Look What You Could Have Won!

It looks as though Rafael Van der Vaart and fit wife Sylvie are moving to London. The Real Madrid midfielder, who recently claimed United were the only club he could join which wouldn’t be a step down, looks to be heading to Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

“If Manchester United could offer me first-team football with the situation as it is at Madrid, it would be very hard to turn down,” he said. “Alex Ferguson is a great coach and I would never think about joining a team where I didn’t believe I could win things, so all of a sudden that limits your choices. At Manchester United you know success is likely and that’s a big factor for me at this stage of my career.”

So, with Cleverley sent out on loan, why didn’t we go for him?

    whats wrong with coleen?

  2. United4eva says:

Great signing by Harry. Gives Spurs some much needed depth in the middle. Would’ve been brilliant to pick up Van der Vaart.

  3. Giggsys chest wig says:

Simple, he is not good enough.
Can’t get in the Real team or the Holland team. He is also injury prone.
No better than what we have got.
We need people to enhance the squad, not has been. Maybe 5 years ago.

If he wad that good, then he would have loads of teams after him, rather than using Uniteds name to tout himself.

  4. jono says:

with cleverly gone i would of felt a bit better if we had bought a midfielder in, he wasnt top of my list but considering we could of got him on loan he does seem silly we didnt make a move.

scholes cant play every game and he would of been a good stand in.

  5. dela says:

There is no value in the market when Real demand 8 mn for van der Vaart.

And then we sign Bebe for a throw-away 7.4 million.

  6. huzi says:

Would have been worth it signing him…atleast for a good look at his wife. :D

  7. catotraa says:

    Have faith in SAF.
If Fergie thinks Van der Vaart is not good enough, he simply isn’t. Or he might just not fit into us. I think maybe his attitude wouldn’t fit into our team, with him seemingly talking as if he’d have a regular place in the starting line-up if he ever joined us. It’s just not that simple, and him not seeing that could be a issue. I have this feeling that we haven’t seen the last of Ando, and if he makes it this year it will almost be like a new signing!

  8. catotraa says:

    @dela
What’s with all the stick Bebe gets? He didn’t choose to cost that money, and for all we know we bought a future world class player for 7,4 mill, which would be a fucking bargain. Have some faith!

  9. FletchTHEMAN says:

Still only a loan with spuds, only 23 so think he will develop. Have a hunch that Jose wants to see if he can get some more game time. But we could always bide our time as well, we could still go for him if he steps up and shows some quality with prem competition. Anyway, he is still fully owned by the virus, so get over it.

  10. marsy the red says:

Fergie knows what he’s doing, it has been proven this summer we do have some money to spend and he could probably have splashed out on a £15-20 million player but he hasn’t so he must be happy with his squad.

  11. bbaby says:

Real wouldn’t have loaned a player to us, and United wouldn’t ask for it.

  12. eddieTheRed says:

I agree he’s injury prone; but he was one of Madrid’s best players last season; he made a big difference scoring and making goals when Kaka was out injured; being Dutch he’s probably outspoken which wouldn’t go down well at a stuffy club like Madrid.

  13. Devil310 says:

Missed out on Ozil……now VDV….Cleverly’s sent out on loan….(sigh)

I hope Scholes, Giggs, Ando, Carrick and Fletcher all stay fit throughout the season…or we might regret those decisions.

  14. hmm says:

    @ Ando08

….just that she often looks like she’s saying ‘ooh matron’ like kenneth williams

  15. dela says:

    @catotraa
I have all the faith in the world, mate. Just slightly miffed by our transfers lately. Fergie seems to have become reluctant to sign big names lately, but yes, I really hope Bebe makes me eat my words and look back at my comments with disgust in the coming months :)

  16. Schmucks says:

ffs, we should have bid for him. £8m ?? Even the unknown Bebe costs us £7.5m or somewhere there.
    -.-’

  17. jono says:

    i am hopefully on bebe

however if someone said you had just spent a small fortune on an english player that had an average record at a league one club, i dont think many would be as hopeful ;)

  18. willierednut says:

Ozil didn’t want to fucking sign for us, so why would we want him!!

  19. Rai says:

    Ffs

  20. Costas says:

Good God, just sign her up.

