Fergie: Rooney Will Hit Form For Sunday

Wayne Rooney has struggled for goals and good performances over the past few weeks, with last night’s defeat against Cluj the latest example, but the manager reckons Rooney will play better on Sunday against Manchester City.

“Wayne has another 90 minutes under his belt and hopefully by Sunday he is in real top form,” said Ferguson. “He is approaching that now but Sunday will be a different kettle of fish altogether.”

Rooney tends to play well and score against City, so here’s hoping he plays out of his skin on Sunday. We’re going to need him to!

Some bwin bets for the game:
Fergie to tap his watch in second half injury time (90 mins or later) – Yes: Evens
Man Utd to score in injury time – Yes: 5/1
Tevez to be sent off – Yes: 10/1
RVP to score more goals than Aguero – Yes: Evens
Rooney to score more goals than Tevez – Yes: 11/10

Last night was a strange game – nothing to gain and it showed. No wide men to supply the forwards with crosses and no midfield to thread balls through, just lacked ideas. Would have been a different game if we needed the win. Good to see the Rentboys score six and still go out

  3. keegan4england says:

My Fear is no Anderson or Cleverley. This means a slow tempo’d midfield with carrick, Scholes and Fletch. My fears are that we will be overrun in the middle. Rooney will drop, leaving RVP alone up front. A draw looks like our best outcome. Cant see us winning, although the last two seasons have seen some crazy results.

Any news on the valencia injury?

Wayne has another 90 mins under his belt & will be better for sunday????
whats going on with Rooney 250k a week and hes not fit!! get the twat out of the club.
the way hes playing he looks like he is not interested.

I will never forgive him…………people need to wake up, rooney has been shite for a while now.

  5. mara says:

If we win we would be 6 points ahead wich is comfortble position for second part of season…

  6. keegan4england says:

@Mara – no such thing as a comfortable position. I’ll remind you of our position last season when we were 8 points clear in March.

  7. Dela says:

@lawman10 –> Siiiiiigggghhhh…. same old tune. Rooney has been one of our best players this year by far, just because he hasn’t been slamming goals (which is all some “fans” notice) into the net doesn’t mean he’s playing badly. When he’s not in the United team, we quite clearly miss his presence terribly. And yes he makes that 250k per week out of the millions upon millions his name alone has earned for the Glazer family. Get over it, he’s not your girlfriend.

  8. Costas says:

Funny, I thought Rooney wasn’t at the stage where he still needed games.

Either way, just playing Rooney isn’t enough. We have to play him centrally as well. He’s just about useless on the wing.

  9. Dela says:

@Costas –> Yep, so true, was annoyed last night when he kept showing up on the wing for the crosses, and Buttner put in a few decent crosses but a lot of useless ones too. But neither are wingers and while Rooney can play well on the left at times, he’s not the same impact there since Ronnie left. I’m hoping against City we can play two wingers (what’s the story with Valencia??) so Rooney can play a central attacking role just off RvP, and ahead of Fletch and Carrick. He could do damage there, even if he doesn’t score it will give City’s center halves something to worry about whenever he picks up the ball because he’s not afraid to belt one from distance… even though they so often are way off target, the defense will still have to come close him down.

  10. Nairobired says:

I’m no coach, but i can tell u this for free. No he won’t. He is not about to hit a purple patch where we’ll see his best united performance. Infact i suspect we’ll see the an inspired performance and good work rate and drive but nothing we have not come to expect from wayne. He’s not been scoring as much mainly due to his playing position but he has been driving the team forward positively. Thats what i expect from him. This is not a bad thing actually, coz whenever he is leading the scoring charts for us , we tend to win SFA. Depending on how city setup and their midfield, he could have a very good game where he controls everything or he could be subdued.
City, despite what scaremongers will have you believe are not having a good time. They are not playing as well as they were last season and i doubt they’l be giving anyone a thrashing. Their midfield and passing is slow, the link up between mid and attack is very laboured and they struggle to get anything going against a good passing team. Their defence was also shit a few weeks ago but they have improved but it’s certainly not rock solid.
It could go either way and it’s finely poised but while last years city would have relished this years united defence, i dont think current city have the ability to exploit it. With players like rvp, roonie and chicha we crtainly giv them something to think about and if they are naive at the back and come at us guns blazing, they may be in for a rude shock as chelsea found out.

That’s true yep. I’ve seen a lot of their games this season and their midfield is really after slowing down. Their build up is very labored too. They have pulled more than a few games out of the fire. I’m surprised they haven’t lost yet. They will treat the derby like a cup final though, they really will not want to go 6 behind, even if it is just December, and they are playing at home. Still, they definitely aren’t the same team that came to OT just over a year ago, and while we’re hit with injuries again, we’re not in the same position as we were and hopefully this time, we won’t fucking go down to ten men!!!!!!

  13. Costas says:

    @Dela

To be fair to him, he has put in some very good crosses this season (as well as corner kicks!). He’s probably been our best crosser of the ball this season. However we can’t keep playing someone on the wing just for that reason. Especially Rooney, who can have a big influence on things playing in the centre.

Valencia I believe has (or had?) a lingering hip problem. Someone speculated that it might have played a part in his average crossing and that could be the case. The last I heard, he would return to training this week. I hope he does. Would I like to see him start though? I am torn about that actually. I am starting to wonder if the diamond is the most suitable formation for this game. City have a narrow midfield themselves so it would be wise not to stretch ours too much.

That last was in case there wasn’t enough worry on the line.

The lads need to step up. I actually was very pleased that we were able to rest our entire first string defense. Feel that Rafael, Rio, Evans, Evra will be our back line and Carrick will be back to his stand in front of them.

