While I am not sure, I think at this moment it would be better to give him a chance, than pay an astronomical fee for another striker. We have quality upfront already with Tevez, Rooney, and yes, Saha. Add Manucho and Campbell to those names and you have a nice striking core. Tevez scored 19 goals with somewhat limited minutes in the beginning and I believe should be where we invest our money. Lets wait another summer and see who else is available at that time, I am not convinced that Berba and Huntelaar can force there way into our starting 11. I would rather have Tevez and Rooney upfront, with the quality midfield we have.

The young players I was impressed with were Cleverley and Possebon who have both played well. Possebon has some real quality and will get some good time this year and is the player to watch for United. Fergie has said Possebon will stay with the first team and I believe he can give us a lift similar (but on smaller scale) to what Anderson did last year.

United are having some growth in there youth development, with the singing of the Roma youngster, plus Possebon, Evans, Simpson, and Campbell who all have quality futures in the game. I hope we can continue to find players, help them develop, and wrep all the benefits we did last year, with Rooney and Ronaldo’s development paying off.

Campbell will never make it on the big stage. Sorry, but that’s my judgement after watching him for a long time now. I’ll hold my hands up if I am proved wrong, but don’t think I will be.

Campbell has blazing speed and a fine goal-scoring record wherever he has played; perhaps he can do well with better players or maybe he is another “nearly man”.

SAF sees these guys in training all the time so it’s not as if game-experience is required to come to a decision about being “good enough” – or not. And, as was written earlier, the days of slowly “blooding” a youngster are over – this is a new world order in which superstars like Tevez, Ronaldo, Rooney, Anderson, and Nani are brought in because they have already shown themselves to be “good enough”. For Campbell (or Welbeck or Evans) to be “good enough” they have to excel on the practise pitch in order to get a chance to be on the bench. It’s tough but it’s also the reality of the new world order of high stakes footie.

I would not be to surprised if we get a few youngsters through in the next couple of years. My favourite to make the cut is Possebon who looked a class act when I watched him in the Manchester Senior Cup final.
