Injury Update: Rooney, Vidic, Chicharito, Cleverley, Smalling, Evans…

Sir Alex Ferguson has today confirmed that Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will be fit to face Norwich tomorrow.

He has also given expected come back dates for longer term injuries, Vidic and Cleverley.

“Wayne and Hernandez should be fit for tomorrow,” Ferguson said. “They’ve been training very well so I’m pleased. We’ll hopefully have Jonny Evans back too. At the moment we’re making too many changes in the back four so hopefully Evans’ return will help us with the defensive part. Vidic, Cleverley and Smalling should be ready after the internationals and available for Liverpool.”

Thank goodness they’re all coming back. From our flying start to the season, the injuries have forced some precarious line-ups. It’s great for fergie to be able to ‘refresh’ the lineup with a fully fit squad to choose from, but not so great when there is no choice

  2. gizmoj says:

Good Good news, although I would have liked to see Owen get more game time its never at the expense of Rooney or the Green one….would be nice to score a few against Norwich but a win is great whatever, good to see Cleverly back after the break too as I really think we missed him after his start…

  3. GAZ says:

will be a big decision to throw Vida back in against the dippers, but i would!!

Anfield,an intimidating place so play our intimidators Vidic,Smalling,Fletcher , Valencia,Jones,Rooney and Young leave Nani out as he can expect more of what he got his last visit.Scare the shit out of them and that’s Seven that wont fuck about with them.

Brilliant news all round, we could see Rooney & Welbeck start tomorrow with Little Pea coming off the bench… Starting to look like the team we started the season with

Time to start on the lineup speculation for tomorrow? I reckon:

    Donut-stealer

    Evra
    Evans
    Ferdinand
    Jones

    Young
    Ando
    Carrick
    Nani

    Rooney
    Welbz

I think Norwich’s defenders are quite physical, so expect Danny to start with that in mind.

Not sure if Fabio’s OK after his knock, so Jones in at RB…

  17. King Eric says:

Fantastic news. Great to hear Jonny is back because as much as I like Rio Jonny has looked the part this season.

  18. King Eric says:

kanchelskis – Alright pal. Donut Stealer??

  19. King Eric says:

Sorry lads, also noticed Rai has informed you himself.

Rai – What you called her pal?

  23. King Eric says:

Pretty amusing to hear West Ham have approached the bitters for a three month loan deal for the judas. Now that cunt playing in the Championship WOULD be amusing. Scumbag shithouse cunt.

  24. 0161-Jon says:

thank fuck, we desperately need Vidic back in that back line!

  25. kanchelskis says:

    @King Eric

It’s such bollocks. It’s the bit that says they were ‘heading for the exit’ which winds me up. How the fuck do they know where he was heading? People munch things in the supermarket all the time then pay for them at the till. Maybe it’s more commonplace in Spain? He earns shitloads. Why would he nick a donut?!

  26. King Eric says:

kanchelskis – Exactly mate. one pound fucking nineteen. They cannot criticise his performances now so resort to this shit. Anyway nowt wrong with a bit of grazing.

  27. the truth says:

Great news. Vida at the back should end our woeful defending for the past couple of games. Wazza and Chico :)

Smalling and Cleverly shouldnt be played against Liverpool but so happy to have them back anyway.

  28. Rai says:

King Eric – Lehaina Rai (Le-Hay-Na)

Thanks for all your messages guys….baby Lehaina says thank you as well!!

I like to pay for De Gea’s donut if it has not been settled. As for Tevez, throw him a ‘donut’ life-saver & into the sea off UK as Neil Warnock suggested.

  32. LexxythenigerianRed says:

Oh , Neil Warnock. What a bloke

  33. wayne says:

  34. Ugochukwu says:

Nice one… Am very very happy to hear that wyen is back, i love that, is a good news for us.

  35. wayne says:

    Warnock

  36. denton davey says:

parryheid @ 12:42: “leave Nani out as he can expect more of what he got his last visit.”

Great idea – leave out one of the two best attackers ! Genius. Besides, Nani might have a low pain threshold but he doesn’t back out of challenges.

I’m not hoping that JamieCarragher tries to open Nani’s leg again with his studs but if he does maybe the referee will have some balls. Errr, at AnFailed – sure !

  37. Cyril Sneer says:

Fantastic news, not just for United but my fantasy team too. I’m losing points with Clev and Smalling being out but Rooney out last weekend was worse. I need him to score a load of goals to get me back in the running.

I hope we smash 10 past Delia’s boys and put the fear into the bin-dipping scum.

  38. Machete says:

    VERY GOOD NEWS I’M HAPPY

  39. Sparkz says:

@ Kanchelskis- Your team is pretty much what I expect it to be. Wouldn’t be surprised if he went with Giggsy in place of Anderson though.

And yeah, as for the Liverpool game….if he’s fit, not a chance that Nani will be left out. He showed in his cameo on Tuesday that he should’ve started that game as well.

  40. kanchelskis says:

    @Sparkz

Have to say I disagree about Giggsy. Ando’s been disappointing in the last couple of outings, but this season, Fergie HAS to give him what he’s been lacking in his previous seasons – a long, consistent run in the side. To me, Norwich at home (with due respect to them) provides the perfect opportunity to do this, even if he’s not playing to the best of his abilities.

Giggsy’s got one more season in him after this, if we’re lucky. Ando has about 10 if we’re lucky. We have to prioritise Ando’s development by giving him the gametime he needs.

  41. ididnotzeeit says:

    @ Cyril

You not able to make changes as you go mate?

Anyway, on topic, fucking chuffed to bits Rooney’s back. Norwich to get a pounding this weekend and Danny-boy to keep up the blistering pace with a brace. I agree with some, Norwich’s physicality makes Welbeck starting a lock for me.

Come’on Wazza, pick up right where you left off.

Back four to get sorted and keep a clean set of linnens please.

    Can’t wait.

    Congrats to Rai!!

  42. MG says:

    Sigh

    Of relief

  43. Sparkz says:

Yeah I was thinking the same thing myself- he needs consistent game time, which he’s never had in the 4 years he’s been here.