Loved the comments from former red Brian Greenhoff yesterday
“The derby was a game that you played for the bragging rights, you played for the fans.”

Hope we play like that on Sunday. Players have to have some pride in the shirt! Come on then

  16. Rednemz says:

Their defense hasn’t been that solid and we should have out tactics right and attack them. Last season we got the tactics wrong and we were well laid….with the firepower we have, we should be able to keep them running down for their money.

  17. TC says:

    @dasilvatwins

I still have some hope Fergie is messing with everyone and Ando and Cleverly will pop up out of nowhere to start.

Back on planet earth, Jones could provide some of andersons drive and fletcher cleverly’s energy. Not ideal I know, but it beats starting Giggs and Scholes. It’s probably too soon for the likes of Tunniclife and Powell.. but hey, if they’re good enough, they’re old enough!

Could always bring on Scholes to take control in the last 20, Hernandez to stretch tired legs and Valencia (here’s hoping) to get at their full back! Rooney/Welbeck could then get out left and pressure that side leaving plenty in the middle in either RvP or Chicarito; whoever’s on at the time.

  18. Nairobired says:

    @dela @costas
Recent injury events will definitely play a part. Tevez n aguero are extremely dangerous when they have the ball in and around the penalty box. City usually go with two upfront and a third player, usually silva moving the ball from mid and playing just behind the top 2 but slightly on the left. He however has freedom to roam in the space between attck and mid and has the ability to provid quick intricate passes to open up a defence. However, reports are that he may miss the game, and without silva Out there has been no one to replace him. This usually sees tevez drop back to midfield and this by itself nullifies city’s attack since they are unable to get enough quality players in the box. But, united also have their midfield injury problems and are in a position where they may be forced carrick, scholes/giggs. This combination has been the cause of all goals conceded that could have, and should have been stopped by a midfielder. They may offer a lot when he have possesion but they are very porous when they opposition have the ball. if one of city’s midfielder steps up then city may control the game for long periods. And that situation for me is where the game will be won. If united can have someone to track runners in midfield and stop city’s flow then we win. I have no doubt of our scoring capabilities, we sometimes dont even need midfielders to help our attackers. Rvp, roo and chicha have shown they can score as long as you get the ball forward.

All I want on Sunday is for us to play with passion and pride. The result will take care of itself if we play with urgency and passion right from the opening whistle.

  20. dasilvatwins says:

TBH if they play with heart and drive they can beat man city, form is thrown out the window, i reckon they just need the inner belief, and someone ( not mike phelan) needs to remind them that they are playing for manchester united!

  21. belfast red. says:

Id love to see a 442 against shitty. With the midfield consisting of rooney and either fletch or Carrick i knw its sacrificing wazza but he wil track bck and has mre pace wen going forward. If tonyv is still out id put Rafael on the right and young on the left. The bck 4 then pics itself with evra rio evans and Jones or smalling on the right.

  22. Proverb says:

Great players also need good players around them to perform, an disjointed team will never get the best out of rooney
We need a strategic and a very good system to get the best out of our forwards.
Rooney’s not a midfielder he’s meant to be shite when played out of position, not only power and strength is needed to succeed in central mid field. You need be technically sound, and that’s not you always get from rooney. His first touch is terrific but can only be useful up top to take away the marker

You also need some trickery up your sleeve or as I said be technically good to be able to kill the ball with your first touch and not needing to make up for it by taking n players
All that trying to say that wayne is being wasted big time

    @ Fletch,
I also didnt like the comments of ‘best results ever’, seems we have gone down.

  34. Marq says:

…or Toure not to show up.

  36. meatnpotato says:

What’s wrong with fergy saying it will be one of our biggest ever wins? Our most hated club who are the best they’ve ever been and who crushed our hopes in the last second of last season and now we have a chance to get one over them at the emptihad (where they havent lost in like 40 games or something stupid) to put us 6 points clear and edge us a little closer to getting our title back and sweet revenge. I’d say it is 100% one of our most important games ever. The fact that SAF knows how big of game this is can only be good he will have the team right up for this one

  37. Red Robin says:

That’s only one of Fergie’s mind game. That was what Bobby Manc kept doing last season. Fergie is just taking his revenge. :D

Shitty looked ridiculous this season so far. I have read somewhere that they have lost leaderships after De Jong was being sold to Milan and Micah Richard is suffering injury. Anyone who watched them against Everton will sense it. They are bunch of merceneries without a leader. Moreover, their tactics were spotted easily during their european campaign by the likes of Maurinho and Klopp. I put my rolex watch that Fergie can crack Mancini tactics this coming sunday. This particular derby will be a killing punch for shitty if we can win it.

    Come on you Reds!

  38. kk says:

people have some faith and be positive. Despite the loss we are the form team in terms of results and we get results when we have needed to except at Norwich where a win would have helped us pull away further by now.
The manager will figure something out. I am just disappointed as I was waiting for Anderson to put Yaya in his place. Yaya has guile, technique and power and I thought Anderson would have matched him.
Will the comparison with other teams stop? It is always Barca, Madrid. Barca did win the title last season and Real started their league defense poorly, why arent you giving United the support?

  39. Wee Toms Ligaments says:

Unless Valencia is healthy, Rooney will start in midfield. Young on the other wing. Scholes, Carrick, and Fletcher in the middle.

I do so hope that aim is to play for a win and not a draw. City can be harrassed and they buckle under high pressure. The game appears to be there to win. Hope United press like they did at Stamford Bridge. All three points if they do.

  40. FletchTHEMAN says:

In my view City are there for the taking.