  21. willierednut says:

    Jenna J > VDV wife

  22. Drew Vader says:

    I second Costas

  23. Jonny says:

he is a good player and i look forward to seeing him in the premiership

spurs central midfield is going to be one of the best in the league. modric, huddlestone and van der vaart will cause problems for a lot of teams if they gel

in terms of united, i personally dont think we should be trying to sign a 27 year old. just think what 8 million could do when buying 16-17 year old players in the vein of da silva brothers

  24. Dummy says:

I would pay good money for her!!!

  25. RedScot says:

She looks like a fucking Barbie doll.
So Van der vart is Ken. Be more like the some sleekit artfull dodger at the Shit Hoose Lane.
Shame to see Tom go. I guess its to save wages or possible move him up a stage from Watford and ensure he gets game time at the Latics.
Seems odd however a few weeks back Sir Alex saying he was staying.
In Mourhino i trust, lol not good enough for Madrid certainly not good enough for United.
Good luck at the Spuds, Cloggie.

  26. Jonny says:

    @RedScot

    “not good enough for madrid”

champions league winner – wesley sneijder
champions league runner up – arjen robben

both key to success of their teams. both won the league and cup too, as well as helping their country to the world cup final.

i think the virus are the problem, not the players

  27. RedScot says:

@Jonny I think you are right mate. They are screwing up the transfer market big time. Ronaldo firstly ot goes on and on Ozil cos they new we were interested. A Goverment supported club its the pits.
Totally disadvantaged and Blatter and Platini are in the fucking loop also to bring down the English clubs.
I do trust Maureen though, He is the next Manchester United manager ………. NOT!

  28. Costas says:

    @willierednut

I think it’s Sylvie = Jenna post cosmetic surgery, but Sylvie < Jenna pre cosmetic.

  29. willierednut says:

Costas – The double j will always have a place in my heart lol.

  30. RedScot says:

Christ I wish Costas and Willie would get a fucking room, save us from this shit. lol
    Nite lads keep it Red
    Believe. Glory Glory Man United.

  31. Devil310 says:

Who said that Ozil wasnt interested in us???.

Madrid were the only ones (of the BIG clubs) that put a serious interest in him….and of course he sign for them. It was a huge career opportunity for him to sign for a club the size of Madrid.

Benzema, on the other hand, DID reject us….but that was different, and SAF made it public. OZIL only said: “it is a dream come true”….but who doesn’t say that this days when signing for a BIG club? It doesnt mean anything….its all PR.

The reason is simple: SAF simply didn’t want him

  32. Costas says:

    @willie

Lol, same here, but times change and we need new role models.

    @RedScot

Sure. Just tell me which room Jenna is at. :D

  33. paddy says:

    i’d bum her

  34. willierednut says:

    Who wouldn’t.

  35. Macheda is GOD says:

Hasn’t gone to spurs yet,Fucking hell I hope she joins..wait I had to take 5 seconds to realize that i said she not he there..such a dirty minded fellow I am.

  36. United1990 says:

lol the whole issue is funny xD

  37. Exiled Red says:

Cant for the life of me understand why Cleverly has been transferred. Fergie said we were going with youth this year, then he let’s Tom go to Wigan. It does’nt make sense – Tom’s the best of our young players.

Incidentally I’ve been talking to a pal in the media about all the Bebe stuff. He says the papers weren’t having a pop at the kid but at Fergie. They cant understand why he would pay so much for an unknown that he hasnt seen play, especially when he says theres no value in the market. They reckon there might be something not right about the transfer.

  38. Josh-2b-King says:

On another note: did anybody notice how Danny W. has completely changed the flow of Sundeland-Shitty game when replaced injured Campbell? His movement was superb and that expensive and overrated shitty defense couldn’t cope with him..
It is a pity that he is loaned out for the whole season, rather than 6 months

  39. United says:

Seriously, Bebe instead of Van Der Vaart, someone must be mad.

  40. veek says:

there was a time we sold off the most marketable footballer in football and bought an unknown portuguese teenager for 12 million. i believe people thought he was overpriced then.

  41. bigphil2003 says:

When Van der Vaart is mentioned people always bring up Robben and Schneider… funny that they never mention Huntelaar, Baptiste or the rest that just arent that great. Van der vaart will be about as good as edgar davids was for spurs, he wouldnt have added anything to us and would have stifled Anderson.

  42. bigphil2003 says:

@United, youve seen Bebe in action and predicted his next ten years then?

