The game went exactly the way i thought. liverpool were up for it and the first half was evenly matched. Somehow knew torres would score and he did.however playing twice this week had to take its toll on them and it finally did in the 2nd half especially when it is such a high tempo game for 90 mins.

Vidic and Fletch for MOM, Valencia was good, Nani was unspectacular but solid, like how direct he has become over these last couple of months. What do i not like about carrick?.. To be honest i have been spoilt with Scholes…. I compare him to carrick more than carrick to keane because carricks game is all about his passing… Scholes can control again, Cant remember carrick doing the same. Passing…. Scholes is head and shoulders above…. In short he just doesnt give me confidence!

Beneathus seems to think that that’s where he is best at. Linking up with Torres. And in fairness, they did click well in plenty of games last year. The problem this season, is that they don’t have a midfielder who can influence proceedings like Alonso did. Gerrard is 30 now, so can he play as a CM again and do a Fletcher? Probably not.

Enjoyed the win, but boy did we do it the hard way. At the end we nearly paid for being sloppy and loosing the ball too cheaply. At times it was so frustrating seeing those unnecessary long balls that ended up with us loosing possession, when the lads had simpler options.
Nevertheless, we deserved the victory and fucking scourers were not complaining when in the Liverpool match all the major decisions went their way.
On another day the Ladyboy, Mascherano and even Carragher could have been sent off.

In today’s match – Fletcherinho was just immense; everyone else did just fine thank you very much but Darren was fan-fucking-tastic. As much as the return of the central defensive triangle and the scoring of WayneRooney have been incredibly encouraging for the run-in, TheScottishPlayer seems to have become the heart-beat of this year’s team. His enforced absence in Roma was massive, too.
Put Fletcherinho and Hargreaves in the box-to-box roles and Paul Scholes will be able to play for at least three or four more years – and Michael Carrick will be reduced to a make-shift role.
The other player who deserves a special shout is RedNev – he was “at ‘em” all through the game and his gut-bursting run outside Fletcherinho was terrific as it forced Insua to back-off thereby giving Fletcherinho the time/space to send in an arrow that was driven home by ThreeLungPark. A really fantastic piece of team play.

As I said earlier, last season we won the 7 corresponding games, so we could do it again. A lot of it will depend on how much injuries and the C.L. will take out of us.
Blackburn appear to be holding on and hopefully Pompey will fight for their pride on Wedensday. If Chelsea can drop points now, it will be a bonus because they are done with the C.L.
I don’t expect Arse to drop many points. Although going to the Lane 4 days after going to Barca will be challenging.

What he does do (usually) is keep United ticking over with one and two touch passes. Just watch how many touches he has. Hardly any, just quick first time balls. Carrick is at his worse when he has little time on the ball, Scholes can cope with it and always seems 1 step ahead of the game. Carrick gets flustered.

He’s 28 or 29; he’s not going to change and, all-of-a-sudden, become a more aggressive player. He is what he is. Personally, I’m not a big fan but he is still a guy in whom SAF seems to have confidence. For the remainder of this season, Carrick’s playing time is more secure than Berbatov’s; neither is a part of the long-term reconstruction of the team. I’m not sure that he’s going to be such a fixture next year. I can see Fletcherinho and Anderson/Hargreaves (fingers crossed) consistently being picked ahead of him; perhaps this kid Cleverley might be the one to take on the playmaking role over the medium term. For the short term, however, Carrick is going to play a lot – because, really, with Anderson/Hargreaves out of the picture there’s not really a lot of competition for his playing time.

King Eric – I know that we disagree about both Carrick and Berbatov. I really don’t pay much heed to SAF’s public statements because his job requires him to talk out of both sides of his mouth.
So, really, in a 4-5-1 set-up for the important games Fletcherinho is a given and the other two roles are going to be divided between two from Giggs, Scholes, ThreeLungPark, and MIchael Carrick.
Like I wrote yesterday, Carrick’s playing time isn’t likely to be in jeopardy for the remainder of this season since Anderson and Hargreaves are absentees.
The real test of SAF’s “truthfulness” will come when Fergy is in a position to decide selecting Carrick when he has the option to choose Anderson and/or Hargreaves. I’m not saying that Carrick won’t play but he will probably find his playing time more restricted as it gets shared out with other players who are going to be given auditions as Fletcherinho’s play-mate in the engine room.
At the base of my thinking is that the system/formation is evolving away from a 4-4-2 towards a 4-5-1 as the usual set-up. That means two wingers and two “defensive” midfielders as well as A.N.other player who will play the kind of role that ThreeLungPark had yesterday. Such a new system is versatile and places a premium on speed in attack – and that’s what SAF has always favoured in recruiting players and setting up his formation.
Disappointed with the lack of anti-glazer chants. Felt the team might have reacted well to more of that, but you can’t have everything I suppose.
