maybe he wants a more experienced team, because he isnt there, so he wont be slaughtered if they lose this shit? dunno..

  18. Always Be Closing says:

@man united – shut up with your ‘insider’ bollocks and terrible spelling; the team you quoted wasn’t right, so keep a lid on it.

  19. loughie21 - TPL says:

    Any good streams out there?

  20. Always Be Closing says:

I hear Sky Sports does a good one? :P Not started there yet though.

Nice to see three strikers on at the same time for the third time this season, seems like they’re trying more attacking footie down the centre too.

@Man United: Sorry for the duplication Mate, just caught up with your post.

Woohoo, Let’s hope Joe Murphy has a busy night. Hope Federico and Chicho light the place up. Hope Gibson and Anderson do well! Common Lads!

  26. Jonny says:

I hope Scunthorpe beat us today.

What a waste of time this competition is.

    38 Games in the league.

At least 6 in Champions League, probably about 10-12. Which already makes 50.

FA Cup and this should both be cancelled. International friendlies should be cancelled too.

    What a shower of shite.

  27. adkoill says:

now its time for young guns to shine/….

  28. loughie21 - TPL says:

@ sprite, how do i get that? download sopcast player?

write “Channel – 80517″ in the address bar.

  30. FletchTHEMAN says:

@Jonny, Disagree completely mate. We have to big a squad to have them sitting around. PIG wouldn’t get a game but for these. Folks like Brown Macheda etc need to be getting regular competitive games to bring them back in it. This is real competition this is. Give it a couple of rounds and we will see the games take on a better quality. I am with you that Scunnyboys should not be much of a barrier, but they may not know that!

  31. Zelh says:

scunthorpe is rocking us at the moment

  32. Chicharito14 says:

    Fuck me! Magical goal

  33. TheRadLegion says:

    scumthorpe

  34. Always Be Closing says:

Wow, they’re playing us off the park, we went all up with that last attack and got countered to fuck.

  35. Suberbatron says:

We really need to get a hold of the ball and keep it, get some composure back.

  36. samuel - united WE stand says:

@Jonny, wtf are you talking about cancelling the carling cup and fa cup? You might not take it serious but they’re competitions which gives opportunities to youngsters to develop there game and fringe players who need more minutes to keep there fitness up, we can’t play premier league and champions league regularly you know, if you don’t wanna watch it just turn it off

  37. Jonny says:

    @FletchTHEMAN
It’s true that players need competitive games to regain fitness after injuries etc

But is a game against Scunthorpe really more competitive than one against a premiership reserve team?

If some players can’t get a game for the first team because the squad is too big then we need to get rid of dead wood.

  38. Toms says:

Scunthorpe is playing some good football. We’re playing alright. Not the biggest fans of the balls being played by Anderson. Also disappointed Fabio didn’t start.

  39. Always Be Closing says:

Not to mention players that need the work like Chicha and Macheda, as well as Anderson coming back.

  40. Chicharito14 says:

    Gibbo! Goal

  41. portugueseprincess says:

    Thank you Gibbo!

  42. Suberbatron says:

    Gibbo!!

  43. Jonny says:

@samuel – united WE stand says

If some young players can’t get a game in the 50 league and european matches then they probably aren’t going to make it.

Either that or they need to go out on loan/play better for the youth or reserve team until they improve.

  44. TonyBee says:

Smalling …..fucking goal hanger……lets get a fucking hatful of goals now

  45. redrider says:

Great finish… Still lucky.Their chemistry seemingly better. Why dint fabio start?

  46. FletchTHEMAN says:

Jonny Not sure you get the quality of our fringe players. Most can walk into any bottom 10 prem team or any Championship side. They are that good. But the level of the starting 11 are just one or 2 classes above. Imagine our selling Fletcher on. Gibbson is doing tonight, exactly what Fletcher was doing a 4 years ago. This is part and parcel of what it is to be “brought along” at Manchester United. Look at the comments man. You are the only one who isn’t into this. Many fans really enjoy these competitions and the chances that it gives our reserve and junior players.

  47. Xyth says:

We are not playing as well as we can, but our supporters are surely enjoying themselves!!!!!
Our away support is simply the best!!!!!

  48. redrider says:

Which wise guy’s idea was to use the mitre ball? Might’ve as well played with a beachball…

  49. TonyBee says:

kiko wants to take on the clogger who is trying to clobber Chico….give the bully a taste of his own medicine…. owen i feel is past his best now will go off surely to bring on somebody who is hungry for goals

  50. Balaji says:

Scott, i am not able to see my comments in the Live Blog. Are they under moderation?

