Warrored, Yeah I’ve noticed that too. Seem to be a problem in there. Looking at their match against QPR now and it bothers me how he has gotten a shout in the team lately.

Confirmed that Rio Ferdinand has played his last season for United. Sad day. One of the greatest defensive partnerships in this club’s history is no more. I want to thank Rio for being a great servant to this club. Served this club for more than 10 years and formed an almost impenetrable partnership and leadership team with Vida. Wish him all the best in his future endeavors. One of the greatest of his time and one of the best defenders this club has ever seen.

Looking forward to seeing who will step up and fill the position at the centre of defense next season. Evans, Smalling, Jones have to shine now or risk being relegated to second fiddle again.

    Rio!!!!!!! :( :( :(

    Rio Ferdinand
    454 appearances, 8 goals.
6 time PFA Team of the Year
Right, and he’s won it 6 times!

“It is understood that Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward broke the news to Ferdinand, 35, in the dressing-room following Sunday’s final game at Southampton. Several people were present at the time and expressed surprise that Woodward chose to bring down the curtain on Ferdinand’s 12-year stay at United in such a manner.”

Surely the Daily Mail made this up? I mean there’s no way Ed could be that much of a bollocks, right?

  5. Gary Mitrovic says:

I think it’s the right decision to let Rio go. It’s a shame it wasn’t under better circumstances and he could have said goodbye properly, but Rio’s legacy at the club is set in stone. He’s been a brilliant player for United and contributed hugely to our success. Good luck to him in the future.

  6. Gary Mitrovic says:

Dela, if that is true it’s a pretty unsavoury way for Rio to be told by that prick that his United career is over. I don’t trust Woodward, he looks like a right slimy character.

  7. Gary Mitrovic says:

Diego Costa 32million deal agreed apparently with Chelsea. That could pave the way for Hernandez to move to Atletico I reckon. I think it will be a real shame to lose Hernandez, but it seems inevitable.

  8. Gary Mitrovic says:

I’m talking way ahead of myself, but I can see Atletico picking Hernandez up for a bargain price and him going though and banging in 25-30 goals next season. They have a great record in the last decade with singing or producing quality strikers and then selling them for huge fees.

  9. Gary Mitrovic says:

Fletch, Rio and Vidic are an irreplaceable partnership. Jones, Evans, Smalling, who ever, they will never be as good. We need to be in the market for a top centre back this summer to partner Evans.

  10. Dela says:

Time is right for Rio to move on. Gonna forever miss the Rio – Vidic partnership!

  11. Fletch™ says:

Gary: 100% Aggree. Need 2 top class CB’s minimum. Been mucking about for 3 years on this when everyone and their auntie saw it coming.

Missed out on the league in 2012 for lack of cover in CB.
This year could be classed as a second failure down to the same cause.
MF is desperate state as well

You know you are absolute laughing stock when the only CMs you can name
    are
    Cleverley (benched)
    Anderson (on loan)
    Fletcher (crocked)

Also, name the last England team that didn’t have a united midfielder?!
    It’s Official! We are sh*te!

  12. warrored says:

The thing is guys, Rio et al are all at the end of their careers here. It’s sad as they’ve all been fantastic for us, but the new manager will be building the team of the future.

A team set to compete in Europe in 2015.

Do we keep Rio or free up a position and wages for the future of the club.

We all knew wholesale changes were needed but you just don’t prepare for the day when the decisions have to be made. It’s what Fergie did the best.

If his end was delivered by Ed as is written, then it sounds like a hatchet job of Roman emperor proportions.

Lots of damage was done with the team leaks. Maybe it was him and this is their way of saying your a cunt Rio.

  13. Gary Mitrovic says:

Fletch, yea I’d have to go along with ya. We are shite right now. Crucial summer coming up.

  14. Mirainashe says:

I’m not in favor of dumping all our experienced players. Seems a foolish decision to make. We’ve already lost Vidic, now Rio and next Evra. Next is Carrick probably. I don’t a see any good in Wayne Rooney as our next leader. Let’s keep the experienced guys and phase them out more wisely. A clear out is dangerous. I don’t see why Evra and Carrick should be chucked out. Carrick to some is useless, but I feel having the most consistent midfielder since he came and the things we have won with him,I don’t see that as a coincidence. It’s only the season before last that he was arguably the league’s best CM alongside Yaya Toure. He simply needs a better manager. All the players do. But I’m not saying let’s stick with Carrick for old times sake. I’m saying in midfield for instance, the new player or players need time to settle. Time which our rivals will give no one. So Carrick in the middle would act like how Scholes helped him settle back in 06. Without Scholes I think Carrick would have struggled not because of lack of talent, but because there would be no one to guide him as he settled in. Same thing in defense. We need to keep a familiar face with experience. It helps whoever is coming in. Imagine Vidic coming in to find Rio gone and having to work with Pique and Wes Brown and O’Shea. But Rio was there and he helped him settle. Evra is well respected in the dressing room and has bags of experience. Keep him around to help the new defenders coming in. Football is not as black and white as we make it out to be

When i see how big clubs treat their legends i m not suprised when plqyers goes for money. Same did Juve with Del Piero, Milan with Pirlo. I know that some fans (guess who) will say that it s not the same. Because when we doing shit, then this is not shit.
We are rich club, Juve and Milan also. If thise guys want contract for 2-3 years, is really gonna kill us those 3-4 millions per year. I mean, they deseved it. How many players you have in club for 10 or more years? And then we act so skimpy. Can t understand. Pirlo got better offer from RM, and he said NO. This isthank you. Jerks! We are no better.
My opinion is, CHASE THE MONEY, who cares about the club. They care about themselfs, so you shuld do the same.

