Giggs: I’m enjoying being a United coach

Ryan Giggs has revealed how much he is enjoying his coaching role at United, although concedes that at this stage his position in the dressing room has yet to change.

“I am enjoying my coaching role at Manchester United – it has been great,” he said. “It hasn’t yet got to the point when I go into the dressing room and everything falls quiet. But education is the next step in my career and I’m enjoying it. I am enjoying working with the new manager. Personally, I would prefer better results but we are only seven or eight games into the season.”

I believe it is of tremendous value maintaining the club standards and traditions to have former players involved in coaching but I prefer that former players just starting out coaching first get their experience working with the youth teams like Nicky Butt. For one, I think they have more influence with the younger players that have not yet “made it”. Secondly, our first team needs top world class coaches like Rene Meulensteen. If you are a former united player and a world class coach then great you go to the top of the list, but you have to be world class before. For that reason I would prefer to see Phil Neville moved to the youth teams and replace him with someone that has some experience in training at the top level.

I don’t mind the player/coach think with Giggs but I think he should go down the youth ranks next year as well.