Was just putting it out there though, that I wouldn’t be surprised if he was given a rest. He’d maybe see it as a kick up the backside (although being subbed off in 2 of his last 3 games should’ve done that!)

  44. TheCaseAce says:

I’ve seen some moaning about The Guardian recently so here’s an excerpt from today’s live blog.

“Just in case Manchester City manage to find forwards who can be bothered playing, Blackburn Steve Kean is hoping Scott Dann and Michel Salgado will regain fitness in time for tomorrow’s visit to the blue bit (it’s not actually a half, is it?) of Manchester.”

    haha

  45. Cyril Sneer says:

@Ididnotzeeit – Yeah I can but I’m limited to something like 20 subs per season and already went through 5 or so.

I’m so crap at FF because I always put too many United players and refuse to put in guys I hate (Gerrard, JT, Lamps, Cashley) that always do well for other people. Not doing too badly so far but I have far too many bitters in my team (one – Silva).

  46. Zibbie says:

Great for Man Utd, Evans will help the back 4. Rooney and Lil Pea as well. TC after the break!! Then the Captain!

  47. kanchelskis says:

    @Sparkz

Yeh, maybe. He has had a fair bit of game time I suppose, even if he has been getting hooked!

What I would truly love is him to start against Liverpool, Stevie Me to line up for their lot (with the Scousers loving it), and for Ando to take us back to that glorious day in his first season where he absolutely dominated that prick and the centre of the park was his.

  48. Ancha says:

“At the moment we’re making too many changes in the back four”

That explains alot about our poor defending in the last two games, its not just due to players mistakes but they tend to do these when they are not playing consistently there esp in defense

  49. wayne says:

Ando is frustrating, plays well and looks to have turned the corner then throws in a couple of bad ones.Beginning to think this is what we’re going to get.
Doesn’t seem intense and focused, think he goes to the side of laid back and flakey, rather than Keane’s intimidate and win at all costs mentality, not sure if he’s got the mental bottle to maintain a high level of play week in week out.
We’ll know for sure after this season

  50. Sparkz says:

@Kanchelskis- Ando’s definitely a MUST for the Liverpool game. The last 3 seasons running we’ve been absolutely spanked at Anfield, no 2 ways about it. And the main reason has been coz on all 3 occasions, we went with Scholesy in a 2 man midfield.

I love the guy to bits, but he wasn’t cut out for those games. Under both Benitez and Dalglish, Liverpool have a certain game plan against us at Anfield…………get in our faces, high energy, harass the life out of us physically. And we haven’t been able to live with it.

The last time we won at Anfield (2007)- we had a midfield duo of Hargreaves & Anderson- plenty of steel, and they dominated the Liverpool midfield. We also had Rooney & Tevez up front- 2 strikers who closed down the opposition quickly, could handle themselves physically, and worked their socks off….whereas in the last 3 seasons we’ve gone with Rooney and Berba.

This time around, with Anderson + Fletcher/Carrick in the middle of the park, we shouldn’t be dominated like that. And hopefully Welbeck will start alongside Rooney to give us that energy and physical presence we’ll be needing.

  51. parryheid says:

    Denton Davy,

Yes leave Nani out,and yes it would be genious I want powerful fear nowt players for that game and Valencia is just that.Yoy it would appear want pretty football I want a win and Three points,Our power goes in we get the points simple as that,by the way our power players have not a little skill but plenty of dig.

  52. mj says:

…and somewhere in Manchester, Berbatov just cant take the hint.

  53. fergie is the boss says:

It is a big relief seeing rooney and hernandez return for tommorow,

  54. dannysoya says:

YES YES YESSSSS. they are all coming back and just in time too PHEW. roo, chicha, evans, cleverley and most importantly. the brick wall VIDIC. now i’m looking forward to the norwich game again. HAHAHA.

  55. Sparkz says:

Parry, it’d be foolish to leave Nani out if he’s in good form. With the likes of Welbeck, Rooney, Anderson, Fletcher, plus a couple of our beastly defenders………we’ve got more than enough power. Nani’s a matchwinner, and you just don’t leave them out in a game like this.

  56. wayne says:

mj don’t understand what you mean mate,Berba is under contract and the club made it quite clear in the summer Berba was staying,so don’t understand the clubs decision to keep him has anything to do with Berba taking a hint

  57. redevil_83 says:

    about time ffs
i want to see the xi that started teh season take the field again
    vamos you red devilzz

  58. RedManWalking says:

Congrats Rai. My hi to Lehaina.

On topic, can’t wait to see Cleverley in action again. We have missed him big time! And Roo is back yaay! Hope my prediction comes true this time (5-0  )!

  59. Mr C says:

I hope the ref gives our players a little more protection from dirty opposition play than has been evident in recent weeks. If not, it’s entirely possible that this campaign will be settled more in the medical room than on the pitch.

  60. Dragonslayer says:

Although I would prefer that SAF to be leaving our injured players against Norwich so that they will recover as much as possible, wouldn’t want to risk another injury, but we really need them as they are the backbone of the team. Wish all our injured players a speedy recovery.

  61. parryheid says:

    Sparkz.

And Valencia is a matchwinner and built like a brick shithouse to boot as was proved in the season just finished Valencia straightened our front line and gave the midfield an out ball as soon as he returned from his ankle break and it was Nani who played a bit part from then on.As for Anderson I have had it with the unfit 60min shaky passer of a player a whole load of bucks poorly spent imo.

  62. WillieRedNut says:

Fucking chucking it down over here! So much for the heat wave….

Durham winding Quinn up about Dalglish. If Liverpool lose the derby, he should quit. ;)

    Quinny biting lol.

Glad to see players close to returning. Get over this international break and see where we are.

  63. denton davey says:

Kanchelskis @ 14:49: “Have to say I disagree about Giggsy. Ando’s been disappointing in the last couple of outings, but this season, Fergie HAS to give him what he’s been lacking in his previous seasons – a long, consistent run in the side.”

Agree – also SirRyanGiggs was simply pooped after the first half in mid-week. His energy needs to be conserved. Giggs might be still one of the most dangerous attacking players but the managerial decision is complicated by his declining ability to play a full match. A great situational substitute – and doing that he could probably play for two or maybe even three more years.