Every team in the CL figured them out and so have a smattering of league teams as well. High tempo pressing really puts City off their game. They only do well when teams allow them to set up shop inside the final 3rd. Their defense isn’t all that, even with BestKeeperTM in the world Joe Hart (who ain’t all that).

    NO Scholes, NO Giggs.

Otherwise, I’d go with a 3-man midfield: MIchael Carrick in the sweeper role with MrJones and DarrenFletcherinho ahead of him. I’d also designate MrJones to play man-on-man against GreatBigHugeYaYa and Fletcherinho to do the same with David Silva – these are the two guys who drive their team. Press them backwards – that’s what Dortmund did with great success. IF Fletcherinho can’t last the full 90 minutes then I’d bring on BigManSmalling and move RedRafa into that role.

Upfront, I’d go with DannyTheLad with TheWayneBoy behind RVP – Chicharito could be a 65th minute sub.

Denton Davey’s right, please NO Giggs or Scholes. It worries me to hear Fergie going on about ‘experience’ as it’s often been the older palayers who have switched off at set pieces or given the ball away far too casually in dangerous areas, as Scholes did again in the lead-up to the Cluj goal. Giggs seems determined to flick at everything and give it straight to the opponent with the most room to use the ball.

And yes, let’s get Welbeck on from the start, as he’s one of the best at holding the ball up so it doesn’t just come pinging back. He’s good at chasing and harrying defenders and making space, and his goal-scoring touch will surely return when he’s had a decent run of games. I love Chicharito but I think he would be ideal as our main impact sub, a role he does to perfection, although I can see a case for swapping him and Welbeck as Chicha’s all-round game is improving almost by the week.

Welbs is a local lad so he’ll be really up for this one. Big matches often bring the best out of him, as we’ve seen with England, where he combines well with Young, who showed flashes of form v Reading. I know Young has only been a shadow of the flying winger who began so well last season but he’s a good player and one day he’ll surely get his game back.

I’d also like to see Jones in midfield as he brings power, urgency and drive wherever he plays, and he can tackle. He’ll never give up, an attitude we will need.

No one of knows who’s really injured, but I will be surprised if we see Valencia, Anderson , Clverely or Kagawa, which is a real problem, especially as Nani’s definitely out for a while more (he’s had some of his better games against City).

The big imponderable is where Rooney plays. I’m not keen on him wide right. Although his crossing has been good this season, that’s mainly from corners or when engaging in forward rotation in and around the box with Van Persie and others. It’s that sort of relentless switching of position we need, requiring lots of energy and spirit as well as all the skill and I’d like Rooney’s physical presence in the middle.

I think Van Persie could be crucial. City have never faced him with United, so they have no experience of what it has taken for the Reds to out-score everyone else, with goals throughout the team on their way to the top of the table. Van Persie has brought some of that fluidity to the front line, and we should play to that strength – it scares opponents who know he can conjure a goal out of nothing.

  64. Pratyush says:

If Rooney, after being injured for a month, tops the league assists’ charts, I’m more than happy.

  65. samuel - united WE stand says:

Denton – at this rate, all brazilians will end up at stamford bridge or PSG. Their excuse seems to be “i’m joining fellow brazilians” explains why moura trundled off to paris. Looking at fernandinho and if there’s any concrete truth in it, he seems city bound even though they don’t need him. Buy for the sake of having more money than everyone else.

  66. Redbilly says:

@wayne- I was surprised by the level of anger re last night. The risk of simply treating it as gametime for some of the rusty squad members and a workout for Rooney , versus the dent to the ego of losi g to them was, to me. Self evident. I thought SAF. Played it right. If he really wanted to win it regardless of risks he would have .

More of an extended training run , no more no less.

  67. denton davey says:

Giles Oakley @ 18:02: “The big imponderable is where Rooney plays.”

I’d reckon on him starting the match in one of two roles: either the one in a 4-3-1-2 in which case his energy and roaming nature (aka “positional indiscipline”) can be a strength OR else as one of the two tucked between the midfield-three and RVP (or, just maybe, DannyTheLad) in the lone-striker role.

My preference would be the second option – I like the way that Danny presses the ball and I think that both RVP and TheWayneBoy have the in-game knowledge and experience to drift back-and-forth.

ManShitty like to play through the middle and that’s why I’d want to clog up the middle – pressing both GreatBigHugeYaYa and David Silva with man-markers – and make them force the ball wide to their full-backs.

The other issue facing UTD is either defending against the pair Argentine water-bugs or else having to deal with Balotelli’s muscularity (I know that Aguero gets credit for the winning goal at the end of the QPR match but if you watch it again they you’ll see that SuperMario’s work in getting the ball to Aguero was the critical element in that goal). I reckon that either Rio/Jonny can deal with Dzeko’s aerial threat.

These big matches never turn out the way one might predict – or, rather, form might suggest. SAF is clearly talking up a draw; Mancini is cautious and probably hopes to win by sneaking one goal and then shutting-up-shop. BUT if there is any predictability in this match then it’s going to be really boring for about 65 minutes as both teams feel each other out while maintaining a tight defensive shape.

  68. samuel - united WE stand says:

The thing with jones as a midfielder is his positioning, reading of the game and distribution of the ball. In that central area, the heart beat of the team, united can’t afford poor play as it can impact on the team. Jones has all the energy, power and tackling but has he got composure and calmness required in such a crucial position? I don’t think he does at this moment, i think.playing him there is an unfamiliar role. City have plenty of clever players (Silva, nasri, tevez), they’ll be looking to drop into that pocket of space and dictate play, my worry is jones (who is clearly a centre half) hasn’t got the awareness to snuff danger out. His barnstorming runs can rival yaya’s but let’s not forget toure is an accomplished all round midfielder, playing jones there would be a massive gamble. You wonder if he has it in him to carry out that role.