  51. Jonny says:

    @FletchTHEMAN

Okay lets look at the Gibson example in more detail.

He played 15 games in the league last season.
He played 3 times in the league cup.
He played 4 times in the Champions League.

In terms of experience, those three league cup appearances aren’t going to have too big an impact by comparison.

If we are talking about physical fitness, it is irrelevant, players train all the time and don’t even need to play to be fit.

If we are talking about match fitness, meaning getting a consistent run of form going, then this game is also irrelevant, as reserve team games are every week and present better opposition than Scunthorpe.

  52. FletchTHEMAN says:

Anyone able to tell me how to post to the live feed! I have put in my User name and posted 3 times but my comments never appear. :(

  53. parryheid says:

    Sprite.

How the hell did you know what number to key in ? I’ve had sopcast for weeks and always struggle to get the game I want I thought there would be an idiot guide. Is there? and if so how do I get to it.

  54. Always Be Closing says:

@Jonny – obviously they don’t if such a squad with experienced players is only winning 2-1. These matches keep confidence up, give great match fitness run-outs and are ideal for players like Owen and Chicha who aren’t getting too many games due to the pressure of performance needed with Berba going so well.

  55. Paul parker says:

Does any one tell me if tom cleverley is injured
if not what was the point in going to Wigan 2nd
game he isn’t even on the bench

  56. FletchTHEMAN says:

Jonny, We NEVER play the Reserve league games at Wembley and they aren’t counted as a senior trophy. CC is very different from a reserve game. Early doors, we will get games with Scunthorp etc., but the Arse played Totty yesterday and both teams used their fringe players for that. That was a decent game for 90 minutes. Also, Reserve games are not likely to see the types of challenges that Scunthorpe is dishing out because nobody cares about a reserve game. Believe you me, Scunny lads care a great deal about this game. This game may define many of their lives. At the end of this game, Chicho will know what british football is all about, and that is a fact. On the rest, we can agree to disagree. Cheers mate.

  57. Jonny says:

    @Always Be Closing
The problem with Owen and Hernandez is that we have too many strikers, not that there aren’t enough opportunities.

Owen will be gone by this time next year I think.

  58. Always Be Closing says:

@Jonny – I don’t dispute that, Owen won’t be here that long but having that cover is invaluable in the bigger games. Chicha will come gold, he needs to settle and see what footie here is about.

  59. TonyBee says:

what the fuck do I know….well done Mikey Owen

  60. RedevilsAdvocate says:

quiet anyone u says Owen is finished

  61. willierednut says:

    Good finish Mickey.

  62. Always Be Closing says:

    MICKKKEEEY!

  63. Jonny says:

    @FletchTHEMAN

That’s a good point but by the time we get to the semi final and final stages of both cups, it will be a first team line up. Younger players won’t get much of a look in and the first team will have another 3-4 games to worry about.

  64. TonyBee says:

fuckinh hell Parkie jumped on that one 4-1

  65. Chicharito14 says:

    6-1 drubbing inevitable.

  66. FletchTHEMAN says:

PARRRRRRK! OK this is going to get ridiculous. Park is great example. Cracking player. Love to see him do well. Often needed in the early-mid games of the Champions League, rather have him out their getting the hard challenges than many others. Guys like him, PIG, Brown, they will be in the CC final. They will play every game.

  67. TonyBee says:

    @redecilsadvocate.
Owen is finished as NO 1 STRIKER…only be used as a backup now and he knows it…. he willl score against teams like tonights lot but will always struggle against top teams.

  68. Chicharito14 says:

    Newcastle 3 – 1 chelsea

  69. Toms says:

Despite being 4-1 down, I have to give some props to the excellent scunth crowd. Definitely something Utd. fans could appreciate and sometimes learn form.

Owen will be gone by next year. Chicho has to be given atleast 6 months to bed in and Kiko will come good as well.

  70. willierednut says:

I think Gibbo has played really well tonight, but Ando still looks off the pace. Why are people surprised about our fans? Best in the land.

  71. FletchTHEMAN says:

TonyBee, Agree about Owen. But Owen is this years Henrik Larsen. Came in for only 13 games, but everyone agrees he was a key man for the runin. Owen will get chances and will play a role. Will move on probably. Hope he leaves on a high personally. He is a cracking talent, just a bit to short and lagging on the long runs. Just a bit too brittle as well.

