Giggs kicked the penalty with the precision of a surgeon. I mean he placed it where a goal keeper could never touch it. Tevez’s penalty was also amazing. It takes amazing skills and courage to kick those areas of the goal post. Ronaldo was a bit lucky-he placed it easily within the goal keepers reach.

drew vader- anderson was class today, the price of £17mill was steep but the comparison to another young midfielder today in Gibson was staggering and the money showed…he was looking for the ball and going to pick it up off defenders and making things happen instead of hiding in poor positions and raising his hand like Gibson was for the whole match..the occasion may have been a bit much for him but he took a little step back today for me

Im afraid Eric i cant agree with you on the Nani comment. I think he had one of his better games today and was rather decent except for the odd hiccup. He gets really involved in plays and i think his decision making will come on with time. Ronny got a lot of time but Nani doesnt see that much action so we need to be patient with the boy

Everytime I see him play I keep willing him to have a good game as I hate to see any United player fail and he started off ok. However he never really got into the game, his defending is awful and never really tracks back, I have to say my patience is wearing thin now.”

Question: does Nani have a left foot ? He NEVER uses it and so he can be fairly easily “marshalled” by a competent defender.

Similarly, two other big talents with one foot are Arjen Robben and Adriano of Inter. I simply don’t understand how any defender can let an opponent get the ball on his “preferred side” unless that opponent shows (even occasionally) that he is willing to go to his “weaker side”.

One of the many reasons why Cristiano Ronaldo is without question (in my mind, at least) the best footballer on the planet is that he is not only comfortable with both feet but he is also excellent in the air. The so-called contenders for that “best footballer” moniker – Kaka and Messi – are either rarely seen heading the ball or one-footed, respectively.

Unless Nani can develop his left peg – and Anderson – can do the same with his right one then we have two potential superstars who will never reach their potentials.

I was dissappointed with the United fans today .. Spurs out shouted us for most the game .. they had flags and constantly sang songs .. was it because we are spoilt and this was only the carling cup!!

I know it was his first first match back from a lengthy spell out, but I lost count how many times I screamed at Anderson to fucking sprint!! He has bags of pace, but he only seems to turn it on when he is dribbling! On defense he can’t be bothered. I remember right when he came on, he should be full of energy and enthusiasm, but Zakora went on a break from deep charging down the middle of the pitch, and Anderson jogged after him half assed for about twenty yards before just quitting all together….even as Zokora continued his run charging down our throats. Not good enough effort at breaking up play and hurrying players.
