Sir Alex Ferguson today confirmed that we are still playing a waiting game when it comes to Darren Fletcher’s future as he battles ulcerative colitis, a bowel condition.
“We’ll wait and see,” Ferguson told MUTV. “The boy’s trying very hard to get back to his level. It’s not going to be easy but we’ll give him every possible chance and see how he does. He kept himself active towards the end of last season. He replaced Scholes as the reserve team coach when Scholes decided to come back into the fold. Darren’s a terrific lad and we all hope that he can come back soon.”

Man Utd News 24/7

Hope Fletch gets to teh point where he can actually play again but it seems maybe Fergie isn’t banking on it. Maybe a replacement in mind?
Agree with that provided it’s not at the cost of us bringing in another midfielder.
It is good that the Gaffer is not giving up on Fletcher but we cannot assume that he will overcome his problem and he will start playing for UTD. But we cannot go into the next season with that assumption. We need to find a player of Fletcher’s ability. I don’t have any names in mind but we need a proper box to box midfielder who can give us energy and bite in the midfield. We have sorely missed Fletch. Get well soon lad.
I love that the club is putting as much faith behind him but to be honest, it sounds more like an excuse not to sign a midfielder of similar style. If Fletcher is still trying to get back, then that’s pretty much the same diagnosis we got 7 months ago. It doesn’t look good.
SAF looks after his own. Fletch just last year had a big pay increase and SAF will keep him on as a player to keep his pay as long as possible. Denton Dave suffers from the same, he paints a almost no hope for his full return. As of 3,4 years ago I did a marketing gig and it had medical underwriting. Unless a new wounder drug since. Stress is a tiger the symptoms. PL Man Utd no stress there. My 2nd Fav player.
Kebab spot on as per the usual.
Hope we don’t let this drag on like Hargreaves. Not fair on Fletch. His health is more important than kicking a white ball. The club must do right by him.
SAF in my short 8 going on 9 years watching this club, SAF likes to see the men at practice, pre season game time to see the lads before he makes choices, so his choice is not based on last April. Andy? The kids for sure.
Full moon wolfie, I run with K9 friends.
I REALLY hope Fletch makes it back to the level he was at when idiots like Wenger were describing him as anti-football, cos he was breaking up their Barcelona-lite passing moves and stopping them from playing. He was essential for us back then and was my first name on the team sheet. We’ve missed his grit and bite in that midfield. Got my fingers crossed for you Darren.
Fletcerinho!!! Oh how we missed him!!
I do agree with Costas though. I hope this isn’t another thinly veiled disguise not to strengthen our midfield. The whole ‘there’s no value in the market’ thing just doesn’t wash with me anymore.
We have missed him indeed………Love the lad, get back soon Fletch
I know to some I will always be Plastic cunt fan from America, that is OK.
I feel, with the help of RoM and other sites I have advanced to a high tech polymer blend twat.
Long term goal is to be considered as a shaven tucked Zib.
The Academy lads are the best part of following this great club. And SAF has know Fletch’s fate for a long time. He will like of course treat him right, and let him make his earned $.

Well well, Welbeck.
Not one for conspiracy theories if you catch my drift, but me left hand is itchy and that usually means I am in for some money, it also means we will be making one more signing
That was probably the daftest post ever
@Zibbie
Yeah and I think Willie summed it up pretty well. Fletcher has to start putting his health first and foremost. If we don’t want to sign another box to box midfielder, that’s fine. Don’t use him as an excuse. Heck, start promoting Tunni in the first team for all I care.
Man I wish Fletch all the best. Why do bad things happen to good guys, This guy gave his TOTAL ALL for us when he was on the pitch. He fought through many of our own fans abusing him when he first broke into the side to being a hugely important part of our three straight titles plus champions league glory. A MASSIVE RAGING ball of energy. I really hope he recovers and comes back into the side. NO way in hell I would give Fletch up for anything. WISH YOU ALL THE BEST FLETCH!!!!
In this corner from the Academy this year a hard hitting MF player with Man Utd written with Man Utd DNA!!!!

You are all steel and metal pal, never saw any plastic in you………Hopefully you will make your peace with NRD sometime soon….Both of you are proper REDS
Costas
Your dig at Robbo did not go a miss pal……….Because I love you I will forgive you! ha ha ha
Saddens me deeply thinking of the agony of Fletch. Has to be the most underrated premiership player we have seen. Class act both on and off the pitch.
@Cedars
Ah you saw that mate? I must have missed among all the craziness earlier today. Now I think our friendship is ruined forever.
Costas you have such and educated point of view as always love to here it. My bad you felt thrown in my Berba hate rants, and Rooney love rants, you and Wayne so articulate your feeling so well and I or no one outside our women can tell us how we feel. I love the way some express personal dislike to pure hate for Wazza. Fine line between expressing oneself and not BELIEVING that special Man Utd force. That was taught to me.
Man Utd never lose, the time just expires.
Plan for the worst and hope for the best – not another hargreaves with 3 seasons
Giggs12
Spot the cunting fuck on mate……..How have you been? Not seen you here for ages
Costas
I will let it slide this time, if you catch my drift (God I love that line) however just beware that you are on thin ice when it comes to Robbo
I guess when things happen you learn to go somewhere deep down to pick yourself up
I’ve just learnt that myself over the last three weeks
I believe in Fletch
Somewhere along this road we just meet people that change our lives.
Fletch has his people.
I have mine.
19
Tree thanks I just flat out my entire earthly existence just pis off 12.278% of all people. NRD is all good we have had some run ins in the past. Not just saying him, I get it. I came here in transition. Were if people went off topic the majority would scold you to stay on Topic. Shit in Lebanese Zibbie means My Dick, in some other language it must mean OFF TOPIC. And from the US. Can not spell, talk halfass backwards. And some see the Budda in me. No wonder the shiten has been easy. See off topic from Budda to But rammen.
19 BELIEVES!!!!!
Believe 19.