  72. samuel - united WE stand says:

@Jonny, you need to quit this mentality of underestimating teams, if we had put out a full reserve against scunthorpe tonight without experience , we’d have got battered, you clearly don’t take this competition and the teams in it serious but its a good competition to bring youth players through and give games to fringe players .

  73. Sir berba says:

Is that newcastle vs chelsea scoreline correct?

  74. samuel - united WE stand says:

Owen was never going to be a starter at united, his all round game leaves alot to be desired, he can poach goals but wont offer much else, we can’t afford to carry passengers in big games.

Playing well tonight though but his contract won’t be increased except if he wants to warm a bench for a while.

  75. Jonny says:

    @samuel – united WE stand

We are winning 5-1, it could end up 6 or 7.

Hardly underestimating them am I :)

  76. portugueseprincess says:

    Vamos la Bebe! :)

  77. willierednut says:

    I need an adult!!

  78. Jonny says:

    I see BEBE!!

    I see bollocks too!!

haha Mike Phelan thought it was O’Shea at first, had to check he was still sat on the bench

  79. portugueseprincess says:

I love Mike Phelan! He is so likeable.

  80. Jerry Jack says:

    BEBETO

  81. FletchTHEMAN says:

For me, Smalling has played very well. Also very pleased with Ando and PIG.

Best sighting for me, GHTT on the live blog!!!!!!!!!!! We need a song for Gotta Hate :)

  82. Chicharito14 says:

Newcastle 4 – 3 chelsea. definitely one of the most dramatic league cup games of alltime.

  83. dela says:

    @Chicharito14

Agree. Whoever said the League Cup was a waste of time.

  84. Costas says:

Good result and a good run out for the likes of Owen, Park, Smalling and especially Ando. Great to see him back.

  85. dela says:

Full time, 4-3. So much for the Rentboys winning the quadruple.

  86. MG says:

So much for the chavs winning the Quadruple then lol : )

  87. portugueseprincess says:

    Chelsea are out hahahaha

  88. MG says:

    Dela

Snap : ) for having near enough the same comments : )

  89. Chicharito14 says:

    ”we can win the quadruple”.lmao

  90. willierednut says:

Go on Northampton, knock the dippers out!!

  91. samuel - united WE stand says:

@Jonny, we’ve had our fair share of shocks in cup competitions, yeah it was comfortable in the end but it wasn’t all smooth sailing, the positives for this games is that some of our players are working there way back from injury.

The likes of obertan, anderson got important minutes on the pitch, we need anderson back especially, obertan would put some pressure on nani, bebe will too.

smalling played well, rio got minutes, so did owen e.t.c, all in all a positive night, we need to start keep clean sheets though.

  92. RedevilsAdvocate says:

i think its unfair to label wen “finished” or “past it” when he cant get a decent run of games, even the best players in the world cant be expected to just come in after no football for weeks and set the world alight can hey? ‘m happy Mickey got his 2 goals 2night, it may only be scunthorpe but it’ll certainly help his confidence. Oh and good to see Bebe, I think he did ok, good result tonight

  93. mj says:

Ive seen a lot worse debuts… For a homelss man Bebe didnt look out of place out there. I understand it was against scunthorpe in the CC, but still he exceeded my admittedly low expectations.

  94. Dave Mack says:

City down 2-1 with 5 mins left! If the bitters go out with the rent boys it would really make my night!!

  95. samuel - united WE stand says:

@Chicharito14, i had a feeling that drogba comment would backfire on him, talk about over confidence really, hopefully this is a small sign of chelsea starting to crumble.

  96. willierednut says:

Don’t kid yourself, Chelsea will still be our biggest threat for the league this season.

  97. dela says:

    @MG
Haha.. You know what they say about great minds and how they think alike and all that.

Scousers are into extra time against Northampton Town, who incidentally are in the relegation zone of League Two. I love the League Cup!

  98. Dave Mack says:

I agree. Drogba talking about a quad in September says it all about the player and the Rent boys. I loved it cause it confirms how much they are getting carried away by the easy start to the season.

  99. RedevilsAdvocate says:

    *Owen

  100. samuel - united WE stand says:

United is the only club who develops the best wingers, ronaldo, beckham, kanchelskis, ryan giggs nani, bebe, obertan, valencia we really epitomise the art of wing play.

  101. Always Be Closing says:

I live in Northampton.. it’s priceless as there are loads of Scouse fans around here (like anywhere really), I shall be milking this lots.

  102. Dave Mack says:

City out to 2-1 to West Brom . What a night!!

