LIVE BLOG: UNITED vs Newcastle

Tonight’s live blog will be hosted by Brad who is born and bred United fan. His dad took him to his first game at Old Trafford aged two on the Stretford End in the mid 80′s. These days he’s a season ticket holder, living in exile in the capital. His favourite United memory is attending his first FA Cup Final and seeing a Cantona inspired United thrash Chelsea 4-0 in 1994.

Absolutely mental line-up. I love it. At least it makes the build-up exciting; I’ll be nervous a f*ck for the game itself. [Pardon my French.]

  18. Costas says:

If nothing else hopefully one (or both) the central defenders will win over the manager tonight.

    Welcome back Fletch!

  19. utd_fc says:

Good line up!! Although I’m hoping it’ll be welbz n chico up front w Rooney playing behind them in the hole rather than chico n rooney pushed out to the wings

  20. Proverb says:

    Obviously Nani is nowhere near
Probably the rumours which spread around after the scouser game that he will not touch a ball in united shirt again has some truth in it….

Hopefully its not the case, but I expected him to play tonight
Now with valencia injured he’ll be much involved

  21. Proverb says:

subs: Johnstone, Evans, Powell, Tunnicliffe, King, Lingard, Brady”

  22. hammed abiola f says:

Just dont give a damn about result tonight, really want to see what the future hold for us. Keane and Wotton to be ably aided by fletchy, chicha to keep their back busy all night. God is on our side.

  26. Proverb says:

Selected tweets from dippers fans, anyone surprised? :D

Morgan did travel. Maybe that he picked up an injury today or there’s a personal reason that he’s out?

Have Manchester United dropped both Howard and Halsey for tonight’s match? brave move from Sir Alex, they’ve been so consistent for them

Man United starting XI: Atkinson, Marriner, Dowd, Foy, Friend, Clattenburg, Probert, Mason, Swarbrick, Webb, Halsey.

  27. Costas says:

Hmm, I was expecting Fletch to alter his style.

  28. The team that wouldn't die says:

Anderson making a case for himself yet!

  47. WeAreUnited says:

    nice one from anderson,

he and cleverley plays so well together, fletcher is doing the cover well.

rooney and chicha are playing well

  48. Marq says:

Anderson still looks a tad overweight, but great strike for the goal. Good to see Rooney lean and fit.

And what a difference Fletcher makes to our midfield. Full of energy and running

  49. Proverb says:

Haha he can’t shoot, oh wait a minute!! ;)

  50. Costas says:

Fun stuff so far. Really impressed with Michael Keane and Ando.

Fletch in his new role is doing well. Offers some good protection to the back 5.

  51. redbilly says:

A joy to watch fletch so commanding on the ball.

  52. belfast red. says:

Wootton and keane have been good. Fletch Looks pretty sharp aswel. An Anderson Looks well up for it. Loads of energy going forward. We Look good on the counter.

  53. nesh says:

Really happy for Ando and the novelty of the team is on another level…lets Finnish it off

  54. motgp says:

Gary Neville signing autographs in the stands, smiling, and greets every fan. Great stuff.

  55. youCANTbuyTHISfeeling says:

So good to see Fletch back :) ))))
Anderson’s looking strong on the ball, great shot! Cleverley as usual is neat and smart but he really does need to work on his finishing, and Buttner assured performance again.
Enjoying this…Liverpool was a hard watch even if we won

  56. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

i am highly impressed with the way we moved the ball in that first half and for a young inexperienced back four they did pretty well. the only issue with them is at set pieces. they aren’t as strong as the likes of colloccini and williamson. anderson was awesome so was fletcher and Rooney is back to his lean self. he looked sharp. more of the same for the rest of the season. quick ball movement and more goals for us hopefully.

  57. D'GING€r PrinC€ says:

  72. The Devil in Me says:

Lads playing some great link up play.

  74. mig78 says:

  75. mig78 says:

    true!

  81. youCANTbuyTHISfeeling says:

Well played lads, good run in for a few

  82. Hans says:

Well done lads. Youngsters have made us proud tonight!

  83. RMJ says:

great game for our kids…most impressed with young keane who i believe should be a part of the senior setup for enter back…was great in the preseason and was great today…wootton well he is young

  84. Marq says:

Yea, finally a pleasing game to the eye. Nervous ending with Cisse hitting the bar, but it was nice to see our play with movement and pace.