My Dick
Staying on topic is boring my friend……….You are a top bloke as far as I am concerned
RoM is wonder full and was rehab for me 2 times. A back/neck thing and a septic infection where some 80% go out in black bags.
Thanks for checking in 19, so many world wide feel for you.
@Zibbie
Don’t worry about it. I didn’t take any personal offence and I am not going to get into hissy fights with anyone I consider a friend over here anyway. I just didn’t want you getting bent out of shape for no reason. That’s why I treated the whole thing with humor. Like Cedars said, I hope you and Notorious will patch things up over time. Every opinion will be respected as long as it’s respectful. I hope so anyway.
@Cedars
Lucky me.
Hey feel free to take shots at my favotire United player if you want to. But then again, there’s not a lot you can say about Bebe.
Cedars
I’m good mate, how about yourself? I have posted a couple of times but been so busy with work just not had the time. I desperately miss the football genius.
Drunk, but will try to put in a fucking poem in:
So he went down the hell,
The panic sounded like a loud temple bell,
Hope our Fletch is sound & well,
Like us, he wouldn’t waste the time to dwell,
Will be back on the road to recovery,
The lad is tough as nails and not one bit sugary,
Let hell combat you our dear Darren,
Your fan support ain’t going one bit barren,
Let the worst combat & test you to the fucking limit,
We’ll stay behind you and will take you to the zenith!
@ MG
Take care my friend . Hope you recover soon and are back in full swing! Wish you a speedy recovery my friend!
Evening nut shavers
Costas
Ha ha ha……..I cannot take shots at you even if I wanted, you bugger I have too much respect for you…..Right, now we are getting all mushy here!!
Great to see MG here……..get well soon pal
Thanks I feel a home on RoM not at home. I feel a home.
Like attract’s like. I try to keep my green monster down deep, I fail some times.
Attack my thoughts, attack my post, tell my ideas of my posts to FUCK off, call me a plastic cunt you better send me an anatomically correct young Jenna molded from her casting of the best fake pussy that vibrates too. Or wrestle.
Costas
You been bad mouthing captain marvel fella!
Thanks Costas, I get and Know you a man.
Giggs12
I miss him too, has a special place in my heart he does
20:23 for me to. musshy potatoes closed mouth cheek kiss.
If health forces him out the game its a huge shame but at least he got to play some brilliant football at the top Club in England. Now that we know how long he’s had the condition you can only imagine what he WOULD’VE been like had he been fully fit the whole time. Proper box to box midfielder in his prime, would be amazing if he got more apps under his belt. All the best Dazza!
To be fair lads, Carrick, Giggs, Scholes, Park, Young, Anderson, Cleverley and now Kagawa – thats sufficient cover for two or three CM places surely? I doubt we’ll sign ANOTHER one considering we’ve also got Powell, so perhaps we should all see what the new boys have to offer before requesting more midfielders? For what its worth I think we’ll click this season, our luck with injuries can’t be that bad!
Congrats Valencia on getting the number 7, if Nani doesn’t want it Tony definitely deserves it. As for Pogba he was man of the match today and played well funnily enough, but if he doesn’t want to be here that settles it. Good luck with Juve, everybody reckons Italian Clubs will be next to dominate in Europe but United will be back with a vengeance after fucking about in the Group stage. Welbeck’s come a long way since those 2 goals v Basel aye?
Future’s bright lads!
Dave and Jim were a couple of drinking buddies who worked as aircraft mechanics in Heathrow Airport
One day the airport was fogged in and they were stuck in the hangar with nothing to do.
Dave said, ‘Man, I wish we had something to drink!’
Jim says, ‘Me too. I’ve heard you can drink jet fuel and get a buzz.
You wanna try it?’
So they pour themselves a couple of glasses of high octane booze and get completely smashed.
The next morning Dave wakes up and is surprised at how good he feels.
In fact he feels GREAT! NO hangover! NO bad side effects.
Nothing!
Then the phone rings. It’s Jim . Jim says, ‘Hey, how do you feel this morning?’
Dave says, ‘I feel great, how about you?’
Jim says, ‘I feel great, too. You don’t have a hangover?’
Dave says, ‘No that jet fuel is great stuff — no hangover, nothing. We ought to do this more often..’
‘ Yeah, well there’s just one thing.’
‘What’s that?’
‘Have you farted yet?’
‘No.’
‘Well, DON’T – cause I’m in Athens ‘
So we have a more “valuable” manager it seems,
Ohh it’s just our neighbours and they only know the screams,
Don’t they respect the legend and don’t they respect our fucking club,
Fuck them and let them recruit a player not even worthy of a fuckin pub!
Fuck off you bitter cunts, we’ll be taking that title back pretty soon you clueless fucks!
@Mike
Not my fault pal! Someone listed our previous number 7 holders (including Owen) and Robbo was the only one that seemed like he didn’t belong on the list.
But in all seriousness, I don’t want to take shots at Owen all the time. He did well with what he was given and I don’t like blaming any player for the hand fate deals him. Having looked back at previous summer tournament reviews, you can tell that Owen would have had a very different career if his body didn’t give out ever since the 2006 WC. And you know, it could have been worse. In 2003, Fergie gave the 7 shirt to a young 19 year old Portuguese winger he had just signed. Imagine if he did the same in 2010 when he bought another young Portuguese winger.
@Cedars
Yeah, I do make it hard for you folks to hate me don’t I?
@Zibbie
Yeah, but do you know since when I’ve been a man?
No
Costas
Of course its easy to love you pal, besides you are just a swim away, so if you are ever acting nasty I could swim over and give you a spanking!! ha ha ha
Good to see and hear SAF!!
Get swimming!
@Zibbie
That’s ok. I am keeping that one a secret anyway. A gentleman never kisses and tells, etc etc…
@Cedars
Don’t forget your swimming arm bands.
OK I said this the other day. DDG LB? Thoughts please.
Costas
Haha! Robbo was one of the first none right wingers to wear the number 7. Took it off Steve Coppell. Worn the famous number 7 more than any other United player. He even made Cantona wear another shirt when they played together!!