I personally would rather promote central midfielders from the U21′s, pairing them with experienced players who will guide them rather than playing a right back or centre back there. Experience can be valuable but it can also be overrated. For example, if you have all the “know how” but.lacking the right physical endurance to match it then it’s pointless. We need promote these younger players before they see the grass greener somewhere else. I remember arsenal throwing cesc fabregas in against juve at 16 and although he’s obviously one of those rare talents, they’ve benefited. Petrucci is fucking 20 and he should be pushing for the first team.

  69. fergie is the boss says:

FletchTHEMAN – I do think fergie has got a few things wrong over the past few years, blindly not investing in the midfield, not really sorting out the defense in the summer. I do think he has got the GK situation dead wrong, lindergaard is a very average GK, not once does he come off his line, he was awful at the weekend, when ever DDG has played recently, he has been top draw, so I have no idea how lindegaard has sneaked ahead of DDG. It is worryingly we are seeing fergie really getting the squad wrong, and the thought of either scholes or giggs playing really concerns me. Heck the state, of united’s 3 PL defeats this season, its been when either scholes or giggs have started games

  70. Warwick says:

The high points of last night for me was the person behind me saying, “They’d have to be a gazelle to get that pass” wtf!!! And when the announcer said the attendence, despite the many, many empty seats, was 71,000, the Stretford end started with, “71,000, you’re havin a laugh’” and then “we’re man united, we’ll count what we want”

  71. Warwick says:

Back on Topic – Rooney looked distinctly podgy again last night – certainly not fit

  72. mansuy united says:

bugger off lawman. root for the reds or don’t. simple as that. Rooney is a red. can’t get over your girlfriend taking a long glance at brad pitt 3 years ago? those are your problems.

Rooney and RVP to fire us to glory! Evans to crunch Tevez’s brittle spine.

  73. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

    Talk is cheap.
Rooney has done NOTHING to impress in any big game for a LONG time.

Lets just see if Wayne is world class in a big game shall we – There isnt a precedent to suggest he will boss this game or dribble past three players and smash it in.

Now I will sit back and get called a troll, not a true red, go support another team etc etc etc

I will say it again, talk is cheap so shut up Fergie and lets see how tactically astute you are – or are not.
I wonder which players will be played out of position or if he sets us up for a cowardly draw again just like last year only to end up losing.

Blah Blah Blah – Wayne this, Wayne that…….

If you want to hear the name of a player who ACTUALLY can win a big game and has done consistently then look to Robin Van Persie – the slender skilful athlete not the fat wig wearing has been that doesnt even come back from the off season anywhere near fit to perform and I havent seen anything to set the world alight so spare us this Rooney Myth – Its bullshit.

  74. samuel - united WE stand says:

Rooney’s record at united, putting him fourth on all the time list. Numerous of assists and match winning displays would beg to differ. Rooney may be prone to gaining weight (due to his biological make up) but he has developed into that world class all round talisman. Of course you wouldn’t know that because you rant on like a dog who has had his bollocks tasered, there is little facts in what you have to say.

  75. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

    Statistics belie the facts.
Scoring half a dozen against some pub team or taking every penalty and getting all the free kick chances really deceive us.

Let me put it as simply as this – When did he last score a great goal or an important goal in a big game……………………. and after you have mentioned “the City goal” when was the last time before that.

You keep kidding yourself that those many many tap ins against Reading and the like confirm that he is “World Class” – In fact, if I was picked for EVERY United game and the manager said give EVERY ball to me and let me take EVERY penalty and EVERY free kick – Even I would have a reasonable “Statistics”

Talk is cheap and statistics are bullshit – if you believe statistics, Bebe has a great goals per game ratio.

  76. Pratyush says:

    SHINJI THE NINJA –

Rooney leads the assists’ tabel in the entire league, which consists of your ‘more skillfu players’ such as Silva and Mata and Hazard. So please look up you facts before mindlessly slating a player. Noob.

  77. Pratyush says:

And I’m pretty sure that everything goes through Silva and Mata and Hazard in their teams too.

You are basically saying that Rooney has the ball all the time, and has decent resulting stats, but is not influential or useful.

Please think about what you say before you say it. Your rants make no sense and you contradict yourself.

If you expect people to take you seriously, speak sense.

  78. Pratyush says:

And if you do not believe stats, what do you believe? Stats are the most objective form of judgement. If you disregard stats, I can say Messi is useless, because everything goes through him at Barca too. He takes nearly every penalty, nearly every free kick too.

But stats are bullshit, as you say. Therefore Messi is useless too. I like your logic.

  79. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

“And if you do not believe stats, what do you believe? ”

I go to the games so I believe what I see.

As regards Messi, Ronaldo etc – Whatever the stats say I can look at those two players, seeing as how you mention them, and I see them grab games by the scruff of the neck, run past players and score amazing goals week in week out, I see them score important goals in massive games and I see them do it time and time and time again.

I see a fat scouser in a wig blowing out of his arse and looking very fucking ordinary when I look at Wayne Rooney.
If Messi or Ronaldo were playing on Sunday for either team then that team would be incalculably better. I am not sure Rooney would get picked for City – I really dont think they would want him.
We played our bset football this year without Rooney – I know because I was there and I watched it.
Dont know what statistis back that or disprove it.
If Im wrong and you`re right then Rooney will boss the game, create a bagful of chances and bang in a couple for good measure.
I guess we will soon see.

  80. samuel - united WE stand says:

His personal hate for rooney and obvious idiocy clouds his judgement. Looking through your logic, it clearly is not football related.