  103. Costas says:

Love the egg on Drogba’s face, but ultimately this could work to their advantage. They don’t have the squad for a quadruple. Or a treble. IMO they can only handle 2 competitions at the same time.

  104. Always Be Closing says:

    @samuel – annnd Nani?

  105. dela says:

Full time. The Richest Club in the World (TM) are out.

If only Northampton can somehow sneak a win at Anfield, my day will be done.

  106. MG says:

    Dela

Great minds we are then : )

What a day – noisy neighbours and chavs – both who have been laying into us are out of a competition – fantastic –

    They can all fuck off

    Manchester United will never die

  107. willierednut says:

    City are out!!

  108. portugueseprincess says:

City are out hahahahahahahaha what a night!…2 down, one to go hahaha

  109. frankie says:

How can people say that Owen is finished after the game he had tonight? I thought he had an excellent all round game and scored two goals.

  110. Costas says:

Lol, we don’t even care to make fun of the dippers anymore.

    Tick tock….

That’s for Mancini. WHen is the next flight to Milan?

  111. Kingabdullah says:

Give me some ratings on how these players did:
    Gibson (more than shooting?)
    Ando (learnt anything from scholes?)
    Gibson and Ando partnership
    Chicharito (where did he play)
Macheda (threatening and positive as usual?)
Smalling (how did he do defensively)
Rio (ready to give Evans a breather?)
Bebe (someone said shades of ronaldo…please say yes)
Obertan (ready for action in the first XI?)

  112. samuel - united WE stand says:

@willierednut, agreed but chelsea seem to have this tag of invisibility that they will walk this league but we always welcome any sign of the bridge showing signs of mortality, they’re as effective as machines without a doubt but nice to see them lose at the bridge

Even sweeter that those twats at eastlands get kicked out.

  113. RedevilsAdvocate says:

so Drogba, how’s the quadruple coming then? ROFLMAO, oh and let’s all laugh at City…

  114. samuel - united WE stand says:

@Always Be Closing, what about nani mate?

  115. arijc says:

Eikrem or Evans deserved a chance in the last 10-15 mins. Puzzling decision to let a substitution go unused.

  116. willierednut says:

We’ll see on Saturday if Chelsea are starting to wobble, but as Costas says, this will probably help them, their squad isn’t the biggest.

  117. Chicharito14 says:

@ samuel. The re is even talk of them going through the league this season undefeated so lets just hope shitty, the gonners and villa dont dissapoint in the next 4 weeks.

  118. samuel - united WE stand says:

@arijc, yeah it would have being nice to see eikrem get minutes so we can see how he fairs against a much higher opposition than he faces in the reserves, supposed he’s got more time to do that? we’ve progressed in the league cup and fa cup to come.

Bit disappointed bebe didn’t get long enough on the pitch, talent is there definitely and he’s got more time to show it.

Pool are fucking losing, northampton 2 – pool 1

  119. dela says:

Northampton 2, Liverpool 1. This isn’t all a dream, is it?

  120. Dave Mack says:

While winning the CC doesn’t mean that much to Chelsea being knocked out in the first round is a definite bad thing for them .Just like United, they need games to get players match sharp either from injury or as squad players who will be needed to cover for injuries and suspensions as the going gets tough around the turn of the year.

Fergie has come to value the CC for that reason and don’t doubt that both City and Chelski will rue going out so early.

  121. CedarsDevil says:

    @ samuel

Add Gordon Hill, Jesper Olsen and Steve Coppell to that list …….

  122. Costas says:

I said it at the time, but Bebe doesn’t look as crap as a certain tabloid would make you believe.

  123. debaser says:

    Is Cleverly injured?
what’s the point of sending the lad out on loan if he cant get a Carling Cup game in for Wigan???

  124. samuel - united WE stand says:

@willierednut, fair point mate but they weren’t ever going to field big players in this competition so it gives them no advantage or disadvantage but always nice to see them lose either way.

@Chicharito14, exactly mate they’ve looked efficient this season, don’t think they’ve had to get out of 2nd gear to destroy teams, scoring for fun and i guess that’s where the media gave them that tag of invisibility but they’re yet to be tested for sure so we will see.

  125. Costas says:

    @debaser

Yes he is injured. He will be ready in 2-4 weeks.

  126. Chicharito14 says:

@Debaser he is out for two weeks with a knee injury.

  127. willierednut says:

United stopped Cleverley playing for Wigan in the league cup, don’t know why though.

