Jonny Evans has now scored three goals in his last seven games, a scoring record that matches Wayne Rooney, which has lead the manager to compare him to Steve Bruce.
“Jonny Evans is capable of doing that but it’s only this season that he’s emerged as a goalscoring centre-back,” he said. “We’ve had a few in the past – Vida and Steve Bruce way back. It’s nice to get a defender who can weigh in with a few goals.”
In the 1990-1991 season Bruce scored an impressive 19 goals in all competitions, with 13 of those in the league. He scored 51 goals for United in nine seasons for United, which is more than Teddy Sheringham and Louis Saha, and across his entire career scored an incredible 113 goals! Evans has now scored… 4. Keep going!

Yes, at least 10 this sason Johnny!
The way Jonny attacked that ball was something. Got a good boot in the mouth as well for his pleasure.
On 3 goals for the season is fantastic form. I just love goals from our CBs. It is a plus that makes the whole team realize that everyone of the lads has a role in attack…
Did you also see Rios response to Darren’s goal. Absolutely lit up for the lad.
Darren gets his first game in the EPL in a year and scores the stretty end. Dream stuff.
Great poster for United youth today. Evens brings us back, and Fletcher wins it!
The United way!
*** Evans brings us back ****
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early to start suggesting that this will become anything but a freak occurrence.
If he turns into the next Steve Bruce I will be pleased and stunned in equal measure.
Lets just remember the exceptionally poor quality of the teams he was playing before we make ridiculously premature statements.
Good goal and Good Grief !
Go jonny! Go Go Go!
Maybe he can take the pens like Bruce once did.
He’s probably better than Rooney?
WHOA WHOA WHOA SLOW DOWN. Jonny has obviously been on good run of form lately but to compare him with BRUCEY in the goalscoring departments at this stage is a bit premature. We trusted Brucey so much that he used to take our penalties. A CENTRE BACK doing that in a title winning united team is something. Plus if we were down 1-0 in the dying minutes of a game and we had a corner or a set piece you just had that feeling of inevitability that if the ball got into the box, brucey was going to be on the end of it. LEGEND in every sense of the word.
My Arse! The quicker we get Jones, Smalling & Vida back into the team, the quicker we can get rid of this donkey! For every goal he scores, he’s culpable for conceding 4!
He looks determined to forge out his career at United.
There has been two periods in his career at United where he has looked out of his depth but he has battled back and improved each time.
He is close to being the first name on the team sheet at the moment.
He had a good game vs QPR showed excellent pace at times, bravery to score but his distribution was a little wayward which is unusual because its usually top class.
Evans has been doing well, but man Bruce’s stats are absolutely incredible.
Way up in Manchester near the Irish Sea
Way back up in the hills among the evergreens
There was a football club from heaven
Where played a centre back named Johnny Evans
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could take out Drogba just like he’s ringing a bell
Go go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Johnny Evans

That is what happens when you get run of games to play. Evan has benefited from playingh regularly. He along with rafael have improved leaps and bound. Hope smalling and jones also become top class in 2 season time. We have quality defenders who could become top class if given chance.
I can see rthe comparison when it comes to technique. I bet Evans is a pretty good penalty taker.
Teddy and saha didnt get 9 years scott, also john o’shea was tipped to get 10 a season early in his career and that never happend
give him time to mature as well, he is heading for 25. If we can keep him fit etc etc he can be a great – nothing wrong with another NI legend !!
The lad has really improved over the past two seasons…more like the young star that come back from that Sunderland loan move. I remember that game against Chelsea when he had Drogba in his Pockets.
Needs to iron out his mid game brain farts and he’ll be United quality. Think he’d be in trouble if Shawcross rumors gained any ground