Ok I said this the other day. Andy Carroll a footballer? Thoughts please.
This pretty young lad in Mexico he was Spanish on Holiday in 86 asked if he could be my 2nd cherry experience. I politely deferred, that little 2 minute interaction turned my women so hot. Wow I love Cancun and Cozumel the beeches almost sugar white the great fishing and diving. .
Mike
I think what you’re trying to say is that Robbo raped shit, no? Fucker had such an aura about him that younger players pissed themselves just at the mere sight of him
Robbo was the only footballer to make Cantona feel insignificant………..Trust me, that says a LOT
parsan lol!
Tree you and others have linked so many great past feet of strength. hehe I then clicked seen more shit and watch past games fox run! Robbo a peer for me at 50?
How much would we love to have Robbo on our side today.
feet’s of strength.
Giggs12
The mere thought……….
Fergie’s taking a huge gamble with fletcher. The loyalty is understandable but seriously doubt darren will get back to his previous level. Fletcher relies heavily on his energy, he covers every blade of grass on the pitch and with this unfortunate illness, it’s a long shot expecting or hoping he’ll return to make a significant impact. I hope the manager has other alternatives in mind, it’s important he brings quality in that central midfield engine room. I’d imagine he’d promote some younger players as wel.
I first saw Keano as a Irish Captain then a Man Utd Captain. Love that type of player. I sure Robbo would have been one if not my fav player if the US showed the games. .
shit I drink ever time someone types cretin words, engine room counts 3X
Zibbie dont start cedars off on the Keane Robson debate it will send him to bed early.
Ha ha ha ha
We had Robbo this season we’d win the treble. We’d have walked the league last year. The bloke was THE best!
That is drink 5X offence here in RoM.
Samuel
I wouldnt worry about alternative plans Fergie seems very calculated at the mo. Happy to see powell come in and replace Morrison. Kagawa is the link we have been missing and would be surprised if we don’t add again.
I also love how we are giving Fletch every opportunity to get back.
Sun came up lets celebrate with a beer. Was my age the Robbo age.
Robbo Cop
Robbo Copanator
Robbonator.
Robbo nation
Kagawa is going to be FUCKING AWESOME !!!
Sam SAF always has a plan and a back up for a backup and a back up for the backup. Prunes stoll sofener.
Mike so fucking spot on!!!!!
Maybe I saw the wrong 6 games in 2 years of Hazzard, but the 10 games for club and 3 or 4 for country, I much prefer Kagawa. Now in the last 3 weeks saw 4 replay games of his club games on GolTV. They carry the Germans here. HE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And imo can handle the size of the club.
I think what Mike is trying to say is that Kagawa is going to rape fucking shit
Zibbie
I just think kid style is United style and watching him reminds me of how we used to play. Can’t fucking wait!
Cedars
Spot fucking on!!!!!
Kagawa will see the runs of Rooney, Welbeck Lil Pea, Nani, Tony 7 the missing mf link. TC23 as well. Giggs for 12 games as well. When Rooney hits the same mins he played this year his tally 42 goals 8 assists.
The Scholes of 99 that I never got to know. TC as well wow.
Bring it on you bin dipping fuckers………Oh wait, they are not challengers any more eh?
Powell as well for the near future, or like Jones and those who came before him. Claim more minutes based on played minutes and 1st team guy!!! Andy as candy or bait? Or …..
Giggs12 -> i agree, i think FERGIE isn’t done with signings. I can’t champion kagawa signing enough, very talented playmaker, he’ll be a creative force and will improve united in the final third. Powell is a great signing that i actuall believe is capable of fighting for a first team spot, his age is irrelevant to me, he has all the potential but i hope united will still strengthen further, some players may step up from the reserves as wel.
On fletcher, i like many hope he’ll recover well and get back playing but let’s not forget the physical demands of football, it would be incredible if fletch returns to the level of him rampaging all around the pitch, i really hope he does but reality could hit and the club has to be ready to combat it.
hahaha Tree
This young team will grow so much from last Aug. Rafa looka thicker ect. Welbeck do a side by side pic a year apart.
There must be loads of DVDs available about Robbo. Maybe someone can recommend a good one for Zibbie. Every time I look on youtube, it’s the same classic moments like being carried off the pitch after the pitch invasion. Interesting that once again, a Fletch thread becomes a Robbo thread. I want him back because he’s got everything and also because he cried when he was released by the club as a youngster. Think his Mum rang the club seeing if anything could be done and the boss, knowing the value of loyalty brought him back in.
Xol
Not sure about DVD’s but his Autibiography ROBBO might be a start?
xol. He was released by the club as a youngster?? I hadn’t heard of that. Thanks for the info mate. This incident itself tells you how much Fletch loved the club. He is a proper Red and I hope he can make a full recovery and get back into the team. I keep wondering what would have happened if Fletch was in the team for the 2 finals against Barcelona. Would the result have been different? Maybe but I am damn sure he would have made a difference to our midfield.
Thanks guys. I surfed and saw 6 videos
For me to see Fletch grow and I guess JOS ans Wes . to have an aliment hit his prime is a blow to our balls, hearts and heads.
I hope he gets back to full fitness..
It would be such a shame of Fletch was to retire because of this…
xol
Every thread should turn into a Robbo chat pal
ROB7ON!!!!!!
Class response from Ferguson. All the club can do, to be fair. Plus all the youth players get a great role model so there is winning on all sides.
It would be aces to see him play again, but only if is the real Fletcher and not some charity event.
Still think he has earned a testimonial if he hangs his boots.
“we might sign…..” heard it before from SAF means we are done for the summer, pretty much. Will be interesting to see if a Japanese midfielder will be enough. Powell pretty much substitutes Pogba.
