Henriquez: Thrilled To Join Biggest Club In The World

Manchester United have today confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Angelo Henriquez. The Chile under-23 striker joins United from Universidad de Chile for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £4m.

“I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. Manchester United is a great team and has a great manager,” he said. “To be able to be part of that is a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started. I hope I can be part of many successful years with United.”

Henriquez’s squad number for the 2012/13 campaign will be 21, taking Rafael’s old number.

“Angelo has made a tremendous impact on the game in his short career so far,” said Ferguson. “His pace is a great asset and he reads the game really well for someone of such a young age. We have a proud record of developing young talent and Angelo fits the profile of a United player – skilful, attacking and someone who plays the game with real flair.”

    May all your wishes come true!
    I have this gut feeling that Henriquez will inherit the no.7 from Valencia.

    I thought the transfer window has been closed?

  8. kanchelskis says:

    @Red Robin

    Everything was done on time but the FA had a paperwork backlog so couldn’t ratify til a few days later. I geuss Utd indicated to them that there’s no rush as he’s not an immediate part of first-team plans.

  9. debra says:

    @Red Robin..it had, but for us he had already done a medical. ….

  10. Legend(Giggs) says:

    Good news, Sir Alex is really addicted to strikers but i am glad about Angelo’s arrival.
    Why is it that we struggle to scout good talented midfielders?

    Current strikers: Rooney, RVP, Chicharito, Welbeck.

    Then reserves:Macheda, Josh King, Cofie, Will Kean, Angelo Henriquez, Bebe.

    Also we have a very talented young striker in the form of Jack Barmby who is a top top talent.

    My problem with this is that Rooney is 26, Chicha 24, Welbeck 22 these three strikers can play for the next 5 to 6 seasons and remember RVP can give us 3 good seasons, then what about the talented strikers Will Keane, Henriquez who will be 23 yrs old then.

    This congestion of strikers is not good coz sum will end up playing as wingers like we are doing with Welbeck, then you dont benefit in full from the talent of these lads.

    Here is my solution and please dont kill me chaps coz i am just suggesting:
    1. Sell Rooney to Madrid for £50 million.
    2.Loan Macheda, Bebe to a premier league club and if they blosson then we either keep them or sell them than letting them leave free and star for other teams in the future.
    3.Loan Will Keane to a championship club but keep Henriquez in the first team.

    Will Keane, Jack Barmby and Henriquez are the future Ballon”dor candidates,trust me.

    Have to say that with the signing of this new TV rights deal, the latest round of “expert” Share Price evaluations that are going around, and the huge sponsorship deals that have been signed, Uniteds financial future isn’t looking as dark as it did a year or so ago, when ambitiongate was raging. Will like to see a write up from Andersred at some point on how our future revenue streams look in light of the latest deals. We have a good young core in place, and hope they manage to kick on from here. The disappointment following Pogbas and Fryers departure is lessened by the fact that we no longer appear inhibited in spending the necessary money to buy experience when needed. Henriquez looks like the most promising of a nucleus of U21 talent around. The only grey area now is just how much bite FFP will have. Wish Henriquez the best.

  12. Ash says:

    He could be our next ronaldo. He is just 18 and has the ability to score some great goals. I won’t mind if we send him on loan to some european club where he learns the art of european football. Definitely one for the future.

  13. Red Robin says:

    Kanchelskis & Debra : Thanks!

    Hope this Henriquez lad will do his best at the club. Finally we got chilean striker, after we tried to get Salas. Anyway, I got a feeling that he will be better than Salas.

    Bienvenido a United! Welcome to Manchester!

    What a saga. Glad they finally got it done and well pleased that he was able to get a work permit based on his national team work.

    To bad this couldn’t happen before the CL list, but assume he can be added in January if it is warranted.

    If he is added to the U21 squad, I believe he is eligible for the cups and even the prem because of the junior trainee rules. Can anyone confirm this?

  19. iced earth says:

    Legend(Giggs)
    agree with you
    but i think the like of bebe macheda will leave the club
    rooney is one of my favourite player but i think sir alex will let him go
    with Welbeck. Chicharito, King Cofie Henriquez Will Keane,and some reports in the summer suggest that Robert Lewandowski will join us nxt term,it will very hard for him
    maybe he will switch to the middele

  20. Red Robin says:

    Legend(Giggs)

    In an ideal world, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck will serve us a good 5-6 years. But, nowadays you would expect some players for some other reasons leave United before 5-6 years (I.e: injury, lured by other clubs, etc.). C Ronaldo had just 1 year into his new 5 years contract when he left us for Madrid. You never know mate.

  21. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Kanchelskis. This is a bad version of a clip that was circulating a month ago.

    Like the way he stays on his feet. Compared to Messi by some which you will see is a stretch.
    But at 5’11″ (1.80) he looks build like a junior Ronaldo!

