Ferguson: Becks, Nev, Scholes & Co. Idolised Cantona

Much is made of Alan Hansen’s infamous quote ‘you won’t win anything with kids’ at the start of the 1995-1996 season, with our lads going on to win the Double in May.

In the squad on the first day of the season were 20-year-olds David Beckham, Gary Neville, John O’Kane, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, and 18-year-old Phil Neville.

What seems to overlooked is that whilst our youngsters did really well that season, we did have Eric Cantona from October onwards, who scored in every other league game. But aside from his goals, it was his presence that had a massive impact. As Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed today, those youngsters idolised him.

Ferguson is doubtful over whether Wayne Rooney will be our captain though but it does beg the question, could our young players not idolise Rooney one day?

“It’s difficult for a forward to be captain,” said Ferguson. “Eric Cantona was because he was such an influence to young players, they idolised him. But normally you look at midfielders or defenders. Wayne will always take responsibility, he has a natural desire for that and will always give 100 per cent.”

Off topic i know but ….

Having read (and really enjoyed) this blog for a while I feel compelled to write my first post. I cannot believe how some are jumping on the hopeful demise of United. I usually rate the Guardian but it feels like they are all queueing up.

“This game could provide another piece of evidence that the old order is fading. Liverpool have already been beaten at White Hart Lane and the Manchester United squad is not as redoubtable as it has been in previous years.”

Fading of the old order!!!!! Unbelievable for some many reasons.

    Rooney for captain!

  5. Coogie says:

For me our next long term captain is either Fletcher or Rooney. I would put Vidic in the mix but I cant see him staying at United for a large period of time like the previous mentioned players

Me too mate. Absolutely worshipped the bloke. Still do in fact!

  8. samuel says:

i think surely wayne would be idolised and would also captain the team.though fletcher could fit into the captainship position perfectly.

  9. Stretford End says:

Eric has such an aura about him that I think you had to take notice of him. I remember Platini once saying (something along the lines) “I only think Eric is interested in scoring a beautiful goal” – indicating how Eric Cantona looks at life and how he performed on the football pitch. His technique and skill was breathtaking and had the knack – especially domestically – at scoring important goals at important times – something that you can’t teach.

I once heard a story that United were listening to offers from Blackburn about Scholes when Eric spoke with Fergie and reiterated his stance that United should keep – at all costs – Scholes. What a man.

  10. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

Let him take over after Fergie. I dont care if he has not managed before.
Most men couldnt walk straight in to the top job and succeed.
He is not a man , he is Cantona !

  11. Ishaq says:

Why cant we get Pep Guardiola? I like him. He endorses nice, entertaining football.

  12. Ishaq says:

Scott, write up an article of your view on Guardiola. And whether he would be appropriate.

I think we should snap him up before he signs a contract extension.

  13. theboogeyman says:

Ishaq-The answer to your question is:He loves Barcelona and won’t leave them.

  14. Bishopville Red says:

    Hold the phone lads!

Pep Guardiola did something fantastic last year, but he also walked into a near-perfect team. Let’s see how he builds or sustains success that can’t be tied directly back to his predecessors before we hand him the keys to Old Trafford.

    SB

  15. King Eric says:

calling for “Pep” after one season is silly. As the above post says lets see how he copes with adversity.

As for Eric, there is nothing else to say.

  16. aig alex is god says:

@ishaq.why do we need guardiola.dont we have our own players like ole.one good season does not mean you are a good manager.i admire barca and pep guardiola but the real test for him starts now.

  17. 20legend99 says:

Should Cantona be made manager, the seagulls would surely follow the trawler to Old Trafford. Let’s let Fergie pick, though I think Ole is being groomed for the job.

  18. Fze123 says:

guardiola wouldn’t leave barcelona to manage utd, he’s played in his team and just simply loves it. i thought it would be a good thing if mourinho could be our future manager, but i worry about what his intentions will be with our youth, and also our style of play would be completely different and changed.

from next season, Ole has to be fergie’s number 2, and fergie doesn’t need to retire, stay as manager until he’s 80. by then Ole will be 49 years, ready to takeover the manager role from fergie. i just wish this is possible.

our legends idolised Eric, there is no reason to why they shouldn’t have idolised such a player. i hope our young players do idolise the likes of giggs neville and scholes.