  64. Red Neck says:

Great news on the injury front especially with the dippers game coming up. With the likes of cleverly, vidic, smalling Rooney and chicha back hopefully we can recapture the excellent form we showed before the Injuries took there toll. While some of our fans have been panicking over recent results it’s worth them remembering just how hard hit we have been. I think Ando will benefit hugely from the return of cleverly as the link up play between themselves Nani, and Wellbeck was first class. The dippers should be afraid very afraid, A fully fit United side could take them apart and put any Notion Stevie the twat me had of this being there year to rest for yet another season.

  65. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Firstly congratulations to Rai and his new born baby girl.

Good to know some players are back for tomorrow especially Evans may tighten up the defence a bit.,

Considering the chaos that ensues on match day and the following BORING international break I’ll see you all just before the vermin game. I’d like to leave you all with the following.

Dimitar Berbatov, one look at city and he said Fuck off.
Dimitar Berbatov, starts on the bench but never mouths off.
Dimitar Berbatov, wins the golden boot buts still gets slagged off.

    See you in a fortnight.

  66. denton davey says:

Sparkz @ 15:30: “This time around, with Anderson + Fletcher/Carrick in the middle of the park, we shouldn’t be dominated like that. And hopefully Welbeck will start alongside Rooney to give us that energy and physical presence we’ll be needing.”

I wonder if SAF might approach this match “in sections” – start with one set of players (perhaps even those three in midfield) and keep it tight for the first half/60 minutes and then juggle things by bringing in, say Young/Nani/Valencia for one of the midfielders and maybe Chicharito when the other guys start to feel the demands of an hour of high-tempo playing.

Another consideration for SAF might be to keep it tight so as to change the team’s mojo – after watching so much sloppiness in three of the last four matches, he might feel that a DefenceFirst approach might be some sort of “lesson” for the troops. I always like “attack, attack, attack” – the old belt-giver/belt-taker style – BUT championships are built on strong defensive foundations and TheLads have strayed from that system recently.

  67. denton davey says:

ParryHeid @ 15:36: I think that you are under-estimating Nani – and over-estimating Valencia and Young. On the issue of skill, it’s no contest; Nani is the player who can “unlock” defences and he’s willing to muck in and defend, too. For me, he’s a no-brainer, first-choice selection whenever he’s fit.

  68. slim says:

Good to see the lads coming back, i hope we see the young strikers slugging it out to partner Rooney get a good crack of the game at the weekend. It’d be a good game to get some of the mojo back .
i hope nani’s chomping at it like a whore on crack, he’s been fantastic going into the season.
A lot’s been said of this player and that but Nani deserves a pat on the back,, he’s switched on big time

  69. parryheid says:

    denton davey.

We’ll have to agree to disagree buddy,he wasn’t last season and we won the league because of it.

  70. Arty4life says:

  71. denton davey says:

parryheid @ 16:14: “in the season just finished Valencia straightened our front line and gave the midfield an out ball as soon as he returned from his ankle break and it was Nani who played a bit part from then on.”

That’s one reading of the situation – an alternative view is that Valencia came back right around the time that Nani was the victim of Carragher’s GBH. SAF’s preference for Valencia ended up costing TheLads in the CL final when Valencia was turned over by Barcelona while Nani would have been much more difficult for them to deal with. Let’s not forget that it was Nani who provided Dimmy with two “sitters” against ManShitty in the FACup semi-final, too.

I agree that Valencia is built like a brick shithouse and that he’s powerful, direct, and fearless but he’s also one-footed, predictable and much, much less skilful/tricky than Nani. For me, Nani is a game-winner and a difference-maker – Valencia is a very, very good player but he’s not all that.

  72. slim says:

    NotoriousRedDevi

    spot on,

  73. King Eric says:

Willie – Hello mate. Best talkshite thing was last night. Brian Granville was on there stating that Citeh and the rentboys were “repugnant”. It was superb. Then Jim White came on and had a pop at City. Danny Kelly said that City fans will get well precious and not to bother calling in as talkshite were entitled to their opinion and in THEIR opinion City are a shambles. It was quality. They said that City had well and truly been spanked on Tuesday at the Allianz.

Oh and as for the dippers Nani has to start. Yes he may go down easily at times but he is a tough little lad to be honest. He is currently one of our best players and why the hell would we leave him out at Anfield.

Ha. Watched a bit of LFC tv last night and they had a supporters group on and they were slating Henderson, Adam and that fat gyppo cunt Carrol. They were still in awe of dogleash though saying that he has put Liverpool “back at the top ” again. The top? What a fucking joke. The delusions of both the aforementioned teams make me laugh, they really do.

  74. slim says:

    denton davey

    bang, spot on again.

  75. kanchelskis says:

    parryheid says:

    denton davey.

We’ll have to agree to disagree buddy,he wasn’t last season and we won the league because of it.

    ____________________________________________________________________________

We won the league more because of his 18 assists and 10 goals, than because of anything Valencia contributed. Not Valencia’s fault obviously, but not sure how Nani comes out badly from those stats in your eyes. Valencia certainly cannot contribute those figures over the course of the season.

Nani’s head dropped towards the end of the season, mainly due to the sudden competition from Valencia. But when his confidence was up, he was ripping teams to shreds, especially in the more open games you always get at the start of the season. The big, tight, physical crunch games which are attritional are naturally more made for Valencia, and I’m sure we’ll see him stepping in for Young and/or Nani as Fergie sees fit as the season progresses.

But Nani is, quite simply, the best winger in the league at the moment. Of course he starts.

  76. King Eric says:

    NRD – Superb mate.

mj – What hint? What are you on about?

  77. King Eric says:

At least Norwich know their stuff. I was reading the last UWS fanzine from the rentboys game and their was an interview with a Norwich supporter. He was asked his thoughts as usual on United, a, the club, b, the manager and c, the team etc. He said that United away fans are THE best in the country.

Ayway lets hope for a performance like the one at Carrow Road in 93 when they couldnt live with Giggs, Eric and Kanchelskis. That counter attacking that day was just ridiculous.