There is only one Robbo

Thanks Fletch
MikeKelly
Could do mate. But the way these IPO things usually work is that they are all offered to a privelaged few at the IPO, and lowly minions only get a crack after the price has shot up. Might wait to see if it comes down to junk bond status and buy up on the cheap
Done with signing’s for the summer?Kagawa and Powell are not enough and nothing like it,if Berba is staying then fair enough that takes care of the backup striker.But a secondary left back is a must and snap regarding another midfielder,not done and United are under the cosh from the off imo.
United just filed F-1 with SEC. Take a look at the the document for those interested.
http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1549107/000104746912007026/a2210109zf-1.htm
Fletch
Haha! Maybe we could just turn up to the stock exchange in sharp suits and shades and pretend we’re high rollers…. “yeah, you heard me Mr Banker, me and Fletch want 5 each!”. We’ll have to wait and see what they do with the cash? Will they pay off the debt or plunder the cash?!!
Bye-bye debt ( or at least a part of it )
No wonder SAF has been thinking about spending!
In five years, United will have the greatest club team ever, and nobody will remember Barca
Awesome youngsters coming through, and with the right buys, United’ll be back at the top of our perch.
I think SAF went and had a serious talk with the Glazers on the financial situation of the club.
Told them he needed funds to ride us through this rough patch till our youngsters come through.
Whatever the reason, United are fucking back ABUs!
From the IPO Documents come 2 key statements.
1) they intend to use the proceeds to pay down the debt.
2) They specify the debt at £423.3 million.

Best line has to be the one on page 6
Sweet, time to get my Gordon Gecko on and buy me up a chunk of United. As soon as I’m on the board, it’s Strooty time baby.
Nobody rolls higher than Cyril
Fletch
Haha. I’ll take John Belushi, legend. Question on the dept as I’m mathematically retarded. Isn’t the share option for £100m, with our debt being £423m? Not that much of a dent is it?
Mike, They are conservatively putting it at 100m. Believe U me, the last thing they could wish for is to NO raise the posted figure. That would put all their bonds at huge risk.
My hunch is that they are finally starting to worry that the debt is affecting our ability to bring in top players and our ability to compete.
Who knew?
It’s really interesting to view from a case analyses perspective. They bought United through and LBO and since then have cycled through any and all tools available in the capital markets to wiggle out of the mess they put themselves in.
Fletch
Hope you’re right pal.
Don’t see Sir Alex’s quote as a excuse not to sign anyone,just letting the lad know the club is fully behind him.By what i’ve read on here and the fact this’ll be going into the 3rd season don’t hold much hope for him to get back 100%,it’s nice to see the club keeping him a part of things,let’s just hope he can recover and pull on the Red shirt again
Not going to get into a Glazier debate @Sushi wish i’d bought a business 6 yrs ago that has doubled in price while reducing the debt by 300+million and now possibly another 100mill min.Think the last value was around 1.4bill pounds which means if they sold would walk away with a billion profit in 6 yrs.What mess are you talking about?
So, do season ticket holders get preferential pricing to holiday in the Cayman Islands….. at least until global warming drops them below sea level

look at this Chicharito interview, I just found, maybe you’ve seen it, but this guy is special, he loves the team and loves to play football.
A gem for our team
Got a leaflet through the door today about season ticket priority list. The Club are leafleting the local area. Not seen this before.
Speaking of Robbo, think I heard he’s going on the pre season tour? ..or part of it.
Looking at some of the fixtures, I think he should get a game. I’d pair him with young Cleverley.
@andersred: #MUFC IPO doc indicates proceeds will be largely used to pay down debt but “over allotment option” could raise cash for Glazers.
Scrap that, Clevs is playing for the Britons. Pair Robbo with anyone it’d work. Veron and Robson might have worked.
@Wayne
Increase in season ticket prices for the normal everyday United supporter priced out of the game (not that it bothers supporters who don’t go to games), lack of spending power in the transfer market whilst farting out millions on interest payments, not liking Americans, etc.
So the club finally, FINALLY admit the debt is weighing us down.
Potentially fascinating and crucial couple of years ahead off the pitch.
They’re renting out mufc allotments?
Nice to see the Glazers have finally realised debt strangles our ability in the transfer market. Shrewd businessmen they are, though. I don’t hate them personally. They saw United as a fucking huge cash cow. At least they’re acting now. The profits Glazer’s are bringing in, is brilliant, but it’s no good if it’s going towards paying interest off the debt. If this latest IPO share issue is successful, and some of the debt is payed off, that can only be a good thing.
@Kanchelskis
Don’t take the piss mate.
DEBT is GOOD…!
So debt IS the road to ruin after all?
Here’s an idea, people give credit to the owners with their business and Marketing moves but there are so many ways to squeeze money out of fans. example toothpaste, we all buy it so why can’t it be mufc toothpaste. Same goes for bog roll and all the other stuff we have to buy. As long as there are guarantees that the debt is being payed off people might go for it. Even non match going reds have to wipe their arses! Just has to go to debt so there’s no ‘lining the glazers pockets’ scenario (which is always going to happen until most agree that it’s getting under control).
AlphaRS Utds ticket prices are in line or less than the other top clubs other than City,that’s just the state of football nothing to do with Utd,how many years ago was ‘the prawn sandwich” comment made by keane.When players get big wages ulitmately the fan will pay.
Although some fans keep going on about Utd not being competitive in the transfer market i’ve seen no proof of that.If you mean the club sticks to a wage struture that’s been in place for years and won’t overpay unlike City and Chelsea then you’re correct,every year Utd are in the running for big names but can’t compete with crazy,still have the 3rd biggest payroll in the prem how is that not being competitive?
@Costas
The Glazers are the best thing that have EVER happened to United. I like them.
Come to think of it, LUFC bog roll might sell better.
I hope Fletcher comes back, soon, love the fella, he is United to the core. Get well soon fella.
After Ronnie left in 2009, people struggled to see who would step up, Rooney did with the goals !
Fletcher was amazing that year down the middle, Valencia made us forget who roamed the wings before him and Patrice Evra down the other end had his best & imo last good season with us.
The following year, Nani,Berbatov,Vidic and Van Der Sar came to our rescue when Rooney struggled.