  19. cantona7 says:

yeah we dont need a manwith experience to succeed SAF,we just need a Cantona!

  20. TonyBee says:

Eric Cantona….. the biggest steal of all time….Leeds scum are you watching

  21. RedMist says:

I should have added that i still do.
As i’m sure is the case with the rest of you, i always will.
Agree that Cantona does not need managerial experience, his aura and footballing philosophy will be more than enough.

  22. vishnu says:

ole is united’s pep, not the “greatest” player., but a major influence on their side’s european success. not a major ” media” personality, but loved by the fans and the football purists.
Love their club, good with the youth and very good technicaly and tactically. I think Sir Alex, and united are almost waiting for edwin, scholes, giggs and neville to retire before giving Ole a chance, just to make sure that Ole doesn’t have to “manage” and “coach” players who are older, and have at united for longer. Soon, it will be his time.

  23. TK99 says:

Absolutely a Legend ,what a great player he was and what a great influence he had on our entire club. The fans still sing his songs and i really think he’s the best player who ever graced a football field( and i mean in the whole world). i was not fortunate enough to see BEST who was the best as a lot of the old fans say. For me it’s CANTONA and only CANTONA.
ohhhhh ahhhhhhhhhh cantonnnnnnaaaaa. wish i had your shirt.

  24. ashhotjet90 says:

Rooney is the future United captain . Let Rio be captain till he reaches the twilight of his career and then it must be Rooney . If one guy can lead a team by example , its Wayne Rooney .

  25. mo says:

i can imagine wayne rooney having that effect on youngsters whens hes in his twenties but now younsters are more in awe of scholes, giggs, rio players

  26. noqnoq48 says:

    @Fze123
Re your worries about Murinho’s intentions about our youth I’ve just watched an interview with Cannavaro, now with Juventus. He said he will not be surprised if Inter’s youngsters Balotelli and Santon seek a move after being omitted from the starting eleven.
As for SAF’s contention that midfielders and defenders are better placed on the field to lead there is no gainsaying it. However, there are always exceptions. Wasn’t Alfredo di Stefano Real’s captain?

  27. urval87 says:

    Off topic….
Am seeing City play…they’re playing with some spine…..edging out Arsenal right now

  28. Mikael says:

I think Rooney has all the material to captain United in a few years time but Fletch is just as capable and the thing that speaks volumes for him is his calm. Rooney still is at bit to hot for the armband. Fletch is tough as hell and he’s more and more looking like a future leader. Not a Keane since he’s not mental (no offence to Keane… loved the man) but just as passionate and in love with the club.

Cantona would demand the same respect from his players as SAF but I still would like a more proven manager… but you never know with Cantona… he’s not anybody ;o)

  29. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

How sid there keeper score an og

  30. Fze123 says:

    @noqnoq48

Yes, that’s exactly what I meant. If he doesn’t give the youth a chance at inter, then what use is he as a utd manager. He can get us trophies and can provide some fantastic style of football worth watching, but nurturing young players from the academy/reserves and bringing them into the first team is one of the things of what being a utd manager is about.

Regarding the captinacy topic, it should either go to rio, fletcher or rooney. I think for the moment it should be rio’s, then fletcher for captain when rio retires.

I just realize how sick City winning makes me – even more than Liverpool winning. I guess whats missing with Liverpool is the disgusting reliance on wealth to literally BUY success – very reminiscent of how the owners run their country. Just ranting!

  34. Mahesh says:

What the hell is going on in the City game. It is making me really unhappy!

  35. hurr says:

Oh god, Le Arse is getting thrashed by the bitters. This is not good for our coming game.

  36. Mahesh says:

I’m going to stick my neck out and say this – the next two games of the season (including the one tonight) will go a long way in determining whether we end up champions or not. I know its early in the season, and the season is long and all those cliches, but this is going to be a very very crucial couple of weeks indeed. I hope we’re up to the challenge!

