Fergie: They’d Never Know If I Played Rafael

All week Manchester United fans have been joking about the idea of playing “Fabio” at right back this weekend following Rafael’s suspension.

“I might put Rafael in there,” Ferguson said. “They wouldn’t know. Their DNA is probably the same.”

Rafael has been fined today and warned about his future conduct. United can’t appeal the sending off as you can’t appeal yellow card decisions. Sir Alex is relieved that the FA used common sense (for a change) and did add on a further ban because of Rafael’s reaction to the bad decision made by referee Mike Dean.

“You hope for common sense,” he said. “You hope that prevails. It was a bad decision to send him off. In a big game it can have an impact, especially with 20 minutes left.”

“Their DNA is probably the same”

Well, given that they’re identical twins Fergie, their DNA is definitely the same!

  3. Jeet says:

    Classic!

  4. bubu says:

that’s why u re SIR! SAF.

  5. Kings says:

£8,000 fine. What the fuck? Fuck off FA you fucking cunts.

  6. kanchelskis says:

    Kings

You joking? Rafael probably makes that in a day. It’s nothing.

  7. Costas says:

Bwahaha. He has been dreaming about this ever since he bought the twins. :)

  8. zX says:

offtopic … anybody saw shinji kagawa performance just now for japan versus qatar? he sure captured my imagination playing for United with his display … 2 goals and an assist to top it of …

go on Fergie …sign him up

  9. Ash says:

Maybe we guys are underestimating fabio.Remember he is the one who is said to be better of two and frankly whenever i have seen fabio play for reserves or even for us he has been great.
I said in the start of the season that i would want fabio to play as our left winger.Who knows we may have our own bale or even better ,Remember he is a brazillian and they are always better than others.
    Anyways Sir alex always rocks.

  10. john says:

    @ kanchelskis

No two human beings have the same DNA, not even identical twins.

  11. Ash says:

    Off topic
But for all those who think fergie will sell welbeck should think again as fergie has said that he wont asell danny boy.

  12. Zelh says:

zX – kagawa is playing for Dortmund who ware top of the table and 16 points off bayern munich. Imo bayern is still the top contender for the title.
Teams like Leverkusen or Mainz will have their problems in the second half of the season.

  13. berbatunday says:

they better not add anymore to the injustice. and a good game for he is big, he is bad, he is wesley

  14. Ash says:

    Sorry again off topic
But it was very funny when bolton are asking 20millions for gary cahill.Lol if cahill is for 20 millions then vidic’s value would be more than 40 millions.Seriously there is no value in the market.

  15. zX says:

Zelh … i know he’s on Dortmund payroll … heck, they even quoted 20M if i’m not mistaken … but imo he has all the necessary attributes to be a United attacking midfielder … good 1st touch, visionary passing, quick on the turn, good dribbler and has a very good shooting to top it off … now wonder hes already scored 8 goals for Dortmund …

maybe a bit far fetch but honestly I can see him replacing our legendary Ginger Ninja if given chance to flourish under Fergie’s tutelage…

  16. Paul Parker says:

Lol @ playing “Fabio” at right bacK

On Welbeck, no way we’ll sell him, obviously United is a Global Powerhouse, so both players and supporters come from far and wide… BUT… to have a local M13 lad good enough to lead our front line? You can’t put a price on that mate, a young, hungry, home town striker with bags of pace & ability.

you’d be MAD to sell that, and Alec is no mug.

  17. Zelh says:

zX – dunno if they said something about 20 Mio, but he’s a promising talent.
nobody can replace someone like the ginger prince. Same with players like Zidane or Xavi.
    Irreplaceable.

  18. Paul Parker says:

    @ Ash

“Steve has as much chance of getting me,” Ferguson told Key103, when asked about the possibility of Welbeck joining Sunderland on a permanent basis.

    hahaha, quality.

  19. Whiteside Curler says:

Wonder if the brothers take full advantage of this – one is married the other is single – here Fabio give us the wedding ring, it’s my turn to get some homespun tlc – that’s ok Raf, i’m going on the milf prowl tonight!

  20. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

I’m looking at Shinji Kagawa and I am also thinking if United scouts are looking at him too? He can do quite a lot…

And besides, when Park decides to hang up his boots, United will need someone to sell shirts (/sarcasm)

  21. Ash says:

    @paul parker
Yeah that was quality answer.I think our boss is in a funny mood.First this rafael joke and then danny joke.Good to see fergie enjoying himself
    Absolute legend
    LONG LIVE SIR ALEX

  22. samhill says:

Does anyone know if Fabio can play right-back? I’m sure he’s right footed

  23. Paul Parker says:

GENUIS, THAT BLOKE ALEC IS A GENUIS!

  24. FletchTHEMAN says:

Hope we can put a couple in early so that the lads can relax a bit and maybe we can bring on some of our emerging talent.

@samhill, Would be funny as all to put Fabio at RB just for the mind games. The FA would have to charge Sir Alex for sticking it up them. Really excellent thought. Why arn’t we seeing more of Fabio, that is my question. Think he was injured over the summer, but he has been in the reserves games. Give the lad a run out! Play him in front of Evra on the wing and give Giggs a rest.

  25. hammons says:

he should have never said anything – he could have gotten away with it.

  26. smartalex says:

loserpools director of football admitted “I am surprised in a way, given our results, the number of top level players who want to join us,” Unbelievable.