From my POV, we owe those players alot and which is why they deserve our time and effort. (Ie Fletch, Vidic, Nani)
However, no disrespect towards Fletch, but I think we should dip into the market to buy his replacement (now that Pogbastard is gone too), we are short and weak in this position after Carrick + Scholes.
Figgie suggests 1 or 2 more deals are being thrashed out, its more probable to be 1 more signing. I hope it’s a midfielder. Tbh how long can the manager ignore a problem that has bitten us so many times the pain has been numbed.?
@Wayne
Like I said. The Glazers are the best thing to EVER happen to United. So don’t get your Y fronts in a twist.
Willie
According to Andersred who knows his financial onions. 2 main points to take away are 1. No dividends will be paid 2. All proceeds of the IPO will go towards reducing debt. So good news. Night all.
WillieRedNut – I think they are very lucky with the success the club had between 2006 to 2011. Because if they did not? the club may have been in more debt that they could have handled. I still think we still need a takeover, with someone fit enough financially to take the club forward, especially when fergie does leave, because the next manager will make more mistakes than fergie will ever make in a lifetime
AlphaRS – totally disagree, I think fergie covered and masked the financial cracks the glazers put on the club, its been fergie’s brilliance more than what the glaxers have done, they were just lucky they took over the club during a golden period of the club’s history
Did I say strangles? I meant strangling! silly me….
Mikey – Saw that mate. Hope Andersred is right. Seems to know his stuff on that subject!
@FITB
It’s got feck all to do with SAF.
The Glazers are amazing businessmen and it is due to them that United are so successful. I mean who cares about season ticket prices and supporters and boring stuff like that. I’m going to send Big Daddy Malcolm a Christmas card now. He has always been on my list.
AlphaRS that’s the last thing the Glaziers are to the club and as a fan i hate it,but i can’t hate the Glaziers for making the move and it was allowed to happen.I try and base my opinions on what i read,what irrates me about the Haters a lot of what is said is not true to make a point.Prime example was your comment about ticket prices,yes they’ve gone up but so has everyone else’s,the game is becoming out of reach form the working man.
.For long enough ticket prices for NHL,Basketball have been sky high and both have working class roots like Football.What’s happening is Football is catching up with North American sports not in a good way.That also applys to the young lads becoming “stars” and demanding big money before proving themselves,owners overpaying and clubs getting into trouble that’s the reason now all leagues have some form of cap
The key is to peel back those mud flaps with two number2 pencils and put that shit on ice.
AlphaRS – success on the pitch is crucial to them staying around off it and for united. If fergie did not sign VDS vidic and evra in the 2005/06 season, which not many found bargain prices for the latter 2. Managed to revive scholes career after his injury in the second half of the 2005/06 season, making a good move for carrick in the 06/07 season, managing to get rooney and ronaldo to come together for uniteds assault in the PL and Europe between 2006//09. Even getting an extra year out of ronaldo, sorry but without success on the pitch, there is no success off it. The success brings in the extra cash, heck fergie transformed ronaldo into the worlds best, and got a sensational 80 million out of the ronaldo deal. If he did not get ronaldo to man up, in 2006, he would have gone for 20 to 30 million tops
@Wayne
Right I will be serious now. Ha.
Since the Glazers took over haven’t season ticket prices doubled? I don’t think that has happened to any other premier league club over the same period of time.
As for the transfer thing hasn’t the net spend of united been reduced significantly since the Glazers took over the club? There was a time when United wanted somebody they would just go out and get them. A lack of a midfield signing may have been down to SAF expecting Morrison and Pogba to come through but that hole has been gaping for some time now and nothing was done.
@FITB
I agree with you mate. I was just being sarcastic earlier.
Wayne raises some good points about how they have developed United as a business.
FITB – Fergie’s genius mate. That’s all!
AlphaRS – ah right
I want MUFC Toothpaste so bad. I nearly bought some United bubblegum today but they didn’t have a pack with Rio on. They were all Jones, Young and Rooney.
AlphaRS the transfer market has changed since the introduction of owners who don’t care about losing millions every year no one can compete with City or Roman,Roman can’t compete with City
City would spend 50mill on a player and sit him on the bench just so Utd couldn’t have him,the market’s out of control,look how much Liverpool spent last year for what?.Half the time it’s not even the transfer fee it’s the players wages or the player wanting to play in Spain.Utd have never panic bought and will always stay within the pay structure,if the player is worried about the paycheck rather than wanting to come because of what the club is Sir Alex will never sign him
If you think ticket prices are to high ok,just saying Utd are charging the same or less than every other top team,like i said that’s the state of football.On a older thread fans going on about how Utd were penny pinching about not paying Nani the 130k a week although the contract still has two years to run,then the other side of the coin complaining about ticket prices,well the two things are connected.Any fan wanting to support a top team live will have to pay higher prices,no matter what club.
Antonio Valencia just tweeted:
Antonio Valencia @AntoV25
Tomo el 7 con mucha humildad. Trabajare muy fuerte. Gracias a Dios, a mi familia, al equipo y a ustedes por confiar en mi. #todossomos7
Translation:
I take the #7 w/ much humility. It will make me work very hard. Thanks to god, my family, the team, and to all of you for your confidence in me. We are all #7s
Must say, AV7 is growing on me.
Zibbie – Happy Independence day, you crazy yank!
Fletch that quote is awesome,AV7 indeed mate
AV7? StR will be dusting off the guns again!
Woohoo!
The most suited person for the No. 7. We all love Tony V. We do.
To be honest, I think the No. 7 will do him a world of good. He is an awesome player. No doubt about that. But he was never the kind of person who was going to single-handedly inspire you with something magical. Now, he might just become that kind of person. That is the effect No.7 “may” have on him. When the odds are against us, it might just inspire him to produce something that is going to be extra special. Not saying it will, but there are more chances of it happening than before. The weight and history of that No. 7 jersey is going to inspire him to greatness.
Happy Independence Day, Zibster and any other Americans reading this!