  37. Costas says:

What’s going on, is that Adebayor should have been sent off! I hope the FA ban him upon video evidence.

  38. Corea says:

    Chelsea’ve scored another 90+ goal.

  39. Corea says:

“Arsenal have a lot of fans who are not fans,” he told The Times. “What is good is that the City fans truly love you.

“Arsenal have fans from America and Jamaica. Today they are Arsenal fans, tomorrow they will be Liverpool fans and after tomorrow they will be Manchester United fans.”

In a direct reference to the breakdown in relations between him and the Arsenal fans towards the end of last season, the striker added: “If you boo your player every weekend, I am very sorry, you are not true fans.”

He also remarked: “Arsenal forced me out.

“I told Arsène [Wenger, the Arsenal manager], ‘No matter what you do, I will not leave the club.’ Arsène told me, ‘You have to leave because financially we are very bad.’ That makes it more painful. Arsène knows I didn’t leave for money. Enjoying my football is more important to me than money.”

  40. MUFC the Religion says:

    Ref: Andre Marriner

  42. Costas says:

Scholes and Giggs? That’s a diamond shaped midfield. probably. Playing Scholes and Giggs in the centre is suicide. They will need the other 2 to help out.

  43. Costas says:

    Thanks for the lineup Corea

  44. Corea says:

    I believe in Paul, pal.

  45. Devilton says:

Good grief…what is going on? Scholes and Giggs.

Guess Rooney will be on the left again.

    Fucking hell…

  46. Mahesh says:

Two things: If Adebayor does not get banned, there is a serious problem with English football. Also, I will be watching very closely how Man City handle the issue. Any self respecting club would seriously discipline a player for almost causing a riot in their home ground. But then City is City. I would expect the same kind of atrocious celebration for Tevez if he were playing against us and scored.

Also, SAF really really is over complicating things. For godssake play OUR best team, don’t let the oppositions formation/form determining our lineup. It bothers me that the manager seems be thinking like we’re a team on the defensive. We’re good on our on SAF – let US dictate to the other side. We are defending champions after all!

  47. Drew Vader says:

what kind of shape will that be?? weird

  48. theboogeyman says:

God,I hope this team works out.

  50. theboogeyman says:

What did Adethewhore do?I missed the game.

  51. Mahesh says:

SAF is playing teams which can make him look like a genius, or a complete arse! Problem is, if he keeps on like this, the law of probability tells us that he is likely to come out as an arse as often as he comes out as a genious. Very reminiscent of FSW – lets see how this goes then shall we! Call me old fashioned, but can we just play a bloody 4-4-2 week in week out please???!!!

  52. Corea says:

He stepped intentionaly on Persie face and after scoring the goal ran to the Arsenal supporters.

  53. theboogeyman says:

    What the fuck?Seriously?

  54. theboogeyman says:

OK,Just read the Sky match report and it says he ran across the entire pitch. He should be fucking banned because he may have caused violence.

    PS:Thanks,Corea.

  55. Costas says:

He needs to get banned now! Anyway, the shape is probably an answer to Harry’s 4-3-3. I hope it works.

  56. Mahesh says:

Not to mention he ran the entire length of the pitch to the arsenal fans in front of the goal opposite to the one he scored into. I would expect the same off Tevez though in all honesty.

  57. theboogeyman says:

The RVP thing is not there on Sky though.

  58. Corea says:

Good luck to all of us and to the team. See you in 25+ minutes time..
    PS Vamos Rafa!

  59. theboogeyman says:

You expect Tevez to score,Mahesh??Tsk tsk.

  60. Corea says:

    * 45+

  61. Mahesh says:

theboogeyman – lol! I don’t, I fancy the chances the ball bounces of his shins and flies ten yards is much larger!

However, I am merely suggesting that City seem have acquired quite possibly the most bitter players in world football today…No class whatsover…And in the off chance he scores against us I do expect him to act like adebayor did. If he could do it as a United player, he definitely will while playing for City.

