Some of the reports in this mornings’ papers suggest that Ben Foster is on his way to Newcastle on loan next season if they stay in the Premiership.
With Van der Sar not getting any younger and Ben Foster more and more desperate for first team action, surely next season Foster should be sticking with us. Probably just paper talk, but what do you see Foster’s role for next season?

Man Utd News 24/7

First again!Simply put:No freaking way.
In my opinion Foster should share the first team role with VDS.
I think he’s good enough, the only problem is that he’s been given so few games and for example has never played 2 games in a row for us.
We can not expect him to be good on a consistent basis if he never gets the chance. Same can be said about Nani…
No chance, would like to see him get the number one shirt next season.
I would give him the no1 spot from now… he has the confidence, and he is hungry to prove himself…
i think he should be first choice with edwin as back up because if things aren’t goin well you can take him out of the firing line if he strugles dont think he will tho looks a very assured keeper. i know he was at fault for the goal yesterday but keepers need to play week in week out thats when we’ll find out how good he can be
Ellioman, you’ve taken the words out of my mouth. Nani is as frustrating as Ronaldo was initially. But we stuck with him and gave him a run of games and he came good. Nani on the other hand is given one game every other six or seven games and he is expected to perform. It just doesn’t work like that. Besides, Park is playing like Sh!t and its time Nani was given a run.
Ben is not going anywhere as Kuczchak is likely to be sold this summer
No chance. I want him to stay. I think he’ll get a few more games in the Premiership next season. Loan Kuszack out instead.
NO way in hell unless of course you read Fergie has one up his arse….but that’s all paper talk
I’ve had doubts about Foster for a long time. He’s the typical error prone goalkeeper, just like Robinson, Carson, James et al.
He might prove me wrong, and I’d be glad if he did – but I for one would like to bring in a new experience goalie.
Eg. the Buffon rumours.
There should be an option “He isn’t good enough” in the poll. I seriously believe we should find a new keeper when VDS hangs up his gloves. Both PIG and Foster are not good enough to be United’s no: 1 IMO.
Sell Foster- buy Reina or Cech!
I have my reservations – Foster hasn’t proven anything yet and throwing him in can cost you. Granted he can’t prove anything without the opportunity to do so, but lets not be blinded by “he’ll be England’s next number 1″ from Fergie. If he isn’t Englands number 1 he cant be Utd’s. We’ve heard that about many keepers before too; Carson, Kirkland, Joe Hart – and look what happened to them. Don’t get me wrong all of these are GOOD goalkeepers, but we need a GREAT goalkeeper.
Don’t underestimate the importance of a dominating and experienced keeper for a top side, it’s the back bone for the whole defense. It’s not like bringing in an inexperienced outfield player, as for a keeper one error can cost you a game, or worse, a cup/title (Carson for England against Croatia??). Foster’s error nearly cost us dear yesterday, and highlighted that whilst he is an excellent shot stopper, he isn’t particularly dominant in the box.
Remember how we twatted about with loads of keeper’s when Schmeichal left and it took years to recover. There’s no doubt in my mind that its one of the most important positions and crucial we get it right when VDS retires.
Problem is, buying a top keeper nowadays, such as with the Buffon rumours, you are looking at £30m plus…! Ridiculous sums of money.
you need to have the same keeper and defence as much as possible
sharing with vds will unsettle the defence
i dont think he is ready to take over as number 1 maybe he wil never be ready
i also think vds is finished, we need to look elsewhere
Kuszack is gone. Sir Alex blames the goal concided to Blackburn that broke our clean sheet record as the start of our decline, and who was it in goal that day? Ever since that day, Foster became the first choice backup to Van der Sar. Doesn’t it look familiar to how many players were shown the door?
Yeah because they did such a good job when we loaned them Rossi or Spurs are doing a good job with Campbell.
@Timothy: stupid and unrealistic much?
We should keep him and work him into being our starting keeper. If he stays we can have a top class keeper for ten years which will save 20-30 mil pounds that can be better spent in other areas. Saying that, I’m sure its frustrating for him though seeing as how EvS signed on for another year.
play him this weekend in the fa cup and see how he does on a big stage. we all know what vds is capable of in big games.
