Fergie: Rooney Was Always Coming Off But I Understand Reaction

“Wayne played as a lone striker for an hour and he was always coming off,” said Ferguson. “He is never pleased to come off as he has that kind of energy.”

think its perfectly normal for that reaction.I mean, you don’t expect him to be smiling when he’s subbed off at the 64th min with the scoreline still at 0-0 right.so there’s no big hooha about it.Rooney for the world!

  2. ynnek says:

Maybe he was pissed off for why Fergie did not subbed him off sooner…Hahaha

  3. Chep says:

the difference in him comparing to Ronaldo is that we don`t need to be worried of him going out of the club in the next possible opportunity

  4. audiods says:

i agree with the gaffer and that’s what i like from wazza actually, his determination for United is absolutely huge..
he was just upset coss united didn’t play particularly well and at that time he didnt manage to score em a goal..
    rooney rulessss

  5. David Nathaniel says:

Surprised especially coming from Rooney however we mus also understand that these dudes are also human beings and sometimes react when they dont get their way… i scheme most of the best players never wanna come off especially if the score is still 0-0 however i think Fergie had the derby in mind and we do need Rooney on form that day and injury less…

All in all it was a dull performance but i thought our mid-field was bbllaarrrgghhh and we never really looked like we wanted it that bad but a win is a win…

i think Citeh could be watching the game and thinkin they could get something out of it but i scheme they will get it… all united need is the first goal and the flood gates will be open.

  6. Gudjohnsen says:

Also, Rooney didn’t shake his head for the rest of the 30 minutes that were left of the game like Ronaldo did.

But anyways, Rooney had a quiet match like the whole team and had been playing as a lone striker for an hour, that must be frustrating. But how chilled out is Rafael/Fabio in that picture next to Rooney?? He looks like he just smoked a fat one, lol…

  7. Welbz19 says:

Absolute baby don’t expect him to be happy but throwing stuff about just looked a bit pathetic!

  8. aig alex is god says:

as usual the media is making a mess of this issue. We all know what a toughie wazza is.he wants to play every minute of every game.as ronny said wazza will kill himself for the club.people said it is childish.maybe. but i am happy because it shows how much he loves the club.had he scored and been taken off that would not have been the reaction.he was disappointed with his performance and his failure to score.he always wants to score and make a decisive contribution.it is not always possible but it is good to see the fire he has.hope he can remove this anger on sunday.

  9. Markus says:

    Da Silva looks stoned.

  10. venu says:

We need to wrap that metatarsal up, Wayne!!

  11. trevor says:

To be honest i dont like this type of thing, rooney has just highlighted that he has some maturing to do still!

I can accept that Top Players want to play every game but in fact it is not a reality. No player can play every game at the top of their potential!

With so many games, and with so many being important players need rest.

Lets face it, Last night rooney worked his socks off but because of the formation & because of Being up front alone he didnt look too much of a threat to me… He did work real hard and put himself about!

So with 30 mins to go, Bring Rooney Off, Give Berbatov & Owen a run out and give the Oposing players something differnt to think about!…..

I am sure the Anti Owen Clan will be on at some point to slate his performance, but for me i was pleased to see him on the pitch.. He offers something completly differnt to what we have.> Sits on the last man, Makes inteligent runs. Always looking for the through ball……

With a 1-0 win last night i was super pleased, i would have taken 0-0 to be honest!….

With regards to the crowd and the noise i thought that was phenomenal. If only Old Trafford could be like that!

  12. venu says:

Da Silva looks stoned + 1 . At least VDS has some company!!!

  13. Abhay_RedDevil says:

Yep…..Fabio looks like he’s been smoking crack during the half time break behind fergie’s back…..my god I cant stop laughing….hahahaha

  14. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

……and that is why is far from ready to be captain.

  15. wazza (Bezi) says:

not a big deal.maybe he has set his sights on breaking Ron’s 42 goals record.

  16. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

At first ya think the guy is up there on his own with no support and had to do all the donkey work for a hour and he could have scored a couple if he’d a strike partner to play off then the took him off and switched it to 4-4-2 which Wayne wanted and they scored no wonder he’s pissed off and ready to explode but then you think like the sir manager and think city on Sunday I’ve Rooney In the form of his life pissed off and ready to explode the next time he’s on a pitch the you think 4-3-3 against a team you know your gonna beat means it’s not a fast paces match that will bollox out players and also gives berbatov a rest . Manchester united went on a 4 hour flight to turkey and came back rested with 3 points and a pumped up Rooney. Excellent work sir Alex

  17. kel says:

I’m not sure what it will be. Although i’m afraid his ego of stuff like this gonna be another Ronaldo, but i bet there is nothing to this incident.

