Lazy Journalism In The Independent Supports Liverpool Lie

Carl Markham has written an article for The Independent in response to Luis Suarez being found guilty of making racist remarks to Patrice Evra.

The FA report: “The two witnesses who say they heard those words directed by Mr Bethell at Mr Evra are the Manchester United first team coach Mr Mike Phelan and the goalkeeping coach Mr Richard Hartis… Even if we disregard the fact that Mr Evra has never claimed to have heard such a remark on that day, it is notable that there were several other people far nearer to Mr Bethell at the critical point in time than were either Mr Phelan or Mr Hartis.”

Evra has never made public accusations of racism before. The sooner journalists stood up against Liverpool’s lies, the better.

Shoddy journalism from The Independent. Sort it out! Also, apologise to Evra!

  6. smartalex says:

    Lay off the Scots!

  7. Costas says:

This has been a dangerous lie that’s been making its way around ever since this story began. People would blatantly twist the truth just to let a racist off the hook…

  8. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Unlike alot of you I think this has gone on too far. I couldnt give a rats arse what Suarez said and Evra should be a little bit more thick skinned. Im not condoning racism and am not a racist myself however I do not like the forceful way in which society is made to be not racist. Surely the goal is to make everyone accepting of other peoples through choice, education and a general good will to all men rather than have what they can think governed by big brother. Secondly I do not like the way black people seem to take offence at the racism aimed at their ancestors. Its like me being upset by the Germans or upset by the spanish. Mr Evra may have recieved a bit of verbal abuse in his time, I have over here in sweden because of my non arian background (am white myself but obviously not scandanavian viking white blond white) but I wont cry or lose sleep. I just punch the swedish cunt on the fucking nose. Its about time people stopped being cryu babies and just remember that sticks and stones may break your bones, but names can never hurt you. Unless your a fag that is.

  9. philco says:

@ smartalex.lol I hope cedarsdevil. Isn’t l@@kin. No offence meant to the great and generous Scottish nation. Just that one particular scouse lovin toerag.

  10. REDseptember says:

Re. Costas statement, “let a racist of the hook” did Evra not say Suarez was not a racist, as did the FA? he was actually charged with misconduct….

  11. Red Dave says:

oooh goat in a united shirt, not the place to be debating the morality of modern society mate.

regardless were all upset at the accusations of rascism, his admission was probably sufficient evidence to ban him but my loyalty lies to evra. Suarez deserves his ban, if were throwing around lazy past offences (made up in evras case) then surely suatrz has marks against his character through biting an opponent and his gleeful celebrations during the world cup after putting ghana out.
He likes to hurt and offend opponents, this time however he has gone too far. Kick Rascism out of the game

  12. Julian says:

I follow a lot of premier league blogs on interesting footie topics and those associated with man utd and Chelsea are the most ignorant and disgusting interpretation of the truth. Your article towards lazy journalism by the Independant may be correct. But take a look at the responses to your point. Forget the rivalry between the two clubs and judge the matter on facts. To compare Dalglish to the KKK is as racist a statement as the comments of Suarez. So in the same breath as your support for Evra you show your ignorance of racism with your comments. Kick racism out don’t just add to it to get one over on your bitter rivals.

  13. philco says:

Fuck it heading to bed, like you all care. Nevertheless, fuck the hater saurez. The likes of him make this planet harder to defend.
    Red til I die.

  14. Costas says:

    @REDseptember

Yeah, but conduct becoming of a racist is what he was charged with:

“Mr. Suarez used insulting words towards Mr. Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3 (1 ),” the commission said. “The insulting words used by Mr. Suarez included a reference to Mr. Evra’s color within the meaning of Rule E3 (2 ). Mr. Suarez shall be warned as to his future conduct, be suspended for eight matches covering all first team competitive matches and fined the sum of 40,000 pounds.”

Fair enough. He’s not a racist. Just someone with racist tendencies…

  15. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    Red Dave
    Your probably right mate.
As far as Im concerned I try and live by the rules that govern us OR should I say I accept my punishment should those rules be broken by me or others. There is a rule that racism isnt allowed and no matter how Suarez gloss’ over what he said by saying that the words used are acceptable in his home land and the words used were in the magnitude of the endeering street term “niggah”. The rules are the rules. Theyre are known at the start and when he signed his contract to play in England that racism and its terms are not acceptable so himself and that chicken in a basket football club he plays for comes to terms with the ban and appologise. But then again with the fucking scousers its always the bloody polices or someone elses fault. Murderin (and now racist) cunts.

  16. philco says:

Saurez, scouse. What the difference. It’s never them . Perfect match.120 million and still 6th. Fuckin muppets

  17. FletchTHEMAN says:

I have actually emailed Carl Markham and other journos about this and they continue to spout this crap. Think it beyond lazy. Really down to journalistic-tribalism (“ideological bias” that have led reporters to uncritically accept the proclamations of the people they depend on for their livelyhood). I have all but given up hope that sports journalism exists anymore in UK football. Most sports writers are part of media outlets that are heavily financed by incestuous relationships with local teams. At the national level, many pundits are former players who wear their allegiances on their sleeves. Gary Neville a refreshing effort to buck this trend.

I can’t tell if you are joking or not but either way you are talking bollocks mate.

“Evra should be a little bit more thick skinned”
bullshit mate. he shouldn’t have to put up with it.

” I do not like the way black people seem to take offence at the racism aimed at their ancestors. Its like me being upset by the Germans or upset by the spanish.”
It is nothing like that. For a very long time the predominant view held by white european colonialists was that black people weren’t even fully human. there is a whole issue here that I think you might need to read up on before going off on one.

sorry to sound like a self-righteous prick, but racism is a real problem that needs to be dealt with in a serious way. it is not just a laugh. it is not just a bit of stick. it is nothing like giving someone the same race as you a bit of stick over the colour of their hair.

“the goal is to make everyone accepting of other peoples through choice, education and a general good will to all men rather than have what they can think governed by big brother.”
when someone steps over the line and begins to abuse another person, it is time to act. again, evra shouldn’t have to put up with it.

look mate, I don’t know you but I have read a good few of your posts on here in the past and you are actually a pretty funny guy at times, especially when you go off on a rant about something,
but you should know better than to ‘vent your spleen’ as they say, about a topic that people have lost their lives over, which wars were fought over and which you seemingly know next to nothing about.

