dos santos is a product of barca academy so no surprise there’s some decency in his play.

Dos Santos looked quality in the world cup and you would have thought that should have bought him more games, Spurs should have sold him on last year. They can’t handle good players and it’s time they realised they are just a feeder club for the better teams. Let him go and have a good career elsewhere.

Dos Santos is a curious case – terrific skill and very pacey, too. Yet he’s “failed” wherever he’s played. His goal was a spectacular individual effort – what a lob/chip !
What I took from the game was that Dos Santos’ individual brilliance was greatly aided by the enormous amount of space that “fear of Chicharito” created.
Last year, Chicharito was an unknown commodity and, until the CL final, he was not tightly marked. He was largely invisible against Barcelona which should have created space “in the hole” for UTD’s attacking midfielders – Rooney/Giggs/Valencia/Park – but that didn’t happen. Why ?
That raises a very interesting point for UTD fans: if you over-play Chicharito then the other attackers can have a field day BUT if you play Chicharito without close attention then the Mexicutioner will kill you.
I know he didn’t score but I just love Hernandez’ cool headedness for Mexico’s second goal. How many times in that situation have we seen a player tap the ball into an empty net on instinct only to be flagged for offside. His awareness to not touch the ball just shows how calm he is in and around the penalty area. Gary Lineker springs to mind when making a comparison, just a natural predator.
Rai – As far as I known Ferguson has already stated that he won’t be taking part in any of the USA tour. Seem to remember him saying that anyways. The next time we see Hernandez in a United top will probably be at Wembley against City.

Id like to lend my weight to the fact that we DO NOT need a fucking midfielder. We DO NOT need a Sneider or a SChweinsteiger. Even though they would be nice they are NOT needed. We didnt lose to Barcelona because of a lack of a midfielder, we lost because they have been allowed to gather a squad together made up of some of the worlds best footballers that just so happen to have a mass of experience. Not just at club level but also internationally. Our beating of Arsenal and Chelsea and the rest of Europe (except Barcelona) pays testiment to that.
Can we also stop saying stupid things like Young isnt better than so and so so we are gradually getting worse as a team. We are a squad team, we have depth, we pick and choose. We have a footballing philosophy that everyone at the club knows and can fit in with all the other players seemlessly. When we have injuries the only thing that effects us is maybe player B isnt quite as gifted as player A. We never say player B doesnt seem to know what hes doing unlike other clubs ala Liverpool and Chelsea. Can we stop going on about the need for some other bloody clubs superstar that may not even fit in here. even if we did sign a Sneijder, he wont play every game anyway, he wouldnt be first choice, he would be A choice.
I really get pissed off that everyone on here claims to be a United fan but can find a “better” player than our player on other teams. If thats the case fuck off and support said teams. We all watch Mexico and support Chica when hes playing without having any other loyalties to Mexico so what would be the hardship for you to support Inter when Sneiders playing. I would love to talk on a blog that has fans that seem to understand what Fergusson has given us. Alot of so called fans on here just see an older Mourinho on the bench. Shocking.

And the figure being thrown around for Young is somewhere between 16m and 20m. So really we’re talk about a figure somewhere between 33m and 40m for the pair.

No doubt he will get his shot, just a question of this season or next.

Colbert – Yes a terrible away record but don’t forget about our truely outstanding home record. We won 23 league matches this year, 1 more than our treble winning side who only managed 79 pts that season, 1 less point than this season. Each season is different and with the league getting stronger the days of breaking 90 pts could be long gone. I’m not dismissing that our away form was poor but I do disagree with your statement that the league champions and champions league runners up were the “best of a bad bunch”.
i agree with Goat on the point that we must appreciate and back our boys and manager to the hilt. what i don’t agree with is that we don’t need to freshen up the midfield. it is painfully obvious that we need 1/2 new midfielders just to freshen things up and create a bit of competition for places in midfield.
i don’t think it is a coincidence that teams attacked us a lot more away from home and got a lot of joy and its not a foregone conclusion that we will win 18 and draw 1 at home every season.
i hate to bring this up but look at barcelona. they have just won the CL and the league comfortably, yet they are looking to add to their squad with players of the quality of sanchez and fabregas ! neither of them will be first choice at barcelona but that is what is needed to stay at the top.
i know we have also added to our squad but i think everyone agrees that these are players bought with the aim of winning the league not the CL. SAF said himself that barcelona is our target yet our buys don’t reflect that. this is just my opinion.