  74. toby says:

45 mins to go, but I take my earlier skepticism back – we’re playing as well as I’ve seen us play for a while. Berba playing extremely well, apart from that missed chance. He added: “It’s not so much that he’s been at one club all his career, more that you don’t see him on the front pages.

“It’s the way he talks to people, the way he deals with the pressure every day. He is like an ambassador for his club.”

  118. Tony Starks says:

AGreed about Vida – he looks like he’s having one of those games he has about twice a year, a red card waiting to happen!

  119. Mahesh says:

@Costas – I’m concerned about Crouch as well but you while he has caused us trouble, the up side is that the fact that he’s playing is what is giving us sooo much possession. Spurs are just lobbing it up to him from the back hoping for defoe to get onto the second ball…Which means while it causes us trouble once in a while, more often than not we get possession more often and faster than we would if crouch wasn’t playing…

  163. james f says:

Not every team will have such a great time at White Hart Lane. But then again, not every team has Sir Alex on the bench and Rooney up front!

  164. TonyBee says:

  170. mdubya says:

    @chaos red

long ball played to him which he ran onto it on the right hand side of the box slipped by one of them nutmegged hutton and slid it under their keeper that shit was awesome

  171. Jessie says:

    watching setanta…
commentator: “make no mistake about it, that was a championship winning performance from the champions”

  172. pedroo18 says:

Scholes is so much a team player that he choose to take himself out of the game, knowing it wouldn’t changes the result, and that it will allow one more player to be fully rest for the game midweek…

Also Rooney might be a good player for Manchester in the future…

  173. Farhan Borst says:

Sir Alex: “Scholesy, I want you to get a second yellow, so Spurs will throw everything at us and Wayne, you’ll score the 3rd goal.”

  174. Corea says:

Still don’t know what to make out of this game. Of a very good game for us.

  175. Mahesh says:

Super, top class performance against a dangerous team…brilliant brilliant performance. From foster (what a save) to Rooney (what can I say) we were superb. Scholesey almost wrecked what could have been an absolute rout had he stayed on. This is football I love!

  176. Sketch says:

Fletcher man of the match for me ! AGAIN !

  177. jcolas says:

    @Farhan Borst

    LOL

  178. fooart says:

the best match in this league till now…
    the champion are back…
    r u rrreeaaadddyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  179. spenlunc says:

But i like todays play than others..All players were so lively even after we were 1 down..wow fletcher turned out to be the best man on the pitch..

  180. Costas says:

Exactly Sketch. Fletcher was immense yet again! The team can’t lose with him in it! A great performance all throughout. We ll done to the lads. Now fuck Citeh!

  181. james f says:

Guys, don’t forget Evra. He may be short but today he was gigantic.

  182. spenlunc says:

Carrick seem annoying with incomplete passes and no creativity..

  183. hurr says:

The best match so far in the season. Glad the midfield looked alive again. Glad Anderson scored his debut Premier League goal at last! I was a bit nervous when Scholes were sent off but Rooney sealed the match for us. Now go and do it again against the bitters!

  184. Mahesh says:

fletch MOM again for me, but really what is Evra on??? He is absolutely unbelievable!

  185. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

LADS YOU KNOW I WONT BULLSHIT YOU’S
    I JUST WON 1300 EURO
    100 ON A 12/1

  186. Mahesh says:

GHTT – Congrats! What was this on?

  187. willierednut says:

Brillant performance by the lads, fletch, ando, evra and wazza were immensce. united in crisis your having a laugh sets up the derby nxt week bring on the bitters.

  188. willierednut says:

The drinks are on ghtt then lucky shit lol.

  189. Gazza says:

whats every1 on about with scholes….ref got it rong.
Ryan Giggs was head n shoulders above every1 tday

where are all these muppets sayin fergie shudnt pick him?

    United > england

  190. devilista says:

    I love Wayne Rooney.

    That is all.

    Cheers.

  191. Drew Vader says:

    Wayne was brilliant.

    Foster made that incredible save.

Evra was immense and never stopped running.

Fletcher was MOTM once again. A giant.

