Manchester United are currently on 55 points after 22 games which is better than any team has ever managed since the introduction of three points for a win in the 1981-1982 season.

The highest total an English team had managed before this season was United in 06-07, when Cristiano Ronaldo started to blossom in to a world class player, and United amassed 54 points.

They say the table doesn’t lie, so does this mean that our current team is the best ever?

Whilst not knocking our achievements this year, I don’t think there’s any way you could argue our starting XI is better now than it was in 93-94/95-96/98-99/07-08. What has changed though is how high the standards are and how much more competitive the league is.

Still, this current team certainly deserve praise for accumulating 55 points, particularly when you consider the injury problems we’ve suffered.
