Following Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat against Southampton, reports in the media have claimed that Jose Mourinho has written a six-page letter to the club explaining how desperate he is to become the manager.
Up until now, United have steered clear of Mourinho thanks to the drama that follows him, with the former Chelsea manager apparently crying when he learnt David Moyes had been chosen as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor.
In this letter, Mourinho has tried to alleviate the concerns United have about him, insisting that he is prepared to adapt and change to fit in with the club’s ideals.
Van Gaal has won just six of his last 21 games and in the league this season the team have had just 35 shots on target, an average of 1.5 shots on target per game.