  78. King Eric says:

kanchelskis – Nani is the best winger in Europe right now mate.

slim – Agree with denton on what? That Valencia isnt all that? Well thats an odd one because as soon as Tony V returned last year we looked a much better side.

  79. Skillerspeed says:

This is great news!! hopefully we can keep these guys fit and keep the good form at the start of the season

  80. WillieRedNut says:

King Eric – Didn’t hear it last night mate. Sounds like Kelly was telling the bitters some home truths lol. I hope Everton beat these cunts tomorrow. Gerrard gets injured and Suarez(Cilla Dodd) gets sent off! Dalglish will feeling the old pressure, if they lose this derby.

  81. Costas says:

Good news, although like I said in another thread, it will be risky playing Vida for the first time in 2 months at Anfield. However, seeing how we performed there without him last March, it’s a necessary risk. Tom’s inclusion is a different puzzle though. It will depend om Fergie’s approach I feel. Does he play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1.

  82. Costas says:

And to add to my previous post, Smalling should be a definite starter at Anfield.

  83. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

I agree that Nani should not start vs Liverpool, he has stinkers vs them all the time. We need mentally tough players then the skills.

Glad to hear the 3 lads are back and happier that the rest are back for liverpoo.

    My Team for Norwich;
    De Gea
    Jones Rio Evans Evra
    Nani Carrick/ fletch, Giggs Park
    Rooney Welbeck.

We need to get back to basics, rest Young because International games are coming soon so its best to avoid killing the lad, Carricks in fine form, welbeck earns a game but Owen deserves a few games. Park is bloody awesome and needs to play more IMO, his work rate will rebuild our strong defence of the past.

  84. parryheid says:

I see fuckall to do with Berbatov’s and Hernandez goals then? We’ll see come the end of the season who is or isn’t all that, and we will certainly see if a head drops because of competition or not.Nani is for sure playing very well at the minute and so was Hernandez at this time last year.Anyway I gave my reason for resting him via Liverpool.

  85. Uroko benjamin says:

Great club, great team, what a good news. United till i die.Great club, great team, what a good news. United till i die.

  86. Red Neck says:

Ha ha Queen Kenny and pressure go as well together as scousers and work. Would love to see that little jumped up fucker walk out again.

  87. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Costas, The next few games are going to be interesting from a tactical perspective. Basically, Sir Alex has conceded that the approach we’ve been playing in the early part of the season has been pretty open and that the Basel game definitely proved that fact. He has also said that we need to find the right balance between attack and defense otherwise – as we’ve often discussed on here – we’re going to be found out against the better teams. Now, the interesting bit is how Sir Alex goes about striking that balance. There will be ups and downs along the way, but that is part of the fun.

Also, I think we can play Clevs without any issues as I feel he puts in more work defensively than he is sometimes given credit for. I think Clevs and Fletcher (back to his best) could be great partnership. Ando/Clevs is also pretty great but a bit too open for my liking, and that also depends on which Anderson turns up. Of course, if we are looking at Anderson as our dynamo for the future, then he ought to start. As usual, it is up to Sir Alex to find out which works best.

  88. kanchelskis says:

    @parryheid

Did I say that? I said it was more due to his contributions than it was to anything Valencia offered, or even could have offered even if he’d not got injured.

  89. soren says:

Congratulations to Rai and kisses to the beautiful princess.
I think the same as gora, Rooney and Javier do best partner.
Happy for the return of Evans.

  90. Fred says:

Hello everyone. I bring good news of Abu Dhabi United’s further implosion. First Dzeko, then Tevez and now Kunt Aguero.

    http://www.xposureuncut.com/index.aspx?postID=4940

The wheels are really coming off now. It won’t be too long before player power of the mercenary “superstars” (most of whom have achieved nothing whatsoever in the game of football) forces the board to fire their manager, Roberto Mancini, further exposing what a joke of a club MCFC is to the world football community.

After Mancini is fired, I predict that none other than Rafael Benitez will be given the poisoned chalice that is the City manager job, and do the kind of sterling job he did at Liverpool, i.e. almost complete destruction of the club.

Hmm,You are obviously a Nani fan probably still smarting he got edged sideways in favour of Valencia last season even though it it was proved to be the correct decision.I am also an Nani fan but would have Valencia as one of the first picks over Nani anyday just shows you different folks different viewpoints.l

  93. mikekelly12 says:

    Fred

Lets hope so pal!! Fucking spoilt bastards!! Roll on 3pm Saturday. Viewing a house at 1pm (Cheers Mrs) So not sure how many pints I’ll get down in the Village before kick off.

  94. ginger pele says:

im going 2morrow 2 da game sitting 17 rows up far corner end near stretford end CANT WAIT give some goals! payed good money!

  95. King Eric says:

Fred – Alright mate. Yeah as Brian Granville said last night city are a “repugnant club”. Fucking project my arse.

  96. mikekelly12 says:

    Ginger Pele

Hope its better than Tuesday for ya….I saw 6 goals only 1 in the Stretford end!! It was the last minute equaliser though!!

  97. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

Team for Liverpoo is hard to pick:

We need mentally tough players along with ability and work rate. The last thing we want against Suarez,Downing,Adam,Gerrard is 10 men – those guys are the best at exploiting space at Trashpool.

Luis Sorrez destroyed Evra last year so we need to play smartly at anfield.
    The only players I can think of Perfect for the starting XI are;

-Smalling at Centre back or Right….Centre back would mean no Rio (lack of pace) but still :???:
-Park to Cover up Evra’s attacking instincts.
-Carrick and Fletcher would be the best to combat Lucas,Adam, Gerrard….Ando could do a job but he’s been aweful lately and can only play with Giggs and Clevs in the middle which is very unlikely.
    - Chico will get hurt vs Liverpoo, Playing a big lad like Danny will scare off Carragher.
    - Valencia over Nani….luis enrique is a quality Left back and attacker, needs to taken care of.

My choice on fifa would be

    De Gea
    Smalling Rio Vida Evra
    Valencia Carrick Fletch Park
    Rooney Welbeck

    or

    De Gea
    Smalling Rio evans/Vida Evra
    Valencia Carrick Ando Giggs Park
    Rooney

  98. FletchTHEMAN says:

Cracking news. Vidic on the way is best think here after Rooney, Also desperate for Danny and Tom to get back to more of what they were doing at the start of the season. Cracking stuff.

