We have been linked to Kaka and Ribery over recent weeks but Sir Alex Ferguson has today insisted that there is nobody in particular that we are looking to sign this summer.
“We won’t be going for a lot of players ourselves this summer, that is a fact,” said Ferguson. “We have a big squad at the moment and I can honestly say there is no one we have actually identified that we want to bring here at the moment. We have had a look at quite a few players over the year, as we normally do, but we are not looking to add a lot of players to our squad.”

Man Utd News 24/7

if we sign Tevez well & good otherwise we definitely need a replacement for him.other than that may be a few may be sold or may go on loan.we definitely have a strong bulky squad.
We don’t need anybody. We have enough players in the squad.
Fingers crossed for Tevez!
see rafa… THATS a fact
ARGENTINA!!
I don’t think we have any players on the radar as we will be signing Carlos Tevez. His hard work and never say die attitude is an example to everyone.
i hope we sign benzema instead of ribery or kaka..
we already have good midfielders and we should buy a clinical finisher and that is benzema..
being in the best team in the world will teach him how to be loyal to United and i can’t see any player will have a dream to play for madrid, barca maybe..
Antonio Valencia a is done deal, isn’t it?
And a replacement for Tévez, if he leaves.
Otherwise, with Hargreaves back, we should be OK.
I just got a lovely warm feeling imagining sorting out the Tevez affair. His performances would surely improve knowing he wasn’t some kind of footballing orphan. Plus, Dimi’s gonna be awesome next season – settled in, full pre-season done….nice
Mmmmmm! Just another Fergie smokescreen? I think Carlos should be signed, although his first touch seems to have failed him this season, his never say die attitude, is united through and through! I personally would really love to see Franck Ribery playing for us next season, he is fuckin brilliant. Imagine Ribery on the left and Ronaldo on the right, with Rooney and Teves/Berba through the middle! That prospect is mouthwatering to me, but i feel that Ribery will be priced too high for us. We can always dream though, i know Rooney has being played recently on the left, but i feel we need a specialist to replace Giggs. Nani is not the man yet?! Will he ever be? We still have alot of squad players coming through, but Tosic hasn’t been setting the world alight in the reserves, so imho we need a world class winger on the left. That man is Franck Ribery.
I think we’ll sign 1, maybe 2 players at most – but I think Fergie’s words are a smokescreen for players we are after. If Tevez leaves, we will need a cheaper replacement. It will also be interesting to see if any of our older players decide to hang up their boots at the end of the season.
We need to buy the little Argentian our tireless little red Carlitos “the Fort Apache Superstar” Tevez. We will miss him if we let him slip away. Benzema would be the only Striker worth a large wedge other than that we are pretty sorted.
i love john oshea
gary neville is to united as much as sir ryan himself
and da silva is the future
but i wouldnt mind a full time right back united have 4 players that fit in there rio vidic evra but id love to have a full time right back name with a cover, not just to have cover for the cover
up the hammers
Benzema? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When has he proved this “world class finishing”that people bang on about?
Don’t want that little freak Ribery either.
Rooney is another messi on the left wing.. Noticing that he can play on either winger and striker, he’s brilliant.. btw, he looks dangerous whenever he is on the left wing.. I guess our left winger can be rotated and we don’t need another “world class winger” in our side..
We need two signings for next season, a right back to replace Gary Neville and a defensive midfielder. I got two in mind; great players with a lot of experience and the best thing they wont cost a penny.
Gman: Brown is going to be our regular RB again & Rafael will also get some of the games.we also have an ever improving Fletch as dmf & Hargo to return.
Yeh Wazza i was just talking about those two; Ws and Hargo
We dont need any other
IF Carlitos isn’t re-signed then I can see a “journeyman” striked being signed. I’m not sure that Campbell/Manucho/Kiko/Welbeck have the right stuff to be relied on. But, then again, SAF has always been willing to give youth a chance so perhaps he’s happy with this “depth”.
Maybe – but if not then I would still argue that Mikey Owen would be a fine addition – sure, he’s had a long history of injuries but he’s also had a long history of scoring goals whenever he gets to play on a regular basis. I wouldn’t judge anything by his time at Newcastle because that atmosphere is toxic and the team is non-functional.
I’d still like to see Daniele di Rossi since the other “first choice” midfielders are a cut below his quality.
id like to c benzema playing for us next season…can u imagine rooney, benzema, and ronaldo upfront?would be much more devastating forward than barca trio now henry, messi, eto’o…wish hargo got well next season, or another strong DM would be great addition..
I’d say get a specialist left winger, and ribery should definitely come if ronaldo leaves. I don’t like Valencia. How bout jesus navas. Had a decent showing in the euro.
We will need a striker if Tev isn’t kept.Other than that,we are ok.
@denton davey:Mikey Owen played for the dippers.Other than that,I think he would be a good signing .
@King Eric
Well said. Benzema plays in a shite league. When he plays in the Champions League he doesn’t do much.
I actually wanted to sign Benzema but when I heard him say how much he wanted to play for Real Madrid I thought “We’ve already got one of those lads playing for us already. I couldn’t stand having another one!”
We don’t need clinical finishers. The team we have got is enough.
When we had a clinical finisher as in RVN out who system changed accomodate him. I’d rather keep the system we play as it is successful.
@theboogeyman
Michael Owen would spend more time in the treatment room!
We already had someone like that – Mr Glass. We soon got rid of him.
Yes he was a very good stiker when he was fit. Other than that forget it!