The big plus out of this match, Rooney & Fletcher looked really good

  85. Costas says:

Everything you’d want in a match like this. A win, a good performance and some promising youngsters.

Obviously we can’t play this team regulary, but without a doubt, Keane, Wootton, Tom and Ando should be in contention now. No more Carrick at CB or Giggs at CM please.

Fletch did ok. Anderson looked more tired than him. .

And Rooney looked a LOT fitter tonight. That’s one of the biggest pluses.

  86. Mahesh says:

Is it just me, or am I right in thinking that Rooney hasn’t looked this trim in a while? And he looked mentally sharp as well, like he’s never been out…big plus having him back. Ando was superb for the most part, till he tired late on and went missing for a bit. Fletch was massive too…and the young boys all did well, with Vermijl (again till he tired and became vulnerable) and Keane standing out for me.

  87. Mahesh says:

And oh yeah, by far the most enjoyable 90 mins this season. By far!

  88. Utd4life says:

Costas. Could not agree more mate. Wonderful performance from the lads tonight. Highlight of the evening was seeing us dominate the midfield. Hope the trend continues.

  89. Utd4life says:

The exuberance of youth came through tonight.

And oh yeah, Alan Pardew can fuck off. I hate that fist twirling twat.

  90. Robin van Gora says:

Gosh didnt really i had that much confidence in ddg. I wasnt worried about and i kept telling my mates not to worry. The pass to chicharito in extra time was special. Thought chicharito is looing sharp again. Thhe goal by clevs was his movement that made it. Took defenders away. Lets beat spurs

  91. Costas says:

    @Mahesh

Rooney’s presence was also a reminder of how influential he can be in games. It’s something RVP (or anyone else) just can’t replace.

    @Utd4life

Ha. I had forgotten the feeling of seeing UNited dominate an opponent’s midfield. Especially in the first 45 minutes, Ando showed what player he can be and what kind of player we are missing now. If only he could improve on this…

  92. Proverb says:

Some fucking great stuff from the young lads
Absolutely mouth watering, two great goals by our two exciting pairing mids
Hernandez looking good as ever, that was a surprise his hold up were tremendous, his link up on the attack were on touch…..

    Great game all in all

  93. Utd4life says:

Costas. Ando is exactly the type of player we need in the midfield. Someone who is dynamic and who can take the game forward centrally rather through the flanks. His inconsistency and fitness has been his downfall but I hope he improves in both areas. The midfield worked like a charm today. That set of Rooney-Ando-Cleverley-Fletch were perfect. Rooney kind of played the box to box midfielder role, Fletch stayed back and protected the back 4 while Ando and Cleverley retained the ball and supported the forwards. Beautiful midfield performance.

  94. Proverb says:

Holy shit. Liverpool WON a game tonight. No WUM. Honestly
The loanee saves their asses, sahin scored both goals 2-1

  95. Eric keane says:

    Chelsea away

  96. Fibes says:

    Brad should have got MOTM

  97. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Great win.

United draw Chavs away 4th round. Bring it on!

  98. Adam says:

    bbqbod says:
Probably the first united match Ive enjoyed since the start of last season

    for sure!

  99. Gopher Brown says:

The team looked great tonight I must say. No wingers so the fullbacks were getting forward a lot. Fletch played as an auxiliary centre back for a lot of the game which allowed them to get forward. We weren’t overrun in the middle at all which was a plus too, but it highlighted to me the real difference between Fletch and Carrick. Fletch was running around, pressuring the opponents, nicking balls when he could whereas Carrick just sits in there and intercepts and distributes. If Fletch can get back to full fitness, he could be great against teams with a No10 playmaker, like Cazorla or Mata.

Anderson reminded us how dynamic our midfield can be when we don’t have Carrick and Scholes playing from deep. Ideally, I’d like to see Carrick, Clev and Anderson play against Tottenham, although it would require Kagawa or Rooney/Welbeck to play out on the left wing, which would leave Evra exposed against Lennon somewhat I fear.

  100. bigwill09 says:

good perfomance by the lads i wish SAF puts faith in the clev ando dou..and is it just me or do you guys also sense a change in lil pea??? he is mean with the ball great link up play , hard to disposes i hope that puts him ahead of wellbeck in the pecking order.
