Manchester United been linked to a whole host of players this summer, with Real Madrid’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar the latest to be added to the list. However, the press just appear to pick names at random, linking players who would fit, with no real basis to the story.
Karim Benzema is a favourite transfer target for a lot of reds and the rumours surrounding him certainly seem to suggest we’re in the market, with his agent telling Sir Alex Ferguson last week that the player will be staying in France next year.
According to his agent, it’s not a question of if Benzema will leave, rather when, with him apparently costing 40million euros this summer.
“Ferguson wants Karim this summer, however his transfer fee will not be over 40million euros,” said Karim Djaziri. “He is only 21, the only time a transfer of a 21-year-old went so high it was the Robinho transfer to Real Madrid. Karim can’t be more valued than David Villa, who will cost more than 40million euros. The question is not if he will sign for one of the big clubs, but when.”

Off topic but has anyone read of United’s intrest in Kenyan midfielder McDonald Mariga from Parma? Been following his career and he’s a very promising player. Tall, skillful and strong. He’s like a fusion of Mikel and Essien and can retain the ball excellently. And he’d come on the cheap. I think its worth a try.

For people asking the question ‘do we want him if his dream team is real’ etc? How many world class players do we know of out there who come out openly and say their dream team is Man United? Why pay 40 million for a player who has only delivered in the French League – never internationally or in Europe (except sparking occasionally against moderate opposition). I think benzema can fit into our system allowing berba and rooney to play in the same team. he can play wide or up front so he’d fit in to any system 4-4-2,4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3. Welbeck and macheda can be blended into the side.

Benzema is very young but very experienced; strong, fast, skilful, two-footed and has a hard noggin. He’s been bored playing in France where the level of competition isn’t great. Just the ticket to play ahead of Rooney/Berbatov.
As far as I’m concerned, the price is close to irrelevant because UTD have a gigantic “war chest”, courtesy of CR and Carlitos’ departures, and it is absolutely imperative to bring in another QUALITY striker.

I think Karim would be a great buy, a both footed powerhouse of a striker. With Rooney and/or Berba dropping off our strikeforce next season will be as potent as ever.