  19. GHANA 2010 says:

  20. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Dont be a twat mate. Do you really think the Germans or Spanish didnt hate us and think of us as unhuman in their eyes. How else would they have justified their fellow country men to attack us. Just like during the war we portrayed the Hun as fucking imbreeds and genetic fuckdozzers as the Germans did in turn the jews etc etc.
Yes racism has to be dealt with but on an eductaion level NOT solely by punishment. Only the very worst cases should be punished and talked about. In this case the punishment was just. The punishment was warranted as Suarez broke the rules. But be under no illusion that this goes in any way in reducing racism, if anything its got the hard noses back up yet again and cemented racism in place for some more time to come.

  22. eddieTheRed says:

Typical modern journalist; never checks his facts; merely repeats whatever nonsense he reads on Reuters and the internet; what goes for the Suarez story goes for 9/11, 7/7, Iraq, Libya, etc.. Do your own research and think for yourselves; don’t allow others to do your thinking for you!

  23. philco says:

    Last post.
    Enough said.

  24. Fred says:

Scott – your buddy Danny Taylor said something similar in the Guardian:

“It is our strong belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suárez did not commit any racist act. It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible – certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.”

That was a reference to Evra’s disciplinary case in 2008 when he was banned for four matches and fined £15,000 after an altercation with a Chelsea groundsman. The FA hearing at the time ruled his evidence was “exaggerated and unreliable” and Liverpool made a great point of focusing on this during the Suárez case.

  25. Giles Oakley says:

Poor show Goat, poor show. Ill-thought out comments and rambling endorsement of racist behaviour. No-one cares what people think, it’s how they act and behave that counts. The fact is, Suarez has been found guilty of breaches of the rules governing professional football and should accept his punishment. There is absolutely no reason why Patrice Evra, or anyone else, should put up with abuse couched in racial terms. Evra is right, abuse like that probably doesn’t make Suarez a racist, but he’s clearly not above indulging in racist language. It’s by making people’s behaviour and actions unacceptable that makes for a better balanced society and drives out discrimination, which over the years has been rampant in football – see how few black coaches and managers there are, even after all these years of top players being black. Goat or anyone else can carry on thinking whatever they like about black people, or Swedes (what is it about Sweden that brings out these repellent views?) in private, they just can’t abuse people in public or discriminate against them simply because of the colour of their skins. It’s about common decency and humanity.

Good to see Kick it Out suppoprting the FA’s action in strong terms.

  26. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    Invade the moon with keane
Sorry mate you also state that I shouldnt vent my spleen, I presume thats because you think Im bothered about the abuse I could recieve. I dont care about that and believe that real meaningful dialogue can only be achieved if the boundaries for such dialogue are erased and every thought can be aired no matter how repugnant. Censorship is ignorance. Im thick skinned and couldnt give a rats arse what people think of me, I dont believe anyone needs top fill their lifes with the knowledge of me being a good by so they get through the day and I really hope you dont feel I need to gain anyones approval to look at myself in the mirror in the morning.
I believe in uncensored chat and only by getting the pulse pumping can you really get to know the other person and what they think rather than the society cleansed retard that acts his way through life in a desperate effort to not offend. Your discussions with friends about such topics are no doubt pretty mundane everyone in complete liberal agreeance and politically correct and no solutions or ideas are ever put forward. My discussions are alive, bright, emotionally charged that leave the other chatee with cronic heart hurt and sometimes claret stained t-shirt and myself the same. But all it is is a chat, no need to take it personally.
No candy arse moral faggotry here.

look, I won’t start on this one because we will be here all night.
the main point is evra simply should not have to put up with racial abuse from luis suarez or anyone else. neither should you, I or Ian fucking Holloway for fucks sake.

Im with you 100%, Evra shouldnt have to put up with it, your bang on BUT dont you think the stress caused to Evra is far greater with all the furore that is inevitably to follow is worth the crusade to punish a stupid uneducated individual.
I like to think of it in terms of how people react to racism rather than what is said. Think of all the countries England/Britain has pissed off. We must have many a name aimed in our direction. I have never once taken offence by names such as Limey, Gringo or anything else in a tongue I do not understand and hence racism doesnt effect me. If all the black people decided on cue to not take offence to racist jibes towards them then would we be having this discussion. The power is not the word itself BUT how the recipient takes offence of that word. Your right Evra doesnt have to take it but there are other ways to combat bigotry.

  31. WillieRedNut says:

Of course the media will take the scousers side! The fucking media darlings, after all. Most of the jurnos suck KK’s cock anyway. While in the process, put our manager down and our club down. Fuck the media biased cunts. 19 sticks in their craw. And the vermin, for that matter.

  32. brisbanefan says:

Evra should put this gross lie to bed once and for all.

Start by taking legal action against LFC, and if necessary follow it up against the media.

BTW, lets also dismiss the nonsense that Suarez was found guilty although no-one heard him make any racist comments. Suarez himself admitted making an insulting remark to Evra, which was later to be interpreted as being racist.

  33. Invade the moon with keane says:

    @goat.
just read that second comment about why not to vent your spleen. the reason I say that is because it makes you look like, to use your own term, a fuckdozzer. But maybe you really aren’t worried about looking like a twat as long as your discussions are “alive, bright, emotionally charged”.
if you don’t know what you are talking about, stop talking.
and lively debate is no excuse for saying that evra should simply have thick skin. Ridiculous.
think about what you are saying mate. Before you hit ‘Submit my comment’ think about what you are about to post.

I’ll repeat. Evra should not have to put up with it, no-one should

  34. Invade the moon with keane says:

    @goat
“dont you think the stress caused to Evra is far greater with all the furore that is inevitably to follow is worth the crusade to punish a stupid uneducated individual.”

I think that is up to him to decide.

if he wants the authorities to act, which they have done, I support him.

  35. smartalex says:

I’ll repeat it too. Evra should not have to put up with racial abuse, no-one should.

  36. smartalex says:

The fact that “the stress caused to Evra is far greater with all the furore that is inevitably to follow” is what makes Evra’s actions so commendable. Despite the rain of abuse that was bound to follow, he responsibly and calmly advanced the Kick-Racism-out-of-Football-Campaign ten years, instead of taking the easy way out.