@ Rai Congrats! Lehaina Rai is a really beautiful name. Hope she grows up red mate. Buy her a deGea shirt as the lasses always love the keepers. Not going to why… just from personal experience. ?)

  99. dannysoya says:

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO RAI ON HIS BABY GIRL. ANOTHER RED TO ADD TO THE FAMILY.

  100. MG says:

Theirs a baby in the Republik!

And long may United be forever in heart and soul :)

Congratulations more first to mum than dad but dad would get that :D

As is always the case for us dads ;)

Something remarkable happened in school today

Switched down from year 6 to year 1 in school just for Fridays and oh boy a little girl started crying because she couldn’t write her sentence well

Their was me in a right proper state with my teacher looking down who also happened to be the Deputy Head (no pressure their then!) and so a thought occurred in my mind which went like this:

It’s the 90th minute and United are down so what would United do? Give up? Or Just go for it?

So I went for it – didn’t give up – kept the kid calm – got her to stop crying – and made her write her sentence

Before long she was my best friend ;)

It is not for us to fail – at any cost but what it is is for us to never give up no matter what the result – as long as the heart and soul are in their then nothing will ever stop us

Much like a certain team I – we are privileged to support

    19

  101. ginger pele says:

mike kelly how is it coz its my first time!

  102. mikekelly12 says:

    Ginger Pele

How is what pal? I was just saying, hope you see more goals down the stretford end (from us of course) as that is where you’ll be sat on Saturday, than I did last Tuesday. Only 1 out of 6 in the stretford end isn’t really fair! Anyway pal, hope you have a belter, enjoy the day and hopefully the result.

  103. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

Bayern I am afraid could become a force to match us Barca and Madrista.

    a Line up of;

Neuer, Lahm,Boeteng,Van Buyton, Rafina, Muller, Swinesteiger,Kroos, Robben,Ribery, Gomez

Would strike fear into many !

  104. Mahesh says:

Lol! Even if De Gea is nicking stuff (which I cannot condone), I’m glad its a donut. Atleast he’s taking the task of putting on them pounds seriously!

  105. Fred says:

    Gordon Burns – legend.

  106. King Eric says:

ManchesterMike – Fair play to Beckenbaur for those comments. City not a great club like United! Nice one Franz. Althought I agree with clint. Bayern are a very dangerous and well drilled side.

  107. Fred says:

Manchester Mike – thanks for the link. Franz Beckenbauer is a legend and a gentleman.

Strange of him to say that Bayern have been relatively anonymous in the last few years – they were finalists in 2010, that’s no mean feat! Nice of him to put the boot into Manchester Ciddy though. All true football men agree that they are a completely plastic club and will never be on the level of United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Milan, Ajax etc.

Congratulations to Rai! Wonderful news. :)

  108. Cyril Sneer says:

@Costas – Good to see some revenge on the Bitters with that poster but ‘Welcome to Carlos, Manchester’ is a bit lame. They could at least have put ‘Stockport’.

My ‘Tevita’ poster is way better

    http://agentoffergie.blogspot.com/2011/09/which-poster.html

  109. Fred says:

    Costas, here’s the pic:

    http://s1.proxy04.twitpic.com/photos/large/411093732.jpg

    I don’t really get it. :?

Why are MUST wasting their supporters’ donations on such things?

  110. CedarsDevil says:

    MG

Lovely post, as inspirational as ever

  111. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

Tevita poster  Cyril you are a legend

  112. Fred says:

FFS, the poll on that Mirror site: Who should replace Capello as England manager?

    Harry Redknapp
    Roy Hodgson
    Sam Allardyce
    Mick McCarthy
    Ian Holloway
    Neil Warnock
    Steve Bruce
    Stuart Pearce
    Arsene Wenger
    Owen Coyle
    Martin O’Neill
    Guus Hiddink
    Other

Christ, what a glittering array of candidates.

  113. WillieRedNut says:

That press conference today was key stone cops stuff. The people behind the scenes must of known every jurno there would be asking the Tevez question? Instead of using common sense, and cancelling the bloody thing, they ban all questions about sulky bollox, knowing Mankini will get the Spanish inquisition lol.

  114. CedarsDevil says:

    Fred

Dare I say we can add Liverpool to your list as well! (Sanitizing my hands straight after that1)

  115. AnomanderRake says:

    @Fred…

I think they are try to say (You are) Welcome to Carlos

  116. Fred says:

No we can not add Liverpool!

  117. Cyril Sneer says:

@Papi – are you voting for ‘Tevita’ then? I’m getting one of them printed tomorrow and sending it to the council house. Think I’ll address it to Scarf, joke will be wasted on the troll. :-)

  118. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@MG, Great stuff mate! I think more people should do that – draw inspiration from United that is. I do it all the time when going to exams, did it before the one interview I attended in college, did it before going to training at work and so on. Each time I think to myself, you are a Manchester United fan, if you don’t face a challenge head-on and come out victorious on the other side, there is no point in being one. Just like your case. Brilliant!

@Cyril, Trust me, if you don’t use that Tevita poster, I have no idea what I am going to do.

  119. CedarsDevil says:

Ok fair enough Fred, Celtic then! :-)

  120. WillieRedNut says:

I’d go for other. Heard he’s an up and coming manager…. ;)

  121. AnomanderRake says:

    @MG

    Great anecdote mate.

Coincidentally I went to a school whose motto was “Never Give In”

Ties in very well with being a ManUnited supporter.

  122. Fred says:

Rakey – I’ve got to say, it’s crap. “Welcome to Carlos Manchester” :? There are so many better parodies of that poster all over the internet. They’ve scored an own goal with this one imo, and as I said, how does this stunt help MUST achieve their stated goals? They’ve gone from trying to overthrow the Glazer regime to getting involved in tit-for-tat publicity stunts with Citeh. It’s a bunch of horse shit if you ask me, but then again, so was the original poster.

