Forget Arsenal, City and Everton… Time For Fergie To Show Arshavin Interest

Andrei Arshaven England RussiaAndrei Arshavin has the potential to be the next big thing, with clubs all over Europe taking an interest in him this season. He has just helped Zenit St. Petersburg claim the league title and UEFA Cup, showing bags of ability and big potential to make it in a stronger European league.

Yesterday, Arshavin’s coach has announced that the player is looking to leave the club in the summer.

“Andrei has told us that he wishes to change clubs,” he said. “At present, in the way of offers, it is quiet. The situation may well change after the game against Holland for the national side.”

Newcastle, Everton, Manchester City and Arsenal have all been linked to the player, with scouts tracking his progress. His versatility, enabling him to play as a second striker, winger and attacking central midfielder, means that it is about time Fergie showed an interest too!

Having just turned 27-years-old, Arshavin is hitting his peak, making it perfect timing to move abroad. If Ronaldo is to leave, and Giggsy and Scholes getting on a bit, a signing like this could be ideal for United. He’s also rather handy when it comes to freekicks, which would be useful.

All season he has been tipped to leave for around £8-10 million, however his stock has improved somewhat in recent months. If United were to get involved in the bidding, we’d probably be looking at spending £15 million for the talented Russian.

Not convinced? See him in action tonight against Van der Sar’s Holland and watch this…

27?? aint tht a bit too old to buy kinda uncertain commodity?

  2. spike says:

Maybe Gary Neville should be flown to the Euros to sweeten the deal.

  3. scotty says:

he definitely is class, but not sure where we would play him, attacking midfield would be best, also its a shame he is not a few years younger……saying all that, we should definitley look at him…..i like him a lot.

  4. gooner says:

Maybe old red nose should sweeten him up on the phone that’ll clinch it

  5. frankjr90 says:

The boy can play. Let’s see what he does in the big time against Netherlands.

  6. Dinu says:

All you people are obsessed with FIFA 2008 and Footbal Manager.. get real, how old was Stam when we bought him? Ringing any bells… I think Arshavin will turn out to be a class act especially with the eminent departure of Ronaldo the aging of Giggs and the enexpireince that Nani has.. we need an experienced, yet a jet propeled winger who can be a match decider, like Giggs (when he was 5 years younger..)

  7. OMelhorDoMundo says:

What a class act. I’m watching the Netherlands-Russia game at the moment and he would definitely do well whever he goes. How is 27 too old? He’s at his peak and deserves a club like United

  8. Gary says:

I first saw him play for Zenit this season when they beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 in Germany. He ripped them too peices that night. The I have been watching him ever since and hes been consistent. Russia have sparked into life in there last 2 games, just so happens Arshavin missed there opening two games. I tell ya what, the guy look a class act. I think he would fit in perfectly at United aswel. Fergie sign him up!

  9. Tom F says:

We have a great young squad and a player a little older isn’t going to have a negative effect on us at all.

We could well do wiith a player like Arshavin, not too sure where we’d play him either as he seems similar to Tev and Rooney but saying that, our interchangable attacking style would suit him well.

A player of his ability, who has helped a quick but not amazing Russia team get into the Semi’s of Euro 2008 would do so well in a better team with the better players United have on offer.

  10. jhunt says:

he looks good. i watch the holland-russia game and he looked a class of his own. granted this was against a defense that doesnt play well collectively and is composed of shaky individuals. but, his presence on the field, his ability to run by players and his on the ball intelligence looks class. you have to love the chip for russia’s third goal…

  11. denton davey says:

NO question, Arshavin is an excellent player – kinda like the Paul Scholes of 2000.

I am, however, even more impressed with the tall, thin, blond kid who plays striker – Roman Pav…..

Of course, for these two guys, the “market price” is just exploding and a number of other players who have excelled at EuroFootieCups have proved to be flops – Karel Poborsky, anybody ?

