League Cup Final 2009 Rematch – United vs Spurs In Quarter Final

Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties to win the League Cup last season, with Ben Foster proving to be the hero of the day.

The quarter-final draw has been made today and United will face last year’s finalists, although the tie of the draw has to be City against Arsenal, given the way Emmanuel Adebayor behaved last time the clubs met.

Blackburn v Chelsea

Manchester City v Arsenal

Manchester United v Tottenham

Portsmouth v Aston Villa

Home draw always a good thing. Chance for the kids to impress against a relativly strong team. The city vs arsenal game shouldn’t have much furore given that Adebayor is unlikely to play and its at Wastelands anyway. Can’t wait for the game.

  2. bchilds says:

Yea I’m happy with a home draw, tough game but always confident at home

  3. Macheda is GOD says:

  4. Tonka Norris says:

Doesn’t it look like heading for a Big 4 semi! Oh wait, where’s Liverpool? Shame!

  5. 20legend99 says:

Ooooooooo citeh v Aresnal. Another piece of silverware the bitters won’t be winning.

  6. aig alex is god says:

good draw.since we are at home i think we will progress.Spurs have a good squad and will field a strong team but i am still confident.Spurs are being given a real pasting by the gooners.and robbie keane is talking of top 4 finish.LOL

  7. Fze123 says:

Chelsea have the easiest draw, spurs will be tough to beat. Would’ve loved to have the bitters, so we’ll be the ones to knock them out.

  8. willierednut says:

I think our kids will beat spurs.

  9. invertedquestionmark says:

The most important thing was to get a home match, so I’m happy with the draw. And Chelsea and Arsenal get to travel, which is also good.

    Hi Scott and ROM readers.

Was wondering if I could draw your attention to the month of Mo’vember. Given SAF’s and United’s recent charge against cancer (http://therepublikofmancunia.com/fergie-united-we-can-kill-cancer/), I thought I would give you all the link for Mo’vember.

For those who don’t know, Mo’vember is the month formally known as November, where guys grow a moustache in order to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer. It’s a really good cause, links in well with United’s latest push, and gives a great reason to grow the moustache that we all secretly want to.

I just started my own Mo’vember team, and would be great if I could get as many United fans joining me in growing a Mo, or donating (even a little).

    Here is the link
    http://uk.movember.com/mospace/27455/

Scott, would be great if we could get a good ROM effort – with the influence of the blog, we might just see Rooney with a handlebar in time for the Everton game. If you could make a blog post about Mo’vember, that would be great, but understand if you can’t.

Cheers all, hope to see some people joining the team/donating or starting one up themselves.

  11. Kings says:

Shouldn’t that be 2009 Scott? On another topic, Ronaldo wants Rooney at Real Madrid – fuck off you tosser.

  12. Fze123 says:

Oh dear, torres scored for the dippers, 1-1. Praying for them to drop points.

  13. Red Army says:

oh my god I’m in a shock. Chelsea score ANOTHER penalty in added time.

  14. Mohit says:

This is getting fucking ridiculous . Carragher has just gotten away with another penalty decision. He rugby tackled zamora to the ground and the ref. Waved play on.

  15. DownunderManc says:

    Dippers down 2 1

  16. cantona192 says:

    Erik Nevland, one of us!!

  17. DownunderManc says:

Benayoun just replaced and chucks a hissy fit. All well with FSW’s team. Dippers degen just sent off – come on Fulham

  18. 20legend99 says:

Fucking hell the Scousers are collapsing! Fucking love it! FSW has gone mad, taking Torres off. He’s the only good player the Dippers have.

  19. DownunderManc says:

    Cunt Carragher sent off whhoooohooo

  20. Costas says:

Good to see that the win against us turned their season around. Oh wait. It didn’t.

  21. willierednut says:

vds oshea brown evans evra, valencia ando carrick nani, wazza berba.

  22. karandravs says:

    off topic :
did any one see carragher getting a red card !!!
nostalgic.. something that hsould have happened in our match vs the scousers!!