  16. Mirainashe says:

In all honesty, while I have come to discover that anything is possible,I just don’t see Woodward doing that. It seems incredible and fictional. It’s also highly unnecessary. This is no leak but utter bullshit. Simple.

  17. warrored says:

@Fletch and Gary, it doesn’t look good at the moment, but on e LVG is announced and players are coming in I think we’ll start to see a glimpse into the future.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Lovren arrive with Shaw. Crap for Southampton though.

The club got complacent under SAF because he was so good. We all knew that he got another 25% out of players.

Van Gaal is one of those who do the same.

I worry when all I hear is so and so at 30 million etc. Surely our scouting system aided by LVG will know of really good players out there that don’t cost the earth.

I joked about Kroos and Shaw being Shawcross, right now he’d be a starter for us.

  18. Mirainashe says:

    @Marko

To a great extent I agree with you. Football is a fickle game. I remember at some point during the Mourinho blitz of Robben and freakin Damien Duff, during those trying years people were saying we should cut our losses with Giggs and Scholes to get Riquelme(whom I loved by the way) etc. But 2006-07 season guess who was in the PL Team of the season. In Ferguson’s last season,Rio was the top CB in the PL. The best. Suddenly he is so useless he doesn’t even deserve a year long extension. Great. It’s amazing how we demand loyalty from players, yet we have zero loyalty ourselves. This season I couldn’t believe how people were siding with Moyes and attacking players like Rio who have given everything for this club. How short sighted. I have never agreed that players should be castigated for choosing money first because that’s exactly what all of us do anyway. But I have also never understood the hypocrisy shown by fans who demand loyalty and yet turn around and dump on players that show loyalty. Berbatov is one. Rejected the super money from City, but even in his best season when he finished the league’s top scorer but was inexplicably dropped to make easy for Rooney, no one bat an eye. And a bunch of people were thrilled to see the back of him. I’m not for United being a charitable club that keeps everyone happy, but I believe that those who have shown loyalty coupled with actual ability, we should repay I’m kind. If Giggs can be in a position to play on next year then surely Rio should be given at least a year. Just saying

  19. Martin Thomas says:

    So Rio is going…. I can’t say that I am sorry…

He had no problem undermining his manager (Moyes) at every opportunity, yet he thought he could survive himself on reputation alone… A very good defender (when he felt like it), but he never was a United player in the sense that he had a rapport with the fans. Because he didn’t (anyone remember Ferdinand’s infamous “Fuck off, Manc!” remark to one red?). And all the ‘Best defender in the world’ hype was just that…. Rio may have more trophies and money than other United center backs like Bruce, Pallister, Buchan, McQueen, Holton, Moran, McGrath, Stam, Johnsen, and the late Bill Foulkes. But he will never be loved and remembered like those men will be in United folklore. And Ferdinand only has himself to blame for that…

  20. warrored says:

if LVG becomes manager and keeps Giggs I can see him hanging up his boots too. We are not a conference side with a player coach.

  21. warrored says:

Aren’t Kolo Toure and Puyol free in the summer?

  22. warrored says:

I gave up my season ticket when Rio was caught with Kenyon twice in restaurants 6 months into his ban and being paid £63K a week.

    It totally pissed me off.

  23. Marko Maric says:

spooooot on! My question was…Berbatov was very good to club and all fans said that, but WHAT HE HAS FROM THAT????? So if club dont respect me, why should i respect the club. SAF didn t allow him to go eeven he was more than 29 yo. Hey, guy need to take care for his career, we can t just look at ourselfs.

  24. Paul davidson says:

Well, its sad to see rioferdy5 go. But we all knew his time was up, we’ve got to look to the future now. I hope LVG have got smart options for his replacement, although I’ll miss Vida more. Vidic was our warrior and our hero!

  25. Tommy says:

    @Ashtheking

Lampard has had an awful season as well, in my opinion the most overrated player in this generation, He was a passenger for England in 2006 and 2010. He has had enough world cup chances in my opinion. Plus he will melt at age 36 in that brazilian heat. The good thing about Carrick is he uses the ball, hes never been an athlete, dosent get round the pitch, he lets the ball do the talking which is exactly what you need in a world cup in brazil

  26. Tommy says:

    @Warrored

Didnt LVG give Puyol his Barca debut? Dont rule it out lol

  27. Chris says:

If its true that Woodward dropped the news on Rio in the dressing room then he’s a bigger cunt than I gave him credit for, like him or not to treat a senior player who has been at the club for over decade in that manner is scandalous.