    Respect Patrice Evra.

  37. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    Invade the moon with keane
I support Evra too and can only put my view across in the way I would have reacted with the knowledge I have at my dispossal. Maybe if I was black I would see things from a different angle but then again Im honest and admit to my failings in this matter. You can by all means insult my opinion and attack my comments if you wish, it doesnt effect me either way but the art in having a discussion is not just shooting down the one your talking too but put up a counter argument, something I do ALL the time.
For your piece of mind, I dont mind looking like a fuckdozzer in your eyes as we shall never meet and given the chance Id probably just have a wank and watch some midget porn on the net. I belong to a different class of people to the general populus and am happy that way and certainly dont curb my thoughts and opinions to appease others tastes. Live and let live is my moto, unless they’re Turkish, in witch case, kill the bastards. (joke – Brian Blessed as King Richard IV in Black Adder. Myself Im completely indifferent about the Turks).

  38. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    smartalex
As I said before, I stand by Evra, he makes the decissions for his life and I support the FA in its punishment and dealing with the issue. All I said was I would have dealt with it different but then again I deal with everything differently.

  39. Invade the moon with keane says:

    midget porn? Brian Blessed?
just a nutter then. fair enough.

  40. WillieRedNut says:

I’m the nut! The goats, a dog chasing paper in the wind.

  41. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    WillieRedNut
A completely biggoted statement mate. Goats too chase paper in the wind, not just dogs. Im hurt by your generalisation.

  42. Invade the moon with keane says:

:L maybe you are a nut after all. where else could you write: “The goat is a dog” and have people know exactly what you are talking about. very apt description actually

  43. smartalex says:

    GoatinaUnitedShirt

I am not surprised to hear that you would do almost anything differently! Also, it is interesting and relevant to hear how different people would handle a given situation under discussion. I expect that the vast majority of people would not have had Evra’s determined response. Some for reasons similar to you, many for their own reasons.

However, you are not accurate to say “All I said was I would have dealt with it differently”

Actually, you said “Evra should be a little bit more thick skinned” which is quite different, and portrays dismay at the victim of a racist attack. This wittingly or otherwise endorses the racist and his actions. In your case you have now made it clear here that you do not condone racism, but that clarification was made necessary by the perceived tone of your initial post.

  44. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    smartalex
Nice to recieve a balanced reply rather than a rant and attack to my posts which I usually recieve. I am a good natured and fun loving person and maybe not gifted with my writing skills thus i generally write and read differently to others and miss what others may pick up. When I read posts my default setting is to assume the writer is a retard and alot of what they have to say is tongue in cheek and no offence or ill meant phrase is meant. More often than not people write nowadays with an endless stream of smileys or emoticons or whatever theyä’re fucking called but I refuse to go down that degenerate path. I write and then assume the readewr has the same great temperament as I do. Call me a wanker and I assume youre being jovial. I just wish others could be as nice and light hearted as I am.
Again appologise to all that were offended by my post or thought in any way I was being unkind or inflamatory. You may be rest assured the appology is sincere and you can all take that appology and ram it up your self righteous pompous arses and find your anal G-spots so as to lighten your turgid mood and bring a smile to your faces as you wont let anyone else do it for you.

@GoatinaUnitedShirt you speak the truth. Finally someone with intelligence and a balanced approach to this topic has hit the nail on the head. Who gives a fuck about this anymore. We’ve got more important issues to deal with as a club. In fairness Evra has needed to man up for a while now.

Oh your reading mate its just your too fucking thick to understand it. You want a simple discussion fuck off back to school mate. The conversation has moved on. Read the rest of the posts instead of reacting to one you havent read properly. You must be Cedars in disguise.

  50. smartalex says:

Nothing more needs to be said on that issue, it’s now covered GoatinaUnitedShirt!

With regard to the smiley’s, I’m amazed that people use them, they are so dominant, and yet not at all descriptive. So often I’ll read great sentence that really describes an event filled with emotion, that then has one big yellow emotion painted straight over it. Works of art, being whitewashed.

  51. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Excellent post Sir Giles. Look at USA up until the 1950s it was still legal to be racist in some parts and today see how many black coaches and managers there are NFL the hell with thr number see how succesful they are too. Contrast that with England forget the black managers theres hardly any coaches or No. 2s. Dont even get me started on the discrimination shown towards British Asians in the game none more so than Bobby Fucking Moore FC.

  52. samuel - united WE stand says:

People these days don’t live in the real world. So evra shouldn’t speak when some bastard uses racist language against him? what, he should cover everything like it has been going on for years?.

SUAREZ is a racist cunt just like most are out there who pretend and putting on an act to give the impression that they’re in for the course to fight against racism.

The world will always be full of simple minded ignorants, it’s in england and most countries, racism will never end and suarez is just a tip of iceberg compared to what goes on. Evra is a confident man and spoke about it but then i hear people saying evra is making a big deal outta it, what a load of cobblers.

We’re in 2011, nearly 2012 and we’re all back to square one and still debating about racism both on a football pitch and in society in general, the world is going backwards every damn day, it really is a sad state of affair.

8 Match ban or whatever ditched out won’t change the likes of suarez, poyet or any other racist twats, they all have no remorse or take time to think before speaking, they feel it’s the right thing because it’s allowed in their FUCKING country, i’m tired of all these crap honestly.

  53. tom c says:

  54. samuel - united WE stand says:

Goatina – is that the most obvious crap you can come up with?, i’m CEDARS in disguise? you really need to get some help, those pills are no good for you.

One thing is for sure, i don’t come on here to play all your idiotic games of who’s using others names, i’m here to debate football and football only which i’ve always done so you really have lost the plot.

So what if you think the matter is closed? it’s closed for YOU only, i noticed your daft bullshit and posted my opinion, you don’t like it then i don’t give a fuck.

  55. StatesideAussie says:

Costas … on the Berba thing, I don’t see it as a dilemma. It’s very simple. The club needs to decide if it values his services. We can’t have it both ways: “We want the insurance of having an experienced, top-flight striker available, but we don’t want to pay for an experienced, top-flight striker to sit on the bench.” So either use Berbatov more, or let him go and replace him with a reserve striker whose salary is more appropriate for someone who sits on the bench.

