Fletch: Keane and Scholes Tore Me To Shreds – Not Lampard, Fabregas or Gerrard

Darren Fletcher has been receiving praise from all over recently as he goes on to prove himself as one of Manchester United’s most important players.

Long hailed as a ‘big game player’ by our fans, the 25-year-old has now raised his game for every match, and topped that off with a blinding goal against Everton at the weekend.

He has today claimed that when playing against the ‘big four’, no midfield opponent has ever torn him to shreds, although Roy Keane and Paul Scholes have hammered him on the training ground.

“I don’t want to sound big-headed but I’ve never come up against anyone who has torn me to shreds,” said Fletcher. “The only time that’s happened has been in training against Roy Keane and Paul Scholes. I watch how good Lampard, Fabregas and Gerrard are but when we play them I think ‘Right, I’m going to see how good you really are! I’m going to get against you and see how you like it. And when you’ve not got the ball I’m still going to get about you and see how you like it. I’m going to ask you ‘Do you fancy it? Do you like getting kicked? Do you like the fact I am going to be at you for the whole 90 minutes?’ As soon as you get the ball I am going to be in your face. You are not going to like it one bit. Are you ready for that because that’s what’s going to happen’.”

By far the most improved player in Europe, got head down worked hard and forced his way into the side with effort and comitment, ar you watching Anderson and Nani?

  2. spacemanspiff says:

    Darren Fletcher == Football genius

  3. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

I guess we know our starting centre midfielders if fletch can only be beating by scholes , do I really need to post a link again to Emily singing Darren Fletcher football genius , I seem to do that for some reason or another at least one every 2 days

  4. aig alex is god says:

People ridicule me when i tell them he is one of the finest in Europe. They say he has no class or flamboyance or skills like some others. People forget that cesc, gerrard and lampard are more attack minded players.Players like fletch, essien never get the credit they deserve. They do the dirty work really well. Fletch is not flamboyant or skillful but does the simple things really well. You dont have to be a ronaldo or kaka to be a good player. He can pass the ball well,GET STUCK IN and frustrate opposition players(ask wenger),and make brilliant runs in the box.He is replacing Roy Keane IMO.

also it should not be a surprise that fletcher has missed 7 of our last 9 games when we have been beaten and did not deserve to be on the losing side at Chelsea.

  5. maci says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  6. ROONEY'S TURN TO EAT says:

  7. can united score? they always score says:

he’ll be up there with legendary keano (IMO) in few years time

  8. ramsey done ya says:

Yeah right Fletch, you are almost as funny as chevvy chase. Gerrard and Fabregas cant do you, yet young Aaron Ramsey tore you a new one last week! You were publicly humiliated – did anyone see Ramsey’s goal where he went through Fletch like he wasnt there? I guess the moral of the story is dont talk sh*t!

  9. PG says:

He got fucked over by Aaron Ramsey in the Wales -Scotland game. Its sad when people start believing their own hype.

  10. Redbeard says:

“As soon as you get the ball I am going to be in your face. You are not going to like it one bit. Are you ready for that because that’s what’s going to happen’.”

    Brilliant! The new Keano

  11. the scottish wonder says:

  12. spanky says:

Happy Birthday GHTT hope you get your present tonight in the liverfools match

  13. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Thanks mate
I got a fantastic top off Emily this morning of the training top that was worn by Evra in that funny pre match interview and a Giggs Tshirt bought off this site
do my girls know how to start a guy off on the right foot

  14. King Eric says:

PG – Fuck off you gooner prick. The same Fletch that absolutely owned your midfield the last 3 games. If only Arsenal had a player like him eh? Why are you always on here anyway? Nowt to do with your mob.

gotta hate – Is your birthday the 24th? So is mine mate.

As for Fletch what more can be said. WILL become the new Keano over the next few seasons. To think alot wanted him sold to Everton when they came in with 10 million. Him and Phil Neville gone would have been a travesty.

  15. King Eric says:

PS I find it hilarious the amount of United “fans” saying we should go for Defoe on the back of Sunday’s game. Great finisher no doubt but has one decent game every six and not keen on his attitude.

  16. King Eric says:

gotta hate – Same to you pal.

  17. aig alex is god says:

    Ghtt.

  18. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

quote a dipper on the way to the match on sky sports news
“we need a win, but with liverpool when we need a win we usally do quite well” has the guy not watched this season at all
also on sky sports news it says
if the dont get into the last 16 its worth 8 million
    last 8th 4 million
    semi final 12 million
get to the final from 12 upto 40 million depending on gate and if they win the final
thats not gonna happen but it shows the money United have made from 1 comp in the last 2 seasons

  19. WHO says:

    happy birthday ghtt

also do you not know its liverpools year, their name is on every trophy

    @ PG,

“Its sad when people start believing their own hype.”

Yeah, almost as sad as when people condemn players on one performance!

  22. Muggaz says:

    happy birthday lads.