  23. Fze123 says:

I doubt the dippers will lose, it’s too good to be true really. Torres will probably dive and they’ll somehow get a penalty.

  24. Cantona's Right Boot says:

Hahahah this is what I call Karma, justice is served Carragher is sent off for the exactly same foul on Owen. hahahahaha.

  25. Fze123 says:

hmm though Rooney would be rested for chelsea game.

  26. cantona192 says:

    hahahahahaha, love it!!!!

  27. DownunderManc says:

    3 1 nevland again

  28. Costas says:

@Fze123: The FSW took him off while they were level!

@willierednut : Thanks. So none of the first choice defenders made it. I hope Brown and Evans are solid!

  29. Xyth says:

Last Sunday’s defeat is hurting even more. If Fulham can beat the dippers why we can’t. Are we getting a psychological block against them?

  30. Costas says:

    @Xyth :

Something like that. It’s the a momentum thing. There was a time when we would play crappy against them and out of nowhere we would steal it. Now it’s their turn. But what matters most is how we react to that. Nothing was lost last Sunday. Today’s game is more vital.

  31. Jack says:

    Van der sar
    Oshea Brown Evans Evra
    Valenica Carrick Anderson Nani
    Rooney Berbatov
    line up

  32. cantona192 says:

@ xyth, let them have there one or two moments of inane glory, we will see who has bragging rights at the seasons end!!! 19s a charm.

  33. ZD Casuals says:

Posted under the wrong name there… don’t know what got into me. Anyway, Fulham just scored again!

  34. willierednut says:

Wat was the odds them scumbags wud lose today after their cup final last wk. ps rafa must stay

  35. DownunderManc says:

FSW looks like the fuckwit that he is. Commentators are pulling the piss out of him -beautiful

  36. Jack says:

bench: kuszack, scholes, owen , flecth, fabio ,oberta, da laet…flecther???? thought he werent meant to be back till we play chelsea

  37. Kings says:

Good to see todays ref had the bottle to sent that cunt Carragher off.

  38. hurr says:

Haha, dippers title hopes blown to smithereens! Now, we just need Lyon to finish them off once and for all.

  39. Sketch says:

Im happy we got Tottenham if they play as badly as they did against Arsenal today then they will surely get trashed by our reserves.
    Anyway..
Ha, liverpool losing, 3-1! Keep it up Fulham.

  40. Tony Starks says:

Hey I like this line up and bench a lot.. can’t wait for this game, lets make up for last week.

    What a scoreline from Fulham!

  41. willierednut says:

No sweat costa, wes and jonny shud be alrite blackburn ave no strikers 3 0 to the champions.

  42. Manu says:

It really begs the question. how the bloody hell did we cock up against those abject scousers

  43. DownunderManc says:

3 1 2 reds great stuff 5 defeats Rafa in tears?

  44. cantona192 says:

itl be good to hav fletch back for chelsea game, he loves those games. might get a 10 minute warm up the day!

  45. Cantona's Right Boot says:

Have a feeling Owen will come as a sub and score!!!

Hope to see Owen, Obertan and Fletcher to come in at 2nd half.

  46. Costas says:

@willierednut : I hope so. And lets make it easy on ourselves for a change!

@Manu: It happens. In 2004, we were on a bad run yet we ended Arsenal’s 49 game unbeaten run. The following week, we lost 2-0 at Portsmouth. But we must not lose sight of things. This is their year!

  47. Fze123 says:

Wish I watched the match, had to rely on updates. This is their fifth loss so far this season. It is so their year!

  48. karandravs says:

i am elated !! just hope now we win against blackburn and make the day !!

  49. Corea says:

Rafa has a very important game to play in the CL away so again he made his move.