  56. Jrdonl says:

Next one must be terry..oh wait a minute he s england captain…licence to abuse anyone…and sleep with their buddies wives….ban him fa if u got guts

  57. YorYor says:

It doesn’t take a racist to racially abuse someone, just like it doesn’t take a serial molester/sex-deprived maniac to consciously sexually harass a woman.

  58. ironbrand says:

Goatinaunitedshirt…apparently, you’ve done talked yourself into trouble with your comments. Let’s see you try to white-wash it and change the meaning. You are doing brilliantly so far

  59. Paul Parker says:

One benefit of expecting FA from the FA is the possibility of being surprised. Really wouldn’t be surprised if Suarez had his charge reduced or even squashed, but if him AND his club are actually held to account for misconduct I’ll be delighted. Figured on here would be buzzing with the news, read loads of belting posts skimming through the last pages – esp from contributors who should post more often. Mind you, thought it was funny a LFC supporter called Paul popped up but I’ll try not to be overly cynical. Paul Walsh was a decent striker tbf.

Must say though – even though he’s had his constructive critics on here – Scott the Red’s coverage on this racism issue has been exceptional, and I mean that on a web-wide basis. Fuck knows how STR earns his keep, who he provides for, and how he gets his kicks, but his dedication to this topic speaks bloody volumes as far as im concerned. I’d like Reactions to go back to the way they were too, and I’ve said so, but making the effort to back Evra against an institutionalised smear campaign is real class from STR. Credit where its due/hats off.

  60. paul says:

Why r u all cryin for ?? Evra in his statement has said ” I don’t think suarez is racist” but all u bellends are carryin on asiff he called him a ” fuckin nigger” just goes to show what sort of club you are. Don’t forget to google “negrito chocolate bar” on images .. That’s how racist the word is u bellends

  62. Dave Malaysia says:

Fans are made of many different types of people.

Why we support a club is as varied as it can be.

This incident is another subject that will carry on for decades ,if not longer.

Many of us here will end up like Giles Oakley educating the younger ones about what really happened and how the pool fans and some ABU media started a smear process against one of our own.

Very few in here actually have blind faith in our players anymore, we are more realistic. We will have a go at a player if we feel he had wronged and support him if we feel he needs to be supported.

We are not perfect or special but there are enough of us to have that. Too many things have happened for us United supporters to just blindly accept our players are perfect.
We are a hard bunch to please.

Liverpool are the only club in English football who have the same guts and glory history as us,2 of the biggest clubs in England. chelski and shitty will never come close .

But the pool fans have a terrible record , 2 tragedic events, plus so many other shit behaiviour that makes them stand out among all the clubs and thier hooligans fans including United.

One example, attacking Alan Smith’s ambulance, another was throwing faeces from the top tier stands on United supporters in the lower stands.

Another, screaming Munich and bloody murder, doing thier usual standard destruction of Old Trafford property and when Gary Neville shows some sign, they start crying and lodge a police report.
NO less then the Chief Constable comes out and warns Gary and he ends up being punished.

They are upset with how thier club is doing , no doubt, and they hate us.

This incident will not go away with just logic reasoning. It will become a centerpiece of arguments and war between both sets of fans.

I bet they will always be smart fans on both sides that can understand and deal with this as it shud be dealt with but they will get drowned out by the noiser bunch .

Did u notice how the pool fans like paul from last night , went on and on trying to recount everything bad that they think Fergie did?

Like a regular here said , Fergie must really haunt thier dreams.

I understand standing by yr player but Kenny Daglish has gone too far with his comments.

I have lost my respect for him and wish Fergie will teach him a lesson.

  63. Costas says:

I bet Traul wrote Liverpool’s official statement. Same kind of ridiculous arguements…

    @Dave Malaysia

Good point about the Alan Smith incident. Disgusting scum.

    @Stateide Aussie

Completely agree mate. Like you said, we have to decide whether we value his services. The article just confirms what I was wondering about whether he can negotiate his own move once 2012 arrives. As much as I enjoy watching Berba play, under the current circumstances, extending his contract seems like the worse option for both parties.

The term true colors springs to mind.

Last time we exchanged some heated words I told you that I will choose to ignore your posts yet you felt the need to mention me in your post at 2:13. That came to my attention not by reading your post, (as I simply skip through them ) but through another poster who mentioned it

Is it just with me that you are obsessed with or are you an obsessed person by nature?

There is no need for you to answer that question as I will not read it

  67. Jeet says:

OK, we got a Rant of the Day from – who else but bobbycharlie1968!! It’s the last post on the previous thread, so taking the liberty of doing a copy-paste here. Absolute belter.

