58. rohitvarkey says:

    wat abt the other david @ valencia…….silva would do quite well wudnt he?

  59. theboogeyman says:

    King Eric- It’s definitely not a penalty scored, Rooney’s my fantasy captain and he got fucking minus points. That’s okay, though, BECAUSE WE’RE TOP OF THE LEAGUE! And that, dear FSW, is a FACT.

  60. NotoriousRedDevil says:

    @ GHTT – Cantona missed 2 penalties for United in competitive games one vs Leeds which has already been mentioned and one vs Blackburn also same season. He also retired that year, could that have been what he meant by how he didn’t love the game anymore.

  61. tengkiat says:

    FIFA rules clearly state that: “If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.” (:

  62. Corea says:

    It was clever from Tony. Really clever.

  63. Giles Oakley says:

    On penalty takers I think King Eric (the player, not our favourite here on RoM!) has to be my all-time favourite. I loved the two he got against Chelsea in the ’94 Cup Final. They were so exactly similar you can hardly tell them apart in photos. I also loved his one against the dippers on his return from his ban in ’95. But I’d also put in a mention for Dennis Irwin, who could both whack them and place them perfectly at the same time, which I love. Going back further Denis Law was cracker-jack lethal from the spot. I don’t know the stats but I don’t recall him missing any. Going back a little further, Albert Quixall was a good penalty-taker too, going for classy-looking, velvetty, relaxed-as- can-be placement.

    Hope your asthma is getting Macheda-is-God. I have it mildly too, so I sympathise, although from the sound of it I’ve never had it nearly as bad as you. I’m more like Paul Scholes…

  64. ellemenohpee says:

    Nevermind a yellow for Torres.. Wat he did to the penalty spot was wanton vandalism.
    The club spend thousands looking after the pitch and he shouldn’t be allowed to purposefully destroy it.
    I think he should be forced to come and do a days work with the groundstaff to repair the damage he did. If the scousers had any class they’d tell him to volunteer his services.

    On a different note.. I saw Kuszack in trafford centre today.. bumped right into him in marks n sparks.

  65. kaihnsn says:

    @costas,

    yeah agree about cantona. i just love his arrogance and confident. i never had a nerve when he takes his penalty. he was just so coooool

  66. Stateside Aussie says:

    yeah well, may as well throw the cat among the pigeons … I thought cantona and RVNR were both great penalty takers … but in terms of technique and sheer fucking confident attitude, I always enjoy watching that arch prick Tevez take penalties. Even though I’m glad the little money-grabbing prick decided to take his three pieces of silver and go across to citeh, i still like the way he takes penalties. i mean, there’s no hint of nerves, or indecision, no summing up his options, or even thought … just walks back to the spot, turns, waits for the whistle, bounces up in the air, bounds in and whacks it. don’t know what his success rate is, though i never saw him miss one (might have done, though). what i’m saying is, if i was a defending goalie, i would always look for some sign of nerves, or indecision, or something, and with Tevez, I would never see it.

  67. ajopaul says:

    Stateside, think his miss against Equador is the only recent penalty he’s missed. Yeah it takes a lot to get the penalty through.. and english players are notoriously poor in them!