  18. Costas says:

I understand his frustration. Playing up there on your own is not fun. But i thought we got rid of this shit this summer(not that i am comparing yesterday’s thing to Ronaldo’s sulking). Maybe READ CAREFULLY WHAT I Said is right. That’s why SAF hasn’t made him captain in any game. Anyway, i relaly fear for City now. Not only is Rooney in form, but he is pissed off.

  19. parth312 says:

i have been reading the Fabio comments, then looking at his pic and laughin like crazy for the last 20 mins.. who needs dope when u can get high watchin Stone cold Fabio..hilarious !!

  20. Jassim Al-Thani - Qatar says:

the reaction on Fabios face is priceless !!!!!

  21. KJ says:

Well, if you take away that kind of passion from Rooney.. then you won’t end up with Rooney! Im sure SAF knows all about that. The more Rooney is fired up, the better it’ll be for Sunday!

After all, this is only the SECOND game Rooney hasn’t scored in this season!

  22. trevor says:

I hope rooney has a good game against city.

For me in the past rooney’s temperment has effected his game in big matches. When he gets worked up he sort of looses composure and it is not only his tackling that become rash but his passing and shooting also.

His energy can not be called into question.

I think this will come with time & Experience…. Players in the simular mold to Rooney Mature late in their career…Players i am thinking of are Bergkamp, Baggio, Peter Beardsley…….

  23. james f says:

Fabio isn’t stoned. He doesn’t need drugs. Just sitting on the United bench makes you high!!!

  24. romeo says:

    Fergie is a genius!
Do you remember the last time he substituted Rooney last season. The latter wasn’t best pleased. And how well did he come back for the next game.
Thats how he’s gonna come back against Shitty!

  25. wayne says:

i hate the single striker formation i can understand roony being pissed working his ass off for an hour on his own to see fergie switch to 2 strikers,it was clear utd would have been happy with the point after 60 odd minutes it was obvious the turkish team wasn’t going to score so he brought roony off to save him for sunday i think sometimes we forget roony is still young

  26. CROoney says:

this reaction along with his little incident against fulham shows that he hasn’t matured yet…imagine keane doing it

  27. King Eric says:

Morning all. 3 points in the bag.

aig – “as usual the media is making a mess of this issue.” Spot on mate, did you really expect any different.

Off topic . I have been very surprised that certain papers have got us down as world beaters last night!

  28. Irish Red says:

I have no problem with the man not wanting to come off or being frustrated or whatever but how come when ronaldo did it last season everybody slated him for being a moaner including some united fans on this site??????

  29. kaihnsn says:

saf subbed rooney just to make sure he will play like hell this weekend. and maybe saf want rooney to pour his anger on hughes face hahaha

  30. swissred says:

it’s that anger that makes him a better player on the pitch. remember the newcastle volley? i thought he kinda lost it in previous seasons and hope he’ll regain it! Go Wazza!

  31. Rite$h says:

Rooney’s a hell of a footballer, but his temper as well is like hell, explosive :)
He just has to bear in mind he can’t play all games 90 minutes with players like Berba and Owen waiting to get some playing time as well. Would like to see Kiko start some games as well to gauge if he has improved

  32. Devilton says:

Being disappointed is fine. Wanting to play for 90minutes every game is fine. But acting like a baby isn’t. This is why SAF is right that Rooney still has a long way to go before he can even dream of being the Captain of United.

I don’t blame his reaction. He’s never been one to hide his feelings, and in some ways it’s good to know he has such passion. But maturity…well, that’s a different story.

  33. redjoe10 says:

Good to see that he shows such passion. Always wears his heart on his sleeve, and its great to see fabulous riches haven’t diminished that. Its a cliche to say that he’s like a kid in the school playground but that doesn’t make it any less true.

  34. bigphil2003 says:

As I mentioned in another post – the difference between this and the Ronaldo incident is that when Ronaldo was taken off, United were a few goals up and cruising – he was pissed off at Sir Alex because he wanted to get the golden boot. Rooney’s reaction tells me that he’s pissed off, not at Fergie as it was always the plan for him to come off, but at himself because while he was on he couldn’t help the team into a winning position. If United were winning when he came off Rooney wouldn’t have been annoyed. Rooney plays for the team, Ronaldo plays for himself.

GHTT, good analysis – it may have been a boring game to watch, but the team didn’t have to work too hard and with Fletcher, Giggs, Rooney and Berba not playing 90 mins we should hopefully see a refreshed team on Sunday.