    bobbycharlie1968 says:
“All you scouse shitheads are talking about Suarez as if he’s just arrived from Uruguay. He’s been in Holland since 2006 you fucking complete idiots, if he doesn’t know what is and isn’t racist in Europe by now, he should be banned from football for being a thick cunt. You would have thought an issue like this would be pretty cut and dry, yet you scouse bastards are fed anything you’re given aren’t you. Blame the victim should be your fucking motto. You’ve blamed the dead before just to absolve your own fucking club, your club has blamed the dead supporters of another club because Liverpool fans couldn’t possibly have cause Heysel, you blame anyone but yourselves. Your club are a disgrace. If you want to sit around with your red blinkers on and delude yourselves about this, please by all means be my guest, but your club has a history of this. Which makes it all the more astonishing that your fans would say shite like YNWA96 followed immediately by “Munich Bastards”. Sorry, but if you talk about Munich you have no right to talk about Hillsborough, or pretend you care. You don’t care because life and death transcends football. If at any stage, by the way, I’m using language beyond your level, please don’t bother telling me as I enjoy thinking how much your heads must be hurting. How on earth can you still believe the shite that Dogleash feeds you? Let’s all stand behind Luis, because if we all do it’ll make me look less of a prick for publicly supporting him, even though I’ve been told no to say anything on the matter by the FA, whilst conveniently changing my story and Luis’ story throughout. Did I mention? I’m Kenny fucking Dalglish, you don’t fucking say no to me. If you do I’ll call you a horrible wee cunt even though I was trying to sign you. Yeah that’s right you scouse morons, your dear Kenneth is pretty fucking fickle actually. By the way, what is it up to now? 120 million spent this summer, 6th place and going nowhere at the moment, and nearly 22 years without a title. Clearly you are the biggest club in the world…it’s a fact! After all you tried to sell TV rights abroad all on your wee lonesome didn’t you? How many fans around the world do you have? 70 million? Big number isn’t it. I imagine you were thinking of hefty sums being added to Kenneth the cunts transfer warchest. Too bad if we did the same thing we have 350 million fans worldwide. So imagine how small you would look! HA! And seeing as your defending Suarez for being a racist, let’s see you insult our foreign fans now! Without looking like a complete scouse hypocrite! Let’s see what all you high and mighty scousers have to say! If this statement your club came out with now was from an unofficial source, you probably wouldn’t have anything to say, but LFC itself comes out with it, It’s the fucking gospel! I never really used to respect your club or fans anyway, all I respected was your success, and funnily enough you can’t even return the favour. I reckon Liverpool cheated in every season they were champions, in some shape or form, but a champion is a champion…unless you’re a scouser and United are champions. So let’s sum up shall we? Your club put out a libelous and slanderous statement, bereft of fact and solid evidence (thought you lot loved facts?). Your club, having been told to keep quiet over the whole thing, which you conveniently ignored, now have egg on their face, yet they keep insisting they’re right and that the slanderous and libelous statement they put out is the gospel. Your club has a track record of blaming anyone but themselves for any sticky situations they’re in, like when they blamed dead Juventus fans who were crushed by your fans (classy, fucking class of the highest order). And there’s quite a lot more I could say, but I’ll just touch on it, Dalglish saying whoever is found guilty should get the maximum punishment and then defending Suarez, Suarez changing his story in a court of law, the list goes on. No doubt any scouse cunts, who haven’t stopped reading by now, will reply with 5 times you dirty Munich bastard, 18+5 blah blah blah. Well frankly, I’d rather have current success to go on about rather than live in the past. 1 of your European cups was won this side of 2000. This side of 1990 in fact. You’re not a European club anymore in any sense of the word. You haven’t been in Europe two seasons on the trot, and you don’t look capable this year. Not a blip, it’s a fact as your fat spanish waiter used to say. Nearly none of your players had nothing to do with your European Cups, and if they did, they only won 1. And going on about your 70s and 80s success is like saying you prefer Betamax to DVD’s or tapes to iPods. Why the fuck would you even bother? Maybe for once you can see what your club is all about. But for now, having scousebusted to my hearts content, I await your hilarious responses you dirty rats.

LFC fans are using the fact one of their own players has been outed as a racist as an opportunity to heap victim status upon themselves. The level of ‘support’ he’s receiving is disgusting. It’s like Michael Shields all over again. Racist? Murderer? Doesn’t matter – if you’re associated with LFC you’ll be assumed to be a victim and will receive support and sympathy.

  95. smartalex says:

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association statement (Patrice and Suarez are members):

“This was an independent commission experienced in law and football and they must have had compelling evidence, and it sends out a very strong message to the rest of the world. I understand the point about cultural differences but if you come to this country all players have to abide by not just the laws of the game but the laws of the land as well. Referring to someone’s skin colour has got to be offensive – it’s self-evident.”

“No one can say the FA have ducked this issue and bearing in mind outcry in this country over Sepp Blatter’s remarks it sends out an important message. This is a timely reminder that the FA, the PFA and the clubs to continue education programmes particularly for players coming from abroad that it is never right to make reference to a person’s skin colour or nationality.”

“This is a situation involving two of our biggest clubs and a very sensitive time and it reiterates the message we want to get out. We are a multicultural society and a cosmopolitan league and players must have equal respect for people regardless of their nationality or skin colour.

“You can understand Liverpool being upset as they are a top quality club with a top quality manager but perhaps it is a timely reminder that players new to this country need to be advised about what is unacceptable.”

I addressed GoatinaUnitedShirt, and simply showed him that saying “Evra should be a little bit more thick skinned” portrays dismay at the victim of a racist attack, and that this wittingly or otherwise endorses the racist and his actions.

He received my transmission, so my approach was effective.

As for the said poster, you just have to read the post written by Sir Giles who pretty much sums it up. He may have addressed you kindly but I sincerely hope you were not fooled

  101. Denise Williams says:

Goatinaunitedshirt I am sorry but I felt I had to reply to your comments regarding racism and the need for education. I was listening to an interesting discussion on precisely this matter last night on radio 5 live. Former Liverpool player John Scales made this excuse but was informed by PFA Chairman Gordon Taylor that players are being educated as to what is acceptable in this country and that all foriegn players are told what is acceptable language here. This was also verified by the person from the Kick it out campaign. This being the case if players do know what is considered right and wrong then please tell me what the FA are supposed to do with offenders? In my view Suarez fully deserved an eight match ban anf if Liverpool continue to bully the authorities then the ban should be increased. The facts are Liverpool do encourage racism. I heard a Liverpool fan of many years complaining that he would never go to watch thwe club again because of the racist abuse raining down from the fans. The fan went and told the Liverpool club stewards and was told if he didn’t like it he could F*** *** out of there and was generally threatened and abused. The fan then wrote to the club complaining about his treatment by the stewards and recieved a very insulting and abusive letter back from the Liverpool Chief Executive. It seems to me that no amount of education will ever completely eradicate racism from the game when we have clubs like Liverpool who encourage it. Personally I firmly believe lengthy bans are neccesary to get the message across that this sort of attitude and behaviour will not be condoned. After all why should anyone put up with vile abuse from those of a different colour simply based on the colour of their skin? As regards to the Independent Newspaper this is not the first disgusting and dishonest article by this appalling paper. Actually Evra has a right to sue them for libel and as this allegation was put about directly by Livepool then they should be sued too. Liverpool’s behaviour is a disgrace and certainly not becoming of any club in this country.

  102. smartalex says:

Lord Ouseley, chairman of Kick it Out, football’s equality and inclusion campaign, said it did not follow from the guilty verdict that Suarez was a racist but that the FA’s decision had to be arrived at on the basis of the comments made.

“All players playing in our jurisdiction know what standards are expected,” said Lord Ouseley.

“No-one is saying he’s a racist – he’s probably a very nice guy. He’s alleged to have made abusive comments and that’s the basis on which [the case] was considered.”