If it was up to you, the entire league would be filled real madrid, milan, barca e.t.c, variety of teams which still brings competitiveness in the premier league is what makes it intriguing. Claiming any team at this level is a “pub team” sums up your simple knowledge of the game and a truly harsh underestimation of teams that aren’t in the highest echelons. Your logic of “pub teams” would mean all great players would have vast majority of their career goals slashed off, as according to you, they were against incompetent teams.

And i’m guessing tap ins don’t count? What happened to a striker being praised for their movement and finishing? It may look easy to tuck the ball in the net but players work hard to have that extra yard on the defenders, clearly rooney has done a lot of work and reaping the rewards.

Statistics do not lie in terms of the fact that rooney is the fourth top scorer of all time for united, it’s a fact and at 27 added with his talents and hopeful desire, anyone would hope he surpasses sir bobby (obviously, you wouldn’t wish him well as clearly your agenda isn’t football related. In fact, i’d question your knowledge of the round ball game).

You claim to have the ability to knock goals in if offered the services handed out at united but why have you not carved out a football career?. You ramble on aimlessly like a muppet, we’ve had this rooney discussion before but it seems your time of the month and you’re out all emotional again.

No player or manager is perfect, rooney or fergie certainly have faults in what they do, they’re not immune to criticism but not absolute crap that can’t be backed up.

  81. United Till I Die says:

Fair enough last night didn’t matter but only fans can say that. Any player who left the pitch feeling carefree shouldn’t be here. I’d imagine the dressing room was told that.

Still think Ferguson is repaying loyalty to Giggs and Scholes btw. I doubt either would be here if we retained our Title, and I won’t be surprised if they continue to start all season.

As for the selection for City, im hoping Fergie is playing his cards close to his chest with this one and we’ve got at least one surprise for Sunday. Thats not asking too much surely?

Bragging rights aside (yeah right) a draw would be good enough. It IS easy to get carried away with the negatives lads – but we’re not sitting top of the league for no reason.

On the other hand, if we do set out to share the points with City we’ll lose. United don’t know how to play for a draw imo, and I just hope “we’ve” learned that lesson from last season.

Either way we’ve got the players to win this match. Thank fuck for Carrick.

  82. fergie is the boss says:

the stat of when either scholes and giggs have played, has been during the 3 PL defeats is a real indication on how the team is handicapped with one of these 2 playing, love scholes and giggs, but they are past it. Now we go into Sunday with one of these guys playing, its going to be a long day.We are already leaking goals for fun, we add one of these 2 playing, we are not going to have the mobility to get about the pitch, carrick is not the most mobile of players, so fergie better think before playing one of these 2.

  83. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

Games played Goals Assists Total Contribution
    Rooney 34 27 4 31
    Ronaldo 38 46 12 58
    Messi 37 50 16 66

here are the stats for last year seeing as how they mean so much – seems you do get a better return out of Messi and Ronaldo when they have everything played through them………….. just sayin`

    Source http://thinkfootball.co.uk/archives/3568

  84. fergie is the boss says:

SHINJI THE NINJA – rooney is key to this team,he makes the team tick, you have kagwa has your username, have you seen the way he has played for united. So do not dish players who are actually key to this squad, rooney is perhaps the most important player, and the link up play between RVP and rooney has been terrifying.

  85. Pratyush says:

Best football without Rooney? We lost to Norwich when he wasn’t playing.

Ofc any team would be better with Messi and Ronaldo. They’re the world’s best players. However, your denigration of Rooney is senseless, because outside of those two, he is currently the best at what he does. He can play nearly anywhere, and he doesn’t ever complain. He doesn’t the team to be based around him, unlike Ronaldo.

Rooney is arguably better than Aguero, and definitely better than clown Mario and Dzeko and Mr. Troll Tevez. The only other player in the world (outside of Ronaldo and Messi) close to Rooney’s level atm is RvP. And guess what? Rooney has provided at least 4 assists for RvP’s goals this season.

Rooney would walk into ANY team in the world. Ask the coaches what they think of him, and you’ll understand why is he is regarded so highly.

  86. fergie is the boss says:

I do not care about messi and ronaldo, we have rooney, and that is good enough for me. Yes he has only scored 5 goals this season, but he drops deeep, his energy to cover the midfield, and his ability to create and defend is key to the squad. No one in the united squad offer what rooney offers, he is a unique type of player, RVP and hernandez may have scored allot of the goals, but the way he fits the united jigsaw is just has important. So instead of bashing rooney, what he brings to the team is just has important

  87. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

samuel – united WE stand says

Personal insults time is it ?

Good for you mate – you can love Rooney all you like and you can choose to be deluded but believe me, he is at best mediocre and you will see that again on Sunday when he does nothing of any consequence unless we are awarded a penalty that he may or may not score.

I watch Rooney every week and he is not a very good player. He doesnt do anything remarkable and he does nothing entertaining since he was about 19 – 20 years old. Or did I miss something special ?

  88. Pratyush says:

SHINJI THE NINJA – Do you really think that Ronaldo or Messi would come that close in the EPL? La Liga and the EPL are completely different beasts.

  89. fergie is the boss says:

for a shit playe that has scored 36 goals in 2 years, WOW he is a shit player aint he

  90. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

” Rooney would walk into ANY team in the world. ” hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaha

Thats great – OK tell me who you are dropping from Real Madrid, Borusiia Dortmund, Barcelona, Man city even ??

If he is THAT good, thank fuck he`s playing for us on Sunday we CANT lose – he`s gonna single handedly stop them scoring, score goals at the other end and create a load of nailed on chances.

Its a big important game so I guess Wayne will rise supreme then.
    Nah, not fucking buying it,.

  91. Pratyush says:

Rooney miles better than Bezema/Higuain, David Villa/Sanchez and Lewandowski.