  35. willierednut says:

Totally different frm ronny’s sulking, wazza’s more of a team player ronny was always more selfish. The only other time i can remember wazza doing this was in the champions league final against the rentboys.

  36. theCount says:

Let´s hope that SAF plays Rooney and Berbatov up front from the start in the Derby.

  37. jimmy bob says:

we actually looked better when rooney came off last night.

He is our best player by a mile and I expect him to be on fire come sunday.

poor old de silva looked shit scared as rooney went off on one!

Nice to see some players still want to play and it hurts them to be subbed

  38. redevil1878 says:

TOTALLY dif for WAZZA compared to ronaldo… WAZZA is doing it with PASSION for UNITED and not ronaldo for ronaldo. no disrespect to ron btw but its WAZZA for UNITED.

  39. manutdchampions2008 says:

    jimmy bob
no it was the system changed when united went 2 upfront it had nowt to do with rooney coming off. but the medias pethetic reaction to rooney coming off is just hilerious, they are determined to try and put doubts and undermine united because of they have written united off with ronaldo gone. what is now annoying me is rooney did have ronaldo who would take the pressure off rooney and the media would always concentrate on ronaldo, now ronaldo is gone they are now doing it again what they did to rooney in his early career hype him up to death and go on and on about him. they now have rooney again to target like they done with beckham best ronaldo and its pethetic.

  40. cantona7 says:

Rooney is a crazy guy with stamina of a bull. I just cant imagine playing that amount of time( over 400mins in less than 20 days), at Rooney’s workrate, and still not satisfied, still want to play more. Just too immense. Sheer passion.

  41. rachelreddevil says:

didnt agree with his reaction. i can understand he was upset he must have been told he was gunna be subbed i mean fergie told sky sports that owen was coming on he dosent normally do that. i think he was more upset that he didnt get as much of the ball as he is used to but we play differently in europe and so far it’s worked. he will be fired up for shitty on sunday bring on tevez. a bit of a boring game. evans had a good game anderson another good game, nani still too greedy. valencia had a good debut in europe not the most comfortable places to begin but he had their left back chasing after him all night and good ball into nani in the build up for the goal. still hate the fact people still harping on about scholes and giggs is age any prem player will kill to have to the skill and class that they have now

  42. SteRDLK says:

    Mountain out of a molehill.

  43. manutdchampions2008 says:

    SteRDLK
exactly they are making mount everest of of a small hill its pethetic, rooney showed he cared about not coming off. but I wish fergie would stop using the 1 man upfront.

  44. King Eric says:

rachelreddevil – Are you a new poster?

  45. rachelreddevil says:

    YES I AM

  46. King Eric says:

    rachelreddevil – Welcome!

  47. RedDeviled Egg says:

I find it funny that when Ronaldo pulled this stunt everyone thought he was the biggest jackass/baby/poor-sport in the game.
Rooney does it and he’s applauded for being ‘determined/fiery/passionate’
What a bunch of bullshit. I don’t like either of them doing this. It’s unproffesional and it really shows just how childish these guys can be.
If I did this at my job I’d be getting my walking orders immediately.
“What do you mean you won’t let me work on that big account” **throw a water bottle, swipe a suit jacket, sit and pout** hahaha goodbye

  48. manutdchampions2008 says:

    RedDeviled Egg
are you blind look how rooney was not happy and how ronaldo was unhappy being subbed was both very different reactions. ronaldo acted like such a little child rooney only slightly lost it he only slammed the watter bottle on the floor when he was sitting down and he never did it in anyones faces unlike ronaldo. while ronaldo snatched the towel out of the trainers hand and went around having a right hissy fit rooney did not.

  49. RedDeviled Egg says:

    manutdchampions2008,
Would your boss be happy with you if you did that at your office?
I’m not impressed with either of them. boo hoo you got subbed off. It’s best for the team. We have City to look at on the weekend!!
Giving Owen a run out was important too. The guy can’t sit on the bench all the time and then be expected to bag goals when he gets 5 minutes at the end of a game. Rooney needs to accept this.
No I’m not blind. 20/20 son

  50. manutdchampions2008 says:

rooney showed he cared and with this idiotic system fergie persists I cant blame rooney, andwhen united have lost their best attacker they should be having has many attacking players playing as much has possible. look at how the spanish teams take out teams no messing about attack and take them out as fast has possible.

  51. jimmy bob says:

It;s hard to knock this 4 5 1 system in europe.
2 finals in 2 years and an away win yday but we do looker stronger when we play 4 4 2 and go at teams

still fergie knows his stuff and i won;t question the great man

  52. fooart9 says:

    stone cold fabio…hahahaa…
    make my day
