“It’s going to be a special game for Ronaldo”

Real Madrid director, Emilio Butragueno, has claimed that playing Manchester United in the next round of the European Cup will be a special occasion for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It’s going to be a special game for him,” he said. “He’s a great professional and he will do his best for Real Madrid. So yes, going back there, it will be very special for him. From the players’ perspective, they will think ‘I want to show what I’m made of’. It is going to be important for us to get our injured players back and I hope we will be at our best for the first leg. In football, you never know.”

Butragueno has also reflected on the quality of the draw, with two of the biggest clubs in the world battling it out for a place in the quarter-finals.

“I think the fans will be very very happy with the tie, it’s very attractive. It’s going to be a thrilling experience for everybody,” he continued. “Manchester United are a great team and a great organisation, one of the most prestigious in the world. So we are very happy. We have a very good relationship with them. We know it is going to be difficult, a very even tie. They are a very strong team with great leadership – Sir Alex Ferguson has been there for 25 years. He’s a fantastic manager and he knows how to make the most out of his players. So we know it’s going to be very, very difficult. But we are Real Madrid – we will do our best and rise to the occasion.”

Lets just hope he’s less effective than the last time he came across a former club of his…

He’s right about one thing, it will be a cracking game. 2 biggest clubs. Tasty tasty.

But I bet Real will be wishing the microphones were off when Perez says
“Good, Manchester, good. All seems well. We have played twice before and we have eliminated.”

3rd time lucky! Ha, let’s do this!

Ronaldo will be pumped up for this, his ego will not let it be any other way. He loves the attention and old trafford is the place for him to get motivated for (not that he ever loses motivation). We’ll need to play effectively and efficiently in both games. Need to suffocate ronaldo and his suppliers on the pitch. The likes of Alonso, ozil, modric, di maria and,coentrao/marcelo have to be nullified, their threats has to be less. We need to be sharp and intelligent on and off the ball, denying space. United really have to up their game defensively, giving them a goal,or two head start will mean no recovery, united will chase shadows for both ties, really united need to shore up the back line.

I think the best approach is counter attack. Win the ball quick, if the opportunity arises then break with speed and then be clinical when opportunity arises.

Thier midfield is really strong, fergie needs to find that right balance again. I would go with carrick, kagawa and a,fit anderson. They seem the right combination of,m positioning/experience, guile and imagination, and marauding power. Not ruling out tom,as he may well play but he,can’t afford his defensive slackness. The pairing of rafael and valencia could be key to trying to restrict ronaldo but the man is so talented and able to play across the final 3rd, stopping him will need,to be done collectively. He’s not the only danger man, united would be naive to think so, they have quality everywhere, even the likes of callejon can come off the bench. Add united’s nemesis kaka the list and the defensive minded strenght of khedira and essien we are in for a tough one. It’s not impossible to beat them but it is a massive challenge. Focus,on what united havr in front of them and that’s,a game at a top swansea team. Another tough game, we can’t afford to divert focus from what,we have in front of us.

LOL costas that is everyone’s hope but knowing Ronaldo, if he had the choice to choose only TWO GAMES next year where he would play at his absolute best, it would be the two United games. Make no mistake. Madrid were the LAST team I wanted. they always want to prove they are Europe’s best team and they LOVE massive games like this when the media spotlight is extremely sharp. Plus let’s be honest, they have better players than us for the most part.

But the MAJOR reason why I think we have a fairly good chance of progressing is because nowadays we play as a TEAM rather than individuals. everybody does their job effectively. If we continue this immense show of teamwork and unity, then we just might beat Madrid over two legs.

Where I think the game could be lost is in midfield (SHOCK, HORROR). Madrid have some of the best , most technically gifted midfielders in the game. We are gonna have to find a way to nullify their threat to have a chance in this game.

Should be a good tie and HOPEFULLY we come out on top cuz I think that if we beat Madrid then we have a BIG chance of going all the way.

  8. Van Da Man says:

we are ManUnited we can beat any team…. BELIEVE

  9. Costas says:

If we want to make a real go at the Ch.League, then we were going to come across a very good team at some point. Of course it sucks that we topped the group and ended up with a tougher draw than Galatasaray, but the way I look at it, this is the perfect test. Are we good enough to win the cup? We will knock out one of the favorites. Are we not good enough? We will get the tournament out of the way as soon as possible and focus on the league.

I wish I could say what it will take to beat Real, but it’s anyone’s guess. What’s really important is that we have rich options at CM and CB heading into those games.

  10. Valiant Red says:

We need Nani for this game… Let’s give him the cheer & I am sure Sir Alex is playing his own mind game to get Nani back to his best. Come’on Reds
