Giggs: Delighted I get to stay at United

Ryan Giggs was pictured in Holland yesterday, ahead of the friendly between the Dutch national team and Ecuador, which suggested that our most decorated player had been offered a role by our new manager, Louis van Gaal.

Today, whilst announcing the appointment of Van Gaal, the club have also confirmed that Giggs will be our assistant manager.

“I am thrilled to have the chance to serve as assistant manager,” he said. “Louis van Gaal is a world-class coach and I know I will learn a lot about coaching from being able to observe and contribute at such close quarters. Manchester United has been a huge part of my life and I’m delighted to be able to continue that relationship in such a key role.”

Ed Woodward has also revealed how pleased he is that Giggsy will be staying at the club.

“I’m delighted that Louis has chosen Ryan as his assistant,” he said. “Ryan’s association with the club spans over two decades and his knowledge and stature will be of great use to Louis. In addition, this is a fantastic opportunity for Ryan to learn his trade alongside a world-class manager whose attacking instincts and belief in youth are tailor-made for Manchester United.”

    Good on ya Giggsy.
Finally a worldclass manager in LVG to bring smiles to our faces once again. GGMU.

Meulensteen ? Strange that no mention of the 1st team coach.

Nice quote from van Gaal: “This club has big ambitions; I have great ambitions. I am sure that we will write History together”

Van Gaal a logical appointment. And the first made by the Glazers, for the Glazers. Definite era-change. Transfer choices the next big issue

Happy for giggs. Can any one tell then what about the assistant that LVG is bringing with him fro Dutch. What role for him?

  4. Tommy says:

1 of his assistans is a goalkeeping coach, the other is an opposition coach like he studies the opposition and coaches the team depending on how the opponents will play.

Delighted hes keeping Giggsy on. Its obvious the plan is for LVG to have 3 years of success and the baton will be passed down to Giggs. Great experience to learn from one of the most experienced managers in football.