“I didn’t think it was going to go as well as this,” Jones told M.E.N. Sport.

“I hoped it would be as good as this but I thought I would have to spend a few times on the bench. I prepared myself to be frustrated, not because I expected to play every game but because I am young and want to play football. I said to myself before the start of the season that if I made 20-25 appearances – whether on the bench or starting – I would be reasonably happy. And I have done that already.”

Comparisons to United greats such as Bryan Robson and Roy Keane have been mentioned, but “It is nice to hear those comparisons. But I want to be me,” he said.

“There have been some terrific player’s names being bandied around that I am being compared to and that is great. I am just able, touch wood, to take it in my stride. That’s how I am. I am not embarrassed or pressurised by it. It is just great and I want to do as well as they did.

“I want to become the best I can be and be at my best for a good number of years. I don’t know when I will peak and be at my best but I am learning every day and as long as I keep doing that I am happy. I think my game has improved. My understanding of the game has improved. The technical side has improved. All round I have improved in leaps and bounds at United. I learn something every day in training here and I am just loving it.”

“Blackburn took a few games to get over that 7-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Here though we dusted ourselves down quickly. You cannot afford to feel sorry for yourselves. We got a 1-0 win at Everton following the derby and have had around seven clean sheets since.”

“They get over it here because of the experience they have in the squad. It is invaluable the experience here. They have been through it all time and time again. Every scenario they have seen and been through. They know how to respond and react. That is why we are champions, well I can’t say we because I haven’t won it, but that is why United are champions.”

  115. wayne says:

Now are you telling me Saurez by calling Evra a ‘little black person or Pygmy didn’t know he was insulting him, that is just nonsense.
@Cedars read some of Goats comments, think Evra punching Saurez in the face half way through a game wouldn’t have been a good idea.Evra grew up in a tough neighbourhood and i’m sure he’s thick skinned and has been abused all his life,i respect the fact he stuck to this and brought it out in the open.
Saurez was probably thinking it was no more than smack talk, just shows what a uneducated, ignorant piece of shit he is.

  117. smartalex says:

United have confirmed that the club will make no statement on the FA’s decision today, outside of the manager’s press conference after the game this evening.

  118. smartalex says:

The CPS will announce this afternoon whether they will charge John Terry for calling Anton Ferdinand a “black ****” during Chelsea’s game with QPR in November. Should they announce that Terry will face no charges, that doesn’t mean he is in the clear. There is still a separate FA investigation into the case, which was put on hold when the CPS opened their own investigation.

The FA have confirmed to The Telegraph today that they will forcefully investigate the charges against Terry even if the CPS don’t press charges. And there’s a crucial difference here too. A successful CPS prosecution would have to establish Terry’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt (as with all criminal cases). The FA investigation rests only on the balance of probabilities (as in a civil case.)

  119. dela says:

What is all this rot about ‘lack of evidence’ and Evra being unreliable? Didn’t Suarez admit to calling Evra negrito himself?

Some of the posts the scousers have been making today on forums have been downright despicable. It’s one thing to support your team, but when you have a racist abortion of a human being playing for your club, you should be able to call a spade a spade.

Oh well, it’s my fault, I suppose. I should have seen it coming. It’s Liverpool, after all.

The Telegraph have been in contact with Merseyside Police today. They have confirmed that they have no plans to open a criminal investigation into the Suarez-Evra incident. They’ve also confirmed that they’ve received no complaints from the public.

Complaints should be lodged. Any takers?

  125. smartalex says:

If Suarez’ excuse is that he was behaving like a typical South American, he can hardly be surprised that he was recognised as one. His defense obviates that claim.

  130. Denise Williams says:

I have to say Dela and Cyril it never ceases to amaze me as to the depths Liverpool or their fans can plumb to. The facts Suarez used a racist inflammatory term and therefore must accept the consequences. Of course we all realise that Liverpool will never ever accept that they are wrong about anything. Actually the FA used to have a man called Graham Kelly at their head a man commonly known as ‘It’s not my fault Kelly’. He hasn’t got onto the Liverpool board has he? That does seem to be Livepool’s answer to every allegation these days. As for Kenny the racist Dalglish don’t even get me started on this vile odious little man.

and of course; Fulham v Manchester United (20:00)

  132. Costas says:

The FA’s verdict is pretty obvious isn’t it? Suarez may not be a racist, but he used an expression that has racist meaning in this continent, knowing full well that it would get under Evra’s skin. He didn’t leave Uruguay a year ago. He’s been in Europe for years. So he knew that he was insulting someone else’s colour. So all this negrito stuff is nonsense. Even the scousers can’t be that stupid. But then again…

Harry Redknapp has just been on Sky Sports News. “There’s no place for racism in football or in life. I’ve got no time for it,” he said before claiming that he didn’t feel that racism exists in the game.

Harry is an egocentric weirdo, to put it mildly.

Gustavo Poyet: “The ban is incredible, shocking, it’s disproportionate. I back Luis to death. Things have happened before with Evra. He is not a saint. He is a controversial player. I don’t know in which world we are going to live in from now on people. People will accuse each other of anything.”

Uruguay’s national director of sports, Ernesto Irurueta, called the ban “exaggerated, absurd and out of place.”

Uruguay’s head coach Oscar Tabarez said: “He has out full support and solidarity because seen from a distance this seems like an excessive punishment.”

  136. kanchelskis says:

Fucking hell. Poyet is spouting off again. Apparently ‘Things have happened before with Evra. He is not a saint. He is a controversial player.’

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Fuck off you no-mark racist prick.

  137. WillieRedNut says:

smartalex – Same to you mate! Lets hope United hand out some capital punishment to Fulham!

  138. smartalex says:

“I can’t believe it. They’re making a big mistake. It’s obvious that in England there’s a racism problem they’re trying to eradicate, and that’s good, but this sentence has no solid arguments,” Uruguay captain Diego Lugano said. “Luis is a victim. I can’t understand how a player like Evra can do this. He’s breaking all the codes of football. We all know what kind of person Luis is and the values he has,”

Winger Alvaro Gonzalez said: “Maybe we end up paying for entering other, perhaps more closed cultures and which surely have discriminated against Evra at some moment for him to feel attacked in this situation.”