  50. Cantona's Right Boot says:

For once I hope today we will play a free flowing football that our fans have been longing for. It’s been more than a season since last we saw the best of United. Hope Liverpool defeat will make everyone confident enough to play United true brand of football. 4-0 pleaseeeeeeeeeeee

  51. Sketch says:

Liverpool will win fuck all. The Arse and Chelsea are our main rivals for this year. We need to win our next 2 games, and hope Arsenal somehow bottle it against Wolvershampton and Sunderland!
I want us to take full advantage of Blackburn’s injury crisis and just score as many as we can, but should also try to keep a clean sheet.
    COME ON UNITED!
Any news on the line up?

  52. Xyth says:

I will be extremely disappointed if we do not put 5 past Blackburn!!!!

  53. mdubya says:

does rafa do this sort of stuff on purpose? i really think he does. fields a shit team then gives them sort of a backs to the wall speech to get them up for their match of “real importance” i know that’s probably not really it but it sure does seem like it sometimes.

also i hope ando really shows up this game and asserts his place in the 11. a midfield with him and fletcher and even hargo would be damn near impossible to breakdown with their workrates and smarts. i’d gladly sacrifice carrick, and nani or valencia if it meant we could run those three out.

  54. Orez says:

Not sure how to react to Evans and Brown in center. I should be nervous, but I am calm. Hope they will not disappoint.

  55. DownunderManc says:

We need goals, Chelski are now +20 GD, Gooners are +19 with game in hand

  56. Corea says:

i can’t remember last time some won the title on GD

  57. Costas says:

@Corea: Hi. We never have and i don’t remember it ever happening in general. That being said, sometimes it’s a psychological advantage in the final weeks of the season. The GD is looked upon as an extra point. I think it’s time we start rectifying it.

  58. Fze123 says:

But we haven’t been scoring a lot of goals lately, especially against the weak teams (exluding wigan game).

  59. Fze123 says:

    and excluding* shitty game

  60. Corea says:

    @ Costas
Hi, buddy. Strange evening. These are the times when i want goals from our team but on the other hand i am so confident that we will easily win the game.
Anyway good luck to the players and a good win.

  61. DownunderManc says:

Goals brings confidence, something we are lacking.

  62. HARGREAVES' CURLY HAIR says:

haha guys i told you that last week that fulham will do the dippers. lets not forget this is their year. long live the rafalution! hope lyon do them next week.:-)

  63. aig alex is god says:

rio and vidic havent looked great of late but still if i dont see them in the first 11 i get worried especially against a team like blackburn who will play lots of long balls.Watch out for christopher Samba.he can really give our centrebacks a torrid time.and i doubt whether brown and evans are the perfect pairing to tackle a physical blackburn side.we didnt look too comfortable against Barnsley so i am not too sure about the centrebacks.i think we will win but cant see us keeping a clean sheet.

  64. Costas says:

    @Corea:

I hope you are right. Games against big Sam’s teams are always unpredictable. If Brown and Evans hold their own, then i am hopeful our midfield will dominate the game. A thrashing is long overdue…

  65. Red Army says:

    let’s fuckin murder ‘em.

Nothing less than a destroying will do.

  66. mdubya says:

i hope blackburn doesnt give us some leftovers of that swine flu they had/have

  67. Sam the kenyan red says:

    Go reds go!!!!

  68. Zalee says:

It seem Man Utd need to be like fulham when facing the arsenal, chelsea n liverpool.hehe.gud luck against blackburn n beware against chelsea. towards march we go

  69. TonyBee says:

Looks like they want to test our back four

  70. Xyth says:

It is not happening so far. Exactly the same performance as on last Sunday.
Someone needs to step up and pull the rest with him.

  71. Xyth says:

    Berbatov should have scored.

  72. aig alex is god says:

why he hell cant we greab a team by the scruff of their neck.we are doing nothing in the hird.final t

  73. Xyth says:

We need some passion in our game asap.

  74. DownunderManc says:

Another miserable performance. Nobody knows how to score anymore.

  75. DownunderManc says:

    We need a CAPTAIN.

  76. TonyBee says:

    Berba,s gonna get one today….