  92. mansuy united says:

Shinji the Ninja– Talk is cheap indeed. Yours is particularly bargain basement. Wayne does have a lot to prove, but you really seem out to get him. Facts are facts, and I get that, but your posts really exhibit contempt for the little Shrek.

Need you forget the bicycle kick? Need you forget his stellar performance against AC Milan years ago? Shall I go on? No, I don’t think I will–because you go to the games. You must still have drool on the front of your kit from watching some of his link up play with Ronaldo. Recently, his form has dipped, but he’s still a great player. He’s finding himself in a new role, as it seems he does every season–that’s not easy to do. Have some faith in the lad!

  93. fergie is the boss says:

Pratyush – we would not need Bezema/Higuain, David Villa/Sanchez, because we have RVP, which makes rooney even more key, because of the type of player he is

  94. samuel - united WE stand says:

Only an idiot would compare ronaldo and messi, two rare phenomenons in their own right with rooney, who is still amongst other world class players and a key man.

  95. Red Robin says:

    Shinji the troll

No one ask u to fuckin buy it mate.

Now, change ur fuckin username because u bring such an embarassment to our japanese midfielder.

  96. samuel - united WE stand says:

Football is a team game and if united fail to fire on all cylinders against city then fault should sensibly at every players’ feet. To assume or expect rooney to dominate city, on a ground they have not lost in 53 premier league games is laughable. At best, a draw would do for me as it’s a difficult game. The chances of bossing city is less and even more less is rooney dominating the entire game by himself, united would have to play well collectively.

  97. Pratyush says:

    Fergie is the boss –

I know mate, I was just replying to Shinji the noob’s question about who would RM, Barca or Dortmund drop to acommodate Rooney.

As I said before, Rooney woul walk into any team in the world.

  98. Marq says:

Answer this question. Are you a United fan?

  100. tom c says:

now, I’m not saying I wouldn’t bring either of Messi or Ronnie onto this team, because I would in a heartbeat, but the way our team is set up at the moment I wouldn’t drop Roo for anyone.

  101. Man_1 says:

Shinji The Ninja talks sense and all other guys do the same. I think he is a little worried about the Rooney’s form which everyone of us has concerns too. Rooney is great player though not in Messi, Ronaldo league but we have to support him and hope this time will pick his form on this derby game. We have to attack them. Fergie showed weakness last year by going there for a draw with his strange line up. We need to atack atack atack…. Come on United!

  102. dee says:

whao reading through all the comments on the blog and no one says we’ll surprise shitty and win there.cmon where’s the spirit.we should hope our boys can raise our game big time and break the stupid record shitty have at ethihad.lol everyone is settling for a draw.
granted our boys aren’t playing proper footy but i have the feeling its gonna be who can score more.our defense is shiiiit but we’ve got rvp and rooney our 2 saviors this season.
    1 united.

Well…i guess we need to wait and see what Rooney does on Sunday

  110. Redial says:

If SAF plays for a win and we attack them with some verve come Sunday, we’ll be 6points clear at the top of the league at the end of the day.
True. Shity have a good record at their home-ground, but I really think we can fuck them over this time if we are positive in our play. Really, yaya toure doesn’t seem to be as good as he was last season and their defense is not exactly formidable this season too. Their player who can hurt us the most imo is silva, and I know SAF will find a way to deal with the threat he poses. Nasri or whoever plays on their LW should have somnolent game in Rafael’s pocket.

  111. Proverb says:

This fuckers were slating wazza long before he even got injured
When he’s on form they jump the wagon to other closest candidates, now that carrick is playing well young becomes the victim and on…

  112. andromeda says:

I already feel the heat of the derby from now O_o.

Surprisingly though and with our injury problems and defensive cumbersome, I can still smell a sounding glory for the red devils.perhaps for many reasons, the most pertinent one is our motivation this season to get revenge, and as we all know the Fergie’s motivation to take over any rival manager is far superior to anyone else on this planet.another factor is our potent strike force, unlike last season the presence of RVP has changed everything, his record is there I don’t need to mention it, but one thing for sure, the guy has scored goals against the like of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal so he has no problems at all scoring against city at Etihad stadium, moreover we have a golden substitute in Chicarito who can score from a half chance within a blink of eye.Rooney can both play the role of supporting striker and midfielder and he is starting to hit his top form again. Welbeck is a fantastic runner and I would like to have him pressing City defenders, but sometimes he lacks the brain when having the ball, hopefully he will improve that aspect of his football with more games on the horizon.another factor is the return of our defenders back, the like of Phil Jones, Smalling and Evans are continually maturing as a central defender, this is a great bonus for the aging Rio and Injured Vida,I don’t know if the latter can make the derby but it seems Fergie wouldn’t risk him for such an intensive encounter. The only problem is our midfield, what sort of lineup and players should we trust to stop the physical nature of yaya and slick talent of Silva?this is a very difficult question for Fergie and perhaps it has caused him many night of insomnia!!but there is something to watch for and be taken seriously, City’s Champions league failure is one very important source of information and spying of how can we adapt and halt the machinery of city’s midfield…I still don’t know what lineup is perfect to hinder City from creating too much chances because I don’t know who is fit and who is injured, the manager was lately has many speculation”mind games” but I am confident he will sort out a way, hopefully with the “right man for the right match” that should be his greatest strategy.and its strange this season, that its either/or for our team, we either lose or win, no draw at all.I kinda feel this derby will end up in draw but I won’t make any serious claim about it because we always try to win and that is in our genes….hopefully the lad will rise into the occasion.