Luther Blissett: “When England were in Spain about five or six years ago, the black England players received abuse every time they went near the ball. That was the sort of treatment you got pretty much at every stadium you went to up and down the country, every Saturday and midweek. It was relentless. That’s what you had to go through while trying to concentrate and do your job.”

“Players of my generation have come through all of that to make a career and, thankfully, due to the work that the likes of Show Racism the Card and other charities have done, there’s a better level of understanding. But education is very much needed. That’s the reason we do what we do. The ones that can make a real difference will be the next generation of kids. If they can be more tolerant and understanding of people of different nationalities and ethnicities, the world will be a better place.”

“When we come across it, we need to stand up. If we can stand shoulder to shoulder and say this is not acceptable, we’ll get less and less of it. But if people keep quiet and suffer in silence, then we’ll never get rid of it.”

Well done Patrice Evra, I salute you Sir!

Quite so. That club statement was just disgusting. Justifying a racist slur simply because it was committed by one of their own. Liverpool never cease to amaze me.

  142. smartalex says:

    From manutd .com

Two years ago this week, an injury-ravaged side featuring Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher as makeshift defenders went down 3-0 in west London on an afternoon to forget.

Sir Alex will be taking a decidedly stronger squad to Craven Cottage this time, with the Reds’ current injury situation looking brighter.

  143. Costas says:

When scum like Poyet or Liverpool call Evra controversial, we should take it as a compliment…

  144. wayne says:

Think it’s becoming apparant Uruguay is full of fucking racists,i’m shocked at how much support the cunt is getting.
Gotta hit the rd have a good day Reds,we need a win and 3pts tonight, tricky game Fulham away always gives me the jitters

  145. Costas says:

Fletcher-Carrick-De Laet. The worst United defence in history.

Time to set things straight at the Cottage. Last time we won there, Hargreaves scored ffs.

  146. smartalex says:

Seen the pictures of a glum Hargreaves at the city fancy dress xmas party? Idiot!

Carrick said: “Fulham have had an up-and-down time this season, but they beat QPR 6-0 at their place and have had some other good results. We know they’re a strong team: they’re well organised and Craven Cottage is a tough place to visit, but it’s a good, old-fashioned football ground and we look forward to going there.”

  147. smartalex says:

Drive safe wayne! Will you be in the car during the game? There will be reaction here.

  148. smartalex says:

ex manutd .com, Sir Alex on Martin Jol:

“I knew Martin and actually spoke to him when Carlos Queiroz left the club. I spoke to him about joining us as assistant manager. Whilst I was talking with him, I had a phone-call from Carlos and realised he wasn’t happy at Real Madrid so I made moves to bring him back at the end of that season.”

“It was unfortunate for Martin but it never stopped his career progressing. He did very well as a coach in Holland and then came to Tottenham. I think he’s a terrific manager and his record is good. He’s had great experience gathered at Hamburg and Ajax.”

  149. kanchelskis says:

Tough titties tonight. Fulham always give us a game, and have some decent attacking players this year in Dembele, Ruiz, Dempsey.

Point to consider… if we take 3 points tonight, that’s 2 more than City managed on the same ground this season. That would be nice.

  150. smartalex says:

Alison Saunders, Chief Crown Prosecutor for London, said: “I have today advised the Metropolitan Police Service that John Terry should be prosecuted for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments allegedly made during a Premier League football match between Queen’s Park Rangers and Chelsea on 23 October 2011. The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors and after careful consideration of all the evidence I am satisfied there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute this case. Mr Terry will appear before West London Magistrates’ Court on 1 February 2012.”

    Fucking great news!

    Fuck off racist cunt Terry!

  152. StatesideAussie says:

Costas … (in continuation of our apparently very private discussion of football-related matters…) I guess it will also come down to whether Berbatov actually wants to leave. SAF has stated the club intend to invoke the extension, but realistically (as opposed to legalistically), the Berb’s willingness to stay must also have something to do with it. I think he should go. I love the guy to death and think he should be getting much more game time than he is, but that ain’t happening. And as I have said on here before, his age makes it increasingly unlikely (or decreasingly likely!!!) that he will get much time, or even that he should get much time. I don’t think he is “past it” by any stretch, but given the club’s obvious desire and drive to bring younger players through, and given that we do have some very promising younger strikers on our books, The Berb’s future is necessarily limited. His style will probably allow him to play at the top level for another few years, but for United, that does not represent a sound strategy.

Of course, if Berbatov and the club decide he should stay for another season — and even beyond that, on some sort of pay-per-play deal — then so be it. Maybe he could hang around as Ball Skills Coach :-)

  153. smartalex says:

    What a Christmas!

Racism being kicked out of football, and taking some right cunts with it!

  154. Captain Park says:

Using ‘Lazy Journalism’ to describe the Independent is being kind and gracious to them. This is DIABOLICAL AND ABYSMALLY POOR JOURNALISM bye the Independent!!! They call themselves the ‘Independent’ but in truth, they’ve shown themselves to bo blatantly in favour of the bitter bin dippers.

  155. WillieRedNut says:

There’s Berbatov discussion trying to break out! Good luck Costas and StatesideAussie! :)

  156. Costas says:

It’s ok willie. I prefer this discussion to be held between few people. The chances of a Berba hater barging in are less likely. :P

    @Stateside

The possibilty of Kiko going back out on loan in January really has me wondering what’s planned for Berbatov. If we extend his contract, I can’t imagine us selling him in the summer. I mean, for a club of United status that would be petty. So he will stay on for 2012-2013? That’s hard to imagine given his current predicament. So I feel that something will go down over the next 6 months. Has the club has decided that we will allow him to leave as a free agent in the summer? That would be a noble gesture, but I can’t imagine that one either. I wouldn’t rule out Berba moving on in January. Seems like the best solution for everyone involved at the moment. What could complicate things on that front is Berbatov feeling that he can negotiate a better deal for himself next summer. The situation will get awfully messy then.

  157. Captain Park says:

I’m perfectly satisfied that the FA have, in this instance, conducted a thorough and fair trial and found Suarez guilty of the charge against him. This is a very, very complex and difficulty case and the FA would be stupid not to have been 100% careful in the discharge of its duty.