  77. aig alex is god says:

why cant blackburn players stand and tackle why the hell do they have to make silly sliding tackles.it can injure our players too

  78. TonyBee says:

Fucking Nani playacting …..dont fancy it do he….SAF get the little fucker off and bring Obertan on

  79. Xyth says:

The final ball has been dreadful so far.

  80. rooninho says:

    come on!!!!!!

  81. aig alex is god says:

great move.unfortunately wazza was off side

  82. DownunderManc says:

nani to slow to release – another opportunity missed

  83. TonyBee says:

nani and his thousand touche deny us a goal cos he passes to Rooney too late….fucking hell he’s a poser aint he

  84. aig alex is god says:

carrick has made some brilliant sliding tackles.we are increasing the pressure.

  85. Xyth says:

How mane chances we need to score?

  86. rooninho says:

fckn hell! should be 2-3 goals up.

  87. aig alex is god says:

rooney is getting better.berba should have scored atleast one by now.Samba has been brilliant for blackburn

  88. Xyth says:

    Now we need 10 hairdryers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  89. aig alex is god says:

as usual frustrating first half.reminds me of the dark days of 2004 and 2005 when we used to dominate games at home but ended up with nothing.same story here

  90. Jack says:

how good is carrick, his so underated, he keeps it so simple and makes it look easy, hardly see him lose the ball or nothing

  91. TonyBee says:

OK halftime…. Reds really on top …. bring on Owen for Nani and put Rooney out against Chmbmbwa or whatever his fucking name is…… later bring on Obertan for Valencia as he can use both feet and has a bit more skill…. reds to win 2-zip

  92. Costas says:

It’s not a bad performance. It’s just not happening at the final third.Again.What the fuck was Chimbonda thinking?Thug.

  93. alpha_rs says:

I remember Ronnie being just as frustrating as Nani at one point.
We have been spoilt withe wingers at United for a long time.
Give him time and he will develop.

  94. aig alex is god says:

also why the hell cant our players shoot from distance.hope blackburn tire and we can take advantage in the nd half

  95. Corea says:

OK first half. We’ll win it.
As long as we stay in touch with Chelsea i am happy enough to wait for us to find our way.

  96. Costas says:

@aig alex is god : You remember the 04-05 days hey?So do I.One of those 0-0s was against Blackburn at OT.I think Alpha_rs makes a good point.Ronaldo of that time was the Nani of today.

  97. TonyBee says:

alpha_rs ….Just how much time do you give him….ronnie was kicked all over but he still performed. Defenders have now learnt that if you kick Nani enough he will disappear in a game, Nani, in my opinion is just not good enough for MUFC, and he should be sold off soon as. we have wingers faster than him waiting in the wings with just as much skill and speed so I say get rid.

  98. aig alex is god says:

    alpha_rs

nani is nearly 23.at this age ronnie was doing really well.and nanis progress has gone downwards.at united you are expected to hit the ground running as early as possible and in years there should be some improvement.get obertan on

  99. Fze123 says:

Bloody hell, we’ve had about 7 shot overall. I am sure if Owen had started he would have slotted a few in easily. Berbatov should have scored, Rooney’s not seeing much of the ball. Carrick’s, ando, valencia and evans are playing well.

I’ll only be happy with at least a 4-0 win. Come on utd

  100. DownunderManc says:

Invariably we are playing teams that park the bus week in week out and we need players that can unlock the defence and create opportunities and confusion/panic in the opposition. Obertan looked terrific, OK against Barnsley, but he had them in two minds, Nani has our players in two minds which means there is no flow of attack.

Our team lacks confidence and we need inspirational performances to lift the team – Nani won’t deliver that now or ever.

We are also lacking a strong team leader at the moment. There is bickering going on out there. The team is leaderless (need a Keano) and we need a captain who will berate players on the park (when needed) to get them to lift their game. The strongest personality out there is Rooney but we don’t need our strikers to worry about anything other than scoring goals.
It might be a squad game now but there has to be strong leader on the pitch – where is he?