    Wish him all the best…. ofcourse :cool:

  22. Proverb says:

    A lot of people talk very highly of him even sir alex sounds quite confident about this kids
    myself haven’t seen much apart from his UTUBE cameos

    But I think he’s a great striker, strong, clinical

    These south american players are very good. I think porto does the best job of finding some great south american talents. If they become hit then they tend to become world class. I hope henriques does become a world class athlete like sanchez,Falcao etc

  34. FletchTHEMAN says:

    kanchelskis,
    It is Sam Johnstone just elevated from winning everything with the reserves. Getting some regular call ups with the U18s, U19s and U21s. Had a senior start or 2 last year as well.

    Good keeper, up and coming!

    You will recall we also have Ben Amos, but he is on season long loan and missed the photo.

    @Fletch

    Ah of course.

    Yeh I knew it couldn’t be Amos as he’s off with Brucey at Hull.

  39. kanchelskis says:

    @Fletch

    Some nice strikes in there, though I’m sure the last one is a mis-kick :-p

    One thing I like about these young guys from the S American leagues that that they’re used to absolutely mental atmospheres right from the word go. You think they’re going to be intimidated by a load of Stokey inbreds when they’ve been playing to mega-stadiums full of fucking insane hombres who want blood first and footbal second? Not a chance.

  41. samuel - united WE stand says:

    Another case of united utilizing its scouting network well. If the club never had a pre contract agreement with universidad then he would have cost a lot more. He’s a precocious talent with burgeoning potential. His movement look excellent and more importantly, he has an all round game to match his finishing ability. I’m delighted that we’ve bagged another top talent, he’ll undergo development at carrington and be readied for the demands of the premier league. I expect him to be involved in cup competitions this season, he’ll need time to settle but we have quite a few southamericans at the club, so they’ll help him but apparently, he speaks english well and that also helps.

  42. samuel - united WE stand says:

    I also expect him to be fast-tracked to the first team quicker, he has the undoubted talent and belief to make a quicker integration.

  43. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Nice that the club gave him the #21

    3 x #7

    He wore the #7 at his former club, Universidad de Chile

  44. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Kanchelskis, Spot on about the intensity of SA footy. They do internationals as well, but the real action is in the Copa Libertadores, which is like the SA equivalent of the Champions league. Absolute nutters about their footy.

    Hard to believe this kid is 18 by the look of him. He lost his peach fuzz a few years back by the looks.
    Hernandez will be looking like his little brother ;)

    Speaking of Chicharito, did he have an eye operation this summer. There was talk about it last year after his early season concussion. Haven’t heard anything since.

  45. samuel - united WE stand says:

    Legend – i’ve always maintained, you never have enough top talents at a football club. Competitions are getting more demanding these days and you need to stock up in quality. I wouldn’t sell anyone to make other players happy or safe about their positions.

  46. samuel - united WE stand says:

    Ginger idiotic cunt durham and his clans are questioning Rooney’s world class ability? Anything new?. Blaming Rooney for england’s debacle, relying on one man, how pathetic.

  47. samuel - united WE stand says:

    Fletch – i agree. Southamerican players tend to be battle hardened. They play in ferocious environments with intense atmosphere, they’ve already experienced tough environments to ensure they’re ready to step in to the premier league. The copa libertodores is a competition of high standards and the chilean youngster excelled in the competition, he won’t find it hard to step into the level of united in my opinion. Looking at henriquez, he does have that falcao look about his style of movement/Finishing and instincts. He has more of an all round game than the deadly colombian though. Looking forward to see him play.

  48. Busby babes says:

    City fans do they not realise that everything united are they aspire to be, with regards to them mocking phil jones, im in the beleif that if he is given time to settle into a specified role then he more than has the capacity to be better than any of their english representives

  49. Utd4life says:

    Looking forward to seeing the lad in action in the reserves and maybe the Carling Cup matches. I don’t think he will get a sniff of the first team this season what with our overload in the striker department. However, if he does offer something different to what Chico and Welbeck offer then I wouldn’t be surprised seeing him get a few PL games as well.

  50. Proverb says:

    :P more goals than messi

  52. Busby babes says:

    Welcome aboard henrique, you’ve joined the Worlds Greatest Club:-)

  53. Dela says:

    To the comments asking if we really need more strikers, I have to answer ABSOLUTELY YES! We always, ALWAYS can do with more young, talented attackers because sadly a great percentage of them will never make it to the level that we want for them. But even beyond that, we always need goalscorers. The result is what really matters at the end of the day. Take a look at the Southampton game from the weekend, RvP scored a hattrick to turn 0 points into 3 even though it wasn’t a very good outing for the team.

    United always have powerful strikers, it’s a philosophy that has served Alex Ferguson very well. Looking too at Rooney I’m reminded that, even at just 26, his days playing as the main man up front could be coming to a close (they havent yet even though RVP is here now). After that, Rooney may have to take up the position of an attacking midfielder. Remember, Scholesy used to play up front too at one point.

    So yes, soak up all that attacking talent that you see out there :-)

  57. AlphaRS says:

    @Bitter Blue
    I can name call too.
    But it’s pretty pathetic to be fair.