That interview made me smile – and you Welsh Gooner prats waxing lyrical about Ramsay, thats fukn Scotland, everyone knows United > Scotland, Ramsay wouldn’t get a snif in the premier league against Fletch, so fuck off.

  23. bigphil2003 says:

It’s funny the amount of people calling Fletcher crap because he had a bad game in an international friendly in a crap team. Big fucking whoop

  24. SULLY says:

Haha RedBeard that was classic. Darren Fletcher is a magnificent player, say what you want, he’s no Roy Keane though. That man had everything in his locker. Make no mistake I ai’nt trying to knock Fletch down, but Keano was from another planet all together. I just wanna make it clear there’s no competition with Keano. But Fletch is still by far the best holding midfielder in the league nonetheless. GHTT and King Eric happy birthday to you’s. Hope you got many more to come.

  25. WHO says:

sorry king eric, happy birthday to you also

  26. BD says:

    Brilliant!

  27. kyith says:

i think that piece just showed how much confidence is running through him now. i still wonder if scotland is really taht shit or are we hyping him up too much.

the best holding midfielders around are essien, mascherano, palacios. song have improved much that he is not far off from fletcher in my opinion.

    happy for him as well.

  28. PG says:

Nowt to do with my mob…it just flashed on my newsnow because the article mentions Fabregas. Anyways, his mentality is out there in the open.. he is not trying to play football.. he is trying to stop people from playing football through his kicking. Darren Fletcher is the doyen of anti-football. Nothing to be proud about methinks

  29. aig alex is god says:

    @PG

what did patrick vieria do? why did wenger always rave about him.no wonder you are shitting since he left and not won anything. The wait will continue. Dream On!!!

  30. King Eric says:

PG – Every WINNING team, note I emphasised the word winning needs players like Fletch. The scousers of the seventies and eighties with players like Souness and Nicol up to the Fascists with Makele. Nowt flash but get the job done. As I say perhaps if you had a player of this ilk insted of little boys you may actually win summat.

Thank you for the Birthday wishes lads.

  31. King Eric says:

gotta hate – Those stupid fucking Scouser’s seem to forget that even if they win 10-0 it is NOT in their hands.

  32. redline says:

Top comments by Fletcher…he is now showing his true worth to the team…the least you could do Scott is to credit where they came from…which is the latest issue of United We Stand fanzine…you can read the full interview by Andy Mitten there.

  33. King Eric says:

kyith – What the fuck? Are you saying that Mascherano, Palacios and Song are better than Fletch? Fletch isn’t a holding midfielder anyway but a box to box player. Those three ain’t fit to lace Fletchs boots. Javier “I can only pass sideways ” Mascherano and the big lump Palacios. You are having a laugh mate.

PS Sorry for multiple posts but I tend to read the comments one by one and reply individually before I forget what to type. Then I keep reading down and thinking “Oh I must reply to that”.

  34. Red Army says:

that Fletch statement is legendary. We’ll never die. Give him captaincy right now.

  35. theboogeyman says:

Happy birthday to King Eric and GHTT!

Fletch is a monster and the current most important player at United.

  36. Giles Oakley says:

Many Happy Returns to GHTT and King Eric (Neil?), may all your birthday dreams come true, especially those involving United!

Ramsay did well against Scotland, that’s for sure and we shouldn’t try to take that away from him. Good player, pity Gary Neville’s persuasive powers let him down when the kid came to Old Trafford. But in the long run I still think he’ll come to regret going to Arsenal instead of United when he had the chance. It suggests a slight failure of nerve, choosing a smaller club when he felt there would be less competition and it would be easier to break through to the first team. The irony is, since Ramsay joined the Gunners from Cardiff, United have given chances to a whole new crop of kids in all areas, defence, midfield and attack, all making their mark, some winning Premiership medals, more picking up the League Cup as well. In the same period Ramsay and his team won precisely jack-shit, and he must have squirmed to see United destroy them in the Champions League. Things change rapidly in football of course, so maybe the young Aaron will soon pick up silverware, but I bet that in his lifetime Arsenal never supplant United as the best-known English team in the world, whatever he achieves on the pitch. Just think, he could have been a contender.

  37. manchuchu says:

Fletch may not be the complete package like Keano… but then again he isn’t certifiably insane sometimes like Roy is and probably won’t go out trying to end people’s careers.

That being said with a Keano on the team…you want him on your side. Same goes for Fletch.

The gooners can keep their ballerinas.

  38. Redbeard says:

    PG

“Darren Fletcher is the doyen of anti-football. Nothing to be proud about methinks.”

Doesn’t matter, he’s got all those MEDALS to be proud of!

(Medals are the shiny little round things they give to players who win things. For more information on winning things, be sure to check out any of the recent Manchester United Season in Review DVDs)

  39. NickOGS20 says:

That goal on Saturday sure was befitting of a ‘doyen of anti-football’…

Arsenal would kill to have a player like Fletch in their side, he’d make an almighty difference, and deep down, beneath the smug ‘we play the bestest football ever’ exterior, all their fans know it.

