Been a season ticket holder for over 15 years. I’ve put up with the Glazers takeover, the stupid cup scheme, most of which I am unable to attend, the continued hike in prices year after year, higher taxes, increased fuel costs to get to games – and now this.

I find it hard to believe that Ferguson would go from being prepared to pay £30m for a top young striker to replacing that target with a 29 year old injury plagued one. I wouldn’t have a problem with it happening but only if it’s on a pay as you play deal, it’s a win win situation really.
For people who say we are probably not going to sign anyone else, I’m not sure why you’d think that. We need another winger, Nani is simply not good enough and Tosic will probably be played into the team over the season. Central midfield is a problem as well, Fletcher did well last season and got a lot of praise, but still, he isn’t the world class player we need there. I still expect another couple of signings at least.

I think a year playing first team football in a fairly competitive league will do him good. Then when we find out how Hargo goes and when Giggs and Scholes hand up their boots he will be better positioned to be a contender to play atleast semi regularly

I have two words: Sheringham and Larsson.
Owen can emulate both at Utd. He will be a very good impact player from the bench (more so than Tevez who couldn’t score in a brothel) and more importantly he will be happy to be a part of a squad rotation system. He will also be a valuable mentor to the likes of Wellbeck. As a squad player who has done it at the highest level (please check his record at liverpool and madrid) and won the European Footballer of the year award, he is definitely worth a punt on a pay as you play deal.
Most of the time Utd are going to play 1 up front, two at the most. So this signing makes alot more sense then spending a fortune on a center forward who we can’t guarantee game time too. We already have two 30M strikers in Rooney and Berbatov. We didn’t need another.
Now we can turn our attention to the midfield.

i think its alright for us. we need someone who is willing to sit on the bench when needed, with experience to lead the line say for 20 minutes a game, and who wont be too expensive. If he is taking 50k per week, it wouldnt be that bad considering that Macheda will take 40k starting next season.

Valencia last year absolutly rang rings round our defence and many others in the prem. Ronaldo had all the skill and no end product at the start what did we do with him…………… i don’t know why everyone keeps going on about benzema he was the top scorer in a mediocre league and apparently hes big headed so i guess he will fit in well at madrid. Tevez was a hard worker yes but i have to say that no one ever believed that he could always change any match at any time with a bit of magic. Ronaldo going was always on the cards ever since the ‘winker’ saga. No one will ever really fill his boots. but this a chance for others to stand up and play a different way.

Getting Michael Owen makes sound business sense. According to reports, he will be on 50k per week (half of what he was getting at Newcastle) plus bonuses depending on appearances, goals and trophies.
We got Larsson when he was much older and had recovered from a serious injury and he did the job for the 3 odd months he was here. Laurent Blanc was also old when he came here and he was hugely influential.
Owen is 29, has the knack of scoring goals and can run (at least used to) at defenders. We have Berba and/or Rooney creating chances and Owen finishing them off. I’m pretty sure United can do a better job of keeping Owen fit than Newcastle.
So, all in all, this makes sound business sense and Fergie might have just done it again. The sad part is seeing an ex-Liverpool and Real Madrid man pull on the United shirt, but we will have to make our peace with that. Once the goals start pouring, everything will be forgotten.

Have to say I won’t be unhappy if Owen arrives – he has to worth a punt, certainly as a squad/impact player. Of course his fitness is a concern, but I reckon a lot of the propblems were in his head. This transfer doesn’t fill me with a great deal of excitement. What kind of reaction is Owen going to get when he runs out at Old Trafford for the first time? I imagine everyone will be looking at eachother as what to do?
Looking at it tho, it’s a no lose situation if we can get him on a pay as you play contract and on a free transfer.
I have to say I’m very concerned about this season. We are seriously lacking goals and creativity from midfield, and Rooney is our only top class front man and he isnt a natural goal scorer anyway.

You cant argue at this signing, Owen hasnt cost a fee, will be on a wage deal that means he has to score goals, he has experience at this level and lives within a short car journey of Old Trafford.
Owen has everything to prove and wants to get back in the England team.
His experience will help the likes of Macheda and Wellbeck and even Rooney.
His presence of the Far East tour will pay for his wages.
He will get more goals coming from the bench than Tevez.
I dont expect Owen to be the only signing before the end of August.

I am missing Tevez even more now. What the hell is all this talk that Utd are interested in Owen. I hated the player when he was at Liverpool as i know most reds did. I will never forget a challenge that Michael Owen once made on Ronny Johnsen in the 97/98 season it was dreadful and i will always hate him for that. Berbatov & Rooney first choice forwards. Kiko & Wellbeck young kids almost ready to step up.. who do we need? A good back up striker who wont bitch & moan about getting enough game time.
If Benzema had come then again we would have 3 first choice strikers with place on the field for only 2. We needed an experienced back up, and though I would have preferred RVN I think Owen can do the job for us.. plus he isnt costing us a transfer fee so we arent losing anything.

I have mixed feelings about it but It could end up being a stroke of genius, Owen wants to go to the World Cup and the only way he’ll do that is by scoring goals, plus if it doesn’t work out it hasn’t cost £30 million.
I think the reason we’re struggling to attract the ‘big names’ from europe is the same reason Chelski, Pool, Arsenal and Citeh haven’t made any big foreign signings yet, 50% tax and weak sterling vs the euro, players earn more on the continent and any that do come will be on crazy money. It’s also partly why the transfer fees have gone crazy. Most of the signings in this country so far have been domestic and it wouldn’t surprise me if it stayed that way.
Why oh Why Aguero? He is close to fifty million and another Argie. Not worth the risk.

I am shocked by this signing. I’ll be honest, when it comes to signing players SAF generally get’s it right. HOWEVER, he is not always right eg David Bellion, Laurent Blannc, Djemba Djemba, Bosnick, Masimo Tiabi (the gk).

One bad performance against Barca -and the club goes into panic mode. As things stand -hope I’m wrong -but we are looking at 3rd place next season. Why did we not go for Silva as a wise player -he’s not Ronaldo but he’s Galactico class -whereas it seems Valencia can just “do a job” as a wide player.