But the thing that stood out the most for me is how badly we outplayed them when we were down to 10 men. Awesome performance.

  192. Jessie says:

Yeah, Giggs was great…the only problem with him is that he is so hit or miss….I do hope Owen gets some playing time soon

  193. elblanco says:

to be fair i think the sending off was harsh he pulled out of the challenge but momentum followed thru. guys that was a top performance from the boys! when we needed players to step up (anderson you beaut!) they delivered, well done lads that is a very good 3 points we bagged, there are no more words to describe wayne ronney, just a class above im afraid and oh who’s lennon? paddy the best left back ever eats players like him for dinner!

  194. spenlunc says:

Berba looks good after those olden lazy days..Evra is excellent and our central defence is too good today after that scary opening moments..c’mon CHAMPIONS..

  195. hurr says:

That second yellow was weak. Scholes pulled out of it at the last minute and Huddlestone just milked it. Ref had already set his mind on Scholes reputation as a bad tackler and gave it anyway.

  196. MUFC the Religion says:

Apparently Lennon was playing but I didn’t see him ;)

Quality performance. Berba was quality and the spurs fans knew he would be, hence the booing.

  197. elblanco says:

    my thoughts exactly hurr!

  198. Jack says:

cant believe people are calling a legend like scholes stupid…was not even a yellow anyway, both went for the ball

  199. Rax says:

Lennon you may now get out of Evra’s back pocket. And go home.

  200. EvraKL says:

    evra evra evra evra evraaaaaaa

  201. fooart says:

    Lennon who?
    Evra ruled…

Anderson got a goal…and immense performance from him today…
    First of many…

  202. Azai Aki says:

Oooh! How I love Rooney’s goal!

  203. Costas says:

I think the biggest plus out of today, might have been Ando! We know how awesome Fletch, Rooney, Evra and Giggsy can be, but this could be a turning point for Anderson.

  204. fze123 says:

agree with Jack, how the fuck can you call the best player in today’s game stupid, when his second yellow was THE stupid decision made by the referee.

today’s performance was just great. if we keep playing like this consistently, then we may be on our way to no19. so happy for ando, he’s finally got his first league goal. giggs and scholes had a really good game because they were resting, had no internationals, i think. hope they play this way in every game they start.

bring on shitty now. a win over them would be even better than todays win.

  205. portugueseprincess says:

    We are Manchester United….always!

    P.S: I love you Giggs :)

  206. Sketch says:

Anderson played surprisingly well but that was to be expected when he played in his favourite role in attacking midfield. And Foster is finally playing with confidence, and put in a few fantastic saves. Fletcher, Rooney and Evra have all been great from the beginning of the season.
Vida had a dodgy first half and a few weak clearance but over-all didnt show any weakness against that cunt Crouch. Berba was amazing, should of scored. And the fact that Spurs fans booed him just proved that he had once again had a good game against them.

One negative. Carrick, he just is not improving. I dont want to see him named to play against Man City or in the champions league. The Carling cup game should be his way of getting his form back.
Scholes sending off was just plain stupid. But was expected with his rash tackling. The Referee was VERY fussy. And the Lines-men were shit, kept putting the flag up when it wasnt even offside.

  207. Mahesh says:

No one is saying Scholes is stupid, but his decision making when he’s not on the ball often is. Really, how many of us weren’t just that teensy bit worried once he got the first yellow? Scholesey on a yellow is always a worry! He was superb while he lasted today, but the point is that he gets himself into situations where you can do nothing but scratch your head and wonder why the hell he does that. The second yellow was harsh yes, but the only reason it was harsh was because scholsey tried to pull out. WHY he was trying whatever he was trying in the middle of the pitch in the first place is whats frustrating? Recent examples of the same off the top of my head: the hand ball against Fulham last season; the handball against Zenit last season; and the reckless challenge against Wigan on the last day of the season before last, where if he had been sent off we more likely than not would not have won the title. Add to that, I always want Scholes as an option in games and his being suspended doesn’t help!