  58. DreadedRed says:

    @AlFarcical

    I’m not sure I understood that. I guess you’re suggesting that name-calling is pathetic, and that we should avoid it. It does fall in the unnecessary, unsavory category. A category that also covers the unnecessary taunting of United fans that loved our player Berbatov.

    All a bit childish and bitter, I’m sure you’ll agree.

    - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -

    @ AlphaRS

    I was pleased to see that revised translations of Berbatov’s ‘divisive’ interview are generally accepted as accurately showing he was not attacking the Manager. I’m relieved of course, as I support all United, until they perhaps turn against us. My feelings changed dramatically when Ince, Heinze, Tevez, Hargreaves fucked us. The moment I heard about the boot hitting Beckham, I thought he was soon gone from United, don’t cross our Manager you bastard! That I lost a (hero/legend/idol/take your pick) was by-the-by, United is where our allegiance lies. I’m much happier that it seems we overreacted to the Berbatov quotes. He was a gentleman at United, he can and probably will continue to be a suave and considered gentleman.

  59. gazzer says:

    Dela I agree with you completely. Rooney has everything you need to be a top midfielder. In fact if he were playing today in midfield for another club, we would see him as the answer to all our prayers. The only reason we couldn’t drop him back until now is that none of the other attackers have been able to hold the front line on their own. Wellbeck, Berbatov, Chicharito are lost up there unless Rooney is arond or they got a lot of support from midfield.
    Now we have RVP we can afford to give him a more varied role. I for one am excited at the thought

  60. Bigblackxxx says:

    I respect SAF’s ability to ensure Man U always have a good nucleus of youths for the future! This ensures smooth transitions! Even if the crop of youths at MF still haven’t sharpened up to Scholes’ levels, the futre is still promising! The Legacy lives on!

  61. samuel - united WE stand says:

    Dela – i agree that united can’t ever have enough talented attackers as at end of the day, it’s a game of scoring goals but i disagree about Rooney being transformed into a midfielder, he’s a striker. In that position, you need a lot of discipline and that’s never been Rooney’s game. He drifts around and affects the game from several places on the pitch. He’s a forward but also technically good enough to play in the hole behind the main striker but i don’t see him excelling in an orthodox midfield role.

  62. fergie is the boss says:

    samuel – united WE stand – LOL can you imagine Rooney playing midfield with his fitness condition, Christ he came back from pre season over weight. We have seen what it does to a man’s football career playing out of position

  63. tom c says:

    Jesus just saw our team photo, Büttner’s bigger than Young, built like Tony V! would love to watch him play to be honest, looks like a lean, mean, killing machine!

  64. Marq says:

    @DreadedRed

    Don’t bother responding to people who don’t listen. Some people are just so fixated with what they believe as true that nothing else is possible for them. They taunt people who go against their believes and pick on people’s typos when they can’t comprehand the logic put forth. In short, they just want to win, to look good, in any way, any avenue, it doesn’t matter to them. So don’t lower yourself to responding to such people

    Good luck to these people with their lives.

  65. diablored says:

    I can c Angelo replacing Chico as the 4th option, because to be honest that boy isnt scoring enough and is definately not a good enough player to rely on I feel. Good business by Fergie, cause there are also doubts about Welbz finishing abilities! Angelo kinda reminds me of e great Raul

  66. AlphaRS says:

    @Bitter Blue
    Taunting – No, Name Calling – No, Personal Insults – No, Sarcasm – Yes.

    @DreadedRed
    Gentlemen – Yes. Contribution to United Other Than One Season – No.
    I see you are looking at him as a person, where as I am looking at him as his contribution to United.
    We both know each others opinions. No need to go through them again. Some players you like. Some players you don’t.

    @Marq
    Minus the typing errors the same could be said about yourself.
    You have opinons, and I have opinions. But your condecending posts do make me chuckle.

  67. DreadedRed says:

    Okay then, let’s do all the things that YOU want to do.

    I was merely stating there is a difference between the things you are saying I am doing, what I am actually doing, and what you are doing :D

  69. DreadedRed says:

    I was merely being ‘sarcastic’, as you had suggested. I was trying to add humour, somewhat unsuccessfully, oops! Ace Ventura selfishly spends hours playing with a slinky on a staircase a mile long, and moans sarcastically when pressured to continue the journey: “Lets do all the things that YOU want to do”

    I’l try be a bit more obvious and topical with any future sarcasm!

    Anyway, your attempt to hide your overpowering infatuation with Berbatov has failed!
    We know you are actually an undercover “Berba Is My Idol” operative with a complex plan.

  70. Marq says:

    Did I talk to you Alpha?

    Or did something I posted hit a nerve?

  71. AlphaRS says:

    Berba is my idol. My complex plan of bringing The Berb back to United has been thwarted…!
    I will have hatch another more devious plan where The Berb returns to United, perhaps when SAF retires. Lolz.

    Marq no you did not talk to me. As I can not hear you. I can however read your coments.
    Nothing anyone can type on a forum can hit a nerve. Lolz.
