Manchester United have confirmed today that Joel Pereira will spend next season on loan with Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal. The Portuguese club finished 14th last season.
Pereira has represented Portugal’s U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 level and was part of their squad for the 2016 Olympics, although played for Switzerland at U-15-U17 level. The goalkeeper was born in Switzerland and played in Portugal for the first time last season when joining Belenenses on a four month loan. He was recalled by United when we loaned out Sam Johnstone in January.
Pereira has been at United since he was 16 and Mourinho has labelled him as “the best Portuguese goalkeeper of the next generation”. Having been given 180 minutes during the pre-season tour, the 22-year-old has a great opportunity to prove himself in the season ahead.