  123. Cyril Sneer says:

Kenny Dalglish or Rafa Benitez should get the England job. Better yet how about a round of musical manager’s chair:

    Redknapp replaces Capello.
    Mancini replaces Redknapp.
    Hodgson replaces Mancini.
Dalglish replaces Hodgson (for the second time)
Benitez replaces Dalglish (this time it’s personal)
Capello heads off to that Russian team with all the cash. (Machalacha Smurgleglurk or something)

    Fergie laughs at them all.

England still win nothing but change is good yah?

  124. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie

Thought the same thing when I saw that list, being at the bottom of it by no means makes ‘other’ less qualified

  125. Fred says:

Tevita’s anthem: “Don’t cry for me Man City, the truth is I never loved you…”

Eat your heart out Andrew Loyd Webber.

  126. Cyril Sneer says:

@Balaji – we shall see, depends which one gets the most votes.

  127. Fred says:

You guys are too cynical. Neil Warnock would get England playing the right way imo. He’s the man to lead us to World Cup glory in Brazil 2014.

  128. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

yes Cyril….Tevita wins, the fatso has been exposed for 2nd time in his career as a money grabber.

Capello will 100% fuck off to Anzhi Makelele

  129. Balaji Sivaraman says:

You guys don’t know anything. Harry Redknapp and England are a match made in heaven. It has everything – The Board, the players and the manager all will be so tactically unaware and naive that it will be an absolute blast to watch – especially for us United fans.

  130. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – You can never rule other out. He’s a dark horse in this race.

  131. CedarsDevil says:

Agreed Willie, sort of reminds me of own goal, any idea how long is he out for? We will need him as the games start coming thick and fast

  132. TonyBee says:

If Carlos Tevez doesn’t wanna play in europe he should have signed for Liverpool.

  133. FletchTHEMAN says:

RE Redknapp for England, Think its a done deal to be honest.
Wants the money wants the glory, ugly as sin, and has a family that he can bring in to be looking over everyones shoulder.

It will be the Cosa Nostra for football

  134. Mikekelly12 says:

    Willie
    So is black beauty!

  135. lordrt says:

What about that news of DDG shoplifting? Does it mean he will face the wrath of SAF and be left out for this game?

  136. WillieRedNut says:

True Mike. What a stallion! :)

  137. Fred says:

Worse than that, lordrt – I’m hearing whispers that he has been transfer listed! :(

  138. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – We haven’t seen own goal in a while. Maybe tomorrow?

  139. lordrt says:

lol @Fred, no way mate, they can dump him in reserve and then call him back later on but not transfer list him, unless he had robbed the whole store haha

  140. CedarsDevil says:

Willie – Would rather have him back for the Liverpool match to be honest, not to forget that Carragher needs a couple to catch up with Dunne!

Fred – Heard he was banished from OT altogether!

  141. onside says:

Hey fellas, check this out. The latest book on United:

    http://supebrity.posterous.com/manchester-united-players-careers

  142. WillieRedNut says:

I see StR has glazed over the De gea story.

  143. CedarsDevil says:

Just heard Wenger’s pre match conference ahead of their game at Spurs..

‘I never understood the difference between playing home or away, its just another match’

Err, I was under the impression that this is an intelligent person… What about home support Wenger, that counts for nothing?

Suppose playing at the Emirates makes no difference to them as they are always out sung anyway…

  144. Fred says:

lordrt – LOL seriously, he won’t be punished in any way for this – maybe a word in his ear from the boss but nothing more. I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding.

My predicted team to face Norwich:

De Gea; Fabio, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Young; Rooney, Welbeck.

Might be worth giving old Patrice a rest for this one and playing Fabio on the left, Jones on the right. Sir Alex rarely ever rests Evra though, so I don’t see that happening, especially as Evra is the team captain at present.

  145. WillieRedNut says:

Tell ya what? Whoever the jurno was, that got the De gea scoop, is a jammie bastard!

  146. onside says:

    Sabaho CedarsDevil

You forgot to mention all the other benefits of playing at home: familiarity with the surroundings, not having to spend half the day travelling by coach, the ref being influenced by the crowd, the players wanting to impress their fans.

Perhaps he can’t tell the difference because United always seem to beat him regardless the venue.

  147. Fred says:

    Don’t sugarcoat it, Willie!

  148. CedarsDevil says:

    onside

Way late into the evening here for sabaho, but right back at you buddy!

In a way I would have expected Wenger to know all these things himself! Strange comments really..

    Willie

You seem to be on a jam roll my friend

  149. smartalex says:

That donut story is full of holes.

  150. WillieRedNut says:

I wondered when my partner n pun would turn up! Dunkin Ferguson?

  151. MG says:

Evening Cedars! Balaji – I’m coming to Dubai mate but not leaving the airport on my way to Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur! It would have been great to see you – will have to be next time :D – AnomanderRake – if you wouldn’t mind mate I would so like to use that name in my spy story ;)

Thank you for your words and Evening all

Bit balmy outside – phew

  152. CedarsDevil says:

Credit where its due…. No one can keep up with you two.. I for one love it.

  153. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Cedars, That’s why I don’t try at all. It is a pleasure to read them both, but boring, meandering, pointless essays are more my thing. :P

@MG, Hey, there’s always the future. I would’ve loved to meet you too. In fact, I think it would be great to have an ROM meet up. The logistics would come in the way obviously, but if we could, that would be awesome.

  154. MG says:

    Mmmmmmmm Doughnuts

    Ahhhhhhhhhh

  155. smartalex says:

The Glazers covered a lot of dough for de Gea, now some half-baked ring takes the cake.

  156. CedarsDevil says:

My last post was of course for Willie & smartalex….

MG – Take out time and drop off to Lebanon for a couple of days… With me as host you may never want to leave!

  157. MG says:

    Balaji

Their is only one place to meet

    OT Manchester United ;)

One day my good man one day…

    19

  158. MG says:

    Cedars

    I’d be honoured :)

  159. CedarsDevil says:

    Balaji

You and Stateside I never find boring, as hard as it seems for the both of you to write one bloody liners to make a point! I do in all seriousness enjoy reading them

  160. Cyril Sneer says:

    mmmm sprinkles…

  161. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@MG, NOOOO, don’t do it. The last thing I need here is another person bragging about women in bikinis all day. Trust me, one is enough to fuel my fantasies.