  43. Lanaya says:

    @Giggsys chest wig
Well sneijder couldnt get into the Real first team and look where he is now…

  44. Berbarian says:

Goal.com reported that “Tottenham Hotspur failed with a late swoop for Rafael van der Vaart”

  45. wiuru says:

In SAF we trust and go with what we have .

  46. Troy says:

Sorry, i’m not going with the old “in Fergie we trust” line. This player would be a major asset when we play 4-5-1. He didn’t fail at Real Madrid, he was a victim of the stupid politics at Real Madrid as he was a player signed by Ramon Calderon. A fee of 8million pounds makes nonsense of any claim that there is no value in the transfer market. He takes wicked free kicks, has accurate pacy passes, has skill & knows where the goal is. My gut tells me that either Fergie has been instructed not to sign players that would bypass a certain rate of salary or he just refuses to do business with Real Madrid. Damn, damn, damn, we missed out on Sneijder for peanuts and now we missed out on Rafael vd Vaart for peanuts.

  47. Gorse Hill Red says:

So we buy Bebe an unproven player who can’t get into the reserve side for £7.5million and lets face we are all thinking of Manucho mark2 here. Van der Vaart a proven midfielder at an extra cost of £500k and wanting to come to Old Trafford and we don’t even make a bid?
Something is not right at this club and there is more than meets the eye.

  48. firestarter says:

For all we know, fergie would have been doing Mourinho a favour when he went to have a look at Ozil play at the Cottage.

VDV, well there were just 2 hrs to sign.

They were asking for 18 million from Munich. When that did not happen, Spuds threw up 8 to try their luck. And for them it worked.

Fergie singles out what he wants much earlier than the deadline, no reason to change this time imo.

  49. FrenchDevil says:

@ Gorse Hill Red – what is not right is people always questioning SAF’s choices and at the same time coming up with “in Fergie we trust” crap… Guess you’re happier to believe the shit that’s in the papers!

  50. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

I have to say i get pissed off big time sometimes on this blog
yes everyone has an opinion but sometimes there opinion is 100% wrong
so im here to say this is the right opinion if you dont agree with it then learn from it

    Jesse Jane > Jenna Jameson

    oh Scholes>Fletcher>anderson>Carrick>Van Der Vaart>Bebe
Cleverley on loan is a year of first team premiership for a team were he doesnt have to force out a player inthe form and icon staus of paul scholes

  51. willierednut says:

Jenna Jameson > Linda Lovelace > Jesse Jane

  52. utd4life says:

    @gorse hill red

whats with all the pessimism mate??how do you know that bebe is manucho-2???i mean can you see the future or did bebe tell you that manucho is my idol and i wanna become like him..

as for bebe not playing for the reserves..SAF said that skill-wise he is right up there but he’s still gotta work on his fitness and endurance which is not upto utd’s standard..give the lad some time..ffs he doesn even speak english so let him settle down and then lets see what he’s really made up of..

as for VDV going off to spurs..i dont think SAF was ever interested in him because he believes his midfield is good enough..and when the gaffer doesn have any problems why should we question him???

  53. King Eric says:

Who gives a fuck? Why are people crying that we didn’t sign a 29 year old journeyman? A decent enough player but he hardly pulls up trees does he? For the lad who said Spurs have a formidable midfield. Sorry? Fatboy Huddlestone and Modric who has one good game every 9.

  54. bozzer99 says:

Where’s value? Oh yeh its going to be down North London most Saturdays!

It is mightily frustrating that fergie manipulates the masses and comes out with such rubbish over and over again to cover his masters in palm beach. With his continual bigging up of the Glazers ‘He doth protest too much’ me thinks.

  55. tr says:

    Cracking women really!

  56. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

at 3 oclock yesterday he was 18 million at 4 oclock he was 8 million

its not that Spurs >united in the markey

its that ‘Arry got lucky with the price

  57. bigphil2003 says:

What are people suggesting about Fergie? Surely not that we dont have any money because weve shown this summer that we do. It must be then that they are better equipped to run Manchester United’s transfer dealings? Fuck off.