I think the key places for next season is midfield key as Giggs will be a year older but still mobile however Scholes is my main concern as he’s showing signs that he won’t last a full season and his main contribution will be as a subsitute or against lesser teams. Ribery would be a nice addition as playing on the left would free Rooney to play further upfield .would SAF pay £63 million? Is he worth that? No! I wouldn’t pay more than £40 million. Remember we still have the attacking midfield players like Tosic and the other Serb to come back and fight for a 1st team spot. I’m also hoping Nani has a good look at himself and realize how privallege he is to be at such a successful club. He needs to fulfil his potential and look at howRonaldo has done it as he has a lot to contribute.just imagine for a second if he started to play consistently with his ability like Ronaldo! He could quite easily get 10-15 goals a season. And creating 10+ in assists.he needs to use his brain more and show character and hard work. I’d also like to see Foster as no 1 goalkeeper and VdS as no 2. He has the qualities to become a great goalkeeper and know that there’s experience as back up. The main thing for SAF is to keep CR7 and extend his contract. That would send a positive message to the fans, players and to Madrid that we are the number 1 club in Europe and the world, and that we are serious about defending our titles again.
LOL. He been saying that since the past couple of seasons.
Oh yeah I’m expecting big things from Fraser Campbell, Wellbeck and Macheda. Although Campbell may be loaned out again and Manucho will probably too. Let’s hope SAF signs Tevez and if not Benzema.
Benzema is class! He doesn’t do much in the CL ? Remember the goal he scored a year ago and the game at OT where we didn’t have a chance to take the ball of him.
SAF is so interested in him as he was with Torres. Look where is Torres now. But the whole story about Real makes this possible transfer not so pleasant one.
And the news from today is Danny’s return to the club. I like him, i really do.
In spite of the fact that Sir Alex has said this it won’t stop the media from linking us from every tom, dick and harry. I remember the summer when we sold Van Nistlerooy and the press linked us with every striker under the sun even though the boss said he wouldn’t be doing any further business after Carrick and Kuzzy.
I can foresee one signing this year: Carlitos. Only thing that would change that is Ronaldo running off to Real Madrid. We’ve got such a complete squad and a good group of youngsters like Tosic, the Da Silvas etc. coming through. We really don’t need any further depth. This is the middle not the end of a cycle. There are already lots of players who can come in and replace our aging faces. How many players have we used at right back and centre mid this year?
Best squad ever. If it ain’t broke. Why try and fix it?
“Best squad ever. If it ain’t broke. Why try and fix it?”
because every year isn’t like the previous one. we can’t rest on our laurels we have to develop. how, using the youngsters or buying someone SAF knows best.
for me the idea of giving a chance to Fraizer, Kiko and Wellbeck is very attractive but who knows where the truth lies..
I agree with Corea – each new season is a new challenge; some players improve, some players get injured; a few new players are added and a few older ones leave. The mix changes and we have all seen how difficult it has been for SAF to get the attacking mix right this year.
It seemed like Berbatov was going to radically enhance Rooney’s game and that that would have a knock-on effect for Ronaldo by dividing the opposition concentration because they can’t effectively double-team two men. But it hasn’t happened that way. AND the recent evidence has been that whenever Berbatov gets on the field the speed of the game slows down and Ronaldo/Rooney become less effective.
SquarePeg/RoundHole ????
Perhaps this example is not based on a large enough “sample size” and perhaps TheBerbatovEffect will come good next year. Obviously, SAF thinks so; and Carlitos must believe that SAF is planning to keep him marginalized in trying to make TheBerbatovEffect happen.
Yeah, I know – L’il Mikey used to play for LFC and he has a terrible history of injuries but he’d come for free (I know – big salary !) and he also has a long history of scoring frequently at the top level – for the Vermin, for Ingerland, for TheVirus before finding himself at EntropyUnited. Mikey knows the way to San Jose and I don’t believe that he wouldn’t make a wonderful “replacement” of OLEgend, brought on in the last minutes of matches when the bus has been parked and a fox-in-the-box (if not an Inzaghi) is sorely needed.
\united4eva I dont agree if it aint broke why fix it…Football is forever growing we cannot get complacent teams will strengthen and for us to be at the top we have to strengthen season on season to keep winning things, You should always build on what u got and not be satisfied with what u got, thats why fergie is a winner.
I can’t really name anyone but I do reckon we’ll bring in at least one new face.
Will be nice to have Owen Hargreaves back though.
Can understand why Fergie would say that with the 1st teamers plus the youngsters coming thru, and with the likes of Hargreaves and Brown to come back and Berba having a full season as a utd player under his belt.
Theres 2 things I would look at and that would be to tie down Tevez and look at Ribery/Ben Arfa.
@corea Benzema at OT? That was over a year ago. He should have progressed since then, but now he can’t even get in the France first team. You cannot compare him with Torres, Torres was doing it regularly at International level even before he came to England
@ Tony Starks
Benzema is 20 ? What age did Torres came to England ? 24 ?
Lyon didn’t have the best of seasons and every single striker has it’s own path.
I’m not saying BUY HIM, but i don’t understand the pessimism here about the player based on the not so good season Lyon is having.
I agree with alot you say denton but once again NOT Owen… He has not done anything for years, completely over rated, I know his goal record for Ingurlund is good but come on, he aint fit to pull the United shirt on. Never liked the little twat and he lives off that goal against the Argies. No way!!
Ben Arfa – Are you having a laugh?