Morning reds around the world,
get well soon Fletch, we all miss you..God speed
Morning lads.
Chuffed for AV7
Disappointed with Pogba – I see both sides of the arguement, he/his agent acted like a pair of cunts all right, but I can’t help feeling he should have been given more minutes.
Zibbie and NRD gave us some epic laughs yesterday – kiss and make up you fucking nutters!
Have we sold anybody yet?
jeet, You know we’ll always disagree on that one.
Pogba got a taste last season, that was it. For me, the player is never the right person to decide whether he is ready or not. And if Sir Alex thought Pogba was ready, then he would’ve played. The very fact that Pogba didn’t play tells me something. Yes, I know people point to Richardson, Bebe etc. etc. but each case is singular. There’s no point comparing. Net-net: Pogba wasn’t introduced for a reason. Maybe he wasn’t ready in Sir Alex’s eyes. And as I’ve said earlier, we didn’t have a stable enough setup for introducing youngsters last season with injuries.
Whatever the reason, he should’ve waited. If playing time was the issue, then his move is fucking stupid. That points to the move not being made for footballing reasons. There’s no way he is going to break into Juventus this season. So, I can’t fathom why people are saying we should’ve played him more. I “definitely” don’t think this is an issue with playing time. He’s chasing money and is going to end up like countless other players who’ve regretted leaving Old Trafford.
Since Nani didn’t want it, I suppose it was only right that Valencia got it.
Good that Pogba is gone, or going to be anyway. Any bets that this is the last time he will get so much publicity? I don’t recall any youth player that we let go that has come good.
Congrats TV7.U deserve to be awarded d jersey cos there is no bullshitting with u.Strictly business.Ur a man’s man.Now go on son and take the number 7 to greater heights of glory for Utd.Absolutely love the beast.Happy Independence Day to all our US brethren.Enjoy the fireworks and plz dont cavort overly.Fletcher is what Utd IS all about.The working class man being given a chance in life to hit it BIGTIME.Grassroot football development for the next generation superstars.We make LEGENDS not buy them.Be well Football Genius.Adios.
@Alpha
Hi mate. Some good points by you and wayne. My position regarding the Glazers is pretty similar to yours. I don’t trust them or like what they’ve done with the club one bit. But as things stand, they hold the key to our survival. I don’t see anyone else making things better any time soon. Maybe an Arab coulkd buy the club and turn into City, but my dream is to see it surviving on its own again, debt free.
Regarding the net spend, it’s obvious that we’ve been limited in our spending ever since the Berba transfer. However, the figure isn’t as bad as it looks. People say our net spending is worse than Villa or Sunderland’s. On paper it is, but a large reason for that is Ronaldo’s sale. That 80 million makes our net spending since 09 seem a lot smaller.
@Marq
Yeah, Nani didn’t want it. And that’s been obvious ever since Ronaldo left. I am a bit disappointed he didn’t, because he was also a natural fit for that shirt. Yet some are “speculating” that Antonio getting the number 7 shirt has left Nani bitter and wanting out. Yeah right…
I just hope this IPO thing works. Whoever gets these shares will have no voting rights or dividends. Not a very attractive proposition.
This is what our great club is about:

Morning all
Pratyush
Great video that, young Danny looked wonderful in it! How he has grown and been a United lad all his life….
Daniel Nii Tackie Mensah Welbeck………………Epic name!!
Cedars
Exactly my thoughts.
Don’t think such things happen with other big clubs
I’d actually be happy to forgo trophies if United keep their faith in youth as they have done till now.
Nothing makes me happier than watching an Academy lad make it
That’s also why my cave players are Scholesy and Darren.
Really hope that Fletch makes a full recovery, he was actually the player that I liked most on the pitch when I started supporting United, always ready to literally bleed red .
Costas
Club’s official website article read that TonyV has requested for No7..
“ManUtd.com can also reveal that summer signings Nick Powell and Shinji Kagawa will wear no.25 and no.26 respectively.
Ecuador winger Valencia requested the no.7 shirt – worn previously by United legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo – following Michael Owen’s departure this summer.
The Reds’ remaining squad numbers for the 2012/13 season are yet to be confirmed.”
source – http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2012/Jul/new-squad-numbers-for-valencia-and-new-signings.aspx
I didn’t find any source that said “Nani didn’t want it and hence it was given to TonyV” as many are posting here
Pratyush
You have just echoed my own sentiments mate………I always go on about my passion for home grown players, they will always have that extra place in my heart
“Manchester United, the legendary English soccer club, filed plans to raise $100 million in an initial public offering in the U.S.
The move by the team’s owners, the Glazer family, which also owns the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wasn’t unexpected, but the filing provided a window into the finances of one of the most popular sports brands in the world.
According to the filing, United had $520 million in revenue last year. However, the team is also carrying some $664 million in debt, a sum that critics have said is preventing Manchester United from acquiring the top players in the world.”
Some interesting transfers@EPL
Danny Guthrie – free – Reading FC
Gylfi Sigurdsson – around 9m – Spurs
Mathieu Debuchy(France RB) – unknown – Newcastle United (expected, not done yet)
Morning nob rashes..
Costas… Surely shareholders will receive dividends in due course. I was under the impression that no dividends would be paid on the money made on the initial IPO and that all that money will service the debt. Shares bought will sureley include dividend payments or else they will be sold at a much higher price than initial purchase price??
Nob rashes? Ha ha ha……..Where on earth do you keep coming up with these Mike? Brilliant stuff
@Ancha
Valencia was the first choice this summer, no doubt. The way I look at it, Nani has made it clear for years now that he prefers 17. I am glad AV requested for the shirt. He probably didn’t feel deserving in 2009, but he’s certainly worthy now.
@Mike
Hi mate. I don’t know the full details, but I heard that the new shareholders wouldn’t receive any dividends. Unless like you said,that will happen once the debt is taken care of. There has to be some kind of allure for people to buy shares. Haven’t read the report yet since it was 283 pages long.