  208. Tony Starks says:

Mahesh – this is the type of thing Scholesy is always capable of doing, ever since day one, so we just have to live with that really, just have to expect one or two red cards per season from him… but it’s a small price to pay for a magnificent footballer. What a guy!

  209. fooart says:

    chill mahesh…
he know he wont make 2 game in a row nowaday…
so now scholes is well rested and came back fresh in the next two games…
he done so much for this club that scholesy…and one or two poor decision making thats all that u can remember…and you call yourself this club fan…

  210. Mahesh says:

Tony – precisely! This is just how he is and he’s not likely to change, but sometimes I’m just left wondering what exactly is going on in the head of undoubtedly one of the most intelligent footballers with the ball at his feet! Which is why I don’t think anyone here intends to call him ‘stupid’. He’s not, only some of his decisions are, and always have been. But no matter what, you’ve got to love him. He is one guy who I seem to have infinite patience with!

  211. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Mahesh
    Nice one
100 on 12/1 on the 1-3 in the boozers bookies
my uncle just text me to congrates me
    he’s a liverpool lover
and the end of the text reads
“and thats how ya beat burnley”
so i just replied “didnt spurs play you’s off the park on day 1 ”
    still awaiting a reply
my man of the match was rooney
thou thats to do scholes not playing the whole game
and cause after the sending off berbatov ,who was by far my man of the match, dropped deeper
    but evra wow
    fletch wow
    giggs wow
    foster – englands answer
    anderson- keep these games up
manchester united where 89% amazing with 11 men
then got about 10% better with 10 men

  212. Jack says:

“is also one of the stupidest players off the bal”
“No one is saying Scholes is stupid”
    ?
alot of people up there called scholes stupid so what are you on about?
    anyway
when you play a 35 year old and a 34 year old and have 2 center mids playing as wingers and beat a team lkie spurs 3-1 then you know your just 2 good..all the 4 goals scored in that game were world class..scholes and giggs were different class…spesh scholes, his been brilliant so far this season.

  213. The Binocular says:

I am not entirely surprised by this.

Cantona has a magic about him, you can’t put your finger on it.

Nev, Scholes and the rest were young at the time.

Naturally they would look up to guy like that.

I think most people in Manchester idolised him.

Floyd Mayweather – allegedly a United fan – fights again next week

  214. Mahesh says:

Fooart – I honestly don’t appreciate you questioning my loyalty to this club or its players. I’m sure you wouldn’t appreciate it either if I questioned yours. So lets not go there. All I am doing here is informing everyone that when earlier in this thread, immediately after the sending off, people called scholesey ‘stupid’ the intention was to not call him stupid but to term the decision stupid.

  215. Mahesh says:

Jack – Scholesey makes some stupid decisions off the ball, and when on a yellow he’s always a worry. It has just always been a mystery why such an intelligent player on the ball often seems reckless off it. That is all that is being said (or at least that is what I am saying). I believe that is a fair enough and rather uncontroversial comment to make.

  216. Mahesh says:

    Bloody hell GHTT!!! Fantastic that!

  217. andsolskjaerhaswonit... says:

    Whooahh…!!

    Fletcher, U Beauty Son.!!

  218. Costas says:

I have to agree with Mahesh regarding Scholesy. He is 35 now, so i would think thet he has learned his lesson. Giggs is trying to work to his strengths and Scholesy should do the same. Rush tackling, especially after he has already been booked, is not one of them.

  219. toby says:

tackle was a 50-50 and both players went for the ball, yet scholes is the one who gets punished? where is the sense in that?

  220. Anon says:

can anyone post a link to all the goals from today? saw only Rooney’s. Want to see what Giggsy and Ando did! :D

  221. fze123 says:

    “scholes is stupid…”
“Scholes you idiot ! Why did he get himself sent off. We are already stuggling and now we have to play with 10 men !”
“Scholes – one of the most brilliant players on the ball I’ve seen, is also one of the stupidest players off the ball…he can singlehandely lose us games…reminds me of the stupid handball send off last season…”

comments from above. seriously guys, his sending off was harsh. he shouldn’t have got the second yellow card, it’s so obvious. we all know he can’t tackle, but please be more respectful .

