  1. aig alex is god says:

all the best United.hope we take up many such projects and help people who are not as fortunate as us. all of us should fight together against this disease

  2. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

I would doubt very much that nobody on here has a family member or knows someone who has been affected by cancer. There is so much that can be done today that gives hope and help to sufferers but there is so much still to do. It would be great to increase the efforts to find a cure once and for all – what a fantastic day it would be to look at the front page and read ” Cancer cure found” I would even give up all our trophies for this particular cause.

  3. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

In the meantime if they can “cure” Hargreaves knees that would be good enough for this year !

I kept looking for decent articles but youtube only provided something good
personally i look at him as Steven gerrard.(the performance not the face!!)

  5. Always Be Closing says:

Great statement there, regardless of who wrote it. Will be sending a donation across after a little research into the charity.

READ CAREFULLY WHAT I Said – haha, spot on. :D I’d pay a little for that alone, heh.

  6. Sam the kenyan red says:

    What about diarrhoea ??

  7. Rax says:

Great to see United trying to help with something that has affected me and my family personally. Just makes me love our club even more. Hope that more public figures, managers and players, take a leaf out of Sir Alex’s book to increase awareness.
    U – N – I – T – E – D. United are the team for me.

  8. Rax says:

Sam – Lived in Kisumu for 6 months and saw how much of a problem it caused. Hopefully this can kick start something massive, but one cause at a time eh?

  9. Sam the kenyan red says:

@rax eeh kizee kisumu is the worst affected place in kenya….Thats probaly the disease i fear the most…WELCOME MATE!!

  10. zappa says:

Very worthwhile. I will be making a donation too, Rax Said. A few of my family and my best friend have been touched by the big C….
On a lighter note, has anyone out there noticed that the man in the ” go compare” advert (the fat one who sings) looks a helluva lot like one Rafa B. Is he practicing his Italian for any reason?

  11. Sam the kenyan red says:

Rax am sorry mate i hadnt read your first post ,its really sad to see what cancer has done to our great country hopefully many stakeholders(such as U-N-I-T-E-D) will come on board and save our nation.Anyway where you at ?

  12. HARGREAVES' CURLY HAIR says:

this is what sets united apart from other clubs.
sad for dave it is unfair that PDT only worked for some cancers. i hope in future that they can find cures for all cancers and TB,HIV AIDS.:-l

  13. Giles Oakley says:

Last night it was Ryan Giggs on News at Ten in Sierra Leone for Unicef trying to raise awareness of AIDs/ HiV, now it’s Sir Alex writing very eloquently (and knowing him I’d bet he did write it) about cancer, trying to raise funds for research. It makes me proud of the team I’ve supported so long, and thanks to Scott for putting this statement up. As some of you know, this is a cause close to my heart, or to be more accurate, a little lower down, as I have Advanced Prostate cancer (many thanks again for all the kind wishes posted by some of you from time to time). I would urge any of you to go to your GP and ask for a PSA blood test if you have the least reason to think you might have a problem there (there are many other conditions that almost all men are likely to face at some point, not just cancer). Classic symptoms are, pissing lots of times, especially in the night, having to go very suddenly, having an intermittent flow (i.e. piss that stops and starts) or any sudden change in the pattern of your pissing (and I don’t mean writing MUFC in the snow…). The earlier you are checked out the better, and don’t be embarrassed raising it with your doc, as it were. As a nurse friend of mine from Christie’s Cancer Hospital in Manchester once said to a flasher who jumped out her as she left work, ‘Put it away, I’ve been handling bigger ones than that all day!’

  14. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

this here is amaing this is more than going the extra mile
this is not football related so putting it on this blog is going the extra mile for exposure
but for manchester unted to do this is going above and beyond what any football team can do
barca and manchester united fans should be so proud that there team does give a fuck

  15. sanj says:

Giles, as always, I wish you the best and keep you in my thoughts. I lost my father 2 years ago to cancer, so this too is very close to my heart. I hope everyone realizes how many of us are affected by this disease and makes a donation. Every little bit counts. Great to see Sir Alex and United supporting this cause.

  16. Stand up for the Red Army says:

Donated. Heres another brilliant example theres so much more to this club than just football.

  17. Jack says:

off topic anyone noticed how people have crizcited rooney for not turning up for the big games ussaly but this season his scored v spurs city arsenal chelsea

  18. Always Be Closing says:

Strange as it sounds, cheers Giles – I’ll be getting checked out as one of them fits the bill.

  19. neli g says:

sorry, i cant help pointing out

“8,000 people die a year. Few survive”.

this is rather poorly written seeing as death is generally fatal…

  20. Giles Oakley says:

The ‘few survive’ refers back to those who contract the disease, not the 8000.

  21. Sofia says:

This is part of the reason I love this club.

  22. cav says:

    Very classy.

Not being british, I’m surprised to find out that the NHS doesn’t fund stuff like this.

  23. Giles Oakley says:

The NHS does fund a huge amount of research on cancer and other things, Cav, supplemented by charities. I am about to go on a clinical trial of a new form of radiotherapy developed in an NHS specialist cancer hospital in London, which is one of the best in the world. I have not needed special privileges to get referred there, nor have I used private health insurance, nor have I paid to ‘jump the queue’, it’s all been done through my GP, then my local hospital, now on to the Cancer hospital, all through the normal channels of the NHS, available to all regardless of the colour of your skin, your religion or your social class. All on the NHS, the finest institution in Britain, after United that is.

  24. manchuchu says:

United: It’s not just a game. It’s life.

  25. cav says:

Giles- Not going to get into the healthcare debate but okay. then, I’m surprised that something like this isn’t a higher priority.

  26. SteniS says:

I just recently did a university project about PDD and PDT treatment. Was really fascinating how they could use lasers and a flourescent substance to erradicate tumours with pinpoint accuracy.

  27. Bebeto says:

It’s commendable that he had the gumption to write such a personal account. I’m proud for the club to associate itself with such a fight.

In addition to this, the Everyman charity – fighting against prostate and tesicular cancer – also does great work.

  28. kel says:

I’m sure if those football player or owner of city can donate some of their money. Surely all will be cured without difficulty. Money won’t follow you to hell so why not become great person when you can if you have a lot of money.