  113. pablo says:

i respect shinjis opinions however i think there are far more concerns with the team at the moment than rooney.on his day he can be world class and i’d rather have him in my team than not.more pressing issues are getting a permanent number one goalkeeper, a regular centre half partnership,a centre half that bridges the age gap between ferdinand/vidic and jones/smalling evans not consistent enough, two
world class midfielders and instilling confidence in ALL our wingers as none seem capable of beating a player or putting in a decent cross at the moment.the thing with rooney is that even if he is having a pretty poor game he is gifted enough to produce a moment that can win you a game.

  114. samuel - united WE stand says:

Man1 – i think you’ll find it’s more than “a little worry” when it comes to shinji and his nemesis rooney. It’s,understandable for fans to be frustrated (we all aren’t robots) criticise, and more importantly constructively express how united can improve and even if we have doubts over a player, we can least give them credit when its due, manchester united doing well is the most important thing, hoping a player, does well should be what we strive for. In rooney’s case, shinji has decided to wipe out any fact that puts rooney amongst the, best players at the, club. His contempt for wayne means he shoves the man’s clear talents to one, disregard his contribitions to the team, drspite evidence showing he’s been a key player. Everyone is entitled to an opinon but don’t for a second assume united fans won’t back up rooney. He may be a scouse cunt but he’s,united’s cunt (excuse the word “cunt”, it just felt good to apply to wayne this early).

I personally don’t see any of the ranting as football, related, it seems a personal/cheap attack.

Finally, i’ve never really directly compared rooney with the likes of messi and ronaldo. Why? Because it’s unfair to do so, they’re both rare talents and as much as the argentine puts out an humble demeanour, he’s just as fiercely driven to be the best player on the planet like ronaldo. Rooney, despite his natural ability, has, always, put the team first. He’s sacrificed the growth of his game for the benefit of the team. Carrying out several supporting roles when he could easily play for himself. His unselfish work ethic has certainly played a slight part in him not reaching the heights of those two but if you magnify rooney’s potential, he does have the ability to at least push the likes of ronaldo, messi, iniesta, xavi e.t.c, he showed it with 35goals season in which he was robbed by that ankle injury, even an half fit rooney during that season frightened bayern in that game and not until he left the pitch due to injury did we succumb to the german’s sucker punches.

Rooney is one of those rare all roubd talents, he plays a drive/determination and imagination like how football should be played, english football will rue the day he packs it in, they’ve not fully appreciated or utilised his talents, they’ve placed unrealistic expectations and pressure on one man. Rooney would be appreciated if he was from another shores, i’m sure of that.

It’s understandable for fans to be frustrated (we all aren’t robots), criticise, and more importantly constructively express how united can improve and even if we have doubts over a player, we can least give them credit when its due, manchester united doing well is the most important thing, hoping a player does well should be what we strive for. I think our wingers are gonna have a dread 2012/2013 season. All that’s needed is for young to flop to the ground and twist something in the process and we’d be without any wingers. Never thought I’d see the day

  122. Proverb says:

The amount of negativity you just can’t know anymore if one is being sarcastic
@slim do you think having all our wingers injured could benefit the team

I really don’t understand when people say Rooney sacrificed his development for the sake of the team, isnt it just a case that the manager finds a new position to play him in when there a better players in the position he otherwise occupies?

Nope, its the other way around

  125. Doug E says:

the way i see it, RVP is a better striker and Chicharito has hit a rich vein of goal scoring form so Fergie sees the need to play Rooney out of position hoping he will hit form at some point. Same thing applies to Welbeck…

  126. Proverb says:

Rooney has been moved to a deeper role because we currently do not have a better attacking mid, since rooney has the capabilities to play absolutely everywhere except goal keeping imo the boss thought it is best occupying the position with our best player even though it means deteriorating his scoring instincts. That’s how I see it pal
Has for welbz, I think its down to his work ethic, that imo earns him a place in the team despite his poor scoring form

  127. Dannythelad says:

Reading that shinja twats posts for the last 10 minutes has made me lose my head…

Didnt rooney last season get a double to beat liverpool, 2 in a win at city (first goal easily one of the goals of season) 3 against chelsea in which he ran the 2nd half comeback…

oh and hatrick against arsenal, 2 against tottenham aswell….

but he is not a big game player he never scores in the big games this is proven as he didnt score against norwich stoke or blackburn last year hahahaha what a wrister!!!!

  128. Proverb says:

    As*..

  129. Proverb says:

Also rooney helps out in defense
If you watch him closely you see he does a lot more than just assist and playmake
He covers every blade of the grass whenever he’s played, that’s quality

  130. Doug E says:

How can we say we say he has the capabilities to play anywhere and at the same time say he sacrificed his development for the team by playing in different positions…isn’t it contradictory?

  131. wayne says:

Costas hi mate and a few days earlier Anti had told me he was a season ticket holder and would be at the QPR game,I guess as soon as QPR scored must have got straight on his phone,he’s just a troll, all those fuckers I mentioned none of them are Utd fans

No mate, its not contradictory as he has produced a lot of assist while playing in that role more than anyone actually, I think he has done better only trolls can say otherwise

  133. Proverb says:

I’d say its sacrificing him and his talent cause he’s much more deadlier in other specific role, know what I mean. That doesn’t take away the fact that he has apparently been awesome even in his less favored position

  134. Doug E says:

We need him to be awesome on Sunday, we seem to be lacking creativity right now

  135. Proverb says:

Well he was awesome vs norwich as we played him in his favored position in the first half, and we had an equally creative MF behind him, that’s what’s hindering his all round game cause we don’t have enough quality in every position to compliment our style of play
Hopefully once everyone is fit we can start showing some balance in our play. Its then where can start questioning our talisman

  136. Proverb says:

Even lio messi struggled to make an impact on wednesday
    I’m you’d of guessed why by now…
It was their team B he was played in and the service wasn’t good enough hence why he came off injured after along time
Vida also sustained his knee injury because of trying too much in basile that can be said of messi, the way I see it contributed

  137. Doug E says:

    Rooney didnt play against Norwich…

Me neither mate. I was worried about going into the season a winger short, but Valencia and Nani are very fit lads. I don’t think we’ve ever witnessed a situation where both were injured at the same time. Maybe in December of 2010 but it was only for a couple of games. This time it could last up to 2 months. Time to put the wingplay on the shelf I feel. Young can play on the diamond anyway and it would help us cope with the losses of Tom and Ando (now those two I could easily suspect getting injured at the same time… ).