  158. StatesideAussie says:

Costas … I also can’t imagine the club invoking the extension, only to sell him in summer. That would indeed be petty. But why would it be “noble” to let him go on a free next summer? From a business and legal perspective, his transfer value is zero as soon as the January window closes. Us fans, who are mostly simple folk, like to think we should “get something back” for the fee that we paid, but the business world doesn’t work that way. When we bought him, his registration was worth £30 million. Next summer, after four years, it will be valued at £0 (because legally, that’s all we can demand at the end of any contract). In between the two, the value is written down proportionally at £7.5 million per year (so now, at the half-way point in the fourth and final year, it is valued at £3.75 million). On the business side, that’s how it works. On the football side, the only question that matters is whether we got value from him in the meantime. I say we did. I know plenty on here would disagree with that, but we would not have won the PL last year without him. We would not have won #19 without him. And without him, that arch cunt Tevez The Troll (and his whore-master employers) would have reveled in the Golden Boot all for themselves, and that too would have been unbearable. Whatever people on here think, no one can seriously question Berbatov’s attitude and commitment and desire. If the club no longer wants him — that’s fine, I’ll support the club and SAF all day, every day. But if that allows Berbatov to console himself up with a nice earner for his retirement, good luck to him. He owes us nothing.

  159. StatesideAussie says:

Willie … yeah, how dare we discuss football, eh? hahaha!

  160. Park Life says:

Giles Oakley disagrees and that GOAT tucks it’s little racist tail between it’s little racist legs!

What a sneaky little cunt! Be a total dick until someone of some ‘standing’ on this forum disagrees then humanity’s somehow fed into your veins!?!?

Goat you are more of a pussy than I thought! it doesn’t surprise me as you want to grab attention or be ‘that’ guy. But you are not the same Goaatinashirt that used to post here 3/4 years ago and have proper debate/banter with the regulars. You are now just a Try-hard Cunt! Worst of them all!

@ Tom – I doubt you’d be fully supportive of this merchant if you had witnessed his tirade about ‘putting all blacks into the ships their ancestors came in…’ a couple of months ago

  161. Paul Parker says:

That PaulLFC is an odd one. DanielLFC had some odd comments to make on the other pages as well. I’ve a few questions for “him” if he’s still about.

    - You’ve mentioned Evra’s alleged unreliability (yawn) – So if the victim of a mugging reports that he was struck ten times, but the attacker admits to only striking him once, do you think the attacker should be freed because his confession doesn’t match the witness testimony???

    - You’ve mentioned Suarez being singled by the FA (ynwa?) – But if most participants of a particular crime are never brought to justice does that mean its an injustice when one particular offender is actually punished???

    - You reckon Evra said to the ref “your only booking me because im black”, and said to Suarez “don’t touch me you South American” – you also reckon the FA lacks the evidence to charge Suarez, so where pray-tell is your evidence Evra said these words???

You DO make a good point about FA hypocrisy, and the fact 2012 is round the corner is highly relevant. But just because people can and do get away with murder that doesn’t mean those who CONFESS to murder should be spared prison does it? Suarez has admitted to misconduct, end of story. Maybe he was ill advised by LFC’s joke of a legal department? Maybe he knew damn well the FA might find him saying “Negro” at least once on camera and wanted to mitigate the process? Who knows who fucking cares? He’s confessed to using a term that is unacceptable in England and he’s been rightly punished for doing so. End of.

  162. WillieRedNut says:

Paul Parker – That Paul you speak of, is a bitter in disguise. He’s also a daft cunt. To engage him in any conversation, is like banging your nut against a wall! Daniel is a kid lost. Take no notice of either mate.

  163. Paul Parker says:

And for the record, I’d be just as repulsed and angered if it was Fulham FC defending a player who used racist language against a LFC player. Thats the truth. Yes, there exists a great rivalry (albeit less relevant) between Liverpool and Manchester United today, but unless we’re actually playing Liverpool, or unless they are about to play one of our TOP FOUR RIVALS ABOVE THEM, I honestly couldn’t care less about their club, manager, players or history. Hand on heart, my own opinions on this issue have fuck all to do with Liverpool’s dominance 2 decades ago, and apart from the only European final LFC have won this side of 1984 I think you’ll find most people in their 20′s couldn’t give two fucks about Liverpool’s 5 titles in Europe. Benfica have SEVEN such titles and have regularly competed in Europe for DECADES, so I know who I’ve always considered to be the “bigger club” long before I’d heard of Suarez or Evra. All you LFC supporters who think this is some anti-Anfield conspiracy need to stop being deluded – your history isn’t as unique or universally regarded as you think. Thats just being honest.

MORE TO THE POINT, until we get the *full findings* we’ll just keep speculating on the facts at hand, but at this early stage I will happily say this. If anybody really believes there is nothing offensive about the word Suarez admits saying to Evra, go down to Penny Lane today and address local Black Liverpudlians with ANY word that derives from the Transatlantic trade that built Liverpool from the swamp up. The word can begin with any bloody letter you want, but the reaction will be the same, and thats the fucking point. Suarez can’t even call a black LFC fan whose lived his whole life in Liverpool A NEGRO without repercussions, so why the fuck should Evra have to put up with it? Our left back comes across as a top bloke and the type of fella you’d want in your corner if your up against it, but that goes without saying unless your a racist cunt, doesn’t it?

  164. Paul Parker says:

@Willie – Good advice mate, just thought I’d acknowledge I saw it. What an odd cunt.

  165. King Eric says:

denton – Told you mate the media would take the vermin’s side in this.

Do your fucking job Carl you cunt and get your facts right. Could expect this in The Sun or Mirror but the fucking Independent. Lazy cunt.

  166. King Eric says:

RedSlevin – Ha. Quality at 12.23.

  167. Costas says:

    @Stateside Aussie

I look at it as a noble gesture from the standpoint that we would allow Berbatov to negotiate his own move to the club he wants instead of rushing in to sell him to the first Russian or French club that makes an offer next month. Not saying that this is the plan on our part, just speculating.

I definitely agree that we got our money’s worth with the transfer. Knowing how the 30 million price tag came to be and seeing what the player offered to the club in the last 3-4 years.

  168. barrymc says:

i’m a liverpool supporter and admit in advance i read this blog by scott (well done) cos i love the bitterness rivalry and contempt but only cos i feel it’s because we have so much respect for each others history. good reading and lets keep the banter going
