Ahead of Manchester United’s UEFA Super Cup against Zenit St Petersburg in Monaco, opposition manager Dick Advocaat has lavished praise on Sir Alex Ferguson.
“He’s not just the top manager in Europe, he’s top of the world,” Advocaat said. “You can’t work at that level and stay with one club for so long if you do not have exceptional qualities, it is so difficult. So, for me, he is the best manager in the world and the one everyone else has to look up to. I know Sir Alex but I haven’t played against him, so I am looking forward to the game which I know will be very difficult.”
Which managers do you think rival Fergie for this title?

Well, for me it would have to be those oldtimers like Advocaat himself, Guus Hiddink, Giovanni Trappatatoni, maybe Fabio Capello and German Ottmar Hitzfeld. But none is greater than Sir Alex.
And the young men José Mourinho and Arsenè Wenger are not even close. Maybe if they continue for a decade more or so. Still, they wouldn’t get close to Fergie. Make no mistake about it; we will miss the General when he’s gone.
nobody!
Capello maybe. He’s achieved success almost everywhere he went.
Although I agree with Advocaat.
Not only the best manager in the world, but the best in the world of any era. He turned us back into the greatest club in the world and set a benchmark which re-shaped the modern British game.
on par with the greatest, no doubt, sacchi, clough, lippi, capello, hiddink maybe…but has to win a world cup/ euro tournament to be considered the de facto greatest…
or maybe an olympic games gold
only jock stein n clough can compare with him