    @wayne

Hi mate. Really? That’s hillarious. I guess he was so anxious to troll over here that he forgot his own lies. lol:

  140. WeAreUnited says:

LOOK guys about Rooney, @mansuy united said it best.

“Recently, his form has dipped, but he’s still a great player. He’s finding himself in a new role, as it seems he does every season–that’s not easy to do. Have some faith in the lad!”

Some really have personal issues with Rooney and some don’t appreciate him. I get that, but I don’t get how can’t you see his big goals. For me every assist and every goal that gets us 3 points in the league or CL, is a big game.

Already into this season he has the stats of 4 goals and 7assists. And the assists have been gamewinning assists. You can’t deny that.

But if we want to speak about the “real” games, like it was in Ronaldo’s case every time, for them delusional people.

    2011/2012, 16 goals and 13assists. Only 39 games. That’s 29points in hockey.

2goals against City FACUP, 2goals Liverpool, 2goals Tottenham, 3 goals Chelsea, a hattrick against Arsenal, can’t say anything about CL, cause as a team we were really bad, but he did score 5 goals in europe. All are big games.

    Season 2010/2011 34goals and 5assists -> 42games -> 39points in hockey.

CL Final against Barca, semi-final against Schalke a goal, quarter-finals against Chelski CL a goal, so in the way to the CL final, Rooney helped us and scored 3 goals.
In the league scored against Chelski 1goal, FACUP Arsenal, ManCity the bicycle kick? DO you remember Shinji?

    Season 2009/2010 33goals and 6assist -> 42 games -> 39points in hockey. Got injured against Bayern.

CL: Semi-final against Bayern 1 goal, Quarter-finals 4 goals against the STRONG AC Milan. Without Rooney, we couldn’t manage to go into the final. Though we fought well, but we needed him.

League: 1 goal against Liverpool, 2 goals against Arsenal, Tottenham 1 goal, ManCity 1goal.
In this particular season, he won games for us and scored important goals that are in real life, not only in CL, those goals got us points. ALso he contributed like you can see in CL, but got injured.

As a striker he has done his job, you can see that, when he has played as a second striker or in a different role, the assists are higher, when he’s been a lonestriker his goalrating has been amazing.

So SHINJI and the rest, not saying he is doing extremely well, but even at this point he’s doing very well, cause he has another role.
For me he hasn’t sacrificed anything. SAF wants us to play our 3 best striker together, deservengly so, but as soon as we get all our Kagawas, Nanis and Valencias and maybe midfielders back, Rooney will play as a striker.

But like we can see, our players get injured, and what’s better than our TALISMAN to play in their positions?

    peace.

  141. SHINJI THE NINJA says:

So we accept his very moderate contribution as an “OK” midfielder ? Sorry but if he isnt a striker anymore then he doesnt cut it anymore – He is being shoe-horned into a team that needs somebody MUCH better in the role they are trying to re-invent for him.

There is always an “excuse” attached to Rooney and the fact it is discussed says a lot.
Absolutely nobody I know questions RVPs world class performances and goals and how easily he slotted in to a new club etc but with Rooney there is always an “explanation” needed. Sorry, but he is a million a month to run and we aint getting what we pay for as far as his performance and contribution is concerned whereas RVP is a value for money consistent deliverer of results.

  142. WeAreUnited says:

*Without Rooney, we couldn’t manage to go into the final.

I got blind, and want to corrct that we didn’t go into the final that Season 2009/2010.

Anyway, without him, even though we did well, we missed him, and that stupid Ribery got Rafael red carded and that stupid Robben scored that wonder goal. Anyway..

  143. WeAreUnited says:

    BTW SHINJI THE NEGATIVE PERSON

You never gave me an anwer you season ticket holder.

well he scored 2 against Reading, when it mattered, we got 3 points.

Does those 3 points not matter?

Look not praising him, but he’s a talisman, like it or not. I am not blind and say he’s doing well, which he isn’t, but he is a talisman.

Well SHINJI, your’e always complaining and saying some crazy stuff here, so maybe it’s better that you don’t go and watch the team anymore, cause you only cause negative energy there.

Maybe it’s better when I by United merchandise more than you go and sit there and moan all aroung like a school boy who acts like a first timer. How the hell I could know do you go and watch games,

And how the hell you know my financial reason, why I can’t and don’t go and come there to watch games. It doesn’t make me less or more of a supporter than you. I also have 2 eyes and know how two judge and support a team. Just liek you. The difference. Can’t afford to come every weekend to the UK.

If you are willing, buy me every weekend a ticket my friend, I will come. Then I can call myself a supporter. Right?? Are you willing to pay me every weekend to come and watch a game, if so, I will be happy.

Until then, I support my team via the TV.

  144. King Eric says:

Fuck me. Shinji makes a HUGE point about being a top red as he goes the games!! So do I pal as do many on here. That makes us much bigger fans doesnt it!! Turn it in pal, we KNOW you go the games. Or at least you say you do!!