  222. Kevin says:

This is the Adebayor video. Van Persie is saying it was intentional. Intentional or not it is a nasty tackle and he should be get some retrospective fine or suspension. Hard to read intent but from one angle it sure does look like he kicked out and got RVP in the head. What do you guys think?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW1KEz8Aezs

  223. hurr says:

Scholes’s decision making is worrying sometimes. Funny that his goal tally for Man United is only like 7,8 goals short of Giggs but the same can’t be said for red cards tally LOL (Giggs – 1 for Wales, none for United).

  224. King Eric says:

Come on lads Scholesy is 35 now. He aint gonna change at that age. Never a sending off anyway. Fucking great result today, the lads look like they are back. Rooney is just………………….well I can’t find enough superlatives. Fletch same again. Like many have said the real plus point was Ando’s performance and goal. Just think this was with 10 men. I said three one yesterday on here if people want to check. Just too good for those bottling cunts. Wish Vida had smashed that dipper reject Crouch. Facing up to Nemanja the monster. He would have killed the lanky bastard. Foster really is cementing his place. Where are all the doubters? Berba was excellent first half as Keegan said! Just imagine if we had Nani and Valencia tearing down the wings. I also said yesterday that Lennon is over rated and Evra would have him in his arse pocket. Quite surprised actually to see people slagging Carrick. He only played 20 mins or so. Beat those arrogant citeh cunts next week and show everyone that “We’ll never die”!!!

  225. King Eric says:

gotta hate – Well done lad!

  226. King Eric says:

PS Wonder if we will see any Gooners on here today? Apparantly they were all over Citeh second half then just fell apart. Not worried about City next week. 3-0 United.

  227. King Eric says:

Any one who questions SAF needs to just look at his selection today!

  228. Chris20LEGEND says:

should of been over at half time, dissapointed we wont have scholesy for the city game next weekend, taught fergie would have taken him off at half time, vidic as absolute rubbish in the first half, terrible deffending, could have easily been sent off aswell early on,

hopin we start with that 11 against besiktas on tuesday…

scholesy had two tackles over the whole game and he got sent off, how many times did crouch and others tackle fletch and ando and got nothing for it, shit ref and dont get me started on that linesman, rooney was onside twice and he was called off, bleedin joke..

best performance so far this season,

anyone hear around 28mins “Hes gona die, Hes gona die, Malcolm glazer’s gona die” nice to hear it, its been a while…

  229. Costas says:

Thanks Kevin. That’s a disgrace! And Van Persie was 3 months away his teammate! Imagine if Tevez tries this against Rooney or anyone else. Adebayor should get a 3 match ban at least. That moment changed the game

  230. denton davey says:

SAF’s selections are always surprising – but usually work !

Today, Scholes was terrific in the first half but in the minutes after his first yellow card it was obvious he tiring. He should have been substituted WHETHER OR NOT the second incident happened.

Fletcherinho was again terrific; same goes for Rooney and Evra. These three were MOM – only Solomon could divide the honours between them.

Anderson and Giggs, too, were in great form. And, Foster’s save from the Jenas drive was most excellent – otherwise he didn’t have much to do and couldn’t be expected to save the surprising overhead volley from Defoe.

The second half of the first half was the best UTD have played for a long, long time – perhaps since the 7-1 demolition of ASRoma. The passing was scintillating and the speed of play exhilirating. I was thrilled and if this is how they deal with the loss of the world’s best player – bring it on !

  231. denton davey says:

Adebayor had a fantastic game for ManShitty – but he should have been red-carded and sent to Coventry for a long, long time for his malicious kick at Robin van Persie.

It will be very, very interesting to see if the FuckAll fine him for his post-goal “celebration”.

