Jones: We Want Reds Happy Today

Ahead of what could be his first league Manchester derby, Phil Jones has claimed nasty atmosphere don’t effect him and he’s hoping it’s our fans smiling come the final whistle.

“I played for Blackburn against Burnley and that was pretty hostile, although I would imagine this tops that one,” he said. “The atmosphere doesn’t bother me too much. We’ve been away in the Champions League and played in hostile atmospheres. This is obviously going to be massive for both clubs. It means a lot to the fans. Hopefully we can get one over on them and make our supporters happy.”

@ cedars. Blue plastic seats. Utd are up to beating anyone, shitty are a bit overconfident which has been our undoing in the past. Like the fact we don’t underestimate them anymore which i’m sure why we’ve had the upper hand in recent meetings during the project years. Come on Reds!

  5. Costas says:

    Make us happy then. :)

james21 – Well said, I would also imagine that beating the bitters these days probably gives the boss even more satisfaction than beating Liverpool.

Kings, King Eric & smartalex – If you guys are reading this I hope you will start posting again, this place needs you fellas.

Heyya Cedars… slow day or what? :-)

  8. redrider says:

Costas mate… what are the chances of Tom in the XI?

  9. james21 says:

@ cedars. I’m sure you’re right, thats why he played the team he did against the dippers. A game we could have won with a different starting line up. He’s knocked em off their perch now will want to make sure the bitter posnan pricks stay firmly in our shaddow.

  10. The Big Red says:

i hope we start with berbatov. city might just start wid a very defensive midfield and we need someone who can not only hold hte ball but also open up the defence. fergie always springs surprises like he did against liverpool, wont be surprised if berba gets a start today. doubt jones will line up in midfield tho

  11. redrider says:

yaya toure and gullit?? Gullit was that bad?

    Good Afternoon ROM!

Let’s see whether Jonesy plays today. If he does, you can expect him to lay into City with all his heart. But Sir Alex may just go for the experience of Rio and Vida with both of them being fit, and this being the most important derby in his time with us. If at all Jones plays, it could be in MF like at Liverpool (but that will be too defensive) or at RB in place of Smalling because I think Jones is a much better attacking threat than Chris.

I cannot see Tom starting today even if he is fit, which I don’t think he is. The best match for him to make a come back from such a long layoff would be the mid-week game against Aldershot. That should bring him up to speed.

We all know that City will go 4-5-1 because Mancini is a defensive bastard, and he knows that a draw will be good for them since they will remain top, and it will allow them to put up a few new posters around Manchester with the league table as well. Normally, I would be happy with a 4-4-2 with Rooney coming to help with MF duties if necessary. But I can also see Sir Alex maybe going with a 4-5-1 matching City’s five in MF. As usual, I am not going to predict anything when it comes to Sir Alex’s line up, but my heart is telling me a 4-4-2 to lay it into City form early on while my head is suggesting 4-5-1 to be on the safer side allowing us to be more expansive later on in the game.

One thing I will say is this – I will be surprised if any of our continental players start this game. That means Anderson and Chicharito especially from our usual starters. Danny is nailed on to start if we go a 4-4-2 just because he’s a Mancunian lad. Ditto for Fletch as well. I think we may even see a start for Park if Sir Alex is looking to be more defensive. We need players who understand the importance of this game to the fans, and I don’t think someone like Anderson gets that, which is why I think that he may not start today.

We’ll see in a few hours just what it is. I am getting pumped up for this game. I know the result will not mean anything since this is City’s first real big test of the season, and they have a lot of tougher games to get to as well. However, any kind of positive result for them and they will be screaming from the rooftops of Manchester. The mere thought of that is making me sick to the stomach. As Cedars has said, Sir Alex will make a simple statement: Lose this and you’re as good as dead. I hope the players take that message to their hearts.

  16. redrider says:

Haha… have a good one yet again Cedars. Myself and Redmanwalking hitting a spot to catch the game later on. No $hitty fans and poznan pricks( :-D James!) here yet sensibly so I needn’t fear about violence… I hope.

Buzzing… lost my appetite… might need some of the good stuff to ease myself.

    Let’s Fucking do them!!

    Balaji

Hello my friend….. Great post and I am sure the boss will have the players fired up for this one…

Like you said, I also hope that Danny starts, he will know more than most what the game means to the reds of Manchester…. Well, there is only one color in Manchester anyway!

  19. james21 says:

@ cedars. It was all i could think up when a bitter called me a rag. I liked it and will use it always. :) Almost at OT 1st beer is calling. Enjoy the game and lets get the points.

  20. CedarsDevil says:

We should send out the right message today and beat the scum bastards, Posnan pricks, deluded fucking bitters…….

Attack, attack, attack None of that 4 5 1 defensive crap

  21. Costas says:

    @Redrider

You can never tell with Fergie, but I can’t see TC starting. We don’t know if he’s even ready. He should be since it’s 6 weeks from his injury, but.. We can win without him. We just have to keep a balance between attack and defence and keep our 3 lines close.

  22. redrider says:

Geez Balaji… you’ve not put me at ease! Bring up the good stuff!

  23. CedarsDevil says:

james21 – Have a blast and sing your heart out…. Enjoy them Budweisers in plastic bottles!

  24. Sandeep1878 says:

    Great post Balaji, awesome.

    btw,

i have come across a funny status update in FB on Derby game that read,

    MANCHESTER UNITED vs $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    very funny that…

  25. redrider says:

    Costas
hmmm… so have I felt. Fucking kevin davies hope he rots in hell. I had my eye on this game right from the very beginning to see Tom and Danny rip them a new one. Bah!

  26. CedarsDevil says:

3 hours to go…. Cannot wait, ‘football, bloody hell’ Sir Alex

Will not be here during the game for all the obvious reasons!

  27. Balaji Sivaraman says:

    Cheers lads!

I know this is one of those games. IMO, their defense is second-rate and can be easily exploited given the attacking talent we have. If, as expected, Nani, Young, and Rooney start supported by a solid MF-3 or with Danny, then City might as well be shitting their pants since they can expect a motherfucking onslaught right from the start.

On the defensive side, if Rio and Vida start, I will be more calm during the match since you won’t expect naive/inexperienced mistakes from them that you would from Evans/Jones/Chris for all their talents. That is the reason why I think our seniors should start since Aguero is most definitely a threat that our youngsters might not have been used to. Irrespective of whether we go with a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1, I want to see Carrick starting to provide cover especially given his superlative performance in mid-week.

Anyways, as I said, this is just one of those games. I fully want our crowd to be fired up for this one and will be disappointed if we don’t rip the roofs apart with our decibel levels. That will make a difference since the atmosphere will be new to some of City’s recent signings. I hope the OT faithful act as the 12th man today.

Come on United! Let us show these fuckers what Manchester United are all about!