  101. TonyBee says:

what age was Ronnie in 04-05 Costasand what age is Nani now… Sorry Costas mate, he aint good enough.

  102. Tony Starks says:

OK people may criticise me for this but… Valencia is very one dimentional, he’s a bit useless on the counter attack, Nani is way way better in that regard even though he can be frustrating.

Having said that Blackburn have just parked the bus and I can’t see anything but a United win, especially if Owen comes on – these types of games are made for him where there is little room in the box, he is so quick to take shots etc..

  103. aig alex is god says:

    Costas

hi mate.how are you?.ya you are right but today there is lot more pressure on united to deliver trophies because of the way we have played in the last 3 seasons.

  104. TonyBee says:

all you Nani fans ….. when Obertan comes on, as he must, you just watch the game change…

  105. Costas says:

    @TonyBee:

Yes, AIG made the exact same point. Ronnie was 20 in that season and Nani is 22-23 right now.Sometimes i also wonder if he will ever make it.What can i say?I still hope.

  106. Sam the kenyan red says:

We can’t afford to struggle against blackburn for christ sake!!! We desperately need a leader someone who can step up at times like this…… come on berba i know you can!!!…

  107. aig alex is god says:

    Fze123

    4-0.ill be happy with a 1-0.

  108. Alpha_RS says:

@TonyBee and aig alex is god

Ronnie had a sustained run in the team for 6 years.
It was only in the last 3 years he became the real deal.
Nani has not had that opportunity to develop at United.
Ronnie would have never developed in to the player he is today had Beckham not been forced out by his mrs.

  109. TonyBee says:

    tony Starks ….Crack on M8

  110. Costas says:

    @AIG: I am good mate, thanks.You?

I hope that we will score soon in the second half.See you all at the final whistle.

  111. TonyBee says:

but why hasn’t Nani been given a sustained run….SAF doesn’t rate him as highly as others. he only plays in rotation games or Carling games with the young uns…..

  112. TonyBee says:

    any ways second half beckons

    COME ON YOU FUCKING REDS

  113. manufan32 says:

i personally feel that rafa wants to get fired….. we must concentrate on not letting that happen… common people start praying with me….. in rafa united trust!!!!! come back when u win 19…. oh wait… we might not be here that long!!!!!!!!

  114. aig alex is god says:

    @Alpha_RS

ok mate.thats the way you feel.but i feel his time out of united is coming soon.ronnie was 17 and nani was 20.i am not saying he should be ronaldo but even if there was some improvement i would have been quiet but he has shown no progress at all.ronaldo was greadually improving and just took off in 06-07.

  115. Alpha_RS says:

    @TonyBee

I believe that Nani has more competition around him now than Ronnie did then. Also United were playing with Rooney, Tevez, and Ronnie in a 4-3-3 for the last few seasons.
If we let Nani go he will develop in to a really good player and we will be kicking ourselves. United don’t just ship players out. We give players a chance.

  116. manufan32 says:

we must all pray that rafa isnt fired…. scott what say that all united fans start praying together for rafa? come back when u win 19… oh wait….. thats probably 2080!!!!!!

  117. aig alex is god says:

i am good costas.hope we can score soon in the 2nd half.0-0 is very dangerous scoreline even if you are dominating

  118. Alpha_RS says:

    @aig alex is god

Can’t deny that. If anything he has become worse.
Perhaps at the end of this season we can decide?!

  119. Xyth says:

The crowd is too quite as well…

  120. aig alex is god says:

anderson is looking great.trying his best to dictate play and pushing forward at every chance

  121. Che Guevarist says:

Costas, it sort of happened in 1989. Arsenal won the title not on goal difference, but on goals scored. (Same number of points and goal difference as liverpool).

  122. aig alex is god says:

    BERBA>WHAT A GOALLLLLLLL

  123. Fze123 says:

aig alex is god, I won’t be happy with a 1-0. We SHOULD put 4 goals past them, chelsea managed to win 5-0 against them and it should be the same case for us.

Also rooney’s dropping too deep there is no one in the box to recieve the final balls.