  232. fooart says:

any repeated performance from today game citeh wont be a problem…
but they sure played quite well also…
keep fletcher and ando in midfield and berbatov drop deep…we can control the midfield…

    @king_eric
everyone questioning the formation before the game started…and said that the boss has gone wierd with the tactic…
does they not realised now they always eat shit later for not trusting fergie…
cause the boss always right…In Fergie We Trust…
Look what had happened to Fletcher…Fergie trust him…from non bench player…to bench warmer…to midfield monster…
people used to look up for keano for inspiration…now they look to Fletcherino…

  233. King Eric says:

fooart – “keep fletcher and ando in midfield and berbatov drop deep…we can control the midfield…” Spot on pal.

  234. King Eric says:

One last thing. How many other teams do you know that if they were WINNING 2-1 and reduced to ten men would attack for the remaining 30 plus minutes?

    None.

  235. King Eric says:

Sorry to keep posting but just saw this comment on the Times site and HAD to show you it! It is quite unbelievable. Another one said Rooney is just a “workhorse” like Tevez!

    Richard Belcher wrote:
Greatest player in the world Carlos Tevez.
Everywhere he goes his teams win championships.
    Boca Jr. League title/world champs
Argentina Olympic champs and MVP with most goals scored ever.Beating Messi by 3 goals.
    West Ham’s saviour
    Man United champion twice.
Build a team around the lad and he will score goals. Ronaldo was useless on defense worthless and cost many goals. while Tevez stole the ball and harrased the defense endlessly to force bad balls which Ronaldo scored from.
Just because he is not the go to guy Ronaldo was is not a sign of excellence his attitude and work rate and the way he energized the team won the championship. Your socalled hero Ronaldo missed his free kick in Moscow and Tevez railed his in just walked up and banged it in.

pitty because he will miss the game at old trafford , the fans will haunt him in his nightmares

a shitty fan said that rooney lacks teqnical class LOL all he does is work hard its tevez is a work horse but lacks everything else. tevez is a joke of a player, and I have said enough of that waste of space how crap he is and how much tevez is a fergie flop. I went on the redrant site and that grognard is really pissing me off I cant sign up for the site soe reason just to shut the idiot up, he has got no clue on the game what so ever, he said in summer of 2008 that united should sell rooney, they guy has no clue what so ever about how the game is played. grognard if you are reading respond to this because he shows why he is canadian. has for the game today the only downside was man city liverpool and chelsea won. I wonder how matt lawton feels didnt he say that fergie has got far more to worry about then arsenal, well if winning 3 1 easy was not enough to say who has got more to worry about he needs a wake up call.

  239. Park, Park, wherever you may be says:

watching motd, creaming my pants so far! I’ll prob change the channel 4 the chelsea game!

  240. manutdchampions2008 says:

    King Eric
Richard Belcher putting tevez in the same sentence has ronaldo is enough comedy for one day. oh yea he should remember who scored the goal in the final ronaldo not tevez. and the reason why united won the title in 2008 and 2009 was because of vds brown ferdinand vidic evra scholes giggs ronaldo rooney they were the main men not tevez. tevez scored 27 goals ronaldo in that 2 year period scored 74 goals rooney scored 42 and add his assists. united could have got a better striker in summer of 2007 like a torres and united may have won the league earlier.

  241. Jandsdad says:

watching motd and had to laugh at alan ‘mary poppins’ shearer saying how adebayor’s emotions were high when talking about running at le arse fans, lineker asking was it ok to kick opponents in the head in the heat of the moment too. I reckon he was having a sneaky dig about shearer booting steve lomas in the head a few years back

  242. bigphil2003 says:

Adebayor is an eejit, but to be fair to him these arsenal fans were booing him when he played for them so theres nothin wrong with stickin it to them. If they are such animals that a player celebrating can incite riotous behaviour then they have the problem, not him. His kick of rvp was bad though and is a clear cut 3 game ban if i ever saw one.

As for scholes, huddlestone got him sent off by holding his face like that but lets be honest its not the first time scholes has been reckless after being booked. At times he is an idiot, just so happens more often hes a genius.

Team played well today, very impressed as it was a tough game.

  243. King Eric says:

Manunitedchampions2008 – You mentioned Grognard. You want to hear the shit “Danny from Wilmslow” comes out with on the Manchester Evening News site. If you get a minute just have a look mate.