  12. RAng2 says:

arshavin had made his word…that he would only play for chelsea and the gunners if he wants to play for the EPL…..there’s no way he will be at old trafford next season..

  13. SpitFire says:

Thank god someone else tho bout this as well. i tho i was the only one wanting him to play for us! Anyone saw the quaterfinal match against the dutch will know, they won it bcoz of this guy! i say, sell Ronaldo, get Arsahivin and Hunterlaar in!

  14. Roontastic says:

Fergie will never buy another player from Russia or Ukraine after the problems he had with russian gangsters when Kanchelskis was at the club…. Shame as Arshavin is quality.

  15. corea says:

    denton davey

    Roman Pavliuchenko ? )))
I’ve heard that Real are interested in him )))

on Arshavin. i know this player for a long time. i live in the russian language country and the only russian player i would of liked to play for us was him. ))
But maybe Real Madrid are also keen ? :-D Poor Cristiano. ))

  16. dave says:

I like ashavin, very good little player. it says a lot as well that before he holland game some dutch coach (can remmber who) was saying he thought ashavin would walk into the dutch team.

on a slight side note, i also really like Anyukov, the russia/Zenit rightback, looks a solid defender and very good bobing down the wing. signing the two of them together would help them to settle etc too….

  17. Infectioner says:

Vidic should go to sweeten the deal (please no Gary Neville!) since he played in Russia before. And also he will fucking murder Arshavin if he refuses to sign :D

  18. Chris says:

Big game player, match winner, entertainer, fantastic talent. Definitely we should sign him if you-know-who leaves (money won’t be a problem then). Who cares about his age? Remember we signed Sheringham when Cantona left – that worked out OK didn’t it?

  19. ManU says:

Get rid of the greedy Ronaldo and buy Aeshavin who is better player after watching him.At 27 he could be available to play for at least 3 seasons with MU.
The Russian goalkeeper is another good choice. Lham and Steiger will sure strengthen the team for the EPL 08/09 and the CL 09.

  20. realred says:

we reallty need this guys. would be able to interchange with nani.

    WOULd be immence

  21. eric the king the king the king says:

well he smashd the orange army last nite good and propa, dont no wer he wud fit in tho, we hav centre mids and wayne n tevez play bhind the number 9 strika, so wer wud he play?

  22. denton davey says:

IF Arshavin were to sign with UTD, I would expect that Paul Scholes’ playing time would be drastically cut.

IF Palv..chenko were to sign with UTD then I would expect that Ryan Giggs’ playing time woudl be drastically cut.

The key is that a big tieam like UTD play so many games that a squad of twenty outfield players is crucial to season-long success. It’s not a matter of rotating guys so much as having quality-in-reserve.

A few years ago, when ACMilan were in their pomp, they kept fantastic relics like Billy Costacurta and Cafu (and several other old-timers) around the team because they knew that these guys would be useful in a pinch. They weren’t wrong either: Milan was the dominant team for the first half of this decade and those old-timers were vital parts of the squad. Instead of Cafu and Costacurta just substitute Giggs, Neville, and Scholes.

  23. Patrik says:

The guy is 27 years old, and no-one has heard of him before the last few months, so I feel he might be a “one-hit wonder”. And he will have to adapt and learn a new language which might take some time especially since we don’t have anyone in the club who speaks russian. Therefore I think we’re better of with Benzema for example.

  24. Drew Vader says:

he was f’ing fantastic against holland yesterday, but i honestly dont think united needs him. Look, we already have wayne and carlitos who play in that same, second striker, position. We need a target man forward, someone to lead the line, not a 3rd choice in a position we already have filled.

His blonde teammante Pavilichenko or whatever his name is seems like more of the type of player that is needed. Not just a luxory signing to appease the quick fix fans.

  25. Phoenixred says:

Sorry people I read today that he has also caught the Lal liga fever, so i don’t think he’ll be coming to England.

  26. suhayl says:

yep another one to catch la liga syndrome..flamin barca and real