@Colbert, Apart from what byron said which I agree with, I’d like to add one more thing. The issue most people have is with the sucking up some fans do here. Coming on and saying Sir Alex should buy Sneijder or we are doomed without a central mid-fielder signing. Now, I am one of the optimits, I don’t care who we buy as long as the big guy is in-charge. I trust Sir Alex implicitly and I know every move he makes will take us as a club forward.
I understand that not everyone will share my optimism. However, people should learn from someone like denton davey who has been one of the biggest advocates of De Rossi. However, he doesn’t make statements like Sir Alex should buy De Rossi or we are doomed without a MF signing. He initiates thoughtful debates that all of us can be a part of. If everybody can engage in meaningful discussions like that apart from the banter we all love, then Goat will have no need to rant like that.
But I guess I am dreaming, with ROM’s popularity, there are always bound to be a few idiots who will come in and make statements like that. The best thing for us to do is ignore them.

Regarding the Liverpool thing, I have a cousin brother who is a Liverpool fan and lived in Newcastle when he was studying in the U.K. I never knew United hate until I started speaking to him about football. The hate he has for us is probably more than the love he has for Liverpool.

I think it’s true. We have by far the strongest squad, but United and the rest of the top teams aren’t as strong as a few years ago. Also, the rest of the league has gotten better.

Granted at the time I thought my world had ended but once we win the league I really couldn’t give a fuck who beats us along the way. It’s all about the destination it doen’t matter how you get there. I tried telling him that I’m more bothered about the times we lost to Liverpool in OT in the 03/04 or 01/02 seasons when that twat Danny Murphy scored the winners cause we didn’t win the league them years. He just didn’t seem to accept what I saying. I’d have been better off trying to tell it to my dog. Liverpool fans, sure what can you do, just have to put up with them I guess. Liverpool fans have a very special type of brainwashing that goes beyond that of the normal fan. They know their club has been shite for years but are desperate to convince everyone they are still relevant and a ‘top 4′ club rather than 6th place material like Villa, Everton etc.
You can’t really blame them, it must really suck to know they’re the SECOND most successful club in the country but can’t even get into the Europa League let alone win the Premiership, and they’ve spent the last 20 years watching their rivals eclipse all their achievements.

For example… some people reckon we should sell Ando and buy Santos, but in my opinion that boy Anderson is the most exciting midfielder in the League right now, including Modric, Santos, whoever. If he continues next season like he ended the last one (5 top games on the trot / couple goals) then we’ll have the “new” midfielder everyones crying about. He’s been trying to displace Scholes since he arrived, but he’s only 22/23 FFS, its been hard enough getting into the biggest Club in the World. Now I think its his time, he’s gonna have a blinder next season and I don’t think theres a player we could buy for the middle i’d be more excited about. A new midfielder would be nice, but our current midfield is more than good enough, people forget we didn’t have Ando or Fletcher for most of the season, and now we have Young as an option in the middle.
Likewise, i’d glad we signed Young, with his 20 goal contribution per season for the last 4 seasons (score/assist) , instead of some over-ratedTwat with a step over, a hard on for Spain, and the audacity to want a bidding war after one decent season. More importantly, it is logical that when you lose GNev, Scholes, Hargreaves, Van der Sar, and possibly Brown, Gibson and/or O’Shea; that replacements are required. It seems very unlikely that no experienced players (apart from Young) are to join the squad.

I’ve always thought Berba could be a solid mid, but maybe that’s just a fantasy. He sees everything on the field and has the most deft touch of anyone on the squad. He has the size to dominate physically but would probably need to be paired with another there on the inside who holds a little more verocity (a Scholes-esque) element. Most importantly, he is very unselfish and a brilliant footballing mind who would love to do whatever SAF needs to win a game. Thoughts?

Mexico played the hole turny awesome. The wings flying beating people 1 on 1 fired shot in as well as crosses. The US was not as deep with one hurt player at fb Mexico scored 4 straight. Cherundolo bailed us out all tourney, when he went out I thought we’d still be able to hold but when I saw dumbass Bradley bring in that POS Bornstein and switch Lichaj to the other side I knew we were fucked. Bornstein should never see the inside of a soccer stadium ever again without buying a ticket. That said, again in a big game when we needed his best (hello Ghana) Tim Howard had an off night. Mexico played well but it wasn’t nearly as lopsided as the score. I’m happy for Chicharito but sad for the US team, the only good results out of this tourney would have been a win or a flaming stinker that would have got Bradley canned, IMO.