  128. CedarsDevil says:

    @ Costas

If we were ever going to believe the English press in general than we would be saying that UNITED have been crap, lucky and fortunate for their success over the past 18 years, not to mention Sir Alex being an average manager!!!

  129. portugueseprincess says:

I couldn’t help it, I went to check the Liverpool group on Facebook and OMG this is the best laugh I have had in years. Guess what: some of them are asking to bring Rafa back! hahahahahaha desperate times hahahaha…now let me go back there :)

  130. samuel - united WE stand says:

@Costas, if we believed everything the media say, we’d all need to start questioning our intelligence, the tabloids are run by bitter clowns, just like us they haven’t seen him play properly and he needs time to settle into united style and english football, i certainly will be backing him and hopefully the talent shines through eventually.

  131. debaser says:

    Ok.
    Thanks everyone!

I was really looking forward to seeing more of Tom after a great preseason.

  132. obertanthenewstar says:

    @debaser

yep cleverly got injured last week in training for wigan… martinez said cleverly was shining aswel and was definetly going to start… sucks that.. out for a month… anyone remember anderson stretching and opening his knee damaging ligaments against west ham (i think)?? same injury cleverly has got

    SUCKS!

  133. samuel - united WE stand says:

@CedarsDevil, good choice mate and lets not forget the mercurial george best.

  134. obertanthenewstar says:

p.s who saw them step over’s obertan did… they were faster than ronaldo’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  135. Costas says:

@CedarsDevil, samuel – united WE stand

Good points lads. Not to mention that if the press were correct, Erikson would have been our coach by now!

The only thing they managed to do, was make Bebe more popular among fans.

  136. CedarsDevil says:

    @ samuel

How can I ever forget George Best, probably my favourite UNITED player of all time…. a singed painting of him hangs proudly on my living room wall…. Arguably the best player the world will ever see…

  137. Chicharito14 says:

What im still trying to understand is why on earth bebe has been slated by the daily mail.the guy looks like he is worth 7 million, and to be honest players like bentley were bought for more than that.

  138. CedarsDevil says:

    @ Costas

‘The only thing they managed to do, was make Bebe more popular among fans.’

Plus the fact that they made complete morons of themselves to the public…..

  139. dela says:

I always rued the fact that I wasn’t born in the 50′s- I missed the entire Busby era and the likes of Charlton, Law, Best and Duncan Edwards. The Ferguson era has been incredible, but to have been a witness to both eras would have been perfect.

  140. Costas says:

    @CedarsDevil

Also true, but they do that on a daily basis anyway…

  141. dela says:

Liverpool out. Perfect end to a perfect day.

  142. CedarsDevil says:

Regardless of how we classify the Carling Cup, but for the dippers to be knocked out by a team from the 4th tier of English football AND at anfield is really worthy of a big laugh

  143. MG says:

dela you just got your wish

This is not inception this is real

noisy neighbours liverpool chavs all out on one night in September of football

    What a game : )

  144. Costas says:

So Spurs, City, Chelsea and Pool all eliminated on the first round. Can’t remember anything like this happening again.

  145. CedarsDevil says:

    @ Costas

As laughable as the dippers defeat was for me city’s is even funnier…. A multi billion squad losing out on another chance to win something… keeps our banner alive LOL

My money is on mancini to be the first PL manager to lose his job…. and long may the laughs continue

    Mancini or Hodgson? Bets please!

Agreed. The dippers, you feel kind of sad for. Chelski, you knew it was coming given their squad depth. But City getting knocked out was hillarious…One step closer to retaining the banner, lol.

    @ABC

Mancini imo. They will probably forgive this, but it won’t make things easier for him. If he is not in the top 4 by Christmas, they will Mark Hughes him…

  148. CedarsDevil says:

    @ Costas

    Mark Hughes him…………..LOL brilliant

  149. parryheid says:

Astonishing both Chelsea.s teams out ,well I never

  150. KVN says:

They will Mark Hughes him! Luv that phrase!
All I can really say it’s a positive result for United all round. Dippers out, Chelski out
Wastelanders out. Plus good performances from PIG, Rio, Smalling, Anderson, Gibson
Owen . Made me think that these are the games where players like Rio etc coming back from
Long injuries and needing match sharpness and a proper work out are priceless.
    Onwards and upwards.
The Newcastle result shows that they are not invincible like the media and they
Would want us to believe. In fact they haven’t been tested. Who have they played
So far? West Brom @ home, Wigan away (who lost 4-0 @ home to blackpool the week b4)
Stoke @ home, West Ham away and Blackpool @ home. 5 easy games!