  162. WillieRedNut says:

Chocolate flavoured glazed sweetness! Sean Carter is a lucky bastard.

  163. smartalex says:

D avid exponent of finger-tip saves and counter-attacking, passed perfection and eight two.

  164. Balaji Sivaraman says:

    @Cedars, Thanks my friend. :)

Trust me, I try. Each time I see any of you guys make a point in a few lines, I wonder why I cannot do that. But each time I start writing, it turns out to be longer than I had originally intended. :)

  165. MG says:

Their Balaji goes again doing his Lawrence of the Emirates impression

  166. MG says:

    Balaji

I have to say I agree to a point – however the more the merrier – Watson would agree

  167. Cyril Sneer says:

Will having sticky sprinkles on his hands help David catch the ball?

Sticky Sprinkles… sounds like a porn star :-)

  168. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie & smartalex

Right guys, we know you’re good but no point showing off now eh?

    Balaji

You’re welcomed too my friend hahaha , in fact any one of you nutters thinking of a dream vacation to my current part of the world just let me know… It would be a pleasure to take time out and show you around

  169. WillieRedNut says:

Is Balaji lost in tranquility? ;)

  170. smartalex says:

David de Gea’s girlfriend made Wayne Rney a Get-Well Cake.

  171. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@MG, Trust me, that Cedars is one twisted fellow. Because of him, each time I go to the book store, I spend a few minutes by the Cooking section and stare at a good collection of Nigella Lawson books, before moving on to the fiction section. It has almost become a drill.

  172. denton davey says:

KingEric @ 16:48: ” Agree with denton on what? That Valencia isnt all that? Well thats an odd one because as soon as Tony V returned last year we looked a much better side.”

I think that you’ve misinterpreted my remark @ 16:35 – I was saying that Antonio Valencia skill-set “isn’t all that” in comparison to Nani’s:

“he’s powerful, direct, and fearless but he’s also one-footed, predictable and much, much less skilful/tricky than Nani. For me, Nani is a game-winner and a difference-maker – Valencia is a very, very good player but he’s not all that.”

I hope that this clarifies what I meant to say.

  173. smartalex says:

    CedarsDevil

No more then, it’s just that as David was admitted to the circle of trust, he ate it!

  174. MG says:

    Balaji

Cedars can do that to you – Lebanese charm and all

    Willie

    No; tranquility lost in Balaji

  175. Cyril Sneer says:

Q – How does Bob Marley like his doughnuts?
    A – Wi’ jammin’

  176. smartalex says:

David was probably thinking of Nigella when these 2 gigantic doughnuts appeared, and he couldn’t resist!

  177. CedarsDevil says:

Why the Norwich match has a special place in my heart…. Was an away match of course, but non of us at the time could of predicted what happened on the night… For you that do not recall, this game had a lot of bearing on us winning our first title in 26 years… For those that do not know, Norwich City were actually contenders for the title that year!

  178. WillieRedNut says:

I’m Jonesin for some dunkin goodness. A Megan Fox Pink one for me gaffer! Some sprinkles on top of that please.

  179. Cyril Sneer says:

Balaji knows Nigella but does he know Delia and her Norwich football connections?

TV chef, Norwich and football reference in one hit.

Awesomeness you have a new master and his name is Cyril Sneer

  180. MG says:

You know you lot are firing doughnut liners all over the place and for once I can’t come up with anything

    Carry on doughnuts

  181. MG says:

As in like the film Carry on – better clear that one up quickly!

  182. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@denton, But I don’t think anyone can say Valencia cannot make a difference in big matches, can they? In the season before last, Valencia was the sole provider of a large percentage of Wayneboy’s goals. In tight games, where all you need is for someone to whip the ball in so that one of our guys can get a clear shot at goal, Valencia is the man. Nani may have a better skill set than Tony V, but Anto’s got just as much assists has Nani has (Don’t know the exact stat and don’t want to either). Even just as recent as last week, Sir Alex was down the touchline blasting Nani for playing with the ball instead of just whipping it in; and the fact that Valencia can do that 10 out of 10 times with deadly accuracy makes him just as much a match-winner as Nani can be on his day; notwithstanding his higher skill set of course.

I also don’t see the need to keep comparing one United player to another just to prove a point. Do I agree with you that Nani might’ve made a bigger impact than Valencia on May 28th? Yes, but we also have hindsight which our great manager does not. But the fact remains that we could pick any 2 of our 3 wingers and end up with the best wide-partnership currently in world football. We will need Nani’s skill set and superior technique in certain matches; just as we will need Valencia’s work-rate and accuracy in others (especially against lower placed, physical sides); as we will need Young’s ability on the left always. It is as simple as that.

  183. MG says:

    What about Sophie Dahl?

    Yum yum lovely Dahl

  184. smartalex says:

    Brilliant memory, thanks CedarsDevil!

Giggs, Kanchelskis and Cantona, fucking YAY!

    What’s Ryan doing these days?

  185. Cyril Sneer says:

    I doughn’t know about Sophie Dahl, I’ve heard she’s a bit of a dough-nutter

  186. WillieRedNut says:

I love you all, but you’re all fucking donuts!

  187. smartalex says:

Sprinkle flour on his Camel, and Balaji will blow doughnuts instead of smoke rings.

  188. Cyril Sneer says:

David was just gonna buy the doughnut for Tevez to cheer him up. The Tevmeister loves a nice sweet treat when he’s feeling down and homesick.

Surely a case of ‘Doughn’t cry for me Argentina.’

  189. MG says:

To Doughnut or not to doughnut

    ?

  190. MG says:

    I’m trying –

  191. Cyril Sneer says:

David would have paid for it but he didn’t have any (you guessed it) dough!

  192. Balaji Sivaraman says:

    Wait…. what??

My camel is not going to like that.

  193. WillieRedNut says:

Camel donut? Two humps with that?

  194. dazbomber says:

doughnut know if i am coming or going

  195. Cyril Sneer says:

David wanted the doughnut for his sweet-eating dog. apprently it’s a dough-berman.