  124. manufan32 says:

    1-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 berba!!!!!!!!!!!

  125. Xyth says:

    FUCKING HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  126. TonyBee says:

    FUCKING GET IN

  127. Fze123 says:

    goalllllllllllllll berbaaaaaaaaaaaa

  128. aig alex is god says:

thats his quality.not as good as the sunderland one but this was class one too

  129. DownunderManc says:

    Great stuff by Berba

  130. TonyBee says:

    WHAT A FUCKING GOAL….. TOLD YOU…!!

  131. Fze123 says:

thank god I didn’t miss the replay beautiful goal that

  132. rooninho says:

    class!!!!!

  133. Sketch says:

    Wow. Simply Amazing

  134. Xyth says:

    Let’s crush them now.

  135. TonyBee says:

    ANDERSONNNNN ……..CUNNNNTTTT!!!!! LOL

  136. aig alex is god says:

    @Fze123

now that we are up if blackburn decide to go for it,we can thrash them.no doubt about that.nani and valencia have great pace and can trouble them on the break

  137. dv-ant says:

    anderson’s shot ….. LOL!!
least he can smile about it

  138. Xyth says:

I cannot relax until we’ve scored again.

  139. Alpha_RS says:

Look who provided the assist…. Nani!

  140. Berbatovs' love life says:

looks as if Obertan is getting ready for his debut

  141. dv-ant says:

    wtf was that from nani

  142. aig alex is god says:

    Alpha_RS

    i think it was evra

  143. aig alex is god says:

obertan coming on.lets see how he does.lots of hopes from him

  144. DownunderManc says:

Nani off – forever. SAF not impressed. Go Obertan

  145. alpha_rs says:

    @dv-ant

The United midfield hasn’t been contributing enough goals for ages.
Ronnie leaving has just shown that up even more.
Ando can smile but we need goals from that midfield!

  146. alpha_rs says:

Obertan runs that ball out. Bring Nani back on!

  147. Tony Starks says:

Valencia should have been taken off man! These are the situations where Nani exels, when there is lots of space to be found

  148. rooninho says:

pass it to wayne, obertan wtf!!!

  149. aig alex is god says:

great pace for obertan.just a bit unlucky.think we will get a second on the break.blackburn are trying to get people forward now

  150. alpha_rs says:

What was that from Obertan?! That shot was poor.

  151. Tony Starks says:

hehe more like bellion so far.. (joke)

  152. alpha_rs says:

    Obby – Silvestre’s brother!

  153. rooninho says:

bring on owen for berba already. wayne needs to stay on and get a goal for his confidence.

  154. alpha_rs says:

    Rooney taking corners – Confusing.

  155. aig alex is god says:

owen coming on.berba should come off.

  156. rooninho says:

obertan’s movement is really good. he’s fitting in quite naturally.

    come on mickey-o!!!!

  157. aig alex is god says:

what a sitter obertan has missed

  158. TonyBee says:

    oBERTAN ….WHAT A MISS

  159. alpha_rs says:

Don’t be talking about Obby to me. Nani would have buried that with style!

  160. Tony Starks says:

o my god! this is gona haunt him for a long time…

  161. karandravs says:

what a miss on debut !! god forbid …

  162. Tony Starks says:

by the way Anderson and Carrick have been brilliant

  163. karandravs says:

had nani missed it he would have been buried alive…

    @alpha_rs

i admit he should have scored but lets not slag him for that now.debut at old trafford will make anyone nervy.he will gain confidence gradually and will improve.lets judge him when he has played 8-10 games.admit though that should have been buried and nani would have scored

  165. aig alex is god says:

    ROONEYYYYYY

  166. TonyBee says:

    THE ROOOONN

  167. rooninho says:

    there it is!

    !viva pele blanco!

  168. Sketch says:

    WAZZAAA

  169. aig alex is god says:

that should do his confidence lot of good ahead of the chelsea game.

  170. alpha_rs says:

    @Karandravs

    Spot on there mate.

