Fergie Tells Us His, But What Is Yours?

Lucky as we are, we’ve seen many a great United game whilst Sir Alex Ferguson has been our manager. He has inspired a style of football that dates back to Sir Matt Busby, which has seen us win in entertaining, and at times, dramatic fashion.

Ferguson has today picked his favourite game in all his years as United manager.

“The one that sticks in my mind was when we were at Tottenham in September 2001 and were 3-0 down at half-time,” said Ferguson. “But then we went on to beat them 5-3. It was such an amazing turaround, and the fans played their part too. It was a great game.”

Which is your favourite match under Fergie?

    Barcelona 1999.
Nothing can beat the delirium of the final whistle on that night. One could not have script it better. This was greatest comeback in such an important match. It proved once and for all that it aint over untill is over.

  2. JIM says:

    live roma 7-1
on tele juve second leg 1999 the keano show

  3. traanZ says:

Ten Classic Manchester United Premiership Comebacks

    MUTV video, made my day.

Can’t take my pick, there are lots

  4. TinManUnited says:

Live O5/04/08 4-0 over the scum. Close second Rooney’s goal against Newcastle. Tele, Roma 7-1 only because it was enjoyable throughout the whole game. Not like Bayern 99′ where only about 45 seconds, but that was the most important.

  5. Ella says:

Giggsy’s goal that enabled an FA Cup victory over Arsenal plus the comeback at Juventus inspired by Keano

  6. TinManUnited says:

Sorry that was supposed to be 05/04/03 4-0 over the scum.

There is just so so many… i can go back to 91 ECWC against Barca..

    99 and 08 Champs League Finals…

“Full Steam Ahead Barcelona”… units win against Juve after going 2-0 down..

The game which we beat barca at OT when they had Maradona..

I can go on and on and on… Lee Sharpe hat trick when he hammered Arsenal in the league cup…

I dont know really… another class one was the 3-2 against Citeh, when Keano got the winner…

The result against Arsenal again when we took there unbeaten run off them…

    I cant choose.

Its prob Champs League Final 99… gotta be… coz i was pissed for 8 days after

Agree with Ella, the FACup Replay over Arsenal…..just such an enjoyable match, it had everything with quality goals (Becks and Giggs of course, not lucky deflections) sendings off, tackles flying in, penalty saves. Wow, it gives me a semi just thinking about it…

  10. RedDevil says:

Best game: 7-1 vs Roma, 2007
    2nd best game: Moscow 2008!
    3rd best game: 2-1 vs Arsenal, 1999

  11. DinoTheDog says:

Except for the obvious european finals, the games that spring to my mind are when we beat Arsenal 6-1, the Giggsy goal in the 99 FA cup semi, and the 7-1 against Roma.

Oh, and Cantonas goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup final.

  12. steve says:

I will say the greatest fergie match was the 1991 final against Barcelona just because the quality of the barca side. I am tempted to say the 2008 CL final or the 1999 fa cup semi final against arsenal just because both match’s had everything drama attacking football incidents that changed the face of the game like how the FA cup semi final was the moment when the team truly believed they were going to win the lot but to be honnest all three games were like that. and how drogba’s sending off led to JT be cautious you can slip Lol to miss the penalty.

  13. denton davey says:

    United 7 – Roma 1. A complete master class.

In recent history ,my favorite ones have been
    1:AGAINST chelsea in CL 2008 .
    2:against roma 7-1
3:1-0 against dippers at anfield when our team were under hell of pressure for the whole match but john’o shea won it at the end.

  15. marvsharpe says:

Off the top of my head, the 4-2 win over Arsenal at the Library. Also, the ’99 semi final against Arsenal. That game had everything!

  16. Justin says:

Live – Last home game of the season in 1999 was such a nerve wracking game that kept you hangin on till the end (story of that season)

Tele – Roma 7-1 (CL), Arsenal 2-1 (99 FA Cup Semi), Barcelona (91 CWC)

  17. marno says:

beating everton 4-2 from 2 down on the same day chelsea could only draw.

we went from a goal diff lead to 5 pts clear at the top and looked a sure thing for the title!!!

  18. unitedgirl15 says:

When i was around 11 or 12, iwas at my grandads and United beat Arsenal 4 2 at Highbury i think. I really enjoyed that much.
But my favourites have to be when we beat Arsenal 2 1 at OT. Hargreaves Free kick :) !
    And of course,Moscow!!!

  19. unitedgirl15 says:

I wrote: I really enjoyed that much.

Haha. you know what i mean…

  20. SteRDLK says:

    United 7-1 Roma 2007 CL
    Everton 2-4 United 2007 League
    United 3-1 Benfica 2006 CL
    Arsenal 2-4 United 2005 League
    United 3-0 Liverpool 2008 League

    United 4-0 Wigan 2005 League
United 2-1 Portsmouth 2007 FA Cup
United 2-1 Aston Villa 2007 FA Cup

  21. Gary says:

For me it has to be the fa cup semi final against Arsenal in 99, that game had everything, you went through every single emotion in that match. I have never known a game between the 2 top sides in the country at the time to be 100 mph for the whole course of the match, that game stands out in my memory more than any other.

  22. mannyutd says:

5 – 0 against city, Andrei Kanchelskis hat trick!!!! absolute classic!!

  23. North Stand, Tier 3, Back Row says:

January 1990, FA Cup 3rd round away at Forest, won 1-0, Robins. I dont even want to think where we’d be as a club without that game…
It mightnt exactly be any ones favourite game as such, but without that game, you wouldnt have any of these other fantastic games listed here.

  24. marvsharpe says:

That’s a myth isn’t it, the story about Fergie being sacked if we’d have lost that game? I’ve heard and read alot of things that have rubbish the claims made about him being on his last legs!

  25. Tony_Oldham says:

It has got to be the Juventus 3-2 game at the Delle Alpi, just because if we hadnt come back in that game there is a good chance we could have lost the league and the Fa cup after it. From that game onwards i fully believed we could go on and do the Treble, this game laid the foundations for it all. And this was against a team that including Zidane, the best player i have ever seen come and play at Old Trafford…..

  26. Red-Manc says:

Hmm to many to choose but i’ll pick some recent ones

    7-1 United vs roma (hahahahaha)
1-0 United vs barca (best atmosphere ever at Old Trafford)
1-0 United vs liverpool (WE ALL KNOW THAT JONNYS GONNA SCOREEE)

  27. nagraj says:

The 4-3 win against Madrid at OT. Granted, we were knocked out, but only because of some magical keeping by Casillas and some magical incompetence by Barthez. We were a LOT closer than most people think and on a luckier day, could’ve scored 7-8.
The two best attacking teams in the world at that time…Beckhams last game in the UCL for us…the Ronaldo show (the tranny hunting one)…great night…

    2. 7-1 vs. Roma
    3. 2-1 vs. Bayern
    4. 4-2 vs. Arsenal at Highbury…the Keane Vieira tussle et al.

The 5-3 isnt important because Tottenham are a small club…its like putting that nottingham forrest or the ipswich result in here…

  28. nagraj says:

Plus ALL those times we’ve beaten Loserfool..both convincingly like the 4-0 result that year and the 3-0 last year..the Forlan goals after the Dudek gaffes…and the Ferdinand, O’Shea and Solskjaer last minute goals….

Cantona vs. Liverpool, FA Cup final….