  58. Troy says:

    @ Gotta hate tiny tears:
I don’t think Spurs just got lucky, they were informed of developments because they had shown an interest in the player. It is obvious that we never inquired about him at all and that is frustrating. Those debts that the Glazers have incurred on our behalf are only due early 2017. Does that mean another 7years of shopping exclusively for young unproven talent. To maintain our position at the top of the tree would require our scouts to do an exceptional job, made even harder as it seems that we are not even buying young players that already have a reputation, as they would earn above the wage cap it seems we have for new players. Look we have an excellent youth system & a large scouting network, but trusting our future exclusively on young unknown or unproven talent is gambling. Personally I am not comfortable with that at all.

  59. CroneKills says:

People keep bringing up Bebe. I have no clue about this dude, but we have to trust in SAF’s decisions. Also, even if SAF gets this one wrong, who cares? We have an abundance in midfield, to which we can rotate players. Gibbo or Park anyone? Park can play center midfield as well, see Milan game last term. It’s not like we don’t have options. Also, if situations within midfield become THAT dire, United have the possibility of using the DaSilva twins in midfield as well.

Let’s just see what Bebe can do before we start jumping the gun because we didn’t get a “high profile signing in midfield”.

    Just sayin…

    PS.,
wasn’t it the same arguement when we didn’t sign a high-profile striker? then you all saw what Hernandez could do and it made it all better…

  60. CroneKills says:

Also, I will admit that the loaning of Cleverley did throw me for a loop. I was banking on him making an impression in the league and domestic cups.

  61. willierednut says:

bigphill03 – It’s amazing that fans think they know more than our manager, we just weren’t interested in VDV, it’s that simple really.

  62. guidedbyunited says:

I hope United go after Defour in January if Hargo doesn’t work out. Kid is going to be top quality.

  63. Sid says:

He never made those comments. He came out and said they were fabricated.

  64. mo says:

    give me a coleen anyday

  65. Fze123 says:

@Sid, do you have a link, with him denying the comments?

He’s a good player, wouldn’t have minded seeing him at Utd. I would probably want him mostly because of his excellent setpieces. And his hot wife, of course. Not someone we necessarily need though, a replacement for Hargo is what we should have signed. I hope we don’t come to regret it this season.

  66. Fze123 says:

He’s apparently a boyhood Utd fan

  67. inhouser says:

To all the VDV critics. I wouls just like to ask who would you rather have in the midfield when we are playing against a team like Barcelona (if god forbid Scholesy is injured) a player who has played champions league football for the past 5 years and been in the world cup as a runner up, or a once upon a time hugely talented player, slowly withering away (read Carrick). We all saw what happened in the West Ham game when Scholes was replaced.
Don’t get me wrong I love Fergie and his managerial skills but suddenly we as a club have gone into this policy of buying as I call it ‘buying lottery tickets’. Buying ‘players for the future’ will not help you win difficult away CL games, experience will.
What have we done with the so called ‘players with bright futures’, look at Manucho and Tosic, brought them here and sold them for the same price that we bought them for: ‘return on investment’. We don’t want to be a feeder club.
We have eight senior playing forwards as of now, but not one world class midfield player apart from Scholes. The jump, in terms of experience, is huge. One moment you have Scholes playing a game and controlling it and then what Darron Gibson????? I really think a player like VDV with his experience and capabilities would have been the perfect fit and would have also given time to the so called players for the future to flourish……

  68. United says:

To everyone who keeps bringing up Ronaldo and that Bebe might be a genius.

Well, Van Der Vaart is great NOW, he is creative, he is brilliant if you watch him

    Just watch him now

  69. United says:

Seeing these great players go for cut price deals and United missing out everytime sickening

Robben,Sneijder,Van Der Vaart, Ozil, any one of them would have added to our team

  70. Zalee says:

there are many good players that have been rumored or link up with United but in the end there is no one. personally sometimes i feel kind of sad when i read about the transfer speculation on United official websites and others because it’s only below 5% true if i’m not mistaken.

    Miguel Veloso – Genoa
    Simon Kjaer – Wolfburg
Sergio Canales, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira & Angel Di Maria – Real Madrid
    Steven Defour – ?
    David Silva – Manchester City

The only place I can see most of the players in United shirt are in Football Manager.Hahaha. Because I use the United transfer speculation as a guidelines

  71. bigphil2003 says:

@inhouser – your comments about carrick and VDV could be switched about very easily.

  72. trevor says:

Vander Vaart would have been worth signing just to have her at Old Trafford! HAHAHA