Ando with a brilliant ball in.

Obby let off the hook with that miss had Blackburn equalised!

  171. TonyBee says:

ALPH…. bet you have a Nani poster on your wall …lol
come on you gotta admit he has been shit this season

  172. rooninho says:

ando has done well to control the midfield and still get forward today. obertan should have had a goal and an assist, but you have to like what we’re seeing today.

come on united, job almost done!!

  173. aig alex is god says:

that was a lucky escape.that goal should have stood.but we deserve to win more comfortably so that levels it up

  174. TonyBee says:

wasnt blowing for an offside…was blowing for a foul

  175. Tony Starks says:

I just wish Anderson gets to play every game

  176. alpha_rs says:

    @aig alex is god

Would never slag any United player off pal.
Obby should be given his chance like everyone else.

And no way was that offside!

  177. Long John O'Shea says:

rooninho mate ive said it before and ill say it again… rooney is not the white pele!! pele is the back rooney!!!!

  178. Fze123 says:

Come on let’s get a third!

  179. Tony Starks says:

Can you imagine Ben Foster getting to those punches?…

  180. alpha_rs says:

    @TonyBee

Have no Nani poster. Just a United shirt with Rooney on the back.
Nani has been poor this season. But keep seeing glimpses of what he can do.
Which keeps making me rethink my stance on him.

  181. rooninho says:

    @sheasy

    fair enough!

  182. DownunderManc says:

    Even Owen misses a sitter

  183. TonyBee says:

    2 – zip …..Big Sam > fuck off

  184. DownunderManc says:

    Wazza and Ando our best

  185. alpha_rs says:

    @Long John O’Shea

That is hillarious. I’m gonna shout that one at OT next time I’m up there!

    How did Owen miss that?!

  186. Tony Starks says:

I like the Obertan kid a lot.. can imagine him being very good this time next year

  187. DownunderManc says:

We’ll have to improve a lot to trouble Chelski

  188. Corea says:

3 points. end of story. bring it on Chelsea.

  189. aig alex is god says:

all that i can say is JOB DONE.we played well to be fair and deserved to win by more in the end.not a bad day though with the bin dippers fucking it up again and that cunt carragher being sent off.chelsea will be an intesting game now with them being in great for.i feel its between arsenal us and chelsea and dippers spurs and shitty can fight for 4th place.

    SORRY!!MISTAKE

THIS IS LIVERPPOLS YEAR.HOW CAN I FORGET IT.

  190. Long John O'Shea says:

    :) …. beer time… a win is a win…..

  191. rooninho says:

job done! now a top of the table clash with chelsea… fletcher needs to get in against cska and get his match fitness and sharpness up to speed. can’t see us doing well against the chelsea midfield without fletch.

  192. karandravs says:

carrick finally had a performance where he was throwing in tackles .. Ando or Flet have to play alongside Carrick or Scholes.
Evra is a horse, fabulous game for him.
I still feel though we should have got 4-0 but a victory is appreciated nonetheless.

Just one point though, is it only me or anyone thinks that Valencia and Oshea partnership ain’t good enough. Valencia coz of his one-footedness needs someone to feed on, and Oshea is not creative enough to create those gaps for Valencia.

  193. mdubya says:

ando was pretty good except for the shooting. carrick did have some nice tackles but his passing was pretty dismal. isn’t that what he’s there for? i like him less every match.

obertan looks awkward out there but i think he might grow into something good. he seems like he’s trying to do the right thing and be in the right spots it just takes time. nani was unproductive especially with the amount of touches he got. valencia is one dimensional like someone else said but i do like that dimension, he makes the other team have to play towards him.

berba goal was class per usual. pat was great. the 2 cb’s didnt mangle it but didnt have anything to do. job done.

  194. Costas says:

Overall a good performance.Hopefully,Rooney’s goal will help ease the pressure.Obertan looked ok.I will chalk his miss down to nerves. Finally, have i said how much i missed VDS?

