The more experienced players should be shot for this shambles – O’Shea, Fletcher, Giggs in particular. Bebe really doesn’t look up to it, sad to say. Why does Fabio not learn from his mistakes, with his diving in? Anderson and Smalling are doing OK, but no-one is organising the defence. What makes it worse is that they started brightly, thought they could walk it, and now none of them seems able to get a grip. Shite all round.

i don’t think evanc is that bad o’shea is and the midfield bar the first 10min are non existent both in attack and in defence. once we start that long ball(o’shea) we lost our shape and the midfield..i can’t blame the defence.

In all honesty, I think Evans is definitely a great prospect in terms of his general game. But WTF is the United physical team doing with him, I will never know. They need to get him on some strict diet to get physical. Every time he plays, I feel even a fly can roll him over and IMO he only really struggles against the more physical teams, so that is something that has to be really looked into. In general talent, I would still want him to be at United for a long time.
To me it just means we can now win the league and the FA cup, and with a bit of luck in the draw, maybe ohhhh just maybe the Champions league. But I dream and imagine things.

@RedScot, I want Jonny Evans to “actually” grow if people can get that. I think his basic game is pretty great but why the hell has nobody asked him to beef up. I have seen Rafael improve physically, hell even Bebe has improved since we signed him and if Evans improves physically I can see him as the perfect partner to Smalling.

Anderdson was the one who played so well just 2 days ago against Blackburn.
Fletcher is a first teamer.
Hernandez is probably our best striker at the moment.
Smalling is a fantastic defender who did little wrong tonight.
So nothing wrong with the team selection mate. These players should have done better than this. Losing is one thing, doing it like this is totally another.

In fairness to Evans, every young defender goes through this, if he survives it, he’ll probably play for United for a few seasons and have a reasonable career.
However, not all of them do and end up forging out careers at smaller clubs.
TIme will tell, none of us are going to be too broken hearted by this tonight, more just embarrassed that inexperienced or not, West Ham 4, United 0 makes unpleasant reading.

What can I say that hasn’t been said? Really depressing performance and an even worse result. If we had to choose a competition to lose our unbeaten record in of course it would be the Carling Cup but that’s not to say it doesn’t hurt!
What on Earth has happened to Evans though? Such a fall from grace, the lad is painfully low on confidence. Fletcher yet again costing us another goal, sort it out Fletcherinho!
Can’t think of any positives to take from player performances, my only ray of sunshine is that, hopefully, this result makes our players even more determined to get 3 points when we return in the league.

i think evans is a player who performs badly when he is low on confidence. and he seems out of sorts even with simple passes.
feel really sad for the team. but we have seen this quite often that when opposing teams are up for the fight we tend to roll over and lost total control specially of the midfield.
but PPL say we need experience, well what is oshea evans fletcher giggs and anderson. There was enough experience to handle that tonight, but the rumors of giving oshea a new contract should be reconsidered has he could not pass square to save his life, he kept tucking inside to ce and left our flanks exposed, evans once again had one rubbish game and when ever oshea and evans are playing in the same 11 we look like leaking goals for fun and they were not the worst performers. fletcher giggs and fabio were terrible, so the excuse we played to many young players was not true

(Berbatov is our best striker at the moment, but that’s not the point). I think starting a few more experienced players would have helped today, we certainly missed someone who can take control of our midfield and create chances i.e. Scholes. Hernandez didn’t have much to feed off tonight.
Evans was almost as bad today as against Porto and Milan in the last two Champions League campaigns. A shocking player without the attitude to make up for it. We were fortunate those teams didn’t knock us out of Europe because of him but a centre back, Obinna and Carlton Cole weren’t making that mistake!

the loss is heavy but most of the display reflects our season so far, we rarely boss the midfield. some here were having a pop at hernandez and macheda..amazing what can they do..there was absolutly no service from the midfield and even though the defence could have avoided some of the goals again the midfield did not protect them it was 4-0-1/2 formation. This loss is a CC game but no doubt will give the likes of b.pool confidence to have a go at us.

Some terrible performances all over the pitch, and from some of the younger players its kind of forgivable, but there was enough experience out there to win the game.

Evans tries to play without aggression or determination, which is impossible for a central defender. When we sold Piquet and kept Evans it boggled my mind then – and it still does.
This tonight has been coming for a long time this season, Sunderland should have thrashed us, so should Villa, Wigan were the better team till the red cards. We have only played well against a Blackburn team who had 7 players out injured and who’s game plan went out the window when they conceded in the first minute – then capitulated – which is strange because teams usually only do that against Chewsea.

For me, there were two good things to emerge from this humiliation. First, Anderson, just plain Darren Fletcher (lost soul(, and Ryan Giggs all got 90 minutes.
And, second, Fabio and Bebe, in particular, now have a better idea of how much improvement is going to be required;. In Fabio’s case, his strength is suspect and he was bullied by Luis Boa Morte; in Bebe’s case, he could do with looking around rather than just pile-driving forward. But these two guys are young kids and we’ll have to call it a learning experience for them and Gabriel Obertan.
But, what can one say about Jonny Evans and John O’Shea; they were both pathetic.
Let’s not forget that the mighty, all-conquering Barcelona lost to newly-promoted Hercules at the Nou Camp a while back. Shit happens, Time to move on to the next EPL game and put this one in a very dark corner of the memory bank.