  40. sanj says:

Happy birthday, GHTT and King Eric.

PG, newsflash. The reason your beloved Arse can’t win sh*te is because they don’t have any players like Fletch. All your pretty boys can’t perform when they have a player like Fletcherinho in their faces for 90 minutes (as he said himself). Whenever a team gets in your team’s face, you fall to pieces. Then Wenger will cry to the media that it’s “anti-football,” when in actuality, it’s your team’s total lack of midfield bite.

  41. aimanunited says:

Fletcher = almost a legend… lets change christmas to 24…

  42. Datnana says:

Fletcher the butcher!!! That’s the spirit.

  43. VSK says:

Dont need to change anything, just hop on over to Norway where we celebrate it on that exact day : )

  44. kyith says:

King Eric, what i notice here is a tendancy for fans to be bias and overrate their own players.

If u watch closely Song and Palacios are doing the similar things to what fletcher is doing. in the sense, they fill a void that their team have been missing.

for some time we are missing a player with heart and drive and tenacity. fletcher provided that.

for some time spurs have missed some still tha tenables their flair players to play. palacios provides taht.

song have been providing what flamini have been doing. sure he didnt start off great but so did fletcher.

im jsut saying what he is undergoing now is great but by no means the only case.

all these players including lass diarra depend on self belief to improve themselves and push themselves to be indispensible.

  45. kyith says:

there is nothing anti football about pressuring people. if that is the case then barca is playing some anti football since their philosophy have been pressing hard other than good passing play.

there was a time when arsenal played man utd and they wasn’t that quality yet so wenger resort to playing 5 across midfield and stifling man utd’s attack.

its about doing the right thing with the available resources. i hear alot of arsenal fans suggesting that they should have got lorik cana when he was available. if players like fletcher is the epitome of negative football then why play a defensive midfielder at all? just play wilshere, ramsey and fabregas.

  46. PG says:

There is a difference in defending and having a pressing game vs fouling on the fringes of the rules. Small niggly things – a shirt pull here, a nudge on ribs etc which dont get noticed by the ref. Darren Fletcher is a master of this art.. I dont believe that is what is required to win at football games. Thats the neandethral method employed by hacks like Sam Allardyce and that shitty brown faced Phil Brown. Keane didnt need to do that for you – although he was aggressive in his own right and neither does Hargreaves. They were effective still… Darren Fletcher is just thriving on the good luck that the refs havent noticed his fouling ways.

But hey, feel free to throw back some insults about medals. Like I am some bloody Liverpool fan.

  47. parthi says:

    Fletcher == United Legend

  48. keano99 says:

VSK WHY CHRISTMAS ON THE 24TH??????

  49. ArmaDino says:

    @PG
“Darren Fletcher is just thriving on the good luck that the refs havent noticed his fouling ways.”- mate, look at that picture at the beginning of this thread…. you call that good luck? a red card for a tackle that was hardly worth a yellow… that match against CSKA he was booked for a dive, sepite it being a clear fowl… the only time he was lucky, was in the Arsenal game against Arshavin…. so get your facts straight…

  50. John Ferry says:

Fletcherinho and Rooney are the heart and soul of this magnificent club.

  51. Redbeard says:

    PG

    You really are deluded –

“feel free to throw back some insults about medals. Like I am some bloody Liverpool fan.”

Even the Scousers have won more trophies recently than you’re lot!

  52. Kings says:

Not bigheaded at all Fletch, it’s fact, you’ve bossed all of those twats. Keep it up lad. Footballer of the Year this season for me and future United captain.

  53. bchilds says:

Just keep your head down Fletch. I totally agree with his comments and he’s fast becoming one of my favourite players and he’s certainly one of/the first names on the team sheet but don’t get too carried away.

Keep doing what you’re doing Fletch!

  54. redromulus says:

    Absolute class! Football genius.

  55. United4eva says:

Some people are saying Fletch aint Keano yet but they forget Fletch is only 25. Roy Keane at 25 wasn’t yet the finished article and Fletch is far from being everything he can be. That goal he scored at the weekend was like something out of Bryan Robson’s locker and I reckon someday soon Fletch can be our Captain Marvel MK2.

    ps) Happy Birthday GHTT

  56. NBI Red Onion says:

Wow am impressed the guy seems so quite its interesting to hear what goes through his head – it shows he is agressive and competitve and he is not intimidated. Like that. IN YER FESS!

Who else thinks Torres is a spray can short of a jedward?

  57. ashhotjet90 says:

Whats the big deal made out of Fletch getting beaten by Ramsey ! Great goal , but the ball ricocheted from fletch back to him , it would have been a great interception by Fletch otherwise . He was unlucky .

  58. Nectarine says:

    Hahaha, well said, Fletch!