  27. hundone says:

“In a big game it can have an impact, especially with 20 minutes left.”
I wonder how Spurs fans will take this. :)

  28. Busby babes says:

Could be done gents lol rember the incident last year when united, played barnsley in the league cup and the ref booked the wrong twin. foy i think was the ref.

  29. smartalex says:

Maybe it was Fabio that was sent off against Spurs. The FA has already been duped.

  30. jay says:

Fabio and Rafael are both married but you can tell the difference as Rafael is a bit more bulkier than Fabio. Fergie could do it but both Fabio and Rafael would have to be sworn to secrecy. But Fergie would never cheat.

  31. FletchTHEMAN says:

Fun aside, there is no way in the world that SAF would play an ineligible player. The consequences
would be enormous with the risk of forfeit of the games or worse. He would never let United be put in a position to let the FA have pleasure at our expense. As @jay points out, you can tell the two apart. This banter is all in fun.

    IN OTHER NEWS:
Mourinho (mr big mouth) is tossing his toys from the pram……. again…….again. What a conceited cry baby. Can’t believe the talk that he could manage The United.
Balotelli (mr big mouth Jr) is off to cool his heals and repair his knee in the snowy hills of Vermont. Never like to hear of a player being injured but given his recent lengthy discourse on the quality of our side I do have a thought for him. …… Ha ha ha ha !

  32. RedAllTheWay says:

@John, erm, identical twins do have the same DNA. They have the same genes + all . . . :)

  33. Mancunian says:

Not probably sir, definitely the same.

  34. FletchTHEMAN says:

    VERY VERY IMPORTANT READ (IMO):
Ruud van Nistelrooy rang up the manager and apologized. Never thought I would see the day.
Might have to rethink my recent negative comments to him. I stick by what I said. Yesterday he was a twat, today he has moved up in my estimation.

    All time United Goal Scorers:
    #9 Scholes 150 (still active)
    #10 Ruud vN 150
    #13 WR10 133

At least we have one less prick in the top 15.

  35. Mickjk says:

I pray Fabio plays at RB tomorrow. How hilarious would that be? He could do with some game time too i reckon.

  36. Mancunian says:

The wedding ring on Fábio’s finger is how Ferguson tells the twins apart, with Fábio already married at the age of 18 to 17-year-old Barbara, who relocated with him.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%A1bio_Pereira_da_Silva

  37. obertanthenewstar says:

fabio can play RB, they are both naturally right footed… but can play with left also.. it was said in a article i read ages ago that fabio only plays at left back so rafael could play also… seems like he gave up his natural position for his brother… not bad

  38. CedarsDevil says:

You have to admire the BOSS, not only is he the best football manager to have ever existed he also has a fantastic sense of humour. I watched the interview on tele, cracked me up….

    Long live the BOSS

  39. willierednut says:

CedarsDevil – The boss? Bruce Springsteen? lol.

  40. MG says:

    Ha ha ha

    Funny

Bitched by the gaffer and the truth is no one would ever know

    ;)

  41. khantona says:

He’s definitely right-footed which could be very helpful as a left winger but much less so for a left-back. I just read that Fabio used to play as defensive midfielder for his old club Boa Esperança. Since apparently he’s the more defensive minded twin, wonder why Fergie hasn’t tried him there yet.

  42. khantona says:

For those of you interested in the scientific side of the twin dilemma, here are a few explanations.
Identical twins come from the same fertilized egg and so have originally the same DNA. We’ve known for some time now that even if two people have the same DNA (or genotype), they have different phenotypes, meaning that the same DNA is expressed in different ways, therefore identical twins will have different fingerprints and variations in physical appearance.
Furthermore, our DNA is affected by our environment and goes through mutations so identical twins end up with different genotypes as well. Therefore identical twins do not have identical DNA!

  43. King Eric says:

That Kagawa fella certanly has a good scoring record. 60 goals or summat daft in 160 odd career games for a midfielder. Havent seen him at all so cannot really comment.

  44. Dave Malaysia says:

So that ends the Danny to suderland talk.

Shinji did well ,interesting, wonder if we are really trying for the kid.

No one commented on Eric Dier ,the englishman playing in portugal now on loan to everton.
This kid was linked to us last year. Now we get to see how good he is.

Interesting that pinnear has chosen spurs with a better pay packet than the offer from chelsea.
Spurs are gradually becoming king in london.

  45. smartalex says:

    Thanks khantona, interesting.

  46. KingOfStretfordEnd says:

Actually i find it really easy to differentiate them. Its wierd, but i think Fabio is little more chubbier at the cheeks. Hmm. I never have problems with differentiating twins. :D And i found it wierd that some of my friends had difficulty differentiating phil and Gary Nev? That’s mental.

  47. United says:

I’ve been watching Kagawa for Japan, he is great, him or Keisuke Honda would be EXCELLENT buys, both extremely creative

  48. Benitez's FACT hunt says:

I reckon SAF should take Fabio’s ring off and play him at right back for the last 20 minutes against B’ham after we go 3-0 up. Then sit back and watch the media and the FA go on a wild Goose chase accusing us of cheating and DNA testing the twins… That’d show ‘em.

  49. United1990 says:

LOOOL I don’t care if it’s probably or definitely. In Fergie I believe!! :D

  50. hitz says:

hahahaha .. well he never said about fabio playing as RB .. DNA comment is precautionary before playing ‘rafael as RB in fabio’s shorts’ :-)