Numbers will only be relevant if the player wearing it makes a significant impact that matches those that previously worn it. Valencia will wear it but only what he contributes will be remembered, the number won’t hinder nor elevate him, it’s up to him step up to the elite level, the number 7 will not do that for him.
He seems to be brimming with confidence and if he has demanded it then he clearly feels capable of placing himself amongst the illustrious history of manchester united with his work on the pitch.
Costas, Samuel
Having not seen the No7 jersey for the past few years on the field regularly….I wanted it to be given to someone who will be a starter in majority of the games.
With Kagawa, Young, Nani in the mix…I’m not sure how many games he will start
Ancha
Valencia will start a lot of games if he stays fit, the right side is all but his own……Furthermore he does not have competition from Kagawa in that department, just Nani who I feel prefers playing on the right
@Ancha
Same here. And we will definitely watch it a lot more often on the pitch from now on. I am sure he will start a lot of games. The real competition imo is between Young and Nani. We could also see Valencia play at right back again this season..
Good that the club is testing the waters with this IPO.It should be oversubscribed in no time.Its a speculators heaven.The future is here.Go for it Reds!
Cedars, Costas
I feel many have played down the chances of Young becoming a main stay in our starting XI after watching the dreadful displays @EUROs..but it remains a fact that apart from the goal Rooney too was dreadful and it is more down to the defensive tactics of Hodgson than anything else…
I still think he will play a major role this season…Even when not in the game he is one of the few who can score/create a goal out of nothing…although his crossing has become erratic during later part of the last season he is actually a great crosser of the ball and one of his biggest strengths is his movement
Ancha – valencia wearing the number 7 won’t guarantee a first team place but his consistent form will. Yes, i’d imagine you want an eccentric player with flamboyance, flair and ego to don it but valencia will stamp his own personality on it. Like i said, numbers are not as relevant as they’re made out to be, the name on it and the contributions that goes along with it will make the number significant or not. Powell is wearing 26, he could be the main star whilst valencia with the famous 7 not live up to it. Players will make history not the number.
Samuel
What I said is about the consistent presence of that number on-field but not about how the player should be..
Ancha
No doubting Young’s abilities mate, big fan of his I am………Love how his whips the ball in with pace, I was on about Valencia……..Young plays on the left and that is a spot he will compete with Nani for in my opinion……Young does a better defensive job than Nani so the boss will use them both depending on how games are going and who the opposition is
Let’s be honest, if other wingers play to their maximum level then young will be spending more time on the sidelines. If his form is better then he’ll start but with the euro debacle, don’t be suprised if his confidence has been affected. Nani and valencia are better, they’ll start more often if their form on the pitch is up to the required standards. FERGIE is bound to switch formations, 4-2-3-1, consistent game might be scarce for some.
Young is a far better overall footballer than Nani is…….
Ancha – fair enough. Best give the number to de gea or Rooney then because i assume most other players will be rotated e.t.c, not many will consistently get on the pitch.
@Ancha
It’s not just his attacking play. Like Cedars said, Young’s all around game is better than Nani’s. And as we’ve come to find out in the last 12 months, that’s a crucial attribute for any winger playing in front of Evra. As we saw against Everton, if Evra doesn’t regain his focus soon, we will have no choice but to sacrifice playing both Valencia and Nani against any side that will remotely attempt to attack our flanks. So Young will play his part because like Park, he covers Evra’s backside.
Nani can do everything young can do (helping the full back, crossing blah blah blah) and yet still add further great dimensions. Nani at 25, i’d regard a world class footballer with great skill and imagination. He takes risks, he’s a match winner and no suprise there, he’s portuguese. Young is a good player but he’s no where nani in terms of overall talent. The stats are probably likely to prove it and watching both players for a while now (young at villa and nani at united) nani is the more gifted.
Nani turns out 1 in 10 and can frustrate the fuck out of us………Lets not get carried away and more importantly lets not get all snide as fuck
“and the Yank shouts ‘Remember the Alamo’ …and chucks out the Mexican!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07FdVcspOfQ A cracker from Brian Glover RIP .Happy independence day.
Based on current form, Nani will be starting ahead of Young, but come start of the season, it is anyone’s guess.
Btw, Nani never wanted No.7, I remember reading about it at least once. He prefered 17. Whether was it because it is his lucky number or was it because he didn’t want to be compared to Ronaldo, as Ronaldo would put it, only God knows =)
Somehow I feel we are just lacking 1 more energetic central midfielder to be complete. Nothing against Fletcher, but if he is still not able to train properly as of now, we can probably rule him out. As for Anderson, the less said the better, I’d be happy if he could just stay fit, let alone play well
Nani is amongst the World’s best wingers. He wouldn’t look out of place amongst ribery, robben e.t.c He’s an outstanding technically gifted player, he’s proven time and time again that he has the potential to be more and perhaps he might never do so but he has it in his locker. Young with all due respect is a steady, hardworking good winger, he can pull out a suprise but i wouldn’t expect him to do so. at 26, he’s at his peak and i’m afraid, he won’t offer anything more than he already does. Saying that though, young will play a major part next season.
Technically speaking? What the fuck is that all about?
The world must be a shit place for wingers then
@Marq: “Somehow I feel we are just lacking 1 more energetic central midfielder to be complete.”