  195. Fze123 says:

Good performance today, 3 points in the bag, although we should have scored 3 more tbh.How did Obertan miss that sitter, bloody hell. Ando and carrick were fantastic, defence was solid for the majority of the match. Berbatov scored a brilliant goal too, and glad Rooney bagged one, it’ll boost his confidence. We’ll need these two at the top of their game against chelsea.

  196. Sketch says:

I think our back 4 have been solid, except for their wrongly disallowed goal.
Rooney and Berba were both awful in the first half but got their acts together and managed to score which is brilliant. Decent performance but it took us again way too long to kill of the game and score. Should of scored more but im happy with the score line anyway.
Man of the match for me was Anderson by far. He has been terrific, buzzing with energy the whole time and passed the ball around well without losing it.
The most disappointing player today was Nani. He kept losing possession and was just simply not good enough. It was obvious the rest were getting irritated by him. And i was truthfully glad that Fergie took him off and brought on Obertan who i thought was evidently better than Nani today. Obertan needs to work on his stamina though. for large chunks of the game i often found him moping around not marking anyone and waiting for the ball to come.
Owen again is getting into good positions. The goals will come eventually.
    Roll on those Rentboys.

  197. manchuchu says:

Obertan now looks like a newborn giraffe. He looks completely gangly with elbows and knees.

I have only said that before about one player years ago. First time I saw him he was just weird. But when he came into his own he was unstoppable.

Obby reminds me of that player.
Obby reminds me of Z Z.

    Zidane himself.

  198. Costas says:

Obby also looks like Luke Chadwick. He has to beef up a bit.

  199. reDalerT says:

great goal from rooney, amazing one from berbatov! i never imagined i’d be able to say ‘berbatov’ and ‘sliding celebration’ in one sentence!

anderson motm? quality passes all the way.

pity nani, getting knocked all over the field.. did you see that flying knee he got in the first half? and the blackburn player had the cheek to shove him right after! that guy should have got a red a long time ago.

  200. reDalerT says:

ahh found his name.. chimbonda.. what an arse

  201. aig alex is god says:

    costas

spot on.VDS is such a cool customer.really missed.think we would not have drawn against Sunderland at all had he been between the sticks.

The cunt steve mcmahon says obertan is not good enough and will not replae ronaldo.DREAM ON he says.

FUCK OFF YOU CUNT.ITS YOU BELOVED DIPPERS WHO ARE DREAMING ON

  202. Red Army says:

    Roll on those rentboys.

No thanks, playing like we have done ain’t gonna get us shit.

Thank fuck Fletch will be back.

Nani just do the honourable thing and walk your ass out the door. You’ll never be Ronaldo.

Berbatov scored yes, don’t mean he wasn’t shocking throughout.

  203. macha says:

midfield were very competitive today, good to see carrick getting stuck in. valencia seems a solid tackler too which is good to have. rooney and berb seemed a bit off pace but both scored! blackburn were poor though. seemed like a training game at times

  204. denton davey says:

I can’t believe the love for Carrick; he was atrocious. Perhaps his worst performance to date in a red shirt.

  205. Tufty says:

Nani isnt Ronaldo and never will be and the sooner idiots stop looking for him to be Ronaldo and get off his back the better.
Nani wasnt to bad today, his problem was the lack of movement in the box when he was looking for the cross, although I dont agree with his sulk when he got subbed.
Quite frankly, Rooney may not have even bothered turning up today he was shocking, just as he was last week, it was like playing with 10 men or given the times he gave the ball away it was like he was playing for Blackburn. He showed a lot more 2nd half, but the sooner this baby comes the better as its cleary effecting his game.
Great first half by Valencia and a great 2nd half by Anderson.

  206. Kings says:

Corea – We beat Leeds United to the title on goal average in 1965.

  207. Kings says:

Good to see Berba and Rooney score. Owen should have buried his chance, same can be said of Obertan, although he did look good when he came on. Need to play better than that next Sunday at Chelsea. Hopefully Fletcher will be back for that one.