  196. CedarsDevil says:

    My pleasure smartalex…..

Now carry on you RED nutters…. Bloody love this place

  197. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Update on MUST Billboard,
It got a mention on the BBC as noted by STS and Fred
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-15132323

“Billboard” is now trending on Manchester Twitter.

    It is pretty brilliant.

I would like to point out a correction for the BBC story, they said that the original “Welcome to Manchester” was put up by city fans. But I think that is incorrect. The original was paid for by their club. Big difference and really pathetic.

  198. WillieRedNut says:

    Balaji has the hump.

  199. smartalex says:

Dough, so dear, for de Gea
Pay no drop, was told The Sun
Free, a nut, ate all himself
Far, a long long way to run
    So, a blog-hit pulling thread
Ha, a Goat to follow Tony-
Bee, I think with Scott the Red
That will bring us back to dough oh oh

  200. smartalex says:

Camel doughnuts, for desert, from the baking son.
    Top Gea, with camel roadkill!

  201. smartalex says:

If Lampard moves to wastelands, Scott could add to the “This Is How It Feels Obesity:”

  202. WillieRedNut says:

Lampard rode a camel to the local donut store. He dunked his heed in, but couldn’t fit through the hole.

  203. smartalex says:

Frank furtively hot-dogging fat rolls rapidly in Vienna. He has a future.

  204. King Eric says:

Cedars. Hello mate. Yeah mentioned that three one at carrow road earlier. They couldn’t live with Eric, Giggsy and Kanchelskis that night. Loved Inceys lung bursting run. A superb display of counter attacking at its best.

Fred. Evening pal. I am inclined to agree with you on the billboard. We are bigger and better than that. We have no need to sink to their bitter levels.

Reckon fletch will start tomorrow. Yes anderson needs games but so does fletch and last two games ando has done himself no favours. Without a shadow of a doubt we need fletch for anfield and not giving him a run tomorrow will do no good at all.

Everton to beat the dippers tomorrow.

  205. King Eric says:

Fuck me. What a midfield. Just watching opening game from 93\94 season away at Carrow Road and we had a midfield THREE of Robbo, Keane and Ince.

  206. soren says:

De Gea needs carbohydrates but should not get that way ha ha

  207. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

We’ve been blessed with great centre midfielders in the past…Robson,Keano, Scholes was amazing.

In the past we played 4-4-2 with the 2 in the middle grabbing the game by the throat & choking the life out the opposition and since Keano, all we have had is a bunch of the guys grabbing the game by the wrists and telling the opposion to watch themseves.

The difference is those guys was Heroes.
Carrick,Fletch,Hargreaves,Anderson,Smith,Djemba Djemba, Veron etc was/are a bunch of firefighters asked to put out the fire whilst the Heroes was the water to the fire of Arsenal’s prime years, Juventus, Newcastle etc.

I miss Scholes, even at 35, the legend took the game and German suplexed it.

Clint. Hello mate. I think when Fletch is on full form he can grab a game by the scruff and boss it. I am hoping ando will in due course too. When he HAS performed well like early doors he was bossing the games. Just last couple he has looked dodgy. He is great at running at opponents. He should just keep his passes simple and leave the hollywood balls to Carrick.

Balaji @ 21:45: ” Even just as recent as last week, Sir Alex was down the touchline blasting Nani for playing with the ball instead of just whipping it in”

Was that when Nani laid a far-post cross on a plate for SirRyanGiggs in the last minute against Stoke ? or was it when he did the same for Ashley Young against Basle ?

I simply don’t accept your suggestion that Valencia is “just as much a match-winner as Nani can be on his day”. Valencia is predictable and one-footed; he’s also fast, powerful and a reasonably good crosser – not as good as Ashley Young, mind you. For what it’s worth, I’d rank Nani first, Young second, and Valencia third among UTD’s wingers – I recognize that Valencia is one hell of a “third-choice” player but, then, so too is Danny Welbeck as well as Phil Jones/Chris Smalling.

In fact, it seems to me that using Antonio Valencia as a right back might be one of those flashes of inspiration that solves two problems at once. He’s superior to any other right back as an attacker – and his strength, power, discipline, and determination are all valuable assets in a defender and he’s such a good footballer that I don’t see deploying him as right back as a terribly-difficult transition for him – but it’s hard to see him displacing Nani as the first-choice right winger.

King Eric @ 23:09: “Reckon fletch will start tomorrow. Yes anderson needs games but so does fletch and last two games ando has done himself no favours. Without a shadow of a doubt we need fletch for anfield and not giving him a run tomorrow will do no good at all.”

I agree with you even though I am an unreconstructed Andersonian – but an even bigger fan of DarrenFletcherinho.

I don’t think Anderson was so bad in the two previous matches in which the ball was played around the midfield by both Stoke and Basle. I can’t see LiverPoo having the wing-flair or -power to do that – while Andy Carroll hasn’t done much so far this season or since his transfer – so they’ll probably try to look to spring Suarez through the middle and hope to catch UTD’s central defence square.

    King Eric – Alright mate

I agree with you, but the legends did their role for a really long period of time. Fletch became something special after 2007-08 season when he was sadly dropped for the CL Final. But 2010-11 was a year to forget for him. Hopefully before christmas he becomes the beast of the last 3-4 years. He has the potential, ability and fire in him. The lads got a great range of passing, very underrated.

Ando had me drooling against Barca (friendly) Pre season and every game until the last 3. But he doesn’t mix well with others except for Clevs and imo he is too good to be restricted in a midfield 2 which requires Discipline and awareness of timing and efficiency in play.

I understand times have changed & you no longer find players in the same mould of our legends but the Evolution of our team should lead to Ando,Clevs,Fletch to lead our midfield while Tunni and Pog improve. I reckon Jones on the odd day could play a Yaya Toure role, they seem identical in terms of influence.
Yaya Toure, when he first joined Barca was similar to how Jones moves and passes with the ball. i don’t know if anybody else see the resemblance in terms of ability but Jones has the potential to be a Viera/Keano for us in his early days then move to Centre back at 23/24.
