Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and AC Milan are amongst the clubs who have recently won the FIFA Club World Cup, although the competition has been running since 1960, with Real Madrid the first team to win it, under its original name the Intercontinental Cup.
Liverpool lost in the final to Sao Paulo in 2005, meaning United, who lifted the trophy against Brazil’s Palmeiras in 1999, are the only British side to win the competition.
Sir Alex Ferguson is keen for us to win it again, wanting to add to his marvellous winning record with the club.
“We’re delighted to be going to Japan,” said Ferguson. “We are going there because we have won the Champions League, so I hope we’ll be playing in it for the next five years. We’re the only British team to have won it – and I consider that to be one of the club’s greatest achievements. There’s now a different focus on the tournament and it’s good that teams from Africa, Asia and elsewhere have a chance to take part. You can’t stop progress and this is a progressive step. The quality of the game has improved tremendously all over the world. It means an extra game to what the club has had in the past, but I think that’s important.”

Man Utd News 24/7

I know we will win!
I hope fergie will treat this competition wth every fibre of seriousness. I am a bit worried though about what will be a fruitless endeavor to travel that far and return empty handed. Pls fergie we want this trophy!!!
This isn’t even on my radar right now….all I care about right now is picking up 3 points at spurs this weekend…
I´d rather we return fresh and with no injuries than win it…
…and then 3 versus Stoke
This isnt even the same competition as the one we beat Palmeiras for
We beat Palmeiras for the Intercontinental Cup 1-0, Keano scored.
That same season we entered this competition instead of the FA Cup, adn we bombed, losing to Vasco Ded Gama, drawing with Necaxa and beating Melbourne
SteRDLK – it is the same competition, just with a different name.

The Intercontinetal Cup was just a one off game like the Charity Shield or the Super Cup, while the World Club Championship is a multi team tourny.
Yeah let’s go all out and win it. It is a prestigious trophy to win in my opinion, regardless of what some of the twats might say about it. The twat I am referring to is Graeme Souness. He was commenting on what a waste of a trophy it is to win – fucking scouse cunt. At least Ruud ‘Meelarrrn’ Gullit had the sense to counter that shit argument and say what a priviledge it is to win it and be regarded as the best club side in the world. He said that he won it twice with Milan, and when they went out to Japan for what was known as the Intercontinental Cup, they made every effort to win. Go for it United.
trophy is a trophy….and we should try to win EVERYTHING…..stll gutted we took the super cup as a training casual exercise..or we would have won that too
As has been said 3 points at Spurs and Stoke are more important to me.
As for the tourny, I hope it’s a chance for some of the fringe players to prove themselves.
SteRDLK u are wrong! this time round they combine Intercontinetal Cup and World Club Championship. we won the intercup before but not the other one which our ass is kicked. No more both of them this time… they are combined now. so we are the lst birtish team to win
