Fergie: We Were Worthy Winners

Manchester United beat Portsmouth 1-0 last night, after enjoying more than 60% of the possession. Wayne Rooney also had a goal wrongly ruled out for off side. In a game where we were without several key players, at a ground where we haven’t done well in recent years, our lads gave a good account of themselves.

Fabio Capello watched from the stands, seeing Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney all putting in solid performances. Tevez worked his socks off, Fletcher grafted for the goal, so all in all, a good night out for our lot!

“Yes, I think [we were worthy winners tonight]. I think we played some excellent football,” Fergie said. “Historically it (Fratton Park) is a difficult place to come. Last year we drew here, the year before we lost.”

After a shaky start on the opening day against Newcastle where our lads didn’t really turn up, they had a lot to be proud of themselves for last night at Portsmouth.

There was some excellent football played, lovely interchanges of passes and brilliant attacking moves. It was something I certainly wasn’t expecting.

So, worthy winners indeed, which is more than what can be said for our rivals this weekend!

very impressed with the sqaud players like fletcher, o’shea and possebon.

Anderson proves why hes a fan favourite by putting in an immense performance when he could have been parading in Rio, onwards and upwards full steam ahead to Monaco!!!!!!

    Bring it home

Big up Darren Fletcher. Is Fletcher becoming a pretty good midfielder???

  3. Robinson Macgregor says:

We’re looking good……..Posebon upped his game too………Guys you were great……….

Great performance, only worry was the lack of goals and genuine goal scoring chances given the possession count. Thought Scholes was majestic. Anderson is quickly becoming the great midfield player that he was always going to be. Rooney had touches last night that showed he is nearly back to his best, that turn for his shot on goal in the first half was world class. All in all very satisfactory evening. the future looks bright…….. the future looks red

really impressed with the way possebon is playing, the way he keeps the ball, pass and pick pockets so easily!, i believe he is our new Paul Scholes, while Anderson is turning out to be our new Roy Keane.

on the other hand.. what happened to O’Shea… he’s usually reliable and put on a great shift for us when he’s called into action. but to be honest he was dreadful yesterday. He seems to be taking his place in the line up for granted. Lacking the urgency and hunger that Fletcher show.. committing needless foul in dangerous area. SAF even had to yell at him to stop drifting around and anchor the midfield as the Defensive Midfielder he was supposed to be playing

o shea was the only poor player on the park for us yesterday .

on the other hand , was delighted by ando n carlitos . incredible work rate .

also fletch and brown finally look the finished article . they know their limitations and played very well within themselves (eg. fletcher always checked back on the flanks , he knows he cant dribble) .

rio n vida were immense as usual .

scholesy was great , yet am i the only one who notices him spraying a couple of passes astray every game nowadays?….no complaints but it could hurt us in the big games .

evra also put in a good shift . very impressed with him in attack though he could improve on a few areas in defence . his positioning is a bit suspect . but i reckon thats because fergie gave him license to get forward .

wazza – it seems he is starting to consider what everyone has to say about his game , which could be beneficial to us in the long run . consciously made the effort to remain in the final third throughout the game and should have had a goal for his efforts but for an incompetant linesman .

big man van – pleeeeeeease dont palm back long range efforts like that again ! thats exactly what got howard chucked out .

possebon – he has the attributes to succeed . good awareness , tackling , passing but im not getting too excited after just 2 sub appearances . have to see more of him over a season before passing judgement .

by the way love schloesy’s new bearded look . he should groom that . wazza too should try that . ando – rio’s right – run to a hairdresser a.s.a.p.!!!

Anant – you are dead-right about Anderson and Tevez; their work-rate is incredible. Having those two guys behind Rooney gives the team terrific defence-from-the-front. They’re both low-center-of-gravity guys and both Anderson and Tevez use their arses to great effect in bulling the opponent off the ball; and, their ball-skills ain’t half bad, either.

  9. Drew Vader says:

I didn’t think O’Shea was that bad last night, I thought he did a job in a position that isn’t his best.

And Andersonsonson must be so incredibly annoying to play against. He somehow manages to come away with the ball even in 40-60 challenges against him. And 50-50s, forget about it. The lad is awesome.

  10. Drew Vader says:

Oh yeah, I’d also like to give a big FUCK YOU to that linesman.

  11. Tom F says:

I was very impressed with Tevez – as always he works so fookin’ hard! He looks a lot quicker than Rooney right now, but I was still impressed with Wayne. He looks to be very close to getting a goal (one which isn’t wrongly ruled out!)

Evra was my man of the match.. such a great player and will definately be an inspiration to Fabio and Rafael.

I am quite enjoying our injuries in a weird way, when the results go our way, it’s nice to watch the games back and see the likes of O’shea, Fletch and Rodrigo get games!