Nothing mystical about that feeling – it’s blindingly obvious
“news” about Nani, but not that official, still in our site Manutd.com
http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/What-The-Papers-Say/2012/Jul/papers-nani-keen-to-stay-at-manchester-united.aspx
Its really sad to see Fletch go through all this. Wouldn’t wish what he’s going through on anyone but its horrible espescially that someone as dedicated, honest and red to the core as Fletch is going through this. Would love to say he’ll be back better than ever but nothing seems to be clear yet but I doubt he’ll be able to perform consistently at the top, with all the running he does with his condition. Anyway one can always hope. Get well soon Darren. Here’s to seeing you run out in the red of United again…
Would’ve preferred the number 7 had gone to someone with a bit of swagger and arrogance, but glad to see Tony V get it. Would be great to see a number 7 running down the right flank again
July 4, 2012 at 10:50
samuel – united WE stand says:
Nani can do everything young can do (helping the full back, crossing blah blah blah) and yet still add further great dimensions. Nani at 25, i’d regard a world class footballer with great skill and imagination. He takes risks, he’s a match winner and no suprise there, he’s portuguese. Hope Nani stays. I liked the way Portugal played at certain times. His role was a bit different to UTD but thought he did well. Against Spain during the opening half an hour he was the most dangerous player on the pitch. he did a turn where he was near the middle and made like he was gonna pass back, he back heeled it, spun and lost 2 midfielders, accelerated away from others before the Ref blew for a free kick. Not the best referee.
xol,
Don’t think Nani will leave mate. Its all media bullshit. Makes no fucking sense letting him go, it’ll also be a step backwards. If he can consistently bring his form from the Euros into next season he’s easily the best winger in the league. I also don’t think he has any desire to leave whatsoever. These rumors are all common when a big player is negotiating a new deal and I expect him to sign before the season starts. He still has 2 years left on his current deal anyway.
Peeps,
what the fuck is going on…with Nani that is?
i have a bad feeling about this one…
@Panderi: I think so too…remember Vidic’s wife?
Newcastle are chasing one or two midfiedlers and a striker..
Sir Alex: one or two things are going on, but nothing to tell you to be honest..
anyone thinks a newcastle player may be heading to OT?
Cabaya, Ba, Cisse, Tiote to name a few..
Xol,exactly!!!!!Young can never attempt that.Nani beat 5chelsea players before scoring,Young will never be able to do that.No comparism imo.
@Sandeep1878: I heard it there first

We need a player like Becks was, just look how accurate he is , just WOW, the reason I started supporting ManUtd.
David Beckham.

Jeet
I do remember Vidic’s wife mate
. I had actually started to believe he was likely to go, not because of his wife but beause he was getting into the last year of his contract, there were some strong rumors that Mourinho wanted him at Real and I thought he’d probably decide to leave. He also had some sort of nerve injury the previous season causing him to miss a lot of games and I remember Fergie saying once “I’m not sure when he’ll be back” or something like that. The media started saying Fergie had lost patience with him and I thought there might be some truth in it. Anyway I was at work, having a pretty bad night shift when the news broke out that he’d signed a new deal. Cheered me up instantly.
Well if Nani can do everything Young can do, then I wonder why Sir Alex clearly prefered Young during the last 10 games of the title run in. The one time he didn’t, we conceded 4 goals at OT. 2 came from Evra’s side and if I remember well, the crosses were by the Everton right back. The person the left winger is supposed to track back…
Not sure I like the sound of this. Normally SAF would be upbeat about a player returning. Hope he does but maybe there is a message regarding the reserves in his statement and Fletcher’s new role. Have to wait and see.
Pogba gone??? He probably came on here and read the comments about desperately needing players and thought fuck it I’ll be further down the pecking order. Good luck to him and personally I don’t care, I only care about the players we have.
Ashley Young, top player and thought he’d had a good 1st season. Nani’s attitude and decision making can be very frustrating at times, has as many shit games as good ones yet he’s called world class. Young has a couple of bad games and he’s fucking hopeless.
All the best fletch keep the faith son hope he gets back soon top player
AV7 ?
Would have preferred AVB but
young is overrated in my opinion and is miles behind nani.
squad player at best
Why are we comparing Nani and Young? They both play for United -.-
Sandeep @ 11:56: “anyone thinks a newcastle player may be heading to OT?”
Of that quartet – Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, Cisse – I’d think that Yohan Cabaye would be the most likely one.
Indeed, assuming that Cabaye would cost around 20 million, which is the same amount as Benfica are asking for Axel Witsel who is a box-to-box/more defensive player, there’s an interesting “philosophical” issue.
UTD don’t go for “destroyers” like Tiote but want a skilled guy who can get a foot in – like TheGingerNinja – but that guy has to be able to fight for the ball.
If the “philosophical” issue gets narrowed to looking for someone who could be considered a Scholes-replacement then Cabaye ticks the proverbial boxes. He won’t be cheap but he is already proven in the EPL.
If, however, the issue turns on other axes (pun intended !) then the key point to keep in mind is NoFletch/NoWin.
So, replacing which player – Scholes or Fletcher – is key ?
Marq @ 14:43: “Why are we comparing Nani and Young?”
Not all of us are.
Some people still think that Dimmy should be chosen ahead of DannyTheLad or Chicharito.
Some people, eh ?
@Denton: No disrespect mate, but you’re having a laugh if you think the geordies will let cabaye go for 20 mil (in a market where Baines goes for 17). If levy is supposed to be a tough SoB, mike ashley is no pussy either.
@Denton
I think most of us would agree that Welbeck deserves his place beside Rooney. Just the slight question mark of certain games that Berbatov could have come in for Rooney.
No disagreements on our winger front though. Once Young got his form, Nani was moved out of the way
And some people still want De Rossi.
The Scottish wonder is my favorit player, I really hope he will play for us again. We need that power, fight and enthusiasm in our midfield.
Poor arsenal keep on losing players. I really doubt whether they will stay in top 4 next season.
Costas @ 15:59: “And some people still want De Rossi.”
C’mon, admit it, if UTD could obtain Daniele De Rossi then it would get done in a NewYorkMinute and all of you guys would be cuming in your shorts.
@Denton
Trust me, it takes a lot more than that to get me excited! Not saying he’s a bad player by any means, but there are multiple reasons why it can’t happen. His age, his willingness (or lack thereof) to play in the Premiership and more importantly, his wages and price tag.
Costas – I know it can’t happen – won’t happen – but my point was that if it could happen then we’d all be over-the-moon AND TheLads would be a much, much stronger team. From what I can see “out there” there’s no one quite like Daniele De Rossi in regards to tenacity, skill, two-footedness and compete-level so having him in the squad would be like having a clone of Keane-o (c. 1998\9)
